  • bind parent child listview asp.net

    - by Chris
    I'm trying to display two linq query results in a prent and child listview. I have the following code which gets the correct values to populate the listviews but when I nest the child listview inside the parent list view, I get an error saying "The name 'ListView2' does not exist in the current context". I presume I need to bind the two listviews in the code behind but my problem is I don't know how or the best way to do this. I have read a couple of posts on similar problems but my lack of knowledge on the subject doesn't make it clear to me. Please can somebody help me figure this out? It's the final piece of code I need to complete. Many thanks in advance. Here is my .aspx code: <asp:ListView ID="ListView1" runat="server"> <EmptyDataTemplate>No data was returned.</EmptyDataTemplate> <ItemSeparatorTemplate><br /></ItemSeparatorTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <li> <asp:Label ID="LabelID" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("RecordID") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelNumber" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("CartID") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelName" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Number") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelDestination" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Destination") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelPkgName" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("PkgName") %>'></asp:Label> <li> <!-- LIST VIEW FOR FEATURES --> <asp:ListView ID="ListView2" runat="server"> <EmptyDataTemplate>No data was returned.</EmptyDataTemplate> <ItemSeparatorTemplate><br /></ItemSeparatorTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <li> <asp:Label ID="LabelFeatureName" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("FeatureName") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelFeatureSetUp" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("FeatureSetUp") %>'></asp:Label><br /> <asp:Label ID="LabelFeatureMonthly" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("FeatureMonthly") %>'></asp:Label><br /> </li> </ItemTemplate> <LayoutTemplate> <ul ID="itemPlaceholderContainer" runat="server" style=""> <li runat="server" id="itemPlaceholder" /> </ul> </LayoutTemplate> </asp:ListView> <!-- LIST VIEW FOR FEATURES [END] --> </li> </li> </ItemTemplate> <LayoutTemplate> <ul ID="itemPlaceholderContainer" runat="server" style=""> <li runat="server" id="itemPlaceholder" /> </ul> </LayoutTemplate> </asp:ListView> Here is my code behind: MyShoppingCart userShoppingCart = new MyShoppingCart(); string cartID = userShoppingCart.GetShoppingCartId(); using (ShoppingCartv2Entities db = new ShoppingCartv2Entities()) { var CartNumber = from c in db.NewViews where c.CartID == cartID select c; foreach (NewView item in CartNumber) { ListView1.DataSource = CartNumber; ListView1.DataBind(); } var CartFeature = from f in db.NewViews join o in db.NumberFeatureViews on f.RecordID equals o.RecordID where f.CartID == cartID select new { o.FeatureName, o.FeatureSetUp, o.FeatureMonthly }; foreach (var x in CartFeature) { ListView2.DataSource = CartFeature; ListView2.DataBind(); } }

  • IE7 rendering bug: Heading before a floated list

    - by Tomalak
    Can somebody please explain this IE7 bug to me? It occurs in Standards and Quirks mode rendering, it does not occur in Firefox, Chrome or IE8 (though switching the rendering engine via IE8 developer tools will provoke it). Here's the HTML to reproduce the behavior: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> /* h1 { margin: 0px; } */ ul { padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style-type: none; } ul li { float: left; width: 140px; padding: 3px; } div { clear: left; padding: 3px; } div, li { background-color: OrangeRed; } /* ul { border: 1px solid blue; } */ </style> </head> <body> <h1>Heading 1</h1> <ul class="t"> <li>bla 1</li><li>bla 2</li><li>bla 3</li> </ul> <div>yada</div> </body> </html> This renders a floated <ul> above a <div> (supposed to be a tabbed user interface). There's an unexplained gap between the <div> and the <ul>. Now do one of the following: Uncomment the CSS rule for <h1>. The gap disappears and the list is rendered tight to the <div>, but also very close to the <h1>. Alternatively, uncomment the CSS rule for <ul>. Now a narrow blue border is rendered above the <ul>, but the gap disappears. My questions: How can the <h1> margin (I suppose any block level element with a defined margin will do) affect the space below the list? Can I prevent this from happening without having to set header margins to 0 or messing with the <ul> borders (setting border-width: 0; does not work BTW)? I suppose it is connected to the <ul> having no width because it has only floated children. Maybe someone with more insight into IE7 peculiarities than I have can explain what the rendering engine is doing here. Thanks!

  • Gap between Navbar and Jumbotron

    - by DDK
    I am building I suppose you could call a template for the site I am going to build however I am still pretty new to bootstrap and thus have trouble figuring which CSS rules are affecting elements etc. The problem I am having is I cannot get the Jumbotron unit to sit flush with the bottom of the navbar. I have found a few questions on here about the same problem but the solutions did not work. Here is my code </head> <body> <div class="row"> <div> <img src="http://placehold.it/1600x300" width="100%"> </div> <!-- Static navbar --> <div class="navbar navbar-default navbar-static-top" role="navigation"> <div class="container"> <div class="navbar-header"> <button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".navbar-collapse"> <span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> </button> </div> <div class="navbar-collapse collapse"> <ul class="nav nav-justified" id="myNav"> <li class="active"><a href="#">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#about">About</a></li> <li><a href="#contact">Contact</a></li> <li><a href="#contact">Services</a></li> </ul> </div><!--/.nav-collapse --> </div> </div> <div class="jumbotron" id="openingtext"> This is where the opening sale text will go </div> <div class="container"> <!-- Example row of columns --> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-4"> <h2>Heading</h2> <p>Donec id elit non mi porta gravida at eget metus. Fusce dapibus, tellus ac cursus commodo, tortor mauris condimentum nibh, ut fermentum massa justo sit amet risus. Etiam porta sem malesuada magna mollis euismod. Donec sed odio dui. </p> <p><a class="btn btn-default" href="#" role="button">View details &raquo;</a></p> </div> <div class="col-md-4"> <h2>Heading</h2> I would provide the css but as it is all being pulled from an unchanged version of bootstrap and my stylesheet.css has nothing relating to any of these ids etc it seems pointless to do so. I look forward to hearing your solutions guys and girls

  • Pass authentication between php and Ruby On Rails application

    - by Li
    Hi, I have a simple Ruby on rails application that I want to integrate with an existing php website. I only want that users who's been authenticated by the php application would have access to my Ruby on Rails application (it should appear to the user as the same website, in the same domain, though it can be a different sub-domain if I chose to) What's the best way to do that? Thanks for the help, Li

  • Make Your Menu Item Highlighted

    - by Shaun
    When I was working on the TalentOn project (Promotion in MSDN Chinese) I was asked to implement a functionality that makes the top menu items highlighted when the currently viewing page was in that section. This might be a common scenario in the web application development I think.   Simple Example When thinking about the solution of the highlighted menu items the biggest problem would be how to define the sections (menu item) and the pages it belongs to rather than making the menu highlighted. With the ASP.NET MVC framework we can use the controller – action infrastructure for us to achieve it. Each controllers would have a related menu item on the master page normally. The menu item would be highlighted if any of the views under this controller are being shown. Some specific menu items would be highlighted of that action was invoked, for example the home page, the about page, etc. The check rule can be specified on-demand. For example I can define the action LogOn and Register of Account controller should make the Account menu item highlighted while the ChangePassword should make the Profile menu item highlighted. I’m going to use the HtmlHelper to render the highlight-able menu item. The key point is that I need to pass the predication to check whether the current view belongs to this menu item which means this menu item should be highlighted or not. Hence I need a delegate as its parameter. The simplest code would be like this. 1: using System; 2: using System.Collections.Generic; 3: using System.Linq; 4: using System.Web; 5: using System.Web.Mvc; 6: using System.Web.Mvc.Html; 7:  8: namespace ShaunXu.Blogs.HighlighMenuItem 9: { 10: public static class HighlightMenuItemHelper 11: { 12: public static MvcHtmlString HighlightMenuItem(this HtmlHelper helper, 13: string text, string controllerName, string actionName, object routeData, object htmlAttributes, 14: string highlightText, object highlightHtmlAttributes, 15: Func<HtmlHelper, bool> highlightPredicate) 16: { 17: var shouldHighlight = highlightPredicate.Invoke(helper); 18: if (shouldHighlight) 19: { 20: return helper.ActionLink(string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(highlightText) ? text : highlightText, 21: actionName, controllerName, routeData, highlightHtmlAttributes == null ? htmlAttributes : highlightHtmlAttributes); 22: } 23: else 24: { 25: return helper.ActionLink(text, actionName, controllerName, routeData, htmlAttributes); 26: } 27: } 28: } 29: } There are 3 groups of the parameters: the first group would be the same as the in-build ActionLink method parameters. It has the link text, controller name and action name, etc passed in so that I can render a valid linkage for the menu item. The second group would be more focus on the highlight link text and Html attributes. I will use them to render the highlight menu item. The third group, which contains one parameter, would be a predicate that tells me whether this menu item should be highlighted or not based on the user’s definition. And then I changed my master page of the sample MVC application. I let the Home and About menu highlighted only when the Index and About action are invoked. And I added a new menu named Account which should be highlighted for all actions/views under its Account controller. So my master would be like this. 1: <div id="menucontainer"> 2:  3: <ul id="menu"> 4: <li><% 1: : Html.HighlightMenuItem( 2: "Home", "Home", "Index", null, null, 3: "[Home]", null, 4: helper => helper.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["controller"].ToString() == "Home" 5: && helper.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["action"].ToString() == "Index")%></li> 5:  6: <li><% 1: : Html.HighlightMenuItem( 2: "About", "Home", "About", null, null, 3: "[About]", null, 4: helper => helper.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["controller"].ToString() == "Home" 5: && helper.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["action"].ToString() == "About")%></li> 7:  8: <li><% 1: : Html.HighlightMenuItem( 2: "Account", "Account", "LogOn", null, null, 3: "[Account]", null, 4: helper => helper.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["controller"].ToString() == "Account")%></li> 9: 10: </ul> 11:  12: </div> Note: You need to add the import section for the namespace “ShaunXu.Blogs.HighlighMenuItem” to make the extension method I created below available. So let’s see the result. When the home page was shown the Home menu was highlighted since at this moment it was controller = Home and action = Index. And if I clicked the About menu you can see it turned highlighted as now the action was About. And if I navigated to the register page the Account menu was highlighted since it should be like that when any actions under the Account controller was invoked.   Fluently Language Till now it’s a fully example for the highlight menu item but not perfect yet. Since the most common scenario would be: highlighted when the action invoked, or highlighted when any action was invoked under this controller, we can created 2 shortcut method so for them so that normally the developer will be no need to specify the delegation. Another place we can improve would be, to make the method more user-friendly, or I should say developer-friendly. As you can see when we want to add a highlight menu item we need to specify 8 parameters and we need to remember what they mean. In fact we can make the method more “fluently” so that the developer can have the hints when using it by the Visual Studio IntelliSense. Below is the full code for it. 1: using System; 2: using System.Collections.Generic; 3: using System.Linq; 4: using System.Web; 5: using System.Web.Mvc; 6: using System.Web.Mvc.Html; 7:  8: namespace Ethos.Xrm.HR 9: { 10: #region Helper 11:  12: public static class HighlightActionMenuHelper 13: { 14: public static IHighlightActionMenuProviderAfterCreated HighlightActionMenu(this HtmlHelper helper) 15: { 16: return new HighlightActionMenuProvider(helper); 127: } 128:  129: public IHighlightActionMenuProviderAfterApplyHighlightStyle ApplyHighlighStyle(string cssClass, string highlightText) 130: { 131: return ApplyHighlighStyle(new { @class = cssClass }, highlightText); 132: } 133:  134: public IHighlightActionMenuProviderAfterApplyHighlightStyle ApplyHighlighStyle(string cssClass) 135: { 136: return ApplyHighlighStyle(new { @class = cssClass }, _text); 137: } 138:  139: public MvcHtmlString ToActionLink() 140: { 141: if (_highlightPredicate.Invoke(_helper)) 142: { 143: // should be highlight 144: return _helper.ActionLink(_highlightText, _actionName, _controllerName, _routeData, _highlightHtmlAttributes); This is something we call “Fluently Language”. If you had been using Moq you will see that’s very development-friendly, document-ly and easy to read.   Summary In this post I demonstrated how to implement a highlight menu item in ASP.NET MVC by using its controller – action infrastructure. We can see the ASP.NET MVC helps us to organize our web application better. And then I also told a little bit more on the “Fluently Language” and showed how it will make our code better and easy to be used.   Hope this helps, Shaun   All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Is error suppression acceptable in role of logic mechanism?

    - by Rarst
    This came up in code review at work in context of PHP and @ operator. However I want to try keep this in more generic form, since few question about it I found on SO got bogged down in technical specifics. Accessing array field, which is not set, results in error message and is commonly handled by following logic (pseudo code): if field value is set output field value Code in question was doing it like: start ignoring errors output field value stop ignoring errors The reasoning for latter was that it's more compact and readable code in this specific case. I feel that those benefits do not justify misuse (IMO) of language mechanics. Is such code is being "clever" in a bad way? Is discarding possible error (for any reason) acceptable practice over explicitly handling it (even if that leads to more extensive and/or intensive code)? Is it acceptable for programming operators to cross boundaries of intended use (like in this case using error handling for controlling output)? Edit I wanted to keep it more generic, but specific code being discussed was like this: if ( isset($array['field']) ) { echo '<li>' . $array['field'] . '</li>'; } vs the following example: echo '<li>' . @$array['field'] . '</li>';

  • jQuery Toggle with Cookie

    - by Cameron
    I have the following toggle system, but I want it to remember what was open/closed using the jQuery cookie plugin. So for example if I open a toggle and then navigate away from the page, when I come back it should be still open. This is code I have so far, but it's becoming rather confusing, some help would be much appreciated thanks. jQuery.cookie = function (name, value, options) { if (typeof value != 'undefined') { options = options || {}; if (value === null) { value = ''; options = $.extend({}, options); options.expires = -1; } var expires = ''; if (options.expires && (typeof options.expires == 'number' || options.expires.toUTCString)) { var date; if (typeof options.expires == 'number') { date = new Date(); date.setTime(date.getTime() + (options.expires * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000)); } else { date = options.expires; } expires = '; expires=' + date.toUTCString(); } var path = options.path ? '; path=' + (options.path) : ''; var domain = options.domain ? '; domain=' + (options.domain) : ''; var secure = options.secure ? '; secure' : ''; document.cookie = [name, '=', encodeURIComponent(value), expires, path, domain, secure].join(''); } else { var cookieValue = null; if (document.cookie && document.cookie != '') { var cookies = document.cookie.split(';'); for (var i = 0; i < cookies.length; i++) { var cookie = jQuery.trim(cookies[i]); if (cookie.substring(0, name.length + 1) == (name + '=')) { cookieValue = decodeURIComponent(cookie.substring(name.length + 1)); break; } } } return cookieValue; } }; // var showTop = $.cookie('showTop'); if ($.cookie('showTop') == 'collapsed') { $(".toggle_container").hide(); $(".trigger").toggle(function () { $(this).addClass("active"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("active"); }); $(".trigger").click(function () { $(this).next(".toggle_container").slideToggle("slow,"); }); } else { $(".toggle_container").show(); $(".trigger").toggle(function () { $(this).addClass("active"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("active"); }); $(".trigger").click(function () { $(this).next(".toggle_container").slideToggle("slow,"); }); }; $(".trigger").click(function () { if ($(".toggle_container").is(":hidden")) { $(this).next(".toggle_container").slideToggle("slow,"); $.cookie('showTop', 'expanded'); } else { $(this).next(".toggle_container").slideToggle("slow,"); $.cookie('showTop', 'collapsed'); } return false; }); and this is a snippet of the HTML it works with: <li> <label for="small"><input type="checkbox" id="small" /> Small</label> <a class="trigger" href="#">Toggle</a> <div class="toggle_container"> <p class="funding"><strong>Funding</strong></p> <ul class="childs"> <li class="child"> <label for="fully-funded1"><input type="checkbox" id="fully-funded1" /> Fully Funded</label> <a class="trigger" href="#">Toggle</a> <div class="toggle_container"> <p class="days"><strong>Days</strong></p> <ul class="days clearfix"> <li><label for="1pre16">Pre 16</label> <input type="text" id="1pre16" /></li> <li><label for="2post16">Post 16</label> <input type="text" id="2post16" /></li> <li><label for="3teacher">Teacher</label> <input type="text" id="3teacher" /></li> </ul> </div> </li>

  • HTML/CSS - Website Help.

    - by gabeaudick
    I'm trying to build my first website from scratch. I mocked up the design in Photoshop, and have been trying to convert into code for a few hours. But I haven't got far. In fact, I'm stuck on the header's navigation bar. It looks right, but it doesn't work. I'm using an unordered-inline list, and trying to link different rectangles in the header. I can't click on anything in the header, though. The code for the html and css files, and a mockup of the header, are below. Any advice on why the header bar isn't working would be much appreciated. Here's a link to the image: http://rookery9.aviary.com.s3.amazonaws.com/3961000/3961027_eb89_625x625.jpg *Ideally, you would be able to click on either "". home.html: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <!-- Title --> <title>I am Gabe Audick.</title> <!-- Meta --> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="Author" content="Gabe Audick" /> <meta name="Copyright" content="Gabe Audick" /> <!-- Stylesheets --> <link href="style.css" media="screen" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <!-- RSS --> <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="gabeaudick RSS" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/gabeaudick" /> </head> <body> <!-- Navigation Bar --> <div id="wrap"> <div id="header"> <ul> <li><a href="#">Previous</a></li> <li><a href="#">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#">Next</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> <!-- END --> <!-- Google Analytics --> <script type="text/javascript"> var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-5899101-4']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? Right now, they're only as long as their content. The columns are #left, #right and #content. Pretty new to this stuff. Please feel free to point out sloppy code, redundancy, etc. And thank you.

  • css: problems with floating a sidebar

    - by user239831
    hey guys, i can't seem to get it working. i have a div.post with #comments and a #respond form underneath it. the div.post contains the #comments and the #respond form. i simply want to float the sidebar to the right of the entire div.post and i cannot seem to get it work. here is an example. any idea how to solve that - its probably quite simple. :) <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <title>layout</title> <style type="text/css"> body { margin:0; padding:0; } #main { width:100%; background:#cfcfcf; } .inner { margin: 0 auto; padding: 96px 72px 0; width: 1068px; border-color: #000; border-style: solid; border-width: 0 1px; color: #3C3C3C; } .post { width: 705px; background:#999; } #comments, #respond { width: 705px; background:#999; } #sidebar { width:338px; background:#777; margin-left:730px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="main"> <div class="inner"> <div id="post" class="post"> <h2>Lorem Ipsum Test Page</h2> <div class="entry"> <p>Lorem ipsum sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua.   • Struts 1 ActionForm - retrieving a collection from pure HTML

    - by Yaneeve
    Hi all I have (just like the rest) inherited some struts 1 code. I have had need to add a few more pages to this project. What I cannot figure out is how to map several distinct but similarly natured input elements to the my ActionForm. Let me elaborate. I create a new <Input> element dynamically as the user inputs more and more items (I use the YUI autocomplete form element and for each entered input I add it as an input element to my form and draw a new YUI autocomplete - complex sounding, I know) So... My form looks a bit like (... after some prettifying and some such...): <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta • Insert character infront of each word in a string using C++

    - by insertable
    Hi all, I have a string, for example; "llama,goat,cow" and I just need to put a '@' in front of each word so my string will look like "@llama,@goat,@cow", but I need the values to be dynamic also, and always with a '@' at the beginning. Not knowing a great deal of C++ could someone please help me find the easiest solution to this problem? Many thanks in advance.

Tom is the Tom behind the AskTom column in Oracle Magazine and is also the author of Expert Oracle Database Architecture (Apress, 2005/2009) among other books Abstract: Big Data The term "big data" draws a lot of attention, but behind the hype there's a simple story. For decades, companies have been making business decisions based on transactional data stored in relational databases. However, beyond that critical data is a potential treasure trove of less structured data: weblogs, social media, email, sensors, and photographs that can be mined for useful information. This presentation will take a look at what Big Data is and means - and Oracle's strategy for handling it Abstract: What are we still doing wrong? I've given many best practices presentations in the last 10 years. I've given many worst practices presentations in the last 10 years. I've seen some things change over the last ten years and many other things stay exactly the same. In this talk - we'll be taking a look at the good and the bad - what we do right and what we continue to do wrong over and over again. We'll look at why "Why" is probably the right initial answer to most any question. We'll look at how we get to "Know what we Know", and why that can be both a help and a hindrance. We'll peek at "Best Practices" and tie them into what I term "Worst Practices". In short, a talk on the good and the bad.
