  • Lost network interface after mac change

    I'm using Ubuntu server 12.04 inside Virtualbox and everything was working as expected, but since I changed the mac address in Virtualbox network settings the network interface is not being recognized on Ubuntu. I don't remember the old mac address and everytime Ubuntu starts shows waiting for network configuration when I use ifconfig only appears lo (loopback device) and eth0 is lost, how can I fix this problem?

  • Building a Mac/PC Network in a Dorm with Network Restrictions

    I have been a Windows XP user for the last few years, but I recently bought a 15'' MacBook Pro for research purposes. I would like to set up a no-hassle Mac/PC Network at home so that I can access the internet on both computers and hardware between computers (i.e. a harddrive, or a mouse/keyboard with Synergy). Unfortunately, I live in a dorm with silly network restrictions so a solution is not straightforward. In particular: The dorm has a wired and wireless network, both which provide an internet connection. The wired network provides way faster internet (download speeds of 15 MB/s vs. 2 MB/s on wireless), so I would like to somehow exploit this, at least on my PC for Bittorrent :) Multiple devices can connect to the wireless network, but cannot "see" each other on the network (so software like Synergy would not work). Only 1 MAC address can connect to the wired network at a time. Ideally I would just connect a wireless router to the wired network and then have both the Mac and the PC on that, but the 1 MAC address restriction will not allow the both computer to access the internet simultaneously. I cannot think of a way to bypass this restriction (though I'm not network savvy), so I am planning to create a private no-internet network to allow the devices to see each other and share hardware. Here are some thoughts. I would appreciate any feedback at all! If I build a private wireless network: (first choice) I will use a wireless router that is not connected to the internet. My PC and Mac will be connected to each other wirelessly. I can then connect the PC to the internet via a wired network, but then the Mac will not have internet access as its wireless card is already in use. In this case, could I stream internet access from the PC to the Mac via the wireless network? Or could I buy a USB wireless card for the Mac so that it can connect to both my private network and the dorm network? If I build a private wired network: (second choice) Then both the PC and the Mac will connect to the internet wirelessly, which means I cannot take advantage of the faster download speeds.

  • Audio Problems with my Mac running Ubuntu 12.04

    I've got a mac (desktop around 2008). I installed Ubuntu 11.10, then remembered I had 12.04 on a disc. I installed 12.04 and now the audio will not work. I've tried all the killallpulse and looked briefly at the Alsa thing. I put in speakers and they only work with the headphone setting. When i put in cat /proc/asound/cards I get: 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0x50600000 irq 47 I do have the Mac startup noise but no sound in Ubuntu

    I know that all MAC addresses that the pocket goes through are in the pocket. This is because that each pocket that goes, should also be returned. So, if the router of the server know about the mac address of the client (all of them), why the server page (like aspx) cannot have this information? Please, give an explanation.     I've bundled a jar file as a mac application using jar bundler. I'm now trying to create an installer for this app so that: 1) The application will be placed in the applications folder 2) The application is added to the list of permissible apps in Mac Application Level Firewall Also, I have several example files I would like to include with this application - what is the best way to make these available to the user. Someone suggested I have the mpkg file launch a dmg file which would contain these files, but this seems circuitous. Thanks

  • Hide users from Mac OS X Snow Leopard logon screen.

    Somehow, I managed to set a passwd for my _postgres user on my OS instead of setting it on the postgres role I have as my superuser / root. Anyways since this, I've been struggling with that user showing up in the account section and login screen, which I really would like to avoid. I've read through some docs about this, and setting the password to * should be all that is needed to fix this. But after several attempts doing this with and without dscl to no avail, I'm gotten to a point where I don't know what to do anymore. I didn't think it would be even hard doing this, but clearly I'm missing something, so how do you do this?

  • Mac OS X: How do I disable SSID Broadcasting with Internet Sharing over Airport?

    I'm currently using Internet Sharing from my Ethernet over Airport on my Macbook Pro, however I don't want my SSID broadcasted†. There doesn't seem to be an option in Sharing/System Preferences to hide my ssid or prevent broadcasting. Any ideas? † My parent's restaurant has a wifi router, but it's on the roof level where the cable was installed. The signal it gets is weak, but works for the macbook. Their iPhones and 802.11G based computers can't get the wifi connection, maybe 802.11N on the macbook gets better penetration. I figure they could use the airport sharing from the laptop. For a restaurant type setting I don't think having WPA or WPA2 is super important. There's nothing sensitive or insecure on the network, so I figure hiding the SSID would be good enough for their purposes. It's not even active 100% of the time.

    I'm trying to debug some keyboard combinations and shortcuts in iTerm2 and am looking for a program to read keyboard codes. Is there an app that I can run which will tell me the keyboard codes for the keys I'm pressing? The thing that is prompting this is I'm trying to replicate the control+a / control+e behavior in iTerm2 of moving the cursor to the start / end of the line - but using the arrow keys, but I can't seem to figure out the right keycodes to do this.

A:A is what I need the name of the file to be. B:2 is the content I need in the text file. So, A2 - "repair-video-game-Glassboro-NJ-08028.txt" is the file name and B2 to be the content in the file. Next, A3 is the file name and B3 is the content for the file, etc. ONCE the content reads what is in cell A16 and B16 (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can delete the additional files created. This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? 2nd Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:1 is what I need the name of the file to be. B:B is the content I want in the file. So, A2 - is the file name "geo-sitemap.xml" and B:B to be the content in the file (ignore the .xml file extension in the photo). ONCE the content cell reads what is in cell "B16" (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can adjust the cells that have need content (formulated content you see in the image is preset for 500 rows). This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? I can Provide the content in the cells that are filled in by excel formulas that are not not to be included in the .txt files. It is ok if it is not possible.
