  • Absolute URL Generation with Subdirectory in Rails

    - by Hulihan Applications
Hey Guys - I'm trying to find an easy way(without having to write any plugins or overrides to Rails) to generate an absolute url to a rails application being in a subdirectory. This url is going to be generated for theme images, not links, so I can't url link_to or url_for. Here's an example of what I want to do: <%= theme_image("delete_icon.png", :theme => "my_theme") %> If my app is running at http://localhost, This would return: <img src="/themes/my_theme/images/delete_icon.png"> but If my app is running at http://localhost/myapp, This would return: <img src="/myapp/themes/my_theme/images/delete_icon.png"> Can anyone point me in the right direction to generate a dynamic, absolute url to a non-routed resource?

  • Rails: What's the suggested approach to retrieve xml from an outside source

    - by Syrahn
Rails newbie (though long time programmer) here. I'm writing an test app that retrieves data from several outside sources (think Twitter, RSS feeds, etc.) and under certain circumstances, it stores that data in a db (or presents it to the user). The data model and the views are trivial. What I'm having difficulty with is making the actual xml HTTP call to the outside source and deserialize the xml response so I can query/use it in my controller/helper. What library/gem should I use to accomplish this? I tried looking this up around the net, but only came up with some article from 2006 which, knowing how fast Rails has developed, might well be completely deprecated. Your help is much appreciated.

  • undefined method `new_record?' for nil:NilClass

    - by TopperH
    In rails 3.2 I created a post controller. Each post can have a different number of paperclip attachments. To achieve this I created a assets model where each asset has a paperclip attachment. One post has_many assets and assets belong_to post. Asset model class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :post has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :thumb => "200x200>" } end Post model class Post < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :content, :title has_many :assets, :dependent => :destroy validates_associated :assets after_update :save_assets def new_asset_attributes=(asset_attributes) asset_attributes.each do |attributes| assets.build(attributes) end end def existing_asset_attributes=(asset_attributes) assets.reject(&:new_record?).each do |asset| attributes = asset_attributes[asset.id.to_s] if attributes asset.attributes = attributes else asset.delete(asset) end end end def save_assets assets.each do |asset| asset.save(false) end end end Posts helper module PostsHelper def add_asset_link(name) link_to_function name do |post| post.insert_html :bottom, :assets, :partial => 'asset', :object => Asset.new end end end Form for post <%= form_for @post, :html => { :multipart => true } do |f| %> <% if @post.errors.any? %> <div id="error_explanation"> <h2><%= pluralize(@post.errors.count, "error") %> prohibited this post from being saved:</h2> <ul> <% @post.errors.full_messages.each do |msg| %> <li><%= msg %></li> <% end %> </ul> </div> <% end %> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :title %><br /> <%= f.text_field :title %> </div> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :content %><br /> <%= f.text_area :content %> </div> <div id="assets"> Attach a file or image<br /> <%= render 'asset', :collection => @post.assets %> </div> <div class="actions"> <%= f.submit %> </div> <% end %> Asset partial <div class="asset"> <% new_or_existing = asset.new_record? ? 'new' : 'existing' %> <% prefix = "post[#{new_or_existing}_asset_attributes][]" %> <% fields_for prefix, asset do |asset_form| -%> <p> Asset: <%= asset_form.file_field :photo %> <%= link_to_function "remove", "$(this).up('.asset').remove()" %> </p> <% end -%> </div> Most of the code is taken from here: https://gist.github.com/33011 and I understand this is a rails2 app, anyway I don't understand what this error means: undefined method `new_record?' for nil:NilClass Extracted source (around line #2): 1: <div class="asset"> 2: <% new_or_existing = asset.new_record? ? 'new' : 'existing' %> 3: <% prefix = "post[#{new_or_existing}_asset_attributes][]" %> 4: 5: <% fields_for prefix, asset do |asset_form| -%>

  • Rails 2.3.8 Compound condition

    - by Michael Guantonio
I have a rails query that I would like to run. The only problem that I am having is the query structure. Essentially the query looks like this queryList = model.find(:all, :conditions => [id = "id"]) #returns a query list #here is the issue compound = otherModel.find(:first, :select => "an_id", :conditions => ["some_other_id=? and an_id=?, some_other_id, an_id]) Where an_id is actually a list of ids in the query list. How can I write that in rails to basically associate a single id to a list that may contain ids...

  • Rails - column not found for defined 'has_many' relationship

    - by Guanlun
I define a Post class which can link or be linked to multiple posts. To do this I added a PostLink class which specifies post_to and post_from. I generated the PostLink class by rails g model post_link from_post:integer to_post:integer and of course rake db:migrate, and added belongs_to :from_post, :class_name => 'Post' belongs_to :to_post, :class_name => 'Post' to the class. And I also have has_many :post_links in my Post class. I ran rails console and Post.new.post_links and got nil printed out, which is expected. However after I save a Post using p = Post.new p.save and then run p.post_links, it prints out the following error message: SQLite3::SQLException: no such column: post_links.post_id: SELECT "post_links".* FROM "post_links" WHERE "post_links"."post_id" = 1 So anybody know why after saving it to the database post_link can not be accessed?

  • Rails Devise: How to access sign up page after signed in?

    - by Junior rails programmer
hi All, I am new with rails and i am using "devise" gem for authentication purposes. At first i add a new user through default sign up page (E.g./users/sign_up) Then, i made "sign_up" page only available to signed_in users by following instructions from Devise before filter that prevents access to "new_user_registration_path" unless user is signed-in Now, after sign in process when i try open sign up page it always directs me to root_path! How can i access sign up page? My "roots.rb" file as follows: Example::Application.routes.draw do devise_for :users, :controllers => { :registrations => 'registrations'} resources :companies resources :orders resources :customers root :to => "welcome#index" end Thank you all!

  • Any Suggestions on How to Soup Up/ Mod a MacBook Pro 13"?

    - by 5arx
So I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13". Integrated GPU so not a games machine but fast enough for doing .Net development in VMs. I love the little thing and wanted to give it a Christmas present so thought I'd mod it up a bit and give it a boost. I'm probably going to go for a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive rather than full-on SSD (I need 500GB space) but was wondering if there are any other mods/tweaks people could suggest? I saw something online about swapping a HDD for the DVD drive and wondered if anyone had tried this or similarly drastic mods to the smallest of the MBPs. Cheers.

  • Starting Web Development, Confused between Ruby and PHP [closed]

    - by KyelJmD
I am on summer vacation, but I want to learn web development, The current programming language I know are the following C# Java C and I know the following scripting and markup language Javascript HTML and a little bit of PHP. but I wanted to know where would I learn most? should I venture on PHP? or Ruby on Rails? I don't have any experience or knowledge with regards to Ruby and of course ruby on rails, but I am gussing Ruby is a pre-requisite for learning the Ruby on rails framework right? Now the question, WHat are the pros and cons of both these language, is ruby worth learning just for Ruby on rails? and which has a higher market?

  • How can I create a facebook style message system in Rails 3?

    - by Angela
I am trying to create a basic message system that allows users to send messages to each other and display it in a simple "Inbox" that shows both messages received and sent, as well as the status of read or unread. Ideally I could reuse existing code. But if not, can someone provide a framework to help me do it? I started to use a single Message record that has UserMessage - one for the sender, one for the receiver. That way I could have separate status. But I'm not sure I'm quite doing it right and would like some guidance. Thanks.

  • Is Ruby on Rails' Active Record an example of Aspect-Oriented Programming?

    - by B Seven
From Clean Code, about Cross-Cutting Concerns: Note that concerns like persistence tend to cut across the natural object boundaries of a domain. You want to persist all your objects using generally the same strategy, for example, using a particular DBMS... Is Active Record an example of aspect-oriented programming? In AOP, modular constructs called aspects specify which points in the system should have their behavior modified in some consistent way to support a particular concern. This specification is done using a succinct declarative or programmatic mechanism. If Active Record is an example of AOP, what is the "aspect"? Is it the class declaration that inherits from Active Record? class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base

  • Ruby on rails not popular in big international IT companies?

    - by maro
I would like to ask you for advice more experienced ROR developers. I am new in programming and like to idea of ROR and I am before the decision on which programing language to specialize Java vs ROR. In the future I wish to learn for bigger international IT companies (IBM, Accenture etc.) but as I am reading their job openings, most of them are hiring Java, C++, .NET... Is the ROR used only in startups or also in bigger companies as well? What should be the reasons of their preference of Java over ROR?

  • When working with gems in Rails, what does 'cannot remove Object::ClassMethods' stem from?

    Frequently I have run into a problem when installing gems that provides a problem like: Does anyone know what this stems from? I've seen in it several different cases, yet still haven't learned what exactly is causing it. $ sudo rake gems:install --trace (in /u/app/releases/20100213003957) ** Invoke gems:install (first_time) ** Invoke gems:base (first_time) ** Execute gems:base ** Invoke environment (first_time) ** Execute environment rake aborted! cannot remove Object::ClassMethods /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:603:in `remove_const' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:603:in `remove_constant' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:603:in `instance_eval' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:603:in `remove_constant' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:549:in `new_constants_in' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:549:in `each' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:549:in `new_constants_in' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/railties/lib/tasks/misc.rake:4 /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:617:in `call' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:617:in `execute' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:612:in `each' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:612:in `execute' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:578:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/monitor.rb:242:in `synchronize' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:571:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:564:in `invoke' /u/app/releases/20100213003957/vendor/rails/railties/lib/tasks/gems.rake:17 /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:617:in `call' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:617:in `execute' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:612:in `each' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:612:in `execute' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:578:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/monitor.rb:242:in `synchronize' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:571:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:588:in `invoke_prerequisites' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:585:in `each' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:585:in `invoke_prerequisites' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:577:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/monitor.rb:242:in `synchronize' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:571:in `invoke_with_call_chain' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:564:in `invoke' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2027:in `invoke_task' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2005:in `top_level' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2005:in `each' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2005:in `top_level' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2044:in `standard_exception_handling' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:1999:in `top_level' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:1977:in `run' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:2044:in `standard_exception_handling' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/lib/rake.rb:1974:in `run' /usr/lib64/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.4/bin/rake:31 /usr/bin/rake:19:in `load' /usr/bin/rake:19

I've seen quite a few of these problems here on stackoverflow but all seem a bit different or have really complicated solutions. Is there something I'm missing? Something simple? Something stupid? I can provide additional info from the out file if necessary. I've read that some people use SQLite for dev and test then MySQL in prod but that sounds like a pretty horrible idea.

  • Rails destroy confirm with Jquery AJAX

    - by Mike
I have got this working for the most part. My rails link is: <%= link_to(image_tag('/images/bin.png', :alt => 'Remove'), @business, :class => 'delete', :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :id => 'trash') %> :class = "delete" is calling an ajax function so that it is deleted and the page isn't refreshed that works great. But because the page doesn't refresh, it is still there. So my id trash is calling this jquery function: $('[id^=trash]').click(function(){ var row = $(this).closest("tr").get(0); $(row).hide(); return false; }); Which is hiding the row of whatever trash icon i clicked on. This also works great. I thought I had it all worked out and then I hit this problem. When you click on my trash can I have this confirm box pop up to ask you if you are sure. Regardless of whether you choose cancel or accept, the jquery fires and it hides the row. It isn't deleted, only hidden till you refresh the page. I tried changing it so that the prompt is done through jquery, but then rails was deleteing the row regardless of what i choose in my prompt because the .destroy function was being called when the prompt was being called. My question really is how can i get the value to cancel or accept from the rails confirm pop up so that in my jquery I can have an if statement that hides if they click accept and does nothing if they click cancel. EDIT: Answering Question below. That did not work. I tried changing my link to: <%= link_to(image_tag('/images/bin.png', :alt => 'Remove'), @business, :class => "delete", :onclick => "trash") %> and putting this in my jquery function trash(){ if(confirm("Are you sure?")){ var row = $(this).closest("tr").get(0); $(row).hide(); return false; } else { //they clicked no. } } But the function was never called. It just deletes it with no prompt and doesn't hide it. But that gave me an idea. I took the delete function that ajax was calling $('a.delete').click (function(){ $.post(this.href, {_method:'delete'}, null, "script"); $(row).hide(); }); And modified it implementing your code: remove :confirm = 'Are you sure?' $('a.delete').click (function(){ if(confirm("Are you sure?")){ var row = $(this).closest("tr").get(0); $.post(this.href, {_method:'delete'}, null, "script"); $(row).hide(); return false; } else { //they clicked no. return false; } }); Which does the trick.

  • how to user ajax with json in ruby on rails

    - by fenec
I am implemeting a facebook application in rails using facebooker plugin, therefore it is very important to use this architecture if i want to update multiple DOM in my page. if my code works in a regular rails application it would work in my facebook application. i am trying to use ajax to let the user know that the comment was sent, and update the comments bloc. migration: class CreateComments < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :comments do |t| t.string :body t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :comments end end controller: class CommentsController < ApplicationController def index @comments=Comment.all end def create @comment=Comment.create(params[:comment]) if request.xhr? @comments=Comment.all render :json=>{:ids_to_update=>[:all_comments,:form_message], :all_comments=>render_to_string(:partial=>"comments" ), :form_message=>"Your comment has been added." } else redirect_to comments_url end end end view: <script> function update_count(str,message_id) { len=str.length; if (len < 200) { $(message_id).innerHTML="<span style='color: green'>"+ (200-len)+" remaining</span>"; } else { $(message_id).innerHTML="<span style='color: red'>"+ "Comment too long. Only 200 characters allowed.</span>"; } } function update_multiple(json) { for( var i=0; i<json["ids_to_update"].length; i++ ) { id=json["ids_to_update"][i]; $(id).innerHTML=json[id]; } } </script> <div id="all_comments" > <%= render :partial=>"comments/comments" %> </div> Talk some trash: <br /> <% remote_form_for Comment.new, :url=>comments_url, :success=>"update_multiple(request)" do |f|%> <%= f.text_area :body, :onchange=>"update_count(this.getValue(),'remaining');" , :onkeyup=>"update_count(this.getValue(),'remaining');" %> <br /> <%= f.submit 'Post'%> <% end %> <p id="remaining" >&nbsp;</p> <p id="form_message" >&nbsp;</p> <br><br> <br> if i try to do alert(json) in the first line of the update_multiple function , i got an [object Object]. if i try to do alert(json["ids_to_update"][0]) in the first line of the update_multiple function , there is no dialog box displayed. however the comment got saved but nothing is updated. questions: 1.how can javascript and rails know that i am dealing with json objects? 2.how can i debug this problem? 3.how can i get it to work?

  • Ruby XMLRPC::CLIENT issue under Rails 2.3.5 with Ruby 1.8.6

    - by TallGreenTree
I'm trying to implement a ping to an xmlrpc server written in PHP under CodeIgniter. The system currently works as expected when receiving pings from WordPress-based blogs, but I'm unable to generate a successful ping from Rails. The code I'm using to generate the ping is: server = XMLRPC::Client.new("digital466.local", "/schafercondoncarter/xmlrpc") result = server.call_async("ping", BLOG_CONFIG['title'], "http://digital466.local:3000") The code runs fine in Console, and retrieves a correctly formatted response from the server, but when I integrate the code into a rails observer or controller, I receive the following error message: Timeout::Error in PostsController#update execution expired RAILS_ROOT: /Users/digital466/Sites/sccblog Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:60:in `rbuf_fill' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/protocol.rb:132:in `rbuf_fill' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/protocol.rb:116:in `readuntil' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/protocol.rb:126:in `readline' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:2020:in `read_status_line' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:2009:in `read_new' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:1050:in `request' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:992:in `post2' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/xmlrpc/client.rb:529:in `do_rpc' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:543:in `start' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/xmlrpc/client.rb:528:in `do_rpc' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/xmlrpc/client.rb:435:in `call2_async' /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/xmlrpc/client.rb:425:in `call_async' /Users/digital466/Sites/sccblog/app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:89:in `update' Any assistance would be appreciated. • Rails: Single Table Inheritance and models subdirectories

    - by Chris
I have a card-game application which makes use of Single Table Inheritance. I have a class Card, and a database table cards with column type, and a number of subclasses of Card (including class Foo < Card and class Bar < Card, for the sake of argument). As it happens, Foo is a card from the original printing of the game, which Bar is a card from an expansion. In an attempt to rationalise my models, I have created a directory structure like so: app/ + models/ + card.rb + base_game/ + foo.rb + expansion/ + bar.rb And modified environment.rb to contain: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/**"] end However, when my reads a card from the database, Rails throws the following exception: ActiveRecord::SubclassNotFound (The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: 'Foo'. This error is raised because the column 'type' is reserved for storing the class in case of inheritance. Please rename this column if you didn't intend it to be used for storing the inheritance class or overwrite Card.inheritance_column to use another column for that information.) Is it possible to make this work, or am I doomed to a flat directory structure?

  • Rails App hangs after few requests

    - by Paddy
    I have Bitnami Rails stack installed on my Mac. To better explain my problem i created a simple scaffold based rails app with mysql as the backend. I can get to perform simple POST and GET requests for a while and after a few requests the app just hangs indefinitely. No exception caught or anything worthwhile in the development log to report this strange behavior. This is the last bit from the development log before the app froze: Processing WritedatasController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:38:51) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Load (0.7ms) [0m [0;1mSELECT * FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/index [4;35;1mWritedata Columns (2.9ms) [0m [0mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Completed in 99ms (View: 88, DB: 4) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas] [4;36;1mSQL (0.2ms) [0m [0;1mSET NAMES 'utf8' [0m [4;35;1mSQL (0.1ms) [0m [0mSET SQL_AUTO_IS_NULL=0 [0m Processing WritedatasController#new (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:38:52) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Columns (2.0ms) [0m [0;1mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/new Rendered writedatas/_form (5.9ms) Completed in 34ms (View: 25, DB: 2) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas/new] [4;36;1mSQL (0.4ms) [0m [0;1mSET NAMES 'utf8' [0m [4;35;1mSQL (0.1ms) [0m [0mSET SQL_AUTO_IS_NULL=0 [0m Processing WritedatasController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-30 20:39:17) [GET] [4;36;1mWritedata Load (0.7ms) [0m [0;1mSELECT * FROM `writedatas` [0m Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering writedatas/index [4;35;1mWritedata Columns (2.6ms) [0m [0mSHOW FIELDS FROM `writedatas` [0m Completed in 101ms (View: 90, DB: 4) | 200 OK [http://localhost/writedatas] It just hung at this point. • open flash chart rails x-axis issue

    - by Jimmy
Hey guys, I am using open flash chart 2 in my rails application. Everything is looking smooth except for the range on my x axis. I am creating a line to represent cell phone plan cost over a specific amount of usage and I'm generate 8 values, 1-5 are below the allowed usage while 6-8 are demonstrations of the cost for usage over the limit. The problem I'm encountering is how to set the range of the X axis in ruby on rails to something specific to the data. Right now the values being displayed are the indexes of the array that I'm giving. When I try to hand a hash to the values the chart doesn't even load at all. So basically I need help getting a way to set the data for my line properly so that it displays correctly, right now it is treating every value as if it represents the x value of the index of the array. Here is a screen shot which may be a better description than what I am saying: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/Xeno56/Screenshot.png Note that those values are correct just the range on the x-axis is incorrect, it should be something like 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 Code: y = YAxis.new y.set_range(0,100, 20) x_legend = XLegend.new("Usage") x_legend.set_style('{font-size: 20px; color: #778877}') y_legend = YLegend.new("Cost") y_legend.set_style('{font-size: 20px; color: #770077}') chart =OpenFlashChart.new chart.set_x_legend(x_legend) chart.set_y_legend(y_legend) chart.y_axis = y line = Line.new line.text = plan.name line.width = 2 line.color = '#006633' line.dot_size = 2 line.values = generate_data(plan) chart.add_element(line) def generate_data(plan) values = [] #generate below threshold numbers 5.times do |x| usage = plan.usage / 5 * x cost = plan.cost * 10 values << cost end #generate above threshold numbers 3.times do |x| usage = plan.usage + ((plan.usage / 5) * x) cost = plan.cost + (usage * plan.overage) values << cost end return values end

  • Rails PDF Generation with Prawn in IE7

    - by fluid_chelsea
I'm using Prawn and Prawnto to generate a PDF in a Ruby on Rails app (Rails version 2.2.2) which works great and generates PDFs happily and sends them to the user to download in Firefox. The problem is in IE7. I have a route set up like so: map.invoice_pdf '/invoices.pdf', :controller => 'invoices', :action => 'index', :format => 'pdf' Which I then have a link like so to call: invoice_pdf_path(:year => params[:year], :month => params[:month], :unpaid_only => params[:unpaid_only]) And the following in my controller: def index params[:year] = default params[:year] params[:month] = default params[:month] params[:page] ||= 1 @invoices = Arobl.find_invoices_for_customer(current_customer.strCustomerID, params) respond_to do |format| format.html{ render :action => 'index' } format.pdf{ prawnto :inline => false, :filename => "#{current_customer.strCustomerID}_invoice.pdf" end In FF this works as expected, when the link is clicked the show action is invoked with a format of .pdf, and responds with the correctly named PDF. When it's hit with IE7 it says that the file or website could not be found, and references "invoices.pdf" instead of the expected customer_id_invoice.pdf filename. Any idea what could be causing this behaviour? Thanks!

  • RMagic Error in rails, with AM Charts

    - by Elliot
    Hi Everyone, I'm using AMCharts and rails. AMCharts uses the Image Magic lib to export an image of the chart. In rails this is done with the gem, RMagic. In a controller this is implemented with the following controller method: def export width = params[:width].to_i height = params[:height].to_i data = {} img = Magick::Image.new(width, height) height.times do |y| row = params["r#{y}"].split(',') row.size.times do |r| pixel = row[r].to_s.split(':') pixel[0] = pixel[0].to_s.rjust(6, '0') if pixel.size == 2 pixel[1].to_i.times do (data[y] ||= []) << pixel[0] end else (data[y] ||= []) << pixel[0] end end width.times do |x| img.pixel_color(x, y, "##{data[y][x]}") end end img.format = "PNG" send_data(img.to_blob , :disposition => 'inline', :type => 'image/png', :filename => "chart.png?#{rand(99999999).to_i}") end When the controller is accessed however, I receive this error in the page: The change you wanted was rejected. Maybe you tried to change something you didn't have access to. And this error in the logs (its running on heroku btw): ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken (ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken): /home/heroku_rack/lib/static_assets.rb:9:in `call' /home/heroku_rack/lib/last_access.rb:25:in `call' /home/heroku_rack/lib/date_header.rb:14:in `call' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/connection.rb:80:in `pre_process' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/connection.rb:78:in `catch' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/connection.rb:78:in `pre_process' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/connection.rb:57:in `process' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/connection.rb:42:in `receive_data' eventmachine (0.12.6) lib/eventmachine.rb:240:in `run_machine' eventmachine (0.12.6) lib/eventmachine.rb:240:in `run' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/backends/base.rb:57:in `start' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/server.rb:150:in `start' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/controllers/controller.rb:80:in `start' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/runner.rb:173:in `send' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/runner.rb:173:in `run_command' thin (1.0.1) lib/thin/runner.rb:139:in `run!' thin (1.0.1) bin/thin:6 /usr/local/bin/thin:20:in `load' /usr/local/bin/thin:20 Rendering /disk1/home/slugs/149903_609c236_eb4f/mnt/public/422.html (422 Unprocessable Entity) Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

  • Change find method in database search so that it isn't case sensitive in Rails app

    - by Ryan
Hello, I am learning Rails and have created a work-in-progress app that does one-word searches on a database of shortcut keys for various programs (http://keyboardcuts.heroku.com/shortcuts/home). The search method in the Shortcut model is the following: def self.search(search) search_condition = "%" + search + "%" find(:all, :conditions => ['action LIKE ? OR application LIKE ?', search_condition, search_condition]) end ...where 'action' and 'application' are columns in a SQLite table. (source: https://we.riseup.net/rails/simple-search-tutorial) For some reason, the search seems to be case sensitive (you can see this by searching 'Paste' vs. 'paste'). Can anyone help me figure out why and what I can do to make it not case sensitive? If not, can you at least point me in the right direction? Database creation: I first copied shortcuts from various website into Excel and saved it as a CSV. Then I migrated the database and filled it with the data using db:seed and a small script I wrote (I viewed the database and it looked fine). To get the SQLite database to the server, I used Taps as outline by the Heroku website (http://blog.heroku.com/archives/2009/3/18/push_and_pull_databases_to_and_from_heroku/). I am using Ubuntu. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks in advance for you help, very much appreciated! Ryan
