  • Been asked a dozen times, but no luck from what I've read. Prevent Anchor Jumping on page load

    I'm currently working with WP theme that can be found here: sanjay.dmediastudios.com I'm currently using 'smooth scroll' on my page, I'm attempting to have the page smoothly scroll to the requested section when coming from an external link (for instance coming from the blog page takes you to sanjay.dmediastudios.com/#portfolio) from there I want the page to start at the top and THEN scroll to the portfolio section. What's happening is it briefly displays the 'portfolio section' (anchor jump) and THEN resets to the top and scrolls down. It's driving me nuts :(.   • Is there a way to prevent SQL Server silently truncating data in local variables and stored procedure parameters?

    I recently encountered an issue while porting an app to SQL Server. It turned out that this issue was caused by a stored procedure parameter being declared too short for the data being passed to it: the parameter was declared as VARCHAR(100) but in one case was being passed more than 100 characters of data. What surprised me was that SQL Server didn't report any errors or warnings -- it just silently truncated the data to 100 characters. The following SQLCMD session demonstrates this: 1 create procedure WhereHasMyDataGone (@data varchar(5)) as 2 begin 3 print 'Your data is ''' + @data + '''.'; 4 end; 5 go 1 exec WhereHasMyDataGone '123456789'; 2 go Your data is '12345'. Local variables also exhibit the same behaviour: 1 declare @s varchar(5) = '123456789'; 2 print @s; 3 go 12345 Is there an option I can enable to have SQL Server report errors (or at least warnings) in such situations? Or should I just declare all local variables and stored procedure parameters as VARCHAR(MAX) or NVARCHAR(MAX)?

  • How can I prevent infinite recursion when using events to bind UI elements to fields?

    The following seems to be a relatively common pattern (to me, not to the community at large) to bind a string variable to the contents of a TextBox. class MyBackEndClass { public event EventHandler DataChanged; string _Data; public string Data { get { return _Data; } set { _Data = value; //Fire the DataChanged event } } } class SomeForm : // Form stuff { MyBackEndClass mbe; TextBox someTextBox; SomeForm() { someTextBox.TextChanged += HandleTextBox(); mbe.DataChanged += HandleData(); } void HandleTextBox(Object sender, EventArgs e) { mbe.Data = ((TextBox)sender).Text; } void HandleData(Object sender, EventArgs e) { someTextBox.Text = ((MyBackEndClass) sender).Data; } } The problem is that changing the TextBox fires the changes the data value in the backend, which causes the textbox to change, etc. That runs forever. Is there a better design pattern (other than resorting to a nasty boolean flag) that handles this case correctly? EDIT: To be clear, in the real design the backend class is used to synchronize changes between multiple forms. Therefore I can't just use the SomeTextBox.Text property directly. Billy3

  • How do I prevent buffer overflow converting a double to char?

    I'm converting a double to a char string: char txt[10]; double num; num = 45.344322345 sprintf(txt, "%.1f", num); and using ".1f" to truncate the decimal places, to the tenths digit. i.e. - txt contains 45.3 I usually use precision in sprintf to ensure the char buffer is not overflowed. How can I do that here also truncating the decimal, without using snprintf? (i.e. if num = 345694876345.3 for some reason) Thanks

Is there a way to instruct jQuery UI to only set the <li> children of <ul id="main-tabs"> as the tabs? Note: I am currently in no position to change <ul id="filter-controls" into a non-ul element.

    I am working on a Excel 2007 workbook that will contain a macro to save the current sheet (a template) as a PDF file (no problem) a Excel 97-2003 file (problem) When saving the Excel file a messagebox appears asking about "Defined names of formulas in this workbook may display different values when they are recalculated...Do you want Excel to recalculate all formulas when this workbook is opened?". The user can then select Yes/No and then the file will save. How do I disable the messagebox from appearing? The default answer would be 'No'.     My program puts an icon in the system tray because the user may minimize to it. However, if the application crashes, or I stop the app from running in VS it leaves the icon in it until I hover over it with the mouse. Sometimes I'll look down there and there will be 10 or so icons. I can I make sure the icon goes away?

    Hello everyone! The following function copies a file from Source & Path to Dest & Path, normally setting file attributes to normal before copying. Yet, a user of my app has reported it to fail when copying readonly files, returning a permissions-related error. The user is however running the code as administrator, and the error happens - quite strangely - on the SetLastWriteTimeUtc line. Although the code reports that the file attributes are set to normal, windows explorer shows that they are set to read only.     Hi, Sorry for this vaguely described problem, but please look at the problem from the Win32 API's perspective. I'm writing a Word addin using Addin Express with Delphi, and I use some other 3rd party VCL's also, including virtual stringtree, TNT controls, etc. Now I cannot input Russian characters in Word anymore, but I can input English and Chinese....   • How do I prevent my table cell's textview from being editable after editing is done?

    So this is an interesting problem. I have custom tableviewcells that include a text field. When In my cellForRowAtIndexPath I have an if statement that determines whether or not the cell's text field should be editable- it looks like this: (self.isEditing) ? [infoCell.textField setEnabled:YES] : [infoCell.textField setEnabled:NO]; This actually works well - except for the issue I'm having. It makes it so that when the tableview is displayed, the rows' text field cannot be edited. When the user clicks "Edit" to put it into editing mode, then the text fields are enabled for editing. The Problem: When I am editing a field, and click "Done", it goes back to the regular tableview but the keyboard stays visible and the last cell's text field I was editing continues to be editable. What Should happen: The keyboard should go away and all the cells' text fields should no longer be editable. Any ideas about what could be going wrong? Things to look for? Thanks!

    There is a common practice of using <a></a> tags to markup beautiful buttons, with onlick and onhover style change, etc. Which looks and behaves great, on most part. Although there turned out to be a HUGE problem, which was not very obvious on start. The problem is that these beautiful "buttons" open new windows on middle click, either blank or with the same content as current one (depends on whether one uses # or javascript:; to disable href part). Now I've got JavaScript RIA with buttons all over it, opening new windows on middle click... Lame... At first I even couldn't understand why I get sometimes those blank pages in the browser. Since it's pretty established practice to use links in such manner, maybe there is any established way to deal with described problem?

    I'm playing with function-level linking in VC++. I've enabled /OPT:REF and /OPT:ICF and the linker is happy to eliminate all unused functions. Not so with variables. The following code is to demonstrate the problem only, I fully understand that actually having code structured that way is suboptimal. //A.cpp SomeType variable1; //B.cpp extern SomeType variable1; SomeType variable2; class ClassInB { //actually uses variable1 }; //C.cpp extern SomeType variable2; class ClassInC { //actually uses variable2; }; All those files are compiled into a static lib. The consumer project only uses ClassInC and links to the static library. Now comes the VC++ 9 linker. First the linker sees that C.obj references variable2 and includes B.obj. B.obj references variable1, so it includes A.obj. Then the unreferenced stuff elimination phase starts. It removes all functions in A.obj and B.obj, but not the variables. Both variable and variable2 are preserved together with their static initializers and deinitializers. That inflates the image size and introduces a delay for running the initializers and deinitializes. The code above is oversimplified, in actual code I really can't move variable2 into C.cpp easily. I could put it into a separate .cpp file, but that looks really dumb. Is there any better option to resolve the problem with Visual C++ 9?

  • How can you prevent a window being captured by Print-Screen?

    I noticed a few times than when I print-screen while Media Player is running, the content is replaced with a grey rectangle. I've no idea if it's deliberate due to DRM, or some technical issue, but it struck me that being able to deliberately block screen-capture might be a useful feature in some scenarios. Is there some specific message each HWND gets for print-screen - does Windows do a special repaint or simply dump buffers to the clipboard? I guess I'd prefer to focus this on Win32 specifically, but as long as it's Windows-related then fine.

    Is there a simple way to flatten a list while retaining the original types of list constituents?.. Is there a way to programmatically construct a heterogeneous list?.. For instance, I want to create a simple wrapper for functions like png(filename,width,height) that would take device name, file name, and a list of options. The naive approach would be something like my.wrapper <- function(dev,name,opts) { do.call(dev,c(filename=name,opts)) } or similar code with unlist(list(...)). This doesn't work because opts gets coerced to character, and the resulting call is e.g. png(filename,width="500",height="500"). If there's no straightforward way to create heterogeneous lists like that, is there a standard idiomatic way to splice arguments into functions without naming them explicitly (e.g. do.call(dev,list(filename=name,width=opts["width"]))? -- Edit -- Gavin Simpson answered both questions below in his discussion about constructing wrapper functions. Let me give a summary of the answer to the title question: It is possible to construct a heterogeneous list with c() provided the arguments to c() are lists.     I am using eclipse and I have two projects, project1 and project1-test. Below is the example layout of my projects: project1 -src --my.package ----MyClass.java --my.package.util ----util.java project1-test -src --my.package ----MyClassTest.java --my.package.util ----util.java MyClass.java makes a static call to the util.java in project1. MyClassTests.java is testing MyClass.java. When the test class runs, it fails and complains that MyClass.java is referencing a method in util.java that doesn't exist. Under project1, the method being referenced exists in util.java but under project1-test, the method doesn't. When I run MyClassTests.java, the util.java that is being referenced from MyClass.java is from project1-test when it should be project1. Is there some way to make MyClass.java not reference util.java from project1-test when running MyClassTest.java?

  • In C# or .NET, is there a way to prevent other threads from invoking methods on a particular thread?

    I have a Windows Forms application with a BackgroundWorker. In a method on the main form, a MessageBox is shown and the user must click the OK button to continue. Meanwhile, while the messagebox is being displayed, the BackgroundWorker finishes executing and calls the RunWorkerCompleted event. In the method I have assigned to that event, which runs on the UI thread, the Close method is called on the form. Even though the method that shows the message box is still running, the UI thread is not blocking other threads from invoking methods on it. So the Close method gets called on the form. What I want is for the UI thread to block other threads' invokes until the method with the message box has finished. Is there an easy way to do that?

  • Can I prevent IMAP from grabbing files over X mb using PHP?

    I'm building a little script that will connect to an IMAP account and grab the content of the email and also the attachments. It works well for the most part, but when a really large file comes in, it causes the script to time out. Is there any way that I can check the file size before trying to grab it? I think that would be the simplest solution. Otherwise, I may have to upgrade to a server that has more memory.
