  • Authlogic Facebook Connect and cucumber

    I added the authlogic_facebook_connect plugin to my project and I'm now having problem running my cucumber test because of a NoMethodError. undefined method `set_facebook_session' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) In authlogic_facebook_connect/Session.rb the method "authenticating_with_facebook_connect?" is called as some sort of callback and the controller is defined but is missing the 'set_facebook_session' method. def authenticating_with_facebook_connect? controller.set_facebook_session attempted_record.nil? && errors.empty? && controller.facebook_session end I don't understand why the cucumber test is not loading the controller with this method. I also test the app in development and cucumber environments and everything works perfect. Here is the full cucumber output.   • Rails model belongs to model that belongs to model but i want to use another name

    Hello. This may be a stupid question but im just starting to learn Rail thats why i am asking thsi question. I have one model called "User" which handles all the users in my community. Now i want to add a guestbook to every user. So i created a model called "user_guestbook" and inserted this into the new model: belongs_to :user and this into the user model: has_one :user_guestbook, :as => :guestbook The next thing i did was to add a new model to handle the posts inside the guestbook. I named it "guestbook_posts" and added this code into the new model: belongs_to :user_guestbook And this into the user_guestbook model: has_many :guestbook_posts, :as => :posts What i wanted to achive was to be able to fetch all the posts to a certain user by: @user = User.find(1) puts @user.guestbook.posts But it doesnt work for me. I dont know what i am doing wrong and if there is any easier way to do this please tell me so. Just to note, i have created some migrations for it to as follows: create_user_guestbook: t.integer :user_id create_guestbook_posts: t.integer :guestbook_id t.integer :from_user t.string :post Thanks in advance!

What I would like to do is add multiple checkboxes to my search form, so that users can mark multiple categories. (joined with or) Is this possible with searchlogic? The "Complex Aggregations" section of the README file seems to discuss that type of situation, but it doesn't exactly offer sample code, nor does it offer a way to do it in two queries instead of one joined query, which is worse for performance. I've been opting for b) as of late, but I did run into a little pickle: some_action.html.erb <% @dad.sons.each do |a_son| %> <%= render :partial => 'partial', :locals => { :son => a_son } %> <% end %> _partial.html.erb The son's name is <%= son.name %> The dad's name is <%= son.dad.name %> son.dad makes a database call to fetch the dad! So I would either have to access @dad, which would be going back to a) having partials access instance variables or I would have to pass @dad in locals, changing render :partial to <%= render :partial = 'partial', :locals = { :dad = @dad, :son = a_son } %, and for some reason passing a bunch of vars to my partial makes me feel uncomfortable.   • Convert input to integer before save in rails

    Hello, i have a set of select inputs representing a users birthday: birthyear, birthmonth and birthday. And i want to validate birthyear like this: validates_inclusion_of :birthyear, :in => Date.today.year-50..Date.today.year-12 So the user can be at least 12 years but at most 50 years when they are registering. But my problem is that the variable from the input is a string and not an integer. So how can i convert the input to an integer? or is there any easier way to check the users age? Thanks, Micke

    I have a standard ActiveRecord model with the following: class MyModel < ActiveRecord::Base custom_method :first_field, :second_field end At the moment, that custom_method is picked up by a module sent to ActiveRecord::Base. The functionality basically works, but of course, it attaches itself to every model class, not just MyModel. So if I have MyModel and MyOtherModel in the same action, it'll assume MyOtherModel has custom_method :first_field, :second_field as well. So, my question is: How do I attach a method (eg: def custom_method(*args)) to every class that inherits from ActiveRecord::Base, but not by attaching it to ActiveRecord::Base itself? Any ideas appreciated.

    Hello. I need to add a new column to my users table in the database. I want the type of the column to be set. The column represents the users gender. There should be two options to the set. One form Male "m" and the other for Female "f". But i havent found any doccumentation for adding a column with the set type. How can i do this?

    Hi, I'm looking for an open source project that provides a file manager type interface to S3. The ability to view files and "folders", add/edit/delete files/folders, etc. I've seen http://s3fm.com, but I'd like to host something like that myself. Does anything like this exist? Thanks.

  • Rails: creating a custom data type / creating a shorthand

    Hi, I am wondering how I could create a custom data type to use within the rake migration file. Example: if you would be creating a model, inside the migration file you can add columns. It could look like this: def self.up create_table :products do |t| t.column :name, :string t.timestamps end end I would like to know how to create something like this: t.column :name, :my_custom_data_type The reason for this to create for example a "currency" type, which is nothing more than a decimal with a precision of 8 and a scale of 2. Since I use only MySQL, the solution for this database is sufficient enough. Thank you for your feedback and comments!

    In the end I would like a text field that passes a client_id to the partial. I would like to do this asynchronously so the shipment_products partial would dynamically change when the textfield value was updated. What is the best way to do this?   • Memcached and Rails Fragment Caching Issue

    When I have 2 views that fragment cache the same query BUT display them differently, there is only one fragment and they both display it the same way. Is there any way around this?   • help with rails render action vs routing

    I was using some image cropping example that I found online and now I got confused. There is actually no "crop" method in my controller. Instead (following the guide) I put a render :action => 'cropping', :layout=> "admin" In my create method. That renders a page the view called cropping.html.erb . It works fine but I have no idea how to link or render that page otherwise, like if I wanted to hit a URL directly or press a button to recrop an image. Should I actually create a crop method in my controller and hook it up via routing if I want to be able to do this, or is there a way within my view to link to the same place that renders the cropping action? Sorry about the confusion :) It doesn't help that the first version of the tutorial did have a cropping method and he removed it!! Any explanation on why one method is better over the other would be great. Thanks!!

  • Rails - Multiple top level domains and a single session/cookie

    Hello all, I've been struggling with this for quite awhile and haven't been able to find a solution. I need a user to be able to view multiple top level domains with a single login. My understanding is that this needs to be set in environment.rb and called with before_dispatch. This is what I've come up with: require 'activesupport' require 'dispatcher' module ActionController class Dispatcher def set_session_domain ActionController::Base.session_options.update :session_domain => "#{@request.host}" end before_dispatch :set_session_domain end end However, this does not seem to be working when I try and pull the values from session[:session_domain]. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Nasty deep nested loop in Rails

    I have this nested loop that goes 4 levels deep to find all the image widgets and calculate their sizes. This seems really inefficient and nasty! I have thought of putting the organization_id in the widget model so I could just call something like organization.widgets.(named_scope), but I feel like that's a bad short cut. Is there a better way?
