    Is there a way to configure bash on Linux (red hat and ubuntu) to allow shell scripts to be encoded in UTF-8? I can't find a simple way to change just one little thing and have the whole system just use UTF-8 files without having to worry about encoding.

  • problem with zsh interactive shell

    When I use zsh in interactive mode, I get some glitches. This mainly happens when the command spills over onto a new line and I use backspace, with backspace leaving behind some glitches on the screen and moving the cursor to an odd position. It happens in a VT, in xterm and urxvt, although it is most noticeable with my chosen terminal, urxvt. When I use zsh as a login shell, it does not happen at all. What could be causing this?

    On Windows Vista, I right-click on a folder, Properties, Sharing tab, and either "Advanced Sharing" or "Share"-"Share" causes an error: Windows File Sharing This program will not run Access is denied. Close My user account is an "administrator" on this machine. I think this behavior changed since my computer was added to the new domain recently. I have other folders shared (from long ago), and they continue to be shared just fine.

    i wonder if there is any application for the linux bash shell to make it more easier to type. eg. if i type "c" then maybe it would give me all commands that starts with that letter for example "cd", "cp" etc. then if i type "cd" and press space it give me all the parameters for that command. is there application of this kind to automatize command typing?

drive and I get this error message whenever I try to double click c:\ drive or other drives but other than that everything seems to be working fince except that I can not access my drives.... its very   • Boost your infrastructure with Coherence into the Cloud

Thinking about the enterprise cloud, come to mind many possible configurations and new opportunities in enterprise environments. Various customers needs that serve as guides to this new trend are often very different, but almost always united by two main objectives: Elasticity of infrastructure both Hardware and Software Investments related to the progressive needs of the current infrastructure Characteristics of innovation and economy. A concrete use case that I worked on recently demanded the fulfillment of two basic requirements of economy and innovation.The client had the need to manage a variety of data cache, which can process complex queries and parallel computational operations, maintaining the caches in a consistent state on different server instances, on which the application was installed.In addition, the customer was looking for a solution that would allow him to manage the likely situations in load peak during certain times of the year.For this reason, the customer requires a replication site, on which convey part of the requests during periods of peak; the desire was, however, to prevent the immobilization of investments in owned hardware-software architectures; so, to respond to this need, it was requested to seek a solution based on Cloud technologies and architectures already offered by the market. Coherence can already now address the requirements of large cache between different nodes in the cluster, providing further technology to search and parallel computing, with the simultaneous use of all hardware infrastructure resources. Moreover, thanks to the functionality of "Push Replication", which can replicate and update the information contained in the cache, even to a site hosted in the cloud, it is satisfied the need to make resilient infrastructure that can be based also on nodes temporarily housed in the Cloud architectures. There are different types of configurations that can be realized using the functionality "Push-Replication" of Coherence. Configurations can be either: Active - Passive  Hub and Spoke Active - Active Multi Master Centralized Replication Whereas the architecture of this particular project consists of two sites (Site 1 and Site Cloud), between which only Site 1 is enabled to write into the cache, it was decided to adopt an Active-Passive Configuration type (Hub and Spoke). If, however, the requirement should change over time, it will be particularly easy to change this configuration in an Active-Active configuration type. Although very simple, the small sample in this post, inspired by the specific project is effective, to better understand the features and capabilities of Coherence and its configurations. Let's create two distinct coherence cluster, located at miles apart, on two different domain contexts, one of them "hosted" at home (on-premise) and the other one hosted by any cloud provider on the network (or just the same laptop to test it :)). These two clusters, which we call Site 1 and Site Cloud, will contain the necessary information, so a simple client can insert data only into the Site 1. On both sites will be subscribed a listener, who listens to the variations of specific objects within the various caches. To implement these features, you need 4 simple classes: CachedResponse.java Represents the POJO class that will be inserted into the cache, and fulfills the task of containing useful information about the hypothetical links navigation ResponseSimulatorHelper.java Represents a link simulator, which has the task of randomly creating objects of type CachedResponse that will be added into the caches CacheCommands.java Represents the model of our example, because it is responsible for receiving instructions from the controller and performing basic operations against the cache, such as insert, delete, update, listening, objects within the cache Shell.java It is our controller, which give commands to be executed within the cache of the two Sites So, summarily, we execute the java class "Shell", asking it to put into the cache 100 objects of type "CachedResponse" through the java class "CacheCommands", then the simulator "ResponseSimulatorHelper" will randomly create new instances of objects "CachedResponse ". Finally, the Shell class will listen to for events occurring within the cache on the Site Cloud, while insertions and deletions are performed on Site 1. Now, we realize the two configurations of two respective sites / cluster: Site 1 and Site Cloud.For the Site 1 we define a cache of type "distributed" with features of "read and write", using the cache class store for the "push replication", a functionality offered by the project "incubator" of Oracle Coherence.For the "Site Cloud" we expect even the definition of “distributed” cache type with tcp proxy feature enabled, so it can receive updates from Site 1.  Coherence Cache Config XML file for "storage node" on "Site 1" site1-prod-cache-config.xml Coherence Cache Config XML file for "storage node" on "Site Cloud" site2-prod-cache-config.xml For two clients "Shell" which will connect respectively to the two clusters we have provided two easy access configurations.  Coherence Cache Config XML file for Shell on "Site 1" site1-shell-prod-cache-config.xml Coherence Cache Config XML file for Shell on "Site Cloud" site2-shell-prod-cache-config.xml Now, we just have to get everything and run our tests. TEST 1The purpose of this test is to load the objects into the "Site 1" cache and seeing how many objects are cached on the "Site Cloud". Within the "Shell" launched with parameters to access the "Site 1", let’s write and run the command: load test/100 Within the "Shell" launched with parameters to access the "Site Cloud" let’s write and run the command: size passive-cache Expected result If all is OK, the first "Shell" has uploaded 100 objects into a cache named "test"; consequently the "push-replication" functionality has updated the "Site Cloud" by sending the 100 objects to the second cluster where they will have been posted into a respective cache, which we named "passive-cache". TEST 2The purpose of this test is to listen to deleting and adding events happening on the "Site 1" and that are replicated within the cache on "Cloud Site". In the "Shell" launched with parameters to access the "Site Cloud" let’s write and run the command: listen passive-cache/name like '%' or a "cohql" query, with your preferred parameters In the "Shell" launched with parameters to access the "Site 1" let’s write and run the following commands: load test/10 load test2/20 delete test/50 Expected result If all is OK, the "Shell" to Site Cloud let us to listen to all the add and delete events within the cache "cache-passive", whose objects satisfy the query condition "name like '%' " (ie, every objects in the cache; you could change the tests and create different queries).Through the Shell to "Site 1" we launched the commands to add and to delete objects on different caches (test and test2). With the "Shell" running on "Site Cloud" we got the evidence (displayed or printed, or in a log file) that its cache has been filled with events and related objects generated by commands executed from the" Shell "on" Site 1 ", thanks to "push-replication" feature.  Other tests can be performed, such as, for example, the subscription to the events on the "Site 1" too, using different "cohql" queries, changing the cache configuration,  to effectively demonstrate both the potentiality and  the versatility produced by these different configurations, even in the cloud, as in our case.   • "0x80004005: Unspecified error" when renaming folders in Windows 7

    Setup I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. The operating system is installed on an 80GB Intel X-25M. I have a secondary 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 to be used for storage. This second drive is mounted as 'G'. Problem I'm getting an error whenever I try to rename a folder within this drive. The error says: An unexpected error is keeping you from renaming the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error Clicking the "Try Again" button gets past the error, and correctly renames the folder. If I create a folder and leave it's name as "New Folder", then I don't see an error. I'm also able to manipulate files however I want without seeing an error. Things I've Tried Changing permissions on the drive Reformatting the drive. I've tried using both a "Basic" and "Dynamic" partition table. Checking the drive for errors using Microsoft tools Things I've Not Yet Tried When I first installed Windows I was given a choice between three types of partitions to use. I no longer remember what the choices were or what I selected. One was a GUID partition table, one was a traditional MBR, and I can't remember the third option.

Currently I am using rsync+cygwin, but backup is pretty slow (without shadow copy) and I hate console window appearing every day on my screen when I login. So I am looking for something like Windows Backup but with support for SFTP. Combination of tools will work too.

  • Windows 7 and wallpaper folders

    I try to change my desktop wallpaper and I cannot choose a different folder from the one I chose at first... When I first installed W7 I changed the wallpaper by right-clicking in the desktop and choosing Customize (maybe it's not correct because I use the italian version) and then Change Wallpaper in the bottom and finally I browsed for a folder with some images in and chose the wallpaper. When I do the same exact things now, the folder I select in the final pass is not selected: I mean its pictures are not shown and it doesn't appear in the drop-down list. I can put a specific picture as a wallpaper by selecting it through Explorer, and some times (not always) the folder shows in the drop-down list. Is there any possible solution to this?

  • Security permissions for remote shared folders

    I have two servers running Windows Server 2003, and I want copy files from one server (A), programmatically with a windows service running under the Local System account, to a shared folder on the other (B). I keep getting "access denied" errors, and I can't figure out what security settings I need to set to open the shared folder for writing. This is what I've done on the recieving end: On A, right-click on the folder to share, choose the tab "Sharing" and select "Share this folder". Set a share name. Click "Permissions", add the group "Everyone" and give it full control. I tried choosing the "Security" tab to give some permissions there as well, but the "Add" dialog only finds local users, despite the fact that B shows up in the "Workgroup computers" dialog. After further inspection, this is the case also for the "Permissions" dialog under the "Sharing" tab (are they the same?).

  • Auto-archive IMAP mail folders on OS X

    Hi, I am trying to achieve the following. Download all messages from mail server(and remove downloaded messages from server). Downloaded messages should be in a local mailbox preserving folder structure as was defined on server. The download process should be automatic and shouldn't create duplicates. I am on OSX and looking for solutions using Apple Mail or Thunderbird or similar. So far I have found POP is not the way to go (as it looses folder structure and potentially can cause duplicates). The solution described here seems very good but isn't yet available for thunderbird or apple mail. http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/auto_archive_and_keep_folder_structure. The other alternative is outlook which has auto archive which is paid and I think exports to pst instead of the more common mbox format. Yet another alternative is http://www.pop4.org/ which adds support for folder management to POP. Which I don't think is going to become usable soon. Any other better solutions.? Thank you

  • Setup site folders on Apache and PHP

    I'm trying to set up my first Apache server on my Windows PC at home and I have real trouble finding out which configuration settings go where. I downloaded and installed XAMPP which seemed to get everything nicely set up and can see a working website on http://localhost. So far so good. The point of this is to develop a website of course, and to make my life easier (irony?), I wanted to let the web site root point to my Eclipse project folder. So I opened httpd-vhosts.conf, uncommented a VirtualHost block and changed its DocumentRoot to my local path. Now when I try to load http://localhost I get a 403 (Access denied) error. So where do I configure permissions for my folder? And is that all I need to let my site run from the folder specified or am I going to have to clear another hurdle? Update: I tried to simplify things a little, so I reinstalled XAMPP and got back to a working http://localhost. Then I confirmed that httpd-vhosts.conf is included in httpd.conf and made the following changes to httpd-vhosts.conf: Uncommented the line NameVirtualHost *:80 Added a virtual host shown below. Restarted Apache and saw the expected page on http://localhost <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs/" ServerName localhost ErrorLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-error.log" CustomLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-access.log" combined </VirtualHost> I then created a new folder named C:\testweb, added an index.html file and changed the DocumentRoot line shown above. For all intents and purposes I would then expect the two configurations to be equivalent. But this setup gives me an error 403. Even though the C:\testweb folder already had the same permissions as the C:\xampp\htdocs folder, I then went further and gave the Everyone group full control of C:\testweb and got exactly the same problem. So what did I miss?

  • NGINX: Setting Different FastCGI Read Timeouts for Folders

    I have a PHP file in my /batch/ folder I run with an hourly CRON job. Unfortunately this process can often take a few minutes to complete so I have had to increase my fastcgi_read_timeout to 300 seconds for the entire server. I was wondering if it would be possible to change the fastcgi_read_timeout directive for only files in my /batch/ folder and not the entire server. For example something like this... location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_pass localhost:9000; fastcgi_read_timeout 5; location /batch/ { fastcgi_read_timeout 300; } include /usr/local/nginx/conf/fastcgi_params; } So basically all PHP files on the server would have a 5 second timeout except PHP files in my /batch/ folder. Is this possible?

  • How do you serve php files located outside of the apache folders

    I've just installed phpMyAdmin at /usr/share/phpMyAdmin on a CentOS 5 machine running webmin / virtualmin. I have also added an alias to the apache config, being the following line: Alias /phpMyAdmin /usr/share/phpMyAdmin So that when I visit www.foobar.com/phpMyAdmin it serves phpMyAdmin. The problem is that the php is not being parsed, and is instead being spat out with the html which greatly diminishes the usefullness of what I have done. How can I set up apache or php or whatever to parse phpMyAdmin correctly. When googling this I wasn't able to get an understandable answer, however the most common related question was whether I am running mod_php or as CGI. php is running via CGI Thanks

    I am setting up a small network and i am stuck at rerouting the Links folder on Windows 7. What i am trying to accomplish is to keep some particular directories stored on a server and all client computers will actually link to those folders, one of which is the Links folder. I took a look at the registry and found most of the things in : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders But the Links folder isn't there so im wondering if it's possible to sync that folder over several PCs too without moving all the user directories to the server Any hint is appreciated!

  • `which python` points to the python I want, but `python` runs the wrong version

    I want to use python24 provided by ports, so I've installed it, and python_select -s shows that the version I want is indeed selected. Running which python gives /opt/local/bin/python, and running /opt/local/bin/python gives me the version I want. However when I run python from the shell, I get the /usr/bin/python version instead. I don't have a python alias. Here's the situation in a nutshell: I believe the path is set up sensibly, and which python seems to confirm this. alias only returns 1 entry, which is something unrelated to this. Nevertheless, running python from the bash shell gives me the wrong python! I'm kind of stumped! What am I overlooking?

  • Windows Vista Nested Desktop Folders Problem

    I have no idea how, nor when this happened, and it's started to really quite annoy me. When navigating through Explorer, by clicking on Icons I have C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop (Icon is the blue special Desktop icon), which contains the items I see on my Desktop. I then have the following folder: C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop (Icon is the standard yellow folder icon), which contains many program shortcuts, and is completely seperate from the other C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop Then in the Yellow Icon Desktop I have the sub-folder Desktop with the blue icon that is a direct mirror of the blue C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop folder (as in a new folder / file shows up in both). In explorer when I directly type C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop I am taken to the Yellow folder version. If I go to C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop\Desktop I am taken to the Blue folder version. Finally, from cmd cd'ing to C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop takes me to the Yellow folder version whilst C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop\Desktop takes me to the blue folder version. How on earth can I get rid of the yellow folder version leaving the blue C:\Users\Samuel\Desktop. I can't delete either as it says they're in use. UPDATE: Ok, so it looks like doing a dir from cmd lists only one Desktop folder - the Yellow one. In addition, it looks like I can't delete either of them (given that they both contain my 'Desktop'

  • Default permissions for courier imap folders

    I'm using courier imap. When a mail client creates a new folder, it's created on the filesystem with 640 permission. I need it to be writable by the group, or 660. I currently have /etc/courier/imapd IMAP_UMASK=007, but that's not enough. I'm not sure what else to try. Any ideas? I'm using ubuntu server 12.04. EDIT: I added a 50pt bounty to this. For an acceptable answer, I need a way to make it work from a package in a standard repo. If I download source and compile it myself, it won't be automatically kept up to date with security fixes. If I don't find a better answer, I'll add code to the admin script to call another sudo approved script to chmod -R the whole directory before every change. But this is kind of hack-ish.

  • Windows Explorer folders jumping

    Windows Explorer in Windows 7 seems to jump around more than previous versions. The directory forlders seem to want to reposition the directory "just right" in the display. So opening a subfolder can cause a significant shift in the display. Aside from annoying, this has also caused a different directory to be positioned under my cursor and a file or sub-sub-directory to be opened incorrectly. (I'm not talking here about keeping things onscreen). Any way to slow this down?
