  • Silverlight - Timeout Issue

    - by user70192
Hello, I have a Silverlight 3 application that is querying a large dataset. This query is taking over one minute. After approx. one minute into the attempt, an error is getting logged into the event viewer that says: "Membership credential verification failed" Oddly queries that are taking shorter than 1 minute are running successfully. Because of this, I do not believe it is a "credential" issue, unless somehow it is expiring. But how do I set the expiration? I have no idea what else this could be. Thank you,

  • silverlight adding single prism command delegate to a list of items in xaml

    - by bobwah
I'm building a menu using Prism (using a trtelerik tree view with hierarchy data templates but hopefully the details don't matter) and I'm trying to set up a Click.Command on each menu items bindings that will all call the same delegate command which is defined in the view model. The menu is built up out of items which I don't really want to put any references to the command in. How do I bind the command to each of these items in xaml? I've looked around and it looks like in WPF I could use a relative source binding and find ancestors but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this in silverlight. Can I setup the delegate as a static resource somehow? I don't think I can create a static resource to the view model as this uses Unity to resolve paramters to it's constructor.

  • Login Functionality For Silverlight Application

    - by peter
Hi All, I have a silverlight application that requires the user to login. The problem is when you hit the refresh button on the web page it reloads the site, and requires the user to login again. What I want it to do is act like ASP .NET where the user will remain logged in for 20 minutes even if they hit the refresh button. What mechanism is ASP .NET using to achieve this? Does it use session variables for instance, and how does it expire after 20 minutes? Thanks.

  • Read XML from an XDocument with silverlight

    - by user625310
Hi I have managed to load an XDocument with xml data from this link http://go.yr.no/go/e/main/http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Telemark/Sauherad/Gvarv/forecast.xml. I am using C# and .Net in Blend and producing a web app (ie some of the normal .Net functions is not included in the silverlight plugin). I have researched this a lot but can not figure out: how to put the "text" in the link node in a string variable and how to all put the "-11" from ? in a array and link it to the "time from"? I think i have to use LINQ, but the stuff on MSDN and other tutorials is confusing and to general. huge thank in advance Regards Arnt I am sorry to ask such novice questions, but i have searched a lot. Also please excuse the typos, English is not my first language. Huge thank in advance Arnt

  • Handling multiple async HTTP requests in Silverlight serially

    - by Jeb
Due to the async nature of http access via WebClient or HttpWebRequest in Silverlight 4, when I want to do multiple http get/posts serially, I find myself writing code that looks like this: doFirstGet(someParams, () => { doSecondGet(someParams, () => { doThirdGet(... } }); Or something similar. I'll end up nesting subsequent calls within callbacks usually implemented using lambdas of some sort. Even if I break things out into Actions or separate methods, it still ends up being hard to read. Does anyone have a clean solution to executing multiple http requests in SL 4 serially? I don't need things to be synchronous, I just want serial execution.

  • Silverlight PRISM and 'loose' style files

    - by Suiva
Hi, We are looking at starting a new Silverlight project using the PRISM framework (to benefit from modules etc) and I am still a little unclear about the best styling approach. What I'd ideally like is to have editable XAML files (maybe even just 1 for the whole project) containing the application's style so that they can be edited to change the look and feel of the application without having to recompile everything. Is this approach something people use? I guess it would need to load the file in at startup and apply the style which I assume wouldn't be a massive overhead. Just wondering what approaches people use Thanks for your time

  • Silverlight caching HTTP POST which results in a 404

    - by Steav
Situation: I am developing a Silverlight-Application which needs Component based on a local HTTP Listener. The HTTP-Listener can't be 'required' to be installed and running when the Application starts, so the Application does the following: Handshake via HTTP POST If Connection failed open a Click-Once Setup to install the component. So far so good.... now the Problem is: If the HTTP POST for the Handshake fails, because the Listener is not running the POST is cached.... and the following Connection Attempts after the Service is running fail, because the HTTP POST is still in Cache after the first try. NOTE: This is NOT a policy-problem. I'm using SL4 PS: I allready tried adding a random parameter to the URL like First try: Second try: didn't work :-(

  • Dynamically adding Views in Silverlight & MVVM

    - by dvox
Hi all, I am starting to re-write my whole silverlight business application in the MVVM pattern; My first stop-point is this: I have a page (View1) with corresponding ViewModel1 (with a property 'IEnumerable AllData'); Now, within this View, I want to have i.e. a tree-view control, in which one node will be populated with another View2; My question is: 1. How to do it? - I can't loop through the AllData property since it is asynchronously loaded... - thus I don't know the number of View2s' to insert - I don't know how to do it from ViewModel1 :( Will I need ViewModel2 with property 'MyDataEntity CurrentData'? or I can bind to AllData property from ViewModel1 Can you help me out? Thanks

  • Silverlight Question: How can I find the DataTemplate corresponding to an item in a ListBox

    - by morpheus
I have two classes A & B, and a listbox. I assign listBox.ItemsSource equal to a collection of objects of type A. The listbox items are visualized using silverlight data templating, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.datatemplate.aspx and http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/UserControlAsDataTemplate.aspx for example. The listbox.ItemTemplate is a DataTemplate that uses class B to visualize the listbox items. Now, in my code-behind, inside any method of class B, if I do this.DataContext, it points to an object of type A. Thus, given an object of type B, I can find the corresponding object of type A. So far so good. My question is, given an object of type A, how can I navigate to the corresponding object of type B? Is this even possible in SL?

  • Regarding Creating Business application using Silverlight

    - by vijay
Hi, We are in the conceptual phase to create a relatively medium size enterprise business product application using Silver light 4.0, Entity Framework and WCF. 1. Is it adivceable to use Silverlight 4.0 for this enterprise business application development or should we go in for MVC.NET / ASP.NET? 2. We have planned to use REST based WCF service. How complex would it be to write the information back to the REST WCF service? I appreciate and welcome your advice / suggestion. If you need any further details do let me know, i will be happy to share. Thanks in advance.

  • Silverlight and Active Directory Interaction

    - by Refracted Paladin
I am planning to familiarize(read teach) myself with Silverlight by building an in-house app for managing our employees. I, obviously, would need this to interact with Active Directory on some level. What are my options? Has anyone tried this before? I am currently going to explore using Services(WCF???) to do the AD interaction portion? Thoughts? There is also this SO Post on using PowerShell to interact with AD. Maybe that is a possibility? Thanks, EDIT: Too clarify what I meant by "...interact with Active Directory..." I was referring to being able to create New Users, reset they're passwords, change they're Member Of groups, etc. Not JUST authenticating through AD. Does this make it clearer?

  • Silverlight Memory Usage

    - by peter
Hi All, Is there a way to measure the current memory usage of the silverlight plug-in from within the client side C# code? I am isolating a memory leak and it would be good to know the current memory usage of the plug-in. For instance it could be logged to a file before I clicked a button that it was using '60 mb' and after I clicked the button it was using '70 mb' etc. I could then gradually add in controls and use this technique to quantify the leak. Thanks.

  • Where best to instantiate and close a Silverlight-enabled WCF Service from the Silverlight app?

    - by Yttrium
When using a Silverlight-enabled WCF service, where is the best place to instantiate the service and to call the CloseAsync() method? Should you say, instantiate an instance each time you need to make a call to the service, or is it better to just instantiate an instance as a variable of the UserControl that will be making the calls? Then, where is it better to call the CloseAsync method? Should you call it in each of the "someServiceCall_completed" event methods? Or, if created as a variable of the UserControl class, is there a single place to call it? Like a Dispose method, or something equivalent for the UserControl class. Thanks, Jeff

  • Is there a Silverlight week picker control?

    - by Jason Young
We have a report that compares data between weeks, and it seems like this is the exception and not the rule in the reporting world. I'm looking for an elegant way of selecting "a week" in a Silverlight control. I'd prefer not to spend the time building it ourselves, so it would be nice if I could buy a well polished control that does this. Sure, I could use a drop down list, but I would like a way to easily navigate through potentially years worth of weeks. Any existing controls out there? Any clever ways of using basic controls to achieve our goal? Thank you!

  • Get the size of a Silverlight window

    - by Aidenn
Hey! I'm creating a Silverlight 4 Out Of Browser application. I have my MainPage that will be the "central" application. I want to be able to display another Control next to the MainPage, by using a Popup and I want it to be displayed right next to the MainPage. How can I get the coordinates of the upper right corner of the MainPage at each moment? (Beware that this MainPage can be moved all over the screen and hence I will need to dynamically get the corner coordinates, in order to display my popup right next to the main window). Any thoughts on this? Thank you!! PS: the code is in C# :-)

  • Programmatic binding in Silverlight

    - by MojoFilter
    I'm missing the boat on something here, kids. This keeps rearing its head and I don't know what's going on with it, so I hope my homeys here can help. When working in Silverlight, when I create bindings in my c# code, they never hold up when the application is running. The declarative bindings from my xaml seem ok, but I'm doing something wrong when I create my bindings in C#. I'm hoping that there is something blindingly obvious I'm missing. Here's a typical binding that gets crushed: TextBlock tb = new TextBlock(); Binding b = new Binding("FontSize"); b.Source = this; tb.SetBinding(TextBlock.FontSizeProperty, b);

  • Silverlight Windows Phone 7: Load Images From URL

    - by Lennie De Villiers
Hi, I got the code below that is trying to load an image from the web into an Image control, when I run it I get an error on the given line that no network access is allowed: private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { WebClient webClientImgDownloader = new WebClient(); webClientImgDownloader.OpenReadCompleted += new OpenReadCompletedEventHandler(webClientImgDownloader_OpenReadCompleted); webClientImgDownloader.OpenReadAsync(new Uri("http://dilbert.com/dyn/str_strip/000000000/00000000/0000000/000000/80000/5000/100/85108/85108.strip.print.gif", UriKind.Absolute)); } void webClientImgDownloader_OpenReadCompleted(object sender, OpenReadCompletedEventArgs e) { BitmapImage bitmap = new BitmapImage(); bitmap.SetSource(e.Result); // ERROR HERE! image1.Source = bitmap; } Silverlight for Windows Phone 7

  • Sending large XML from Silverlight to SVC (WCF)

    - by alexbf
Hi! I want to send a big XML string to a WCF SVC service from Silverlight. It looks like anything under about 50k is sent correctly but if I try to send something over that limit, my request reaches the server (BeginRequest is called) but never reaches my SVC. I get the classic "NotFound" exception. Any idea on how to raise that limit? If I can't raise it? What are my other options? Thanks, Alex

  • Silverlight 4 Binding to ConverterParameter

    - by FrEEzE2046
Hello everybody, I have a ValueConverter which needs to be called with a dynamic parameter, depending on a property. I can't see a way to do this ... Width="{Binding ActualWidthValue, Source={StaticResource VisibleSize}, Converter={StaticResource Fraction}}" The "Fraction" converter get's (or should get) a parameter of type System.Size, which contains a numerator and denumerator. This value (should) depend on a ItemCollection.Count. Resetting the ItemCollection should reinvoke the Converter with the new values. My first idea was to manually change the ConverterParameter in CodeBehind on the PropertyChanged event of my ItemCollection DependencyProperty. But, as I know now, Silverlight has no GetBinding() method. I heard about GetBindingExpression and tried to do. But MyGrid.GetBindingExpression(Grid.ActualHeightProperty) is always returning null, although the Binding is already established. So, what can I do to reach my target?

  • How to create StackedBarSeries with custom tooltip without losing standard colors

    - by Simon_Weaver
    I have a StackedBarSeries in Silverlight 4 charting (latest release). I have created a DataPointStyle called MyDataPointStyle for a custom tooltip. By itself this breaks the standard palette used for the different bars. I've applied a custom palette - as described in David Anson's blog to the chart. However when I have the DataPointStyle set for my SeriesDefinition objects it does not use this palette. I'm not sure what I'm missing - but David specifically says : ... it enables the use of DynamicResource (currently only supported by the WPF platform) to let users customize their DataPointStyle without inadvertently losing the default/custom Palette colors. (Note: A very popular request!) Unfortunately I'm inadvertently losing these colors - and I can't see why? <chartingToolkit:Chart.Palette> <dataviz:ResourceDictionaryCollection> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Blue"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Green"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary> <Style x:Key="DataPointStyle" TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Red"/> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> </dataviz:ResourceDictionaryCollection> </chartingToolkit:Chart.Palette> <chartingToolkit:Chart.Series> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries> <chartingToolkit:SeriesDefinition IndependentValueBinding="{Binding SKU}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Qty}" DataPointStyle="{StaticResource MyDataPointStyle}" Title="Regular"/> <chartingToolkit:SeriesDefinition IndependentValueBinding="{Binding SKU}" DependentValueBinding="{Binding Qty}" DataPointStyle="{StaticResource MyDataPointStyle}" Title="FSP Orders"/> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.IndependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:CategoryAxis Title="SKU" Orientation="Y" FontStyle="Italic" AxisLabelStyle="{StaticResource LeftAxisStyle}"/> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.IndependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.DependentAxis> <chartingToolkit:LinearAxis Orientation="X" ExtendRangeToOrigin="True" Minimum="0" ShowGridLines="True" /> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries.DependentAxis> </chartingToolkit:StackedBarSeries > </chartingToolkit:Chart.Series> </chartingToolkit:Chart>

  • Dataform fields won't appear

    - by dsetton
Hello! I am trying to learn how to use the Silverlight 3 DataForm control, because I need to define the DataForm fields myself in the XAML code, that is, I don't want to use the AutoGenerateFields property. My problem is: the dataform works perfectly when the AutoGenerateFields is set to true, but when I create a DataForm and set the fields manually and run the application, all I get is an empty blank rectangle where my form and its fields should be. I created a blank Silverligh Navigation Application to test this, and below is the code of the Home.xaml page: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <StackPanel> <!-- This doesn't work. It renders a blank rectangle --> <dataFormToolkit:DataForm x:Name="DataForm"> <dataFormToolkit:DataForm.EditTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel dataFormToolkit:DataField.IsFieldGroup="True"> <dataFormToolkit:DataField> <TextBox Text="Test1" /> </dataFormToolkit:DataField> <dataFormToolkit:DataField> <TextBox Text="Test2" /> </dataFormToolkit:DataField> <dataFormToolkit:DataField> <TextBox Text="Test3" /> </dataFormToolkit:DataField> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </dataFormToolkit:DataForm.EditTemplate> </dataFormToolkit:DataForm> <!-- This works. --> <dataFormToolkit:DataForm x:Name="DataForm2"/> </StackPanel> </Grid> To make the second DataForm work, I simply created a Person class, and put the following in Home.xaml.cs: protected override void OnNavigatedTo(NavigationEventArgs e) { Person client = new Person { Age = 10, DateOfBirth = new DateTime(1980, 10, 20), FirstName = "John", LastName = "Doe" }; DataForm2.CurrentItem = client; } You can see what happens when I run the application in the following link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1946004/image.PNG (I don't have enough points to post images, so...) Does anyone know what's wrong? Thank you in advance.

  • Treeview - Hierarchical Data Template - Binding does not update on source change?

    - by ClearsTheScreen
Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. XAML - page: <controls:TreeView x:Name="SankeyTreeView" ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource expandedTreeViewItemStyle}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource SankeyTreeTemplate}"> <controls:TreeViewItem IsExpanded="True"> <controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="This is just for loading and will be replaced directly after the data becomes available..."/> </DataTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem> </controls:TreeView> XAML - ResourceDictionary <!-- Each node in the tree is structurally identical, hence only one Hierarchical Data Template that'll use itself on the children. --> <Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate x:Key="SankeyTreeTemplate" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <Grid Height="24"> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockName" Text="{Binding Path=Value.name, Mode=TwoWay}" VerticalAlignment="Center" Foreground="Black"/> <TextBox x:Name="TextBoxFlow" Text="{Binding Path=Value.flow, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{box\}}"/> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockThroughput" Text="{Binding Path=Value.throughput, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{block\}}"/> <Button x:Name="ButtonAddNode"/> <Button x:Name="ButtonDeleteNode"/> <Button x:Name="ButtonEditNode"/> </Grid> </Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate> Now, as you can see, the TextBoxFlow and the TextBlockThroughput share the same space. What I aim at: The "Throughput" value of a node is how much of something 'flows' through this node from its children. It can't be changed directly, so I want to display a text block. Only leaf nodes have a TextBox to let someone enter the 'flow' that is generated in this leaf node. (I.E.: Node.Throughput = Node.Flow + Sum(Children.Throughput), where Node.Flow = 0 for each non-leaf.) What the BoxConverter (silly name -.-) does: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if ((value as NodeList<TreeItem>).Count > 1) // Node has Children? { if ((parameter as String) == "{box}") { return Visibility.Collapsed; } else ((parameter as String) == "{block}") { return Visibility.Visible; } } else { /* * As above, just with Collapsed and Visible switched */ } } The structure of the tree that is bound to the TreeView is essentially stolen from Dan Vanderboom (a bit too much to dump the whole code here), except that I here of course use an ObservableCollection for the children and the value items implement INotifyPropertyChanged. I would be very grateful if someone could explain to me, why inserting items into the underlying tree does not update the visibility for box and block. Thank you in advance!

  • Refactoring multiple interfaces to a common interface using MVVM, MEF and Silverlight4

    - by Brian
    I am just learning MVVM with MEF and already see the benefits but I am a little confused about some implementation details. The app I am building has several Models that do the same with with different entities (WCF RIA Services exposing a Entity framework object) and I would like to avoid implementing a similar interface/model for each view I need and the following is what I have come up with though it currently doesn't work. The common interface has a new completed event for each model that implements the base model, this was the easiest way I could implement a common class as the compiler did not like casting from a child to the base type. The code as it currently sits compiles and runs but the is a null IModel being passed into the [ImportingConstructor] for the FaqViewModel class. I have a common interface (simplified for posting) defined as follows, this should look familiar to those who have seen Shawn Wildermuth's RIAXboxGames sample. public interface IModel { void GetItemsAsync(); event EventHandler<EntityResultsArgs<faq>> GetFaqsComplete; } A base method that implements the interface public class ModelBase : IModel { public virtual void GetItemsAsync() { } public virtual event EventHandler<EntityResultsArgs<faq>> GetFaqsComplete; protected void PerformQuery<T>(EntityQuery<T> qry, EventHandler<EntityResultsArgs<T>> evt) where T : Entity { Context.Load(qry, r => { if (evt == null) return; try { if (r.HasError) { evt(this, new EntityResultsArgs<T>(r.Error)); } else if (r.Entities.Count() > 0) { evt(this, new EntityResultsArgs<T>(r.Entities)); } } catch (Exception ex) { evt(this, new EntityResultsArgs<T>(ex)); } }, null); } private DomainContext _domainContext; protected DomainContext Context { get { if (_domainContext == null) { _domainContext = new DomainContext(); _domainContext.PropertyChanged += DomainContext_PropertyChanged; } return _domainContext; } } void DomainContext_PropertyChanged(object sender, System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventArgs e) { switch (e.PropertyName) { case "IsLoading": AppMessages.IsBusyMessage.Send(_domainContext.IsLoading); break; case "IsSubmitting": AppMessages.IsBusyMessage.Send(_domainContext.IsSubmitting); break; } } } A model that implements the base model [Export(ViewModelTypes.FaqViewModel, typeof(IModel))] public class FaqModel : ModelBase { public override void GetItemsAsync() { PerformQuery(Context.GetFaqsQuery(), GetFaqsComplete); } public override event EventHandler<EntityResultsArgs<faq>> GetFaqsComplete; } A view model [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared)] [Export(ViewModelTypes.FaqViewModel)] public class FaqViewModel : MyViewModelBase { private readonly IModel _model; [ImportingConstructor] public FaqViewModel(IModel model) { _model = model; _model.GetFaqsComplete += Model_GetFaqsComplete; _model.GetItemsAsync(); // Load FAQS on creation } private IEnumerable<faq> _faqs; public IEnumerable<faq> Faqs { get { return _faqs; } private set { if (value == _faqs) return; _faqs = value; RaisePropertyChanged("Faqs"); } } private faq _currentFaq; public faq CurrentFaq { get { return _currentFaq; } set { if (value == _currentFaq) return; _currentFaq = value; RaisePropertyChanged("CurrentFaq"); } } public void GetFaqsAsync() { _model.GetItemsAsync(); } void Model_GetFaqsComplete(object sender, EntityResultsArgs<faq> e) { if (e.Error != null) { ErrorMessage = e.Error.Message; } else { Faqs = e.Results; } } } And then finally the Silverlight view itself public partial class FrequentlyAskedQuestions { public FrequentlyAskedQuestions() { InitializeComponent(); if (!ViewModelBase.IsInDesignModeStatic) { // Use MEF To load the View Model CompositionInitializer.SatisfyImports(this); } } [Import(ViewModelTypes.FaqViewModel)] public object ViewModel { set { DataContext = value; } } }
