    Our two server SharePoint 2007 SP2 farm has an issue. Event ID 6482 appears in the Application log of the Web front end many times a day. Often many time a minute. Powers that be, move this question over there.] Please give this a quick read and let me know if I'm missing something before I start trying to make this work. I'm not a systems admin professional, and I'd hate to end up banging my head into the wall if I can avoid it. Goals: Create a 'road-warrior' capable star shaped virtual LAN for consultants who spend the majority of their time on client sites, and who's firm has no physical network or servers. Enable CIFS access to a cloud-server based installation of Alfresco Allow Eventual implementation of some form of single-sign-on ( OpenLDAP server ) access to Alfresco and other server applications implemented in the future Given: All Servers will live in the public internet cloud (Rackspace Cloud Servers) OpenVPN Server will be a Linux disto, probably Ubuntu 9.x, installed on same server as Alfresco (at least to start) Staff will access server applications and resources from client sites, hotels, trains, planes, coffee shops or their homes over various ISP, using their company laptops or personal home desktops.     I want to print out a derived class using the operator<<. When I print the derived class, I want to first print its base and then its own content.   • Configure an Azure VM for Dynamic DNS for Cloud Services

    I am trying to setup an azure VM with proper DNS to allow multiple cloud services to communicate across cloud service boundaries. As I understand it, I need to provide my own DNS server. I do not have any on-premise infrastructure, so I am trying to configure an Azure VM to act as my DNS. This SO question (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21858926/azure-how-to-connect-one-cloud-service-with-other-in-one-virtual-network) is very similar to my setup. This article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/jj156088.aspx) describes my particular case: Name resolution between virtual machines and role instances located in the same virtual network, but different cloud services Here is what I have done: Created Azure Virtual Network and declared subnets for each of my cloud services. Created an Azure VM (Windows 2012 R2) with DNS enabled RDP to the VM and enabled the DNS role and installed features Added the appropriate NetworkConfiguration xml section to each of my cloud services .csfg files Re-deployed my cloud services I have verified that I setup the virtual network and networkconfiguration properly because my cloud service hosts are able to communicate with each other if I use the internal ips. However, name resolution doesn't appear to be working, and it doesn't appear that my cloud service roles can communicate with my DNS server. How do I configure my VM so that my different cloud services roles register themselves with my DNS server? EDIT: I think I am 1 step closer to getting this to work. The cloud services that I was using are in an old affinity group which is not supported by VMs, so I was unable to add my VM into my virtual network. I created a new VNET in a new affinity group with my VM added into it. However, I still don't know how to configure the azure VM's DNS server so that the cloud services register themselves for name resolution. Also, an added bonus guaranteed to get a +1 would be to explain if it is possible to register a DNS entry for the VIP for an internal endpoint of my cloud services so we can get load balancing.   • Sparse virtual machine disk image resizing weirdness?

    I have a partitioned virtual machine disk image created by vmware. What I want to do is resize that by 10GB. The file size is showing as 64424509440. Or 60GB. So I ran this: dd if=/dev/zero of=./win7.img seek=146800640 count=0 It ran without errors and I can verify the new size is in fact 75161927680 bytes or 70GB. This is where it gets a little odd. I started the guest domain in xen which is a Windows 7 enterprise machine. What I was expecting to see in diskmgmt.msc is 2 partitions. 1 system partition at the start of around 100MB and near 60GB partition (which is C drive) followed by around 10GB of free space. Actually what I saw was a 70GB partition!?! That confused me... so I decided to run the Check Disk which when you set it on the C drive it asks you to reboot so it'll run on boot. So I did that and during the boot it ran the checks. It got all the way through stage 3 and didn't show any errors at all. Looked at the partitions in disk manager and now C drive has shrunk back to 60GB and there is no free space. What gives? Ok, I thought I'd try mounting it under Dom0 and examining it with fdisk. When I run sudo cfdisk /dev/xvda I get: FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 1: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder Press any key to exit cfdisk So I guess this is a bigger problem than first thought. How can I fix this? EDIT: Oops, the cylinder boundary thing is not a problem at all since disks have used LBA etc. So that threw me for a moment... still the problem exists... SQL Bangalore – we had very first meeting on Nov 24, 2012 and very soon we are going to have another User Group meeting. The goal is to keep up a monthly rhythm of User Group meeting. In the very first meeting we have five 30 minute session and had a fantastic time. We had the best of the best speakers presenting all the five sessions. The event was inaugurated by Vinod Kumar M by presenting on T-SQL Pitfalls. His excellent and eye-opening session was followed by Manas Dash. He enlightened everybody with functions introduced in SQL Server 2012. We had a surprise guest from Mumbai – Raj Chaodhary. If you know him he has a very interesting way to present sessions and he presented on SQL Joins. His hard to follow act was followed by Sudeepta who presented on Contained Database. This subject is quite entertaining and interesting. My session was last in order and I was eagerly waiting to present. I had decided to do something new this time so I had created around 52 slides and two demos. I was committed to go over all the 52 slides and both of the demos in 25 minutes of the time. I had interesting story as well. Though, I was a bit nervous I was able to go over a complete slide deck and demo in 25 minutes of the time I had. We also were very fortunate to have international guest Lynn Langit from USA present at the event as well. She presented an overview of the Big Data in very little time – something not everyone can do it efficiently. We are very thankful to our sponsor Pluralsight for awarding USD 300 worth Annual Subscription. It was the most awaited moment of the day.   • Travelling MVP #3: Community event in Varna, Bulgaria

    Second stop in my DevReach 2012 trip was at Varna. We had not much time to hang around there but this problem will get fixed next year if not before. But still we had sessions there with Dimitar Georgijev and I had also chance to meet local techies. Next time we will have more tech and beers for sure! We started in the morning from Bucharest and travelled through Ruse, Razgrad and Shumen to Varna. It’s about 275km. We used cab, local bus and Dimitar father’s car. We had one food stop in Ruse and after that we went directly to Varna. Here is our route on map. Varna is Bulgarian city that locates on western coast of Black Sea. I have been there once before this trip and it’s good place to have vacation under sun. Also autumn is there milder than here in Estonia (third day of snow is going on). Bulgaria has some good beers, my favorite mankind killer called rakia and very good national cuisine. Food is made of fresh stuff and it is damn good experience. It’s a little bit old style university but everything we needed was there and we had no problems with machinery. Sessions were same as in Bucharest. The user group in Varna is brand new and hopefully it will be something bigger one good day. At least I try to make my commits so they get on their feet quicker. As we had not much time to announce the event there was about 15 guys listening to us and I’m happy that it was not too much hyped event because still I was getting my first experiences with foreign audiences. After sessions we took our stuff to hotel and went to hang around with local techies. We had some good time there and made some new friends. Next time when I go to Varna I go back as more experienced speaker and I plan to do there one tougher and highly challenging session. Maybe somebody from Estonian community will join me and then it will be well planned surprise-attack to Varna :)

  • Notifying a separate application of an event

    I have an application that runs through various tasks as an automated process. My client would like me to create a file in a given folder for each task as a way to flag when each task completes. They prefer this to a database flag because they can be notified by the file system rather than continually polling a database table. I can do this but creating and deleting files as flags feels clunky. Is there a more elegant approach to notifying a third-party of an event?

  • Unhandled event loop exception "Unknown Mozilla path" with Eclipse 3.7.1

    I installed the Tizen SDK 2.0 which uses Eclipse 3.7.1 as an IDE on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit. When trying to create a Tizen Web Project I got the following error message from Eclipse: Unhandled event loop exception No more handles [Unknown Mozilla path (MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME not set)] The problem is that Eclipse is configured to use Xulrunner as a headless browser inside the IDE. Xulrunner is not in the repositories for Ubuntu 12.10 any more, therefore Eclipse is not able to find the libraries.
