• Using maven to distribute a swing application that can have each dependency individually tracked

  I'm moving my project to Maven and eventually OSGi. I currently distribute the project is a large Zip file with all the dependencies. Although my projects code is only 20% of the total package I have to redistribute all the dependency. With smaller independent modules this may be even less. Looking here on stack overflow it seems that to keep my current plan the maven-assembly-plugin should do the trick. I was considering having a base installer that would look at a XML manifest, then collect all the libraries that needed to be updated. This would mean that libraries that change occasionally would be downloaded less often. This also makes since for something like OSGi plugins (which could have independent release schedules). In essence I want my software to look and manage individual libraries, and download on demand (based on the manifest). I was wondering if there is a "maven way" of generating this Manifest and publishing all the libraries to a website? I believe the deploy life-cycle would do the second step. As an alternative, is there a OpenSource Java library that does this type of deployment? I don't want to embed Maven or something larger with the distributed code. The application is not for coders, the simpler the better, and the smaller the installer the better.

• What is a good automated data import method for SQL Server?

  I'm in the process of porting some SQL Server 2005 databases to SQL Server 2008. One of these databases has an associated import application (Windows task) which uses SSIS with a DTS package to import a large dataset from an MS Access database nightly. In upgrading to SQL Server 2008, I discovered that I can't run the same console application which has been performing the imports due to the missing manageddts DLL in SQL Server 2008. It's several years old and in need of a rewrite for various reason, plus, I've been fairly unhappy with DTS in general. The original reason DTS was chosen was for speed (5 min import time compared to 30+ for ADO.NET). The format of the data to import is out of my control (the client likes Access). I would also like to be able to run the import from a machine completely separate from the server hosting SQL Server and preferably with minimal SQL features installed. Options I've considered: Creating an Access application to connect to both databases (SQL Server and Access) and perform the import (Ugh!) Revisiting ADO.NET to see if the original implementation was poorly written. Updated SSIS packages. What other technologies should I be considering for this job?

• Antlr MismatchedSetException During Interpretation

  I am new to Antlr and I have defined a basic grammar using Antlr 3. The grammar compiles and ANTLRWorks generates the Parser and Lexer code without any problems. This is due to having the EMPTY. As soon as I remove EMPTY from the grammar, the interpretation works. I have looked on the Antlr website and some other examples and the Empty space is ' '. I am not sure what to do. I need this EMPTY. As soon as I change the EMPTY to be the following: EMPTY : ''; instead of: EMPTY : ' '; It actually interprets it. However, I am getting the following Exception: Interpreting... • Installer downloads wrong version of sql server compact edition

  I have a Visual Studio setup project which defines SQL Server 3.5 as prerequisite. I also set it up to download the required files from the source (i.e. Microsoft). My project uses Sql Server 3.5 SP1. If I create the installer on my development machine, everything works fine. When the installer is built on the build machine, it downloads the "old" 3.5 version (without SP1) which makes my application crash. (If I install SP1 on the test system manually, the application just works find...) I installed both Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and Sql Server 3.5 SP1 on the build machine. This seems to be some issue with the prerequisite packages but they look the same on the development and the build machines. Any idea what goes wrong here? EDIT Ok, I rechecked it and the package descriptions are'nt the sames. Oddly enough, the .msi file is the right one on the build machine but the old one on the development machine, so I guess if I tried to build an installer which includes the prerequisites, I'd get the wrong result on the dev machine and the right one on the build machine. Extended question: How are the prerequesite packages (under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SQL Server Compact Edition) meant to be updated to SP1? Is the SQL Server CE SP1 installer responsible for this?

  Hi, Background - I need a framework/approach to managed database updates for a .NET Winforms app being deployed on users PC's via clickonce deploy. The app uses a sqlite database. Q1. What mechanism does Subsonic use to run such migrations on the local PC? e.g. would it be MSBuild Q2. If it does need a tool like how can my application robustly kick off MsBuild? i.e. how can it be sure what path it is installed, what if it is not installed, should I be including the MSBuild.exe in the clickonce package so that I know it is there for sure myself? Q3. Any other suggestions on how to use Subsonic in this specific use case? Q4. Any comments on whether MigratorDotNet would be a better fit? (if someone has had experience with both) Q5. • SpeechRecognizer causes ANR... I need help with Android speech API.

  I'm trying to use Android's speech recognition package to record user speech and translate it to text. Unfortunately, when I attempt initiate listening, I get an ANR error that doesn't point to anything specific. As the SpeechRecognizer API indicates, a RuntimeException is thrown if you attempt to call it from the main thread. This would make me wonder if the processing was just too demanding... but I know that other applications use the Android API for this purpose and it is typically pretty snappy. java.lang.RuntimeException: SpeechRecognizer should be used only from the application's main thread Here is a (trimmed) sample of the code I'm trying to call from my service. • How do I manage dependencies for automated builds on my build server?

  I'm trying to implement continuous integration into our day to day workings. In our team, we're moving from just building our code in Visual Studio on our workstations and deploying, to using MSBuild.exe and automating on our build server (which is Jenkins) without the use of Visual Studio. We have external dependencies to references such as Automap in our projects. Because the automap (for example) dll isn't on the build server, the msbuild execution fails, for obvious reasons. There are other dll's which I need to be part of the build, I'm just using automap as an example. So what's the best way to get any dependencies onto the build server as part of the automated build? I've seen references to using a 'lib' folder, but I don't really understand where I should be putting it (in my project, filesystem, SVN ...?), and how the build server will get to it. I've also read that NuGet can do something with dependencies, but my build server isn't connected to the internet, and I don't understand how I can get my build to pull a NuGet package I may have created, and how it works together. Edit: I'm using subversion and we cannot use TeamCity as we would have to buy it and there's zero chance of funding.

• Android map performance with > 800 overlays of KML data

  I have some a shape file which I have converted to a KML file that I wish to read coordinates from and then draw paths between the coordinates on a MapView. With the help of this great post: How to draw a path on a map using kml file? I have been able to read the the KML into an ArrayList of "Placemarks". This great blog post then showed how to take a list of GeoPoints and draw a path: http://djsolid.net/blog/android---draw-a-path-array-of-points-in-mapview The example in the above post only draws one path between some points however and since I have many more paths than that I am running into some performance problems. I'm currently adding a new RouteOverlay for each of the separate paths. This results in me having over 800 overlays when they have all been added. This has a performance hit and I would love some input on what I can do to improve it. Here are some options I have considered: Try to add all the points to a List which then can be passed into a class that will extend Overlay. In that new class perhaps it would be possible to add and draw the paths in a single Overlay layer? I'm not sure on how to implement this though since the paths are not always intersecting and they have different start and end points. At the moment I'm adding each path which has several points to it's own list and then I add that to an Overlay. That results in over 700 overlays... Simplify the KML or SHP. Instead of having over 700 different paths, perhaps there is someway to merge them into perhaps 100 paths or less? Since alot of paths are intersected at some point it should be possible to modify the original SHP file so that it merges all intersections. Since I have never worked with these kinds of files before I have not been able to find a way to do this in GQIS. If someone knows how to do this I would love for some input on that. I think it might have something to do with iOS automatically choosing the @2x named version of images or vica versa. • Macports and virtualenv site-packages Fallback

  I've installed django and python as this link suggested with macports. However, I'd like to use virtualenv to install more packages. My understanding is that if I do not pass in the --no-site-packages to virtualenv, I should get the currently installed packages in addition to whatever packages I install into the virtual environment. Is this correct? • Is there a way to programatically check dependencies of an EXE?

  I've got a certain project that I build and distribute to users. I have two build configurations, Debug and Release. Debug, obviously, is for my use in debugging, but there's an additional wrinkle: the Debug configuration uses a special debugging memory manager, with a dependency on an external DLL. There's been a few times when I've accidentally built and distributed an installer package with the Debug configuration, and it's then failed to run once installed because the users don't have the special DLL. I'd like to be able to keep that from happening in the future. I know I can get the dependencies in a program by running Dependency Walker, but I'm looking for a way to do it programatically. Specifically, I have a way to run scripts while creating the installer, and I want something I can put in the installer script to check the program and see if it has a dependency on this DLL, and if so, cause the installer-creation process to fail with an error. I know how to create a simple CLI program that would take two filenames as parameters, and could run a DependsOn function and create output based on the result of it, but I don't know what to put in the DependsOn function. Does anyone know how I'd go about writing it?

• Where is the taglib definition of PrimeFaces 4?

  I am looking around how to define custom components in JSF. According to the Java EE tutorial, any custom component needs to be described in a taglib. When I take a look into the PrimeFaces source, I cannot find any taglib file or any hint where the namespace is bound and the available components are defined. I am adding primefaces jar to my dependencies, adding xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui to the xml namespace, defining some primfaces components on my page and it works... Ok, but neither I can find the related taglib in the source or binary package nor my IDE (IntelliJ) is able to find where "xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui" is pointing to. Therefore, code completion is also not possible. (all other mojarra taglibs are found.) Is it possible that PrimeFaces is defining the taglib via annotations directly in Java classes or is it generating it during runtime? I can easily find the UIComponents, primefaces defines in its source, but the configuration of the taglib seems to be missing. I am sure I just don't know how PrimeFaces is doing it, but the javaeetutorial is not describing any other opportunity than defining a ...-taglib.xml

• How to reference an embedded JCA resource adapater

  For our current J2EE project based on JBoss, we need to interface with a remote system using message driven beans and a JCA resource adapter provided as a RAR file by a third party. I would like to package and deploy the entire project as an EAR file to our JBoss server. Most notably, the RAR file should be embedded within the EAR file and not be deployed globally. All of this is working fine so far, but I'm not particularly happy with the way the RAR file is referenced. The jboss.xml packaged with the MDB for example, currently looks like this: <jboss> <enterprise-beans> <message-driven> <ejb-name>testBean1</ejb-name> <resource-adapter-name>test1.ear#thirdparty-1.0.rar</resource-adapter-name> </message-driven> </enterprise-beans> </jboss> While this is generally working fine, it will break when the EAR file is renamed to "test2.ear". Is there a way to reference the embedded RAR file without hard-coding the containing archive's name?
