• Xmail shows error at Gmail

  Hello I am using Xmail server at IP 65.75.241.26 hosted at www.softmail.me using which I can send and receive email to/from all email service providers but unable to receive back from Gmail. This error lies only with Gmail. Experts says that Gmail requires proper working MX records where as for other emailing providers do not bother much. Is MX records the solution for my problem? Or is there any other issue? My mailserver outgoing at softmail.me:25 My mailserver incoming at softmail.me:110 Please help me how to get rid of this issue.

• Windows media player rating stars disabled/greyed out

  I'm unable to rate any of my songs using WMP. I've been rating songs on WMP for some time. But suddenly, I can't rate/ change my ratings. I cant do it using the normal 5 star rating control at top of playlist Or using Right click song - Rate - 5 star But I'm able to rate using Windows Explorer "bottom properties pane" that comes on clicking on a file I'm unable to rate using WMP. The ratings don't even change color (gold/grey) on mouse hover. Please give me a solution without losing my existing rating

• Change cell formatting without VBA. Custom formatting?

  I have a dropdown field with two values in a form I am creating. The expected data in cell D15 changes depending on the selection. If Option A is selected then a dollar amount is expected. If option B is selected that a percentage is expected. I would like the cell to be formatted as 'accounting' w/ zero decimals for option A and 'percentage' with zero decimals if option B is selected. I do not want to use VBA, if possible. I'm hoping there is a custom formatting solution.

  I just started using VPNBOOK, which is a (very efficent) free VPN solution. I have a question: VPNBOOK user and pass used to connect to their vpn network are publicily available on their homepage; everybody uses them to connect to the vpn. Can a user intercept my wifi traffic and: Understand that my connections are directed to VPNBOOK servers. If point 1 is successful, then they could use VPNBOOK public user and pass to decrypt my traffic? I hope I am missing something, otherwise it would be a very big weakness and I would revert to a paid service (with a private account)

• Reverse DNS for two ADs in the same subnet

  I currently have two separate AD forests that exist within the same subnet. The two forests have independent copies of the reverse lookup zone for that subnet. Example: Domain A DC1: 10.1.1.1/24 Domain A DC2: 10.1.1.2/24 Domain A AppServer1:10.1.1.3/24 Domain B DC1: 10.1.1.11/24 Domain B DC2: 10.1.1.12/24 Domain B Appserver1:10.1.1.13/24 What I'm after, is a configuration that allows this reverse zone to be shared between them so that both sets of DNS servers can make updates to the zone. This kind of thing is a little far from my everday work, so a kick in the right direction is a welcome suggestion as well. Decoupling one AD into new segments is a possibility I'm open to but would like to avoid if possible. If there is a DNS related solution I'd prefer that.

• Camtasia on remote computer?

  I have a need to use one laptop for a live presentation (with projector, etc.), but record that presentation on another laptop -- similar to what I can do with Camtasia, only with the recording happening on another laptop. Is this possible? What do I need to do this? Some VGA device that goes between the presenting machine and the projector? Some USB device? My ideal requirements: The machines must be "standard" laptops (so I can't just add a new card to a desktop, etc.). I prefer a hardware solution, but cannot involve studio type equipment. I'd prefer not to install Camtasia (or similar) on the presenting machine for two reasons: licensing issues performance issues (sometimes the presentations are machine intensive and I don't want the recording software to interfere with the presentation) I'd appreciate any tips. I think firewall on the server is stopping my program to access that port. How can I configure the firewall of server to allow my program to use that port. • A fix for the design time error in MVVM Light V4.1

  For those of you who installed V4.1 of MVVM Light and created a project for Windows Phone 8, you will have noticed an error showing up in the design surface (either in Visual Studio designer, or in Expression Blend). The error says: “Could not load type ‘System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanging’ from assembly ‘mscorlib.extensions’” with additional information about version numbers. The error is caused by an incompatibility between versions of System.Windows.Interactivity. Because this assembly is strongly named, any version incompatibility is causing the kind of error shown here (for an interesting discussion on the strong naming issue, see this thread on Codeplex). I managed to resolve the issue for Windows Phone 8 and will publish a cleaned up installer next week. In the mean time, in order to allow you to continue development, please follow the steps: Download the new DLLs zip package (MVVMLight_V4_1_25_WP8). Right click on the Zip file and select Properties from the context menu. Press the “Unblock” button (if available) and then OK. Right click again on the zip package and select “Extract all…”. Select a known location for the new DLLs. Open the MVVM Light project with the design time error in Visual Studio 2012. Open the References folder in the Solution Explorer. Select the following DLLs: GalaSoft.MvvmLight.dll, GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Extras.dll, Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.dll and System.Windows.Interactivity.dll. Press “delete” and confirm to remove the DLLs from your project. Right click on References and select Add Reference from the context menu. Browse to the folder with the new DLLs. Select the four new DLLs and press OK. Rebuild your application, and open it again in Blend or in the Visual Studio designer. The error should be gone now. In the next few days, as time allows, I will publish a new MSI containing a fixed version of the DLLs as well as a few other improvements. • Can ping localhost but can't browse

  I know this is a pretty common question but I did my research and couldn't find a solution for this issue. I'm configuring a development application server and I came to the point where I can ping both localhost and 127.0.0.1, but I cannot browse either of them from IE or Firefox. I can browse and ping other websites (such as google) just fine. I tried flushing the dns (ipconfig /flushdns), restarting the IIS Admin service, restarting IIS itself, etc, and nothing seems to work. The results from ipconfig /all shows IP Rounting Enabled = No and WINS Proxy Enabled = No. Hwat is intriguing to me is that I compared everything in IIS in the dev environment with the production environment and the settings are the same, but I can browse localhost in production, but not in dev! What could be causing the inability to browse localhost and 127.0.0.1 from IE and Firefox?

• Part 4: Development Standards or How to share

  Although we usually introduce the custom development part in EBS projects as “a small piece only” and “we will avoid as best as possible”, the development effort can be enormous and should therefore be well addressed by project standards. Any additional solution or additional software tool or product shall influence the custom development rules (by adding, removing or replacing sections). It is very common in EBS projects to create a so called “MD.030 Development Standards” document and put everything what’s related to development conventions into it. This document gets approval and will be shared among all developers. Later, additional sections have to be added, and usually the development lead is responsible for doing this. However, sometimes used development techniques are not documented properly, and therefore the development solutions deviate from each other, or from the initially agreed standards. My advice would be the following: keep the MD.030 as a base document, and add a Wiki on top. The “Development Wiki” covers the following: Collect input from every developer without updating the MD.030 directly Collect additional topics that might need further specification Allow a discussion about such topics by reviewing/updating the wiki directly Add also decisions or open questions right into it. In one of my own projects we were using this “Developer Wiki” quite extensive, and my experience is very positive. We had different sections in it, good cross references, but also additional material like code templates, links to external web pages etc. By using this wiki, the development standards became “owned” by the right group of people, the developers. They recognized that information sharing can improve the overall development quality, but will also reduce the workload on individuals. Finally, the wiki was much more accurate and helpful for the daily development work than our initial MD.030, and we all decided to retire the document completely. Summary: Information sharing in the development area is very important! The usual “MD.030 Development Standards“ is a good starting point, but should be combined with a “Development Wiki”, allowing everyone to address and discuss necessary improvements. A well-structured Wiki can replace the document in some sections completely. • Rename Devices in Device Manager

  This is mostly just for the USB ports, as I recognize everything else in computers.... Anyways, is there a way to rename, or otherwise, identify which USB port (or other hardware for that matter) is which device in Device Manager? I know I can plug in a flash drive, then see what port it is connected with, and find out that way. What I would like though, is to find out that a certain plug is always a certain device in Device Manager. If I can then have a system in mind that always has the same order, I can look and see if a USB port is not being detected or not working properly, and as I uninstall/reinstall USB devices, I know I won't lose my keyboard or mouse, for example. • Datacenter Backup Strategy

  What are common approaches to backup solutions in remote data centers? I am already familiar with general backup principals and have a very good backup strategy for our local data center but am having great difficulty extending it to a remote data center. We currently do a full backup on Friday, differential Mon - Thu, rotate offsite Friday morning ...rinse and repeat week after week. BTW, we use disks and have been very happy with this approach. We could buy a large storage server and backup everything to it, but this solution doesn't give you offsite. We could encrypt and upload to Amazon or some other online storage but that would take a large amount of time given the data and would be rather expensive paying for the bandwidth leaving the data center and receiving at amazon. We could drive to the data center every Friday and continue to rotate disks as we do now. But that just seems old fashion. What am I missing, are there better options?

• Capturing BizTalk 2004 SQLAdapter failures

  I was recently working on a BizTalk 2004 project where I encountered an issue with capturing exceptions (inside my orchestration) occurring from an external source. Like database server down, non-existing stored procedure, …   I thought I might write-up this in case it might help someone …   To reproduce an issue, I just rename the database to something different.   The orchestration was failing at the point where I make a SQL request via a Response-Request Port. The exception handlers were bypassed but I can see a warning in the event log saying: "The adapter failed to transmit message going to send port "   After scratching my head for a while (as a newbie to BTS 2004) to find a way to catch the exceptions from the SQLAdapter in an orchestration, here is the solution I had.   ·         Put the Send and Receive shapes inside a Scope shape ·         Set the Scope’s transaction type to “Long Running” ·         Add a Catch block expecting type “System.Exception” ·         Set the “Delivery Notification” of the associated Port to “Transmitted” ·         Change the “Retry Count” of the associated port to 0 (This will make sure BizTalk will raise the exception, instead of a warning, and you can capture that) ·         Now capture and do whatever with the exception inside the Catch block

• How to monitor the size of files in Windows folder?

  What are some of good ways to automatically monitor the size of files in a directory and send warning email if they get close to a certain limit on a Windows server? I have a Progress DB installation to keep in check, and last week we hit some problems. Apparently, the size of extents has hit 2GB - and Progress won't work past that - we needed to open a new extent. I'm coming from a Linux environment, so I don't know what are the usual to monitor this in a Windows environment (or monitoring tools whatsoever). I prefer some generic solution, as I have a mixed environment (Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2). Thanks in advance for all usable alternative answers.

• VMware Kernel Module Updater hangs on Ubuntu 13.04

  VMware Player has a nice auto-detection of kernel changes, and requests the user to compile the required modules in order to load them. This happens from time to time after a regular update of your system. Usually, the dialog of VMware Kernel Module Updater pops up, asks for root access authentication, and completes the compilation. VMware Player or Workstation checks if modules for the active kernel are available. In theory this is supposed to work flawlessly but in reality there are pitfalls occassionally. With the recent upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail and the latest kernel 3.8.0-21 the actual VMware Kernel Module Updater simply disappeared and the application wouldn't start as expected. When you launch VMware Player as super user (root) the dialog would stall like so: VMware Kernel Module Updater stalls while stopping the services Prior to version 5.x of VMware Player or version 7.x of VMware Workstation you would run a command like: $ sudo vmware-config.pl to resolve the module version conflict but this doesn't work anyway. Solution Instead, you have to execute the following line in a terminal or console window: $ sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all Those switches are (as of writing this article) not documented in the output of the --help switch. But VMware already documented this procedure in their knowledge base: VMware Workstation stops functioning after updating the kernel on a Linux host (1002411). Update As of today I had the first kernel upgrade to version 3.8.0-22 in Ubuntu 13.04. Don't even try it without vmware-modconfig...

• No Games Installed with Windows 7 Professional

  Ordered a PC from HP with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit preinstalled, of course. No Win7 disc was included with computer. There are no games installed. I have tried to "activate" them through the Control Panel procedure, but each time I do it there is an error message telling me that not all components installed. And my Games folder is empty. Is there a solution? Synetech asked what I meant by "activate through Control Panel." I'm referring to the "Turn windows features on" procedure that's supposed to work for everybody. I'm sure it does for most, but it didn't for me.

• Non-blocking ORM issues

  Once I had question on SO, and found that there are no non-blocking ORMs for my favorite framework. I mean ORM with callback support for asynchronous retrieval. The ORM would be supplied with a callback or some such to "activate" when data has been received. Otherwise ORM needs to be split of in a separate thread to guarantee UI responsiveness. I want to create one, but I have some questions that blocking me from starting development: What issues we can meet when developing ORM? Does word "non-blocking" before word "ORM" will dramatically increase complexity of ORM? Why there are not much non-blocking ORMs around? Update: It looks, that I have to improve my question. We have solutions that already allows us to receive data in non-blocking way. And I believe that not all companies that use such solutions - using raw SQL. We want to create more generic solution, that we can reuse in future projects. What difficulties we can meet?

• Removing spam external links after pharma hack?

  Back in February my work's site was attacked by a pharma hack at the shared hosting end. I managed to find the placed file and the reference to run it in one of our files. I deleted this file, deleted and redownloaded all of the plugins and themes and reinstalled Wordpress. However I could never find the database entries no matter what I have read up on. Searching for known entries or for drug names backwards etc. On the Google and Bing end I have managed to deny and delete the entries and cache of most if not all of the bad links that the hack managed to instantly SEO to death (why don't these guys work legit and make more money?) However the one thing that is remaining is external links on the homepage that are invisible except when the site is viewed in google cache or scanned with unmaskparasites.com (and says that the external links are safe even though they're obviously not!). http://www.UnmaskParasites.com/security-report/?page=kmcharityteam.co.uk All sorts of website scans say there's nothing wrong with it and I can't find the source of the links in the header or footer or anywhere in the theme. I've searched for the links in the database but no use there either and they change every day so really I'd have to be looking for a generator? Does anybody have any advice or a solution for removing these links? Thanks!

• IIS site not resolved by DNS server

  I've a problem with my network. My Config: SVR01 (ws2008r2): DNS server and Domain Server SVR02 (ws2008r2): IIS (v7.5) Domain Clients In SVR02 there are many sites. When I try to connect on one site (such as: demo1.myhomesite.intra) the browser say "Internet Explor can not display the webpage". Well... In this case I found a workaround: unplug and plug the lan cable (or disable and enable wifi) in my client and the site work correctly. But this workaround is not a solution. Please, can you help me??

• Behaviour of nginx as proxy

  I'm testing nginx with different configurations to replace an architecture working with squid + apache. I know that I can use nginx to manage static requests and load balancing but I'm interested in one particular solution that I don't understand clearly: I'm using 2 nginx servers (balanced) with the proxy_pass setting to pass all requests to an apache server. When one client makes a request to the site one of the nginx servers process it and send it to the apache server. Now, how this behaviour could be an improvement to my system?, it seems that all requests are passing through apache and I don't see benefit at all. What happens when 100 simultaneous connections pass through nginx? The 100 connections will be going to the apache server or is some kind of internal behaviour that allows an small impact into apache?

• Wrong resolution for Lightdm/GDM on Ubuntu 13.04 using HDMI

  I've tried all the solution I could find on the matter so far, but the error persists. My problem is that the login screen (both under gdm and lightdm) runs with the wrong resolution, even though all is fine when I log in. The error occurs solely when I have my HDMI cable connected to my other screen. The login screen resolution becomes 1024x768 (for my 1366x768 laptop screen) and mirrored on my screen, which is 1920x1080. I've had this issue on version 12.04 (the last one before I upgraded to 13.04), but I got it fixed by adding the xrandr commands on the begining of the /etc/gdm/Init/Default file. This doesn't seem to work anymore. I've also tried telling lightdm to run a script fixing the resolution with xrandr (by editing /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf), but lightdm crashes, and I'm forced to log in with low graphic settigs. Hint: when ubuntu is loading, the resolution starts OK, then goes bad right before the login screen is initialized. Does that mean that there's nothing wrong with my graphic cards? What do you think? • How to integrate monit into web app deployment process

  I have: Tomcat with webapp deployed via mvn tomcat:redeploy. Monit, pinging the host and restarting server if ping failed. The thing is there in a moment during the redeployment when ping will fail - and this is normal, actually. So, the question is - what is the best way to teach monit to consider the fact of redeployment and not to confuse it with "real" black outs. This is of course an issue of balance between elegance, ease of implementation and scalability. The most straightforward solution I can think of - is just to shutdown monit before deployment and start it up after once again. But this if far from elegance I guess.

• What is the fastest CPU my laptop can support?

  I have a Dell Latitude D830 laptop and would like to speed up compile times on it. I have confirmed that it is, indeed, the processor time that is the bottleneck. How can I tell what processors are compatible with the motherboard to pick the best available? I run dual boot Ubuntu Maverick and Windows 7. lshw tells me that my motherboard is OHN338 from Dell, Inc. If anyone has a generic solution, i.e. "For motherboard X, here is how you find out what processors are supported," that would be make this question much more useful to future visitors. But if you also know of a way to find out specific to my model, that would be great as well.

• Vacation scheduler/viewer

  I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?
