• C# Winforms TabControl elements reading as empty until TabPage selected

  I have Winform app I am writing in C#. On my form, I have a TabControl with seven pages, each full of elements (TextBoxes and DropDownLists, primarily). I pull some information in with a DataReader, populate a DataTable, and use the elements' DataBindings.Add method to fill those elements with the current values. The user is able to enter data into these elements, press "Save", and I then set the parameters of an UPDATE query using the elements' Text fields. For instance: updateCommand.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; The problem I have is that once I load the form, all of the elements are apparently considered empty until I select each tab manually. Thus, if I press "Save" immediately upon loading the form, all of the fields on the TabPages that I have not yet selected try to UPDATE with empty data (not nice). As I select each TabPage, those elements will now send their data along properly. For the time being, I've worked out a (very) ugly workaround where I programmatically select each TabPage when the data is populated for the first time, but that's an unacceptable long-term solution. My question is, how can I get all of the elements on the TabPages to return their data properly before the user selects that TabPage?

• Find the "largest" dense sub matrix in a large sparse matrix

  Given a large sparse matrix (say 10k+ by 1M+) I need to find a subset, not necessarily continuous, of the rows and columns that form a dense matrix (all non-zero elements). I want this sub matrix to be as large as possible (not the largest sum, but the largest number of elements) within some aspect ratio constraints. Are there any known exact or aproxamate solutions to this problem? A quick scan on Google seems to give a lot of close-but-not-exactly results. What terms should I be looking for? edit: Just to clarify; the sub matrix need not be continuous. In fact the row and column order is completely arbitrary so adjacency is completely irrelevant. A thought based on Chad Okere's idea Order the rows from largest count to smallest count (not necessary but might help perf) Select two rows that have a "large" overlap Add all other rows that won't reduce the overlap Record that set Add whatever row reduces the overlap by the least Repeat at #3 until the result gets to small Start over at #2 with a different starting pair Continue until you decide the result is good enough

• I have made an installer for MyProgram but the uninstall shortcut that it creates leaves behind empt

  I have created an installer for MyProgram using the Visual Studio Installer (Visual Studio Setup Project). It is called "MyProgram Setup.msi". It installs the program fine and if it is uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs control panel then everything gets removed as it should. The problem is that I want to add a shortcut to the "User's Programs Menu" under the program shortcut called "Uninstall MyProgram". I have tried doing this in 3 different ways and in all 3 ways if MyProgram is uninstalled using that shortcut, the uninstall will leave behind 2 empty folders ("...Program Files\MyCompany\" and "...Program Files\MyCompany\MyProgram\"). Here are the 3 ways that I have tried to make an uninstaller shortcut: 1) A shortcut to a batch or script file Uninstall MyProgram.bat: @ECHO OFF msiexec /uninstall {MyGUID} Uninstall MyProgram.vbs: Dim objShell Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") objShell.Run("START /B msiexec /uninstall {MyGUID}") Set objShell = Nothing 2) Editing the MSI file using Orca.exe I found out how to do this using this guide: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/install/MSIShortcuts.aspx I added the Shortcut Entry to the Shortcut table. Uninstalling worked but it still left behind the 2 empty folders when using this shortcut. 3) From code within MyProgram.exe I modified MyProgram.exe to take a "/uninstall" command line parameter to run "msiexec.exe /uninstall {MyGUID}" and exit itself. Similar to this solution: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/install/DeployUninstall.aspx None of these attempts created a shortcut which can uninstall the program as well as the program's base folders. I don't want to switch to some other installer product such as Inno Setup, NSIS, or WiX.

• Logging in worker threads spawned from a pylons application does not seem to work

  I have a pylons application where, under certain cirumstances I want to spawn multiple worker threads to process items in a queue. Right now we aren't making use of a ThreadPool (would be ideal, but we'll add that in later). The main problem is that the worker threads logging does not get written to the log files. When I run the code outside of the pylons application the logging works fine. So I think its something to do with the pylons log handler but not sure what.   I am new to nHibernate and having some issues getting over the learning curve. My current question involves passing a string value as a parameter to a stored sproc. The error I get is: Input string is not in correct format. • LINQ to Entity, using a SQL LIKE operator

  I have a LINQ to ENTITY query that pulls from a table, but I need to be able to create a "fuzzy" type search. So I need to add a where clause that searches by lastname IF they add the criteria in the search box (Textbox, CAN be blank --- in which case it pulls EVERYTHING). Here is what I have so far: var query = from mem in context.Member orderby mem.LastName, mem.FirstName select new { FirstName = mem.FirstName, LastName = mem.LastName, }; That will pull everything out of the Member table that is in the Entity object. Then I have an addition to the logic: sLastName = formCollection["FuzzyLastName"].ToString(); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(sLastName)) query = query.Where(ln => ln.LastName.Contains(sLastName)); The problem is when the search button is pressed, nothing is returned (0 results). I have run the query against the SQL Server that I expect to happen here and it returns 6 results. This is the query I expect: SELECT mem.LastName, mem.FirstName FROM Members mem WHERE mem.LastName = 'xxx' (when xxx is entered into the textbox) Anyone see anything wrong with this?

  Should the view have nothing event specific in its interface and call the presenter plain methods to handle events and not have any official EventHandlers? My intention is to understand the benefits of each style and not just a blanket answer of which to use. My main goals is clarity and high value testability. Testability overall is important, but I wouldn't sacrifice design simplicity and clarity to be able to add another type of test that doesn't lead to too much gain over the test cases already possible with a simpler design. If a design choice does off more testability please include an example (pseudo code is fine) of the type of test it can now offer so I can make my decision if I value that type of extra test enough. • Help with stock ticker style scrolling using Core Animation

  Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on the best way to implement stock ticker style right-to-left scrolling of CALayers in Core Animation on OSX. I'm pretty new to Cocoa and don't know the best way to implement this. I have a continuous stream of news items and stock details that I turn into CALayers (made up of 1 image and a CATextLayer) and I want to animate the CALayers from right to left of my custom view. The news and stock information is constantly updating so I would like to add 1 item at a time to the view, scroll it right to left until the right-most point of the CALayer is showing, then add another CALayer to the view and start scrolling that as well. I would like to do this dynamic updating instead of taking a big snapshot of all my data, turning it into a big horizontal CALayer and scrolling that. I'm looking for guidance on how to achieve this sort of effect - do I manually animate each new CALayer along a path in the view? Or should I be using CAScrollLayer to achieve this effect? • Best way to escape characters before jquery post ASP.NET MVC

  Hello, I am semi-new to ASP.NET MVC. I am building an app that is used internally for my company. The scenario is this: There are two Html.Listbox's. One has all database information, and the other is initally empty. The user would add items from the database listbox to the empty listbox. Every time the user adds a command, I call a js function that calls an ActionResult "AddCommand" in my EditController. In the controller, the selected items that are added are saved to another database table. Here is the code (this gets called every time an item is added): function Add(listbox) { ... //skipping initializing code for berevity var url = "/Edit/AddCommand/" + cmd; $.post(url); } So the problem occurs when the 'cmd' is an item that has a '/', ':', '%', '?', etc (some kind of special character) So what I'm wondering is, what's the best way to escape these characters? Right now I'm checking the database's listbox item's text, and rebuilding the string, then in the Controller, I'm taking that built string and turning it back into its original state. So for example, if the item they are adding is 'Cats/Dogs', I am posting 'Cats[SLASH]Dogs' to the controller, and in the controller changing it back to 'Cats/Dogs'. Obviously this is a horrible hack, so I must be missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a Radgrid with 2 Textboxes and 2 DatePickers. The idea is that I have a grid with a Property name, value, valid from and until. I'm filling the first Textbox myself, the user has to fill in the value, from and until. Filling in the propertynames: (In the pageload) foreach (String s in testProperties) { DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); dr[0] = s; dr[1] = ""; dr[2] = ""; dr[3] = ""; dt.Rows.Add(dr); } When the user hit "Save" I have to read out all the data he filled in. When i read out the data all my 'str' have the value "" instead the data that the user fills in. Question is, how comes my values in the texboxes remain ""? Or is their a better way to read out the data?

I would like to collect ideas/suggestion/expectations from an opensource CMS system for ASP.net platform. • Intellij Javafx artifact - how do you make it?

  I've been trying all day to turn my javafx application into a jar file. I'm using Java 1.7 update 7. Oracle has some information, but it just seems scattered all over the place. Intellij is almost doing the job, but I get the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javafx/application/Application Which seems to say that I need to tell java where the jfxrt.jar is... If I add this jar to my classpath info for the manifest build in intellij - ctrl+shift+alt+s - Artifacts - Output Layout tab - Class Path, then I get another error: Could not find or load main class com.downloadpinterest.code.Main It seems strange to have to include jfxrt.jar in my class path though... I've tried to create an ant script as well, but I feel like IntelliJ is 90% of the way there - and I just need a bit of help to figure out why I need to include jfxrt.jar, and why my Main class isn't being found (I'm guessing I need to add it to the classpath somehow?). Could anyone clue me up as to what is happening? I had a basic gui before which worked fine, but JavaFX seems to be making life complicated!

• Activity Indicator display in Table View whilst row data is being fetched

  Hi All, I am navigating from tableview1.row to a tableview2 which has a LOT of rows being fetched. Given the load time is around 3 seconds, I want the navigation to slide into tableview2 as soon as the tableview1.row is selected, and then display a UIActivityIndicatorView above tableview2 whilst the data is fetched and then rendered in its underlying table view. Note, tableview2 is actually a subview of the parent UIView (as opposed to the parent being a UITableView). I've seen this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2153653/activity-indicator-shold-be-displayed-when-navigating-from-uitableview1-to-uitabl ... which gives instructions to add the activity indicator start and stopAnimating calls around the data fetch into viewDidLoad of tableview2. Thing is, I'm not sure how the above solution could work as viewDidLoad runs and completes before tableview2 visibly slides into view. Separately, I also tried adding an activity indicator over tableview2 in IB and added the IBOutlet indicator's start/stop animating code into viewDidAppear. What happens is the data fetch runs and I can see the indicator spinning but at the end of the fetch, the table view is empty. Seems like viewDidAppear is too late to add data to the table view as cellForRowAtIndexPath etc has already fired. Can anyone please suggest any pointers? I could very well be missing something obvious here (its nearly 5am where I am and think my brain is mush). Should I re-trigger cellForRowAtIndexPath etc from viewDidAppear? Is the issue that my table view is a subview and not the parent view? Thanks

  Hey, I'm building a software for timereporting I have a Dictionary<string, Dictionary<string, double>>. The key in the main dictionary is a users name and their value is a dictionary of . I have a function GetDepartment(string UserName) which returns a string with the users department. What I want is to crate a new dictionary, of the same type, that has the department as the main key and in the subdictionary a where hours is the total for that department. I have been trying to do this with linq but did not succeed. Would be very glad for some help here! EDIT: This code does exactly what I want.   I'm trying to log into site with invalid ssl certificate and I have the following code. I bypass the the invalid cert by using my all certificate and then bypass the invalid Hostname by using hostnameverifier. • How to call SQL Function with multiple parameters from C# web page

  I have an MS SQL function that is called with the following syntax: SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) AS RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable('WHERE ClientID = 7 AND LocationName = ''Default'' ', 10) The first parameter passes a specific WHERE clause that is used by the function for one of the internal queries.   I know there are a couple of debates on this kind of thing.... At any rate, I have several cases where I need to populate combobox items based on enumerations returned from the WCF service. In an effort to keep code clean, I started this approach. After looking into it more, I don't think the this works as well is initially thought... I am throwing this out to get recommendations/advice/code snippets on how you would do this or how you currently do this. I may be forced to have a seperate, non anonymous method, procedure. I hate doing this for something like this but at the moment, don't see it working another way... This prevents this method from getting called more than one time. I suspect that the comboBox local var declared before this call, but within the same method, is not always the combobox originally intended but can't really verify that yet. • Instantiating a list of parameterized types, making beter use of Generics and Linq

  I'm hashing a file with one or more hash algorithms. When I tried to parametrize which hash types I want, it got a lot messier than I was hoping. I think I'm missing a chance to make better use of generics or LINQ.
