  • Android Device Management

    - by Jon Hopkins
I'm looking at the possibility of using Android as a secure corporate mobile platform. One of the pre-requisites for this will be a way of managing multiple devices, security policies, software deployment, that sort of thing - essentially the things the BlackBerry Enterprise Server handles for BlackBerry or MDM (or something 3rd party like SOTI) handles for Windows Mobile. Does such a thing exist for Android? It's a platform we're interested in but without this right now (and we're not in a position to build it ourselves) it's a non-starter.

  • Is there any small linux distribution which comes with a complete C devleopment environment

    - by hits_lucky
Hi, I have installed "Damn Small Linux" on my home computer for doing C development in unix. But the distribution doesn't by default come with the C development environment and I am facing some issues when trying to install the gcc. Is there any other small Linux distribution which by default has the required packages for the C development. And also I don't want additional software which takes up lot of space but still would like to have the graphical environment. Thanks

  • Delphi components you can't live without

    - by Warren P
Most Delphi developers have a list of Delphi components they wouldn't live without. Not including anything that ships with Delphi (standard VCL or included third-party software like Rave or Indy), what are the components you can't live without, be they commercial or open-source? One component or product name per answer, please. Please do not post duplicates.

  • I can't access certain subkeys in an entry in the registry

    - by shifuimam
I'm trying to get to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX\, but the only subkey being returned in C# is MachineSettings - even though there are additional subkeys, including Games and several keys named for different user SIDs. How can I access these other keys? Even a standard user account can read the content of both Games and that account's own SID (when looking in regedit)...

  • Computer Science + CFA

    - by scatman
I still have one semester to finish my MS in Computer Science, and I am already working for a software development company. I took some accounting courses as electives (accounting 1-2 and finance) and I found them interesting and easy. Is it worth it to do CFA? I don't want to change majors, i.e. I still want to be a developer, but would it help if I did CFA?

  • Source Code Browser

    - by James Fielding
Hello I'm looking for a piece of relatively simple software to browse large C++ project. What I would like is something that is somewhere between a simple text editor and a full-blown IDE like Eclipse. I would like syntax highlighting, a way to see all classes/methods defined in a file, a way to find where a particular method is called from and where a variable is declared/defined. Any ideas? Thank you!

I don't want one company working on the whole project because they can easily change a few things and sell the software to someone else. I will be using a freelenace website like elance or guru. A buddy of mine has given me this advice but he did not say how this can be done. Any ideas on how to go about this?

  • What's the purpose of the rotate instructions (ROL, RCL on x86) ?

    - by lgratian
I always wondered what's the purpose of the rotate instructions some CPUs have (ROL, RCL on x86, for example). What kind of software makes use of these instructions? I first thought they may be used for encryption/computing hash codes, but these libraries are written usually in C, which doesn't have operators that map to these instructions. Has anybody found an use for them? Why where they added to the instructions set?

    - by Armentage
I want to build a simple application that looks up words against Wiktionary to see if they exist. Is there a standard API supported by the Wiktionary software that would let me do this? Alternatively, is there any way I can pull down the dictionary data that backs a Wiktionary? There are many international variants who's data I would love to put a different front-end around.

  • Generic DRM (Distributed resource management) wrapper

    - by Pavel Bernshtam
I need to write a software, which launches DRM jobs in a customer environment and monitors those jobs status. It should work with various customer environments and DRMs - like LSF, Sun Grid and others. Can you recommend some 3rd party library, which hides DRM differences from me and has API like "launch job", "get list of jobs", "get job status" etc. ? Both Java and native libraries are good for me.

  • Should I create a new extension for an xml file?

    - by macleojw
I'm working with a data model stored in XML files. I want to create some metadata for the model and store it alongside, but would like to be able to distinguish between the two. The data model is imported into some software from time to time and we don't want it to try to import the meta data files. To get round this, I've been thinking of creating a new extension for the metadata xml files (say .mdml). Is this good practice?
