• Juju didn't configure rabbitmq for openstack?

  I have installed ubuntu Openstack HA with juju with all 24 servers. But my openstack is not working at all. On dashboard on every page I get errors saying "could not retrieve usage information", "could not retrieve volume information, "could not retrieve .....etc I spent hours and have discovered that juju has not done configuration correctly. I found that on cloud controller in nova.conf juju has added rabitmq vhost enrty, but that virtual host is not added in rabbitmq. Then how is its suppose to work? And on juju-gui canvas rabbimq is all green and is working fine, which in reality its not. I am really wondering if juju has really done correct configuration in all 24 servers now, I am getting the feeling that it would have been faster if I would have done openstack deployment manually instead of using juju. Why was the virtual host entry not added in rabbitmq? How should I solve this?

• Dictionary as DataMember in WCF after installing .NET 4.5 [migrated]

  After installing .NET Framework 4.5 with Visual Studio 2012, whenever I want to obtain the reference from a WCF service, my dictionaries are changed into arrays. For example, Dictionary<int, double> is changed into ArrayOfKeyValueOfintdoubleKeyValueOfintdouble. This happens in both Visual Studio 2012 and 2010 (both Express). I've reviewed my configuration and the dictionary data type in the service reference configuration is System.Collection.Generic.Dictionary. Changing this doesn't make a difference. Reverting to just using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0 is not an option.

• GNOME lock screen (screensaver) is missing music controls

  I have a custom Ubuntu 12.10 configuration (started out as a minimal installation of Ubuntu 12.04 with a number of other packages such as Gnome Shell selectively installed via apt-get and then upgraded to 12.10). (Almost) everything works just fine. However, the lock screen (Gnome screensaver) does not expose a UI to control music playback. Whenever I have Rhythmbox running in the background I cannot pause music playback without unlocking the screen. Obviously some package(s) or configuration bits are not present but I am not able to figure out what needs to be added or done in order to enable playback control in the lock screen. Any idea what I might be missing? Ideally I would not like to install Ubuntu desktop only to get music controls in the Gnome lock screen.

• Configure IPv6 on your Linux system (Ubuntu)

  After the presentation on IPv6 at the first event of the Emtel Knowledge Series and some recent discussion on social media networks with other geeks and Linux interested IT people here in Mauritius, I thought that I should give it a try (finally) and tweak my local network infrastructure. Honestly, I have been to busy with contractual project work and it never really occurred to me to set up IPv6 in my LAN. Well, the following paragraphs are going to shed some light on those aspects of modern computer and network technology. This is the first article in a series on IPv6 configuration: Configure IPv6 on your Linux system DHCPv6: Provide IPv6 information in your local network Enabling DNS for IPv6 infrastructure Accessing your web server via IPv6 Piece of advice: This is based on my findings on the internet while reading other people's helpful articles and going through a couple of man-pages on my local system. Let's embrace IPv6 The basic configuration on Linux is actually very simple as the kernel, operating system, and user-space programs support that protocol natively. If your system is ready to go for IP (aka: IPv4), then you are good to go for anything else. At least, I didn't have to install any additional packages on my system(s). We are going to assign a static IPv6 address to the system. Hence, we have to modify the definition of interfaces and check whether we have an inet6 entry specified. Open your favourite text editor and check the following entries (it should be at least similar to this): $ sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces auto eth0# IPv4 configurationiface eth0 inet static  address 192.168.1.2  network 192.168.1.0  netmask 255.255.255.0  broadcast 192.168.1.255# IPv6 configurationiface eth0 inet6 static  pre-up modprobe ipv6  address 2001:db8:bad:a55::2  netmask 64 Of course, you might have to adjust your interface device (eth0) or you might be interested to have multiple directives for additional devices (eth1, eth2, etc.). The auto instruction takes care that your device is enabled and configured during the booting phase. The use of the pre-up directive depends on your kernel configuration but in most scenarios this might be an optional line. Anyways, it doesn't hurt to have it enabled after all - just to be on the safe side. Next, either restart your network subsystem like so: $ sudo service networking restart Or you might prefer to do it manually with identical parameters, like so: $ sudo ifconfig eth0 inet6 add 2001:db8:bad:a55::2/64 In case that you're logged in remotely into your PC (ie. via ssh), it is highly advised to opt for the second choice and add the device manually. You can check your configuration afterwards with one of the following commands (depends on whether it is installed): $ sudo ifconfig eth0eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:21:5a:50:d7:94            inet addr:192.168.160.2  Bcast:192.168.160.255  Mask:255.255.255.0          inet6 addr: fe80::221:5aff:fe50:d794/64 Scope:Link          inet6 addr: 2001:db8:bad:a55::2/64 Scope:Global          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1 $ sudo ip -6 address show eth03: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qlen 1000    inet6 2001:db8:bad:a55::2/64 scope global        valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever    inet6 fe80::221:5aff:fe50:d794/64 scope link        valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever In both cases, it confirms that our network device has been assigned a valid IPv6 address. That's it in general for your setup on one system. But of course, you might be interested to enable more services for IPv6, especially if you're already running a couple of them in your IP network. • What package do I need to build a Qt 5 & CMake application?

  I'm trying to build sdrangelove, which wants Qt 5 and uses CMake for its build system, on Ubuntu 13.10. What package do I need to install to give it the file it's asking for here? There are a lot of *qt5* packages, and I've tried installing the promising looking ones to no effect. All the discussions I've found either have things working fine or are talking about writing CMake build rules rather than executing them. I don't have a lot of experience with the organization of Debian/Ubuntu packaging. CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:14 (find_package): By not providing "FindQt5Core.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5Core", but CMake did not find one. Could not find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5Core" (requested version 5.0) with any of the following names: Qt5CoreConfig.cmake qt5core-config.cmake Add the installation prefix of "Qt5Core" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "Qt5Core_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. If "Qt5Core" provides a separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been installed.

• Ubuntu One Windows Client 3.0.1 - Sync not connecting

  I've got sync working at home on Natty and I need to access files at work. I've just installed client 3.0.1 at work on Windows 7. It's finding my account and sees what devices are already set up for sync but it just repeatedly tries to sync (File sync starting...) and after a while fails (File Sync is disconnected.). This cycle loops endlessly. I'm suspicious that it's a problem with my proxy setup. My employer doesn't use a manual proxy configuration but instead uses an automatic configuration script at a specific http address. Does U1 recognize that kind of setup or is it only looking for a proxy server in the form of an address/port?

• DI/IoC in Java for a .NET'er used to Castle.Windsor

  Is there a Java DI container that works in a similar way to the most excellent Castle.Windsor container on the .NET side? The Java containers I've had a look at all seem to rely on annotations (Guice) within my services, which I don't dig all that much - I'd like to go POJO all the way if possible. Spring on the other hand can do without the annotations, but it requires a lot of XML. XML configuration != maintainability. One of the really nice things about Castle.Windsor is the wiring you're able to set up in code with Installers, auto wiring based on naming conventions and whatnot. Ideally the container should also support lifecycle management and configuration; i.e. registering components as transient, singleton, pooled etc. Another bonus would be support for interceptors. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

• How do I ban a wifi network in Network Manager?

  My wifi connection drops sometimes and, for some reason, Network Manager attempts to connect to my neighbor's network, which requires a password that I don't know. The network in question is not listed in the "Edit Connections..." dialog and I can find no reference to it in any configuration file, but still the password dialog pops up every time my main connection drops. Is there a way to blacklist a wireless network so that the Network Manager will never attempt to connect to it? Or, equivalently, how can I remove the configuration data that causes the Network Manager to attempt to connect to this particular network?

I have edited the configuration file at /etc/default/jetty and set: # change to 0 to allow Jetty start NO_START=0 # Listen to connections from this network host # Use 0.0.0.0 as host to accept all connections. JETTY_HOST=0.0.0.0 Now I can reach the Jetty webserver at http://192.168.1.10:8080 but I would like to have Jetty listening on port 80. I have tried this setting in the same configuration file: # The network port used by Jetty JETTY_PORT=80 and then restart Jetty with sudo service jetty restart but it doesn't work. How can I change so that the Jetty webserver is listening on port 80?

  I was trying to install Amarok 1.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 (Gnome-classic), by following this instructions. Problem started after giving these two commands dpkg -i kdelibs5-data_4.6.2-0ubuntu4_all.deb dpkg -i kdelibs-data_3.5.10.dfsg.1-5ubuntu2_all.deb Now, immediately after these commands, Ubuntu Updater popped up and gave me an error that the package catalog is broken and needs to be repaired. Nothing can be installed or removed till then. It also offered a suggestion to run apt-get install -f. I tried that, but again got the same error.Also tried apt-get clean followed by apt-get install -f. Incidentally, I had first upgraded from 10.04 and had succesfully installed Amarok 1.4 following this same method. But due to other issues, i had to format and do a clean install of 12.04. Now when I tried to install Amarok 1.4, I'm getting these errors. I also have digiKam and k3b installed, if that can be of any help. I use digiKam a lot, so removing KDE is not feasible for me. Any help on this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Apache2 rewrite without htaccess

  Reading up on doing url rewrites in Apache2, I found this: "In general, you should never use .htaccess files unless you don't have access to the main server configuration file. Okay, great. But there is no information anywhere about how to do it in the server configuration file. So before I mess stuff up, can I safely use the same rewrite directives, like <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^test/(\w+)$ test.php?n=$1 [L] </IfModule> in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf? /etc/apache2/httpd.conf is blank, but I suppose I could do it there too? Another question, should the rewrite rule paths be prefixed with /var/www/ or can I do it relative to the site root? Thanks.

• Simple Project Templates

  The NetBeans sources include a module named "simple.project.templates": In the module sources, Tim Boudreau turns out to be the author of the code, so I asked him what it was all about, and if he could provide some usage code. His response, from approximately this time last year because it's been sitting in my inbox for a while, is below. Sure - though I think the javadoc in it is fairly complete.  I wrote it because I needed to create a bunch of project templates for Javacard, and all of the ways that is usually done were grotesque and complicated.  I figured we already have the ability to create files from templates, and we already have the ability to do substitutions in templates, so why not have a single file that defines the project as a list of file templates to create (with substitutions in the names) and some definitions of what should be in project properties. You can also add files to the project programmatically if you want.Basically, a template for an entire project is a .properties file.  Any line which doesn't have the prefix 'pp.' or 'pvp.' is treated as the definition of one file which should be created in the new project.  Any such line where the key ends in * means that file should be opened once the new project is created.  So, for example, in the nodejs module, the definition looks like: {{projectName}}.js*=Templates/javascript/HelloWorld.js .npmignore=node_hidden_templates/npmignore So, the first line means:  - Create a file with the same name as the project, using the HelloWorld template    - I.e. the left side of the line is the relative path of the file to create, and the right side is the path in the system filesystem for the template to use       - If the template is not one you normally want users to see, just register it in the system filesystem somewhere other than Templates/ (but remember to set the attribute that marks it as a template)  - Include that file in the set of files which should be opened in the editor once the new project is created. To actually create a project, first you just create a new ProjectCreator: ProjectCreator gen = new ProjectCreator( parentFolderOfNewProject ); Now, if you want to programmatically generate any files, in addition to those defined in the template, you can: gen.add (new FileCreator("nbproject", "project.xml", false) {     public DataObject create (FileObject project, Map<String,String> substitutions) throws IOException {          ...     } }); Then pass the FileObject for the project template (the properties file) to the ProjectCreator's createProject method (hmm, maybe it should be the string path to the project template instead, to save the caller trouble looking up the FileObject for the template).  That method looks like this: public final GeneratedProject createProject(final ProgressHandle handle, final String name, final FileObject template, final Map<String, String> substitutions) throws IOException { The name parameter should be the directory name for the new project;  the map is the strings you gathered in the wizard which should be used for substitutions.  createProject should be called on a background thread (i.e. use a ProgressInstantiatingIterator for the wizard iterator and just pass in the ProgressHandle you are given). The return value is a GeneratedProject object, which is just a holder for the created project directory and the set of DataObjects which should be opened when the wizard finishes. I'd love to see simple.project.templates moved out of the javacard cluster, as it is really useful and much simpler than any of the stuff currently done for generating projects.  It would also be possible to do much richer tools for creating projects in apisupport - i.e. choose (or create in the wizard) the templates you want to use, generate a skeleton wizard with a UI for all the properties you'd like to substitute, etc. Here is a partial project template from Javacard - for example usage, see org.netbeans.modules.javacard.wizard.ProjectWizardIterator in javacard.project (or the much simpler one in contrib/nodejs). #This properties file describes what to create when a project template is#instantiated.  The keys are paths on disk relative to the project root. #The values are paths to the templates to use for those files in the system#filesystem.  Any string inside {{ and }}'s will be substituted using properties#gathered in the template wizard.#Special key prefixes are #  pp. - indicates an entry for nbproject/project.properties#  pvp. - indicates an entry for nbproject/private/private.properties #File templates, in format [path-in-project=path-to-template]META-INF/javacard.xml=org-netbeans-modules-javacard/templates/javacard.xmlMETA-INF/MANIFEST.MF=org-netbeans-modules-javacard/templates/EAP_MANIFEST.MF APPLET-INF/applet.xml=org-netbeans-modules-javacard/templates/applet.xmlscripts/{{classnamelowercase}}.scr=org-netbeans-modules-javacard/templates/test.scrsrc/{{packagepath}}/{{classname}}.java*=Templates/javacard/ExtendedApplet.java nbproject/deployment.xml=org-netbeans-modules-javacard/templates/deployment.xml#project.properties contentspp.display.name={{projectname}}pp.platform.active={{activeplatform}} pp.active.device={{activedevice}}pp.includes=**pp.excludes= I will be using the above info in an upcoming blog entry and provide step by step instructions showing how to use them.   Agile developmentAgile development has become the standard methodology for application development. The days of long term planning with giant Gantt waterfall charts and detailed requirements is fading away. For years the product planning process frustrated product owners and businesses because no matter the plan, nothing ever went to plan. Agile development throws the detailed planning out the window and instead focuses on giving developers some basic requirements and pointing them in the right direction. Constant collaboration via quick iterations with the end users, product owners, and the development team helps ensure the project is done correctly.  The various agile development methodologies have helped greatly with creating products faster, but not without causing new problems. Complicated application deployments now occur weekly or monthly. Most of the products are web-based and deployed as a software service model. System performance and availability of these apps becomes mission critical. This is all much different from the old process of mailing new releases of client-server apps on CD once per quarter or year.The steady stream of new products and product enhancements puts a lot of pressure on IT operations to keep up with the software deployments and adding infrastructure capacity. The problem is most operations teams still move slowly thanks to change orders, documentation, procedures, testing and other processes. Operations can slow the process down and push back on the development team in some organizations. The DevOps movement is trying to solve some of these problems by integrating the development and operations teams more together. Rapid change introduces new problemsThe rapid product change ultimately creates some application problems along the way. Higher rates of change increase the likelihood of new application defects. Delivering applications as a software service also means that scalability of applications is critical. Development teams struggle to keep up with application defects and scalability concerns in their applications. Fixing application problems is a never ending job for agile development teams. Fixing problems before your customers do and fixing them quickly is critical. Most companies really struggle with this due to the divide between the development and operations groups. These key employees’ time is best spent on strategic new projects, not addressing application defects. • The Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.04 Dual Boot NIghtmare

  I have done some research as to how to go about this dual-boot, and I am close, but I need some guidance with booting into Windows 8 (Ubuntu is installed). I have a Lenovo Ideapad y510p. I will go over what I have done to dual-boot this laptop, with windows 8 pre-installed, with Ubuntu 12.04: I followed every instruction to the letter for the 97-vote response here, and everything worked fine up until after the repair boot section: Installing on a Pre-Installed Windows 8 System (UEFI Supported) I ran into the following error upon restarting after the repair boot section: error: invalid arch independent elf magic. This error (a grub issue) disabled me from booting into Ubuntu :( After a little googling, I followed the instructions in the reactivating grub 2 section to resolve the error: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1686 I found a possible solution to fixing the Windows 8 boot issue, and tried it: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:i9JMyXzzRpYJ:askubuntu.com/questions/279275/dual-boot-problem-windows-8-ubuntu-12-04+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=ubuntu I thought the above solution worked, but when I attempt to boot into Windows 8, I get the following missing file error: File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000e Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors. Here is some other information that may be useful: I have 3 partitions devoted to Ubuntu. The first, sda8, has a flag bios_grub (1049 kb). The second, sda9, is where everything else is (96.6 GB). The last, sda10, is for swap (8299 MB). My question is: How do I fix the boot configuration for Windows 8? Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Update 1: When I attempt to boot into UEFI mode, I get the following error: invalid arch independent elf magic (the same error I saw in step 2). Update 2: A useful link here I found: Dual booting Ubuntu 12.04: UEFI and Legacy So, this is my 4th time installing Ubuntu on the laptop, and it looks like I need to install it in UEFI mode. Should I scrap it all again, and reinstall? Or is there ANY way of salvaging my installation? At this point, I can't even boot into Windows (although I have an installation cd to fix the windows boot issue, that would ultimately screw over ubuntu). Update 3: After doing a little more browsing around, I found a cool way around this messy grub stuff, using rEFInd. Rod Smith's post here saved me! Installing ubuntu 12.04.02 in uefi mode Now, I am able to dual-boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu and boot into both operating systems :) I have another issue (relating to the boot configuration in the bios) that I will post as a separate question :)

• Wine installation on 12.04 LTS

  Installed wine from the Software Center and kept getting errors when trying to load windows programs. Uninstalled and did the apt-get installation of the latest version (1.5.7) Ran Wine configuration and get a "Failed to connect to the mount manager, the drive configuration cannot be edited" If i try to install a program it immediately goes to "Internal error" Any Ideas or possible solutions would be appreciated.   I have the following configuration, A host running Windows 7; A guest running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (VirtualBox); I am connecting a Cisco router directly to my PC running Windows 7 and testing the router for netflow packets in the virtualBox I am having a difficulty capturing the traffic of the netflow from the Cisco device in my virtualBox using port 2222. I tried to use the many different networking modes provided by virutalBox (i.e. NAT, Bridged Adapter, Host only adapter) but I am not successful in capturing the netflow traffic. Could you please advise me on the configuration setup that need to be done on the virtual box to allow capturing the traffic coming from the router. I successfully capture the netflow traffic on my PC (windows 7). Thank you

  I'm trying to setup Spring dev environment (jenkins, tomcat) on Vagrant. What I really want to achieve is to limit config to only Puppet scripts, so I can share it with my colleagues and work together on the same environment. So far I managed to set up simple scripts to install jenkins, tomcat and so on, they work fine. What about jenkins configuration though? I'm pretty green in jenkins usage and configuration, not sure if I'm doing it the right way... I found this article and I want to migrate whole setup described in it to Puppet. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Suggestions for connecting .NET WPF GUI with Java SE Server

  BACKGROUND We are building a Java (SE) trading application which will be monitoring market data and sending trade messages based on the market data, and also on user defined configuration parameters. We are planning to provide the user with a thin client, built in .NET (WPF) for managing the parameters, controlling the server behavior, and viewing the current state of the trading. The client doesn't need real-time updates; it will instead update the view once every few seconds (or whatever interval is configured by the user). The client has about 6 different operations it needs to perform with the server, for example: CRUD with configuration parameters query subset of the data receive updates of current positions from server It is possible that most of the different operations (except for receiving data) are just different flavors of managing the configuration parameters, but it's too early in our analysis for us to be sure. To connect the client with the server, we have been considering using: SOAP Web Service RESTful service building a custom TCP/IP based API (text or xml) (least preferred - but we use this approach with other applications we have) As best as I understand, pros and cons of the different web service flavors are: SOAP pro: totally automated in .NET (and Java), modifying server side interface require no code changes in communication layer, just running refresh on Web Service reference to regenerate the classes. con: more overhead in the communication layer sending more text, etc. We're not using J2EE container so maybe doesn't work so well with J2SE REST pro: lighter weight, less data. Has good .NET and Java support. (I don't have any real experience with this, so don't know what other benefits it has.) con: client will not be automatically aware if there are any new operations or properties added (?), so communication layer needs to be updated by developer if server interface changes. con: (both approaches) Server cannot really push updates to the client at regular intervals (?) (However, we won't mind if client polls the server to get updates.) QUESTION What are your opinions on the above options or suggestions for other ways to connect the 2 parts? (Ideally, we don't want to put much work into the communication layer, because it's not the significant part of the application so the more off-the-shelf and automated the better.)

• Changes to File Store Provider in UCM PS3

  In the recent PS3 release of UCM (11.1.1.4.0) there are some significant changes to the File Store Provider (FSP) configuration. For new PS3 installs (not upgrades from PS2) the FSP default storage rule includes a dispersion rule that will change the web-layout and vault paths by adding dispersion directories to the paths to limit the number of files in the vault and web-layout directories. What that means is that if you install a new PS3 UCM instance and migrate content in from a previous version of UCM the web URL will change. That is a critical problem for web sites and just general document management.
