• Fake ISAPI Handler to serve static files with extention that are rewritted by url rewriter

  Introduction I often map html extention to the asp.net dll in order to use url rewritter with .html extentions. Recently, in the new version of www.nouvelair.ca, we renamed all urls to end with .html. This works great, but failed when we used FCK Editor. Static html files would not get serve because we mapped the html extension to the .NET Framework. We can we do to to use .html extension with our rewritter but still want to use IIS behavior with static html files. Analysis I thought that this could be resolve with a simple HTTP handler. We would map urls of static files in our rewriter to this handler that would read the static file and serve it, just as IIS would do. Implementation This is how I coded the class. Note that this may not be bullet proof. I only tested it once and I am sure that the logic behind IIS is more complicated that this. If you find errors or think of possible improvements, let me know.   When i create a website/virtual directory pointing to UNC path, its make our file copy extremely slow on the UNC path. 6 seconds for file copy (~13 M) on the UNC path without any virtual directory/website pointing to it. over 1 mins. for file copy (same files ~13M) on the same UNC path with virtual directory/website pointing to it. All file copy operation run on web server side. Our setting as below: Web server - Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5 File server - Windows Server standard 2003 I have tested this case on 3 servers (Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5) and got same result. I also tested this case on 2 windows 2003 / IIS 6, it won't slow down the file copy. Is it IIS 7.5 bug? any patch/hotfix to solve this case? Thank you. Gordon

As of now, when I open Sublime Text 2 for the first time, create a file and try to save it, the file location option defaults to: C:\Windows\System32 I would like to set the default save file location to my Desktop so that everytime I want to save a file, the File windows opens the Desktop view. • Why can't PHP script write a file on server 2008 via command line or task scheduler?

  I have a PHP script. It runs well when I use a browser. It writes an XML file in the same directory. The script takes ~60 seconds to run, and the resulting XML file is ~16 MB. I am running PHP 5.2.13 via FastCGI on Server 2008 64 bit. I created a task in task scheduler to run c:\php5\php.exe "D:\inetpub\tools\something.php" No error returned, but no file created. If I run this same path and argument at a command line it does not error and does not create the file. I am doing a simple fopen fwrite fclose to save the contents of a php variable to a .xml file, and the file only gets created when the script is run through the browser. Thanks

I want to keep the ownership and permission setting of NTFS files, then want to let the new user take the old user's SID, so that I can access files as before without permission problem. The cacls command line tool can't be used in such situation, because the file does belongs to new user, so it will failed with Access is denied error. and it can't change ownership. Even if I can change the owership via SubInACL tool, cacls can't remove the old user's permission because the old user does not exist on new installation, and can't copy the old user's permission to new user. So, can we simply bind old user's SID to new user on the freshly installed Windows ? • How can I keep a file in Windows 7's cache?

  Sometimes you know better than Windows what files will be re-used later. Suppose you have 8GB of memory, and you use the same 1GB file every hour in an I/O-bound application (which takes 1 second to finish if the file is cached, and 1 minute if not.) Now you process some other 16GB of data that are not going to be re-used. Naturally the frequently used 1GB file will be pushed out of the cache. It would be beneficial if one can tell Windows to keep that 1GB file in memory. (Better yet, it would be great if I can tell Windows not to cache those 16GB of data, but I'm not optimistic that this can be done.) The poor-man's way to keep a file in the cache would be to keep reading the file. Are there any better ways? Are you aware of any programs that do this? (If this can be easily done under Linux, please let me know too.)

  We have a virtual dedicated server with a fairly large amount of traffic. We use GoDaddy using CPanel. We have 10GIG of space of which about 80% is not our content but logs and server utilities. Godaddy support is evasive and they are trying to encourage us to migrate to new service with 15GIG. Reviewing the large files we found the following: We have a ton old TMP files at this directory. /public_html/files/TMP/FILE_PERSISTANCE_PROVIDER: (no access) some large files in these directories. /usr/local/apache/logs/ - suphp_log (220M) - access_log (7M) - error_log (5M) /usr/local/apache/domlogs/ (no access) /usr/local/cpanel/ (no access) /usr/local/cpanel-rollback /tmp Questions: What can we safely delete or truncate?   I tried writing a "perfect" backup program (below), but ran into problems (also below). Is there an efficient/working version of this?: Assumptions: you're backing up from 'local', which you own and has limited disk space to 'remote', which has infinite disk space and belongs to someone else, so you need encryption. Network bandwidth is finite. 'local' keeps a db of backed-up files w/ this data for each file: filename, including full path file's last modified time (mtime) sha1sum of file's unencrypted contents sha1sum of file's encrypted contents Given a list of files to backup (some perhaps already backed up), the program runs 'find' and gets the full path/mtime for each file (this is fairly efficient; conversely, computing the sha1sum of each file would NOT be efficient) The program discards files whose filename and mtime are in 'local' db. The program now computes the sha1sum of the (unencrypted contents of each remaining file. If the sha1sum matches one in 'local' db, we create a special entry in 'local' db that points this file/mtime to the file/mtime of the existing entry. Effectively, we're saying "we have a backup of this file's contents, but under another filename, so no need to back it up again". For each remaining file, we encrypt the file, take the sha1sum of the encrypted file's contents, rsync the file to its sha1sum. Example: if the file's encrypted sha1sum was da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709, we'd rsync it to /some/path/da/39/a3/da39a3ee5e6b4b0d3255bfef95601890afd80709 on 'remote'. Once the step above succeeds, we add the file to the 'local' db. Note that we efficiently avoid computing sha1sums and encrypting unless absolutely necessary. Note: I don't specify encryption method: this would be user's choice. The problems: We must encrypt and backup 'local' db regularly. However, 'local' db grows quickly and rsync'ing encrypted files is inefficient, since a small change in 'local' db means a big change in the encrypted version of 'local' db. We create a file on 'remote' for each file on 'local', which is ugly and excessive. We query 'local' db frequently. Even w/ indexes, these queries are slow, since we're often making one query for each file. Would be nice to speed this up by batching queries or something. Probably other problems that I've now forgotten.

• OMG. Is Webmin safe? I can see file codes in Chrome browser without login

  When Im in File Manager of Webmin, I can double click and see the codes of the files in new tab in Firefox with its specific URL. But when I remove ?rand=xxxx... after the file.php and paste the URL in Chrome browser, I still can see the codes. This is the URL I just pasted in the Chrome browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/file/show.cgi/var/www/html/mysite.com/files/file.php And then, I logout of webmin, and I change the file.php with other file, I can see the codes. OMG. Is Webmin safe? and how to secure this?

• Can I make Puppet's module-to-file mapping to start searching at the top of the modules tree?

  Consider these two Puppet module files: # File modules/a/manifests/b/c.pp class a::b::c { include b::c } # File modules/b/manifests/c.pp class b::c { notify { "In b::c": } } It seems that when Puppet hits the include b::c directive in class a::b::c, it searches for the corresponding *.pp file by looking backwards from the current class and decides that it find the correct file located at ../../b/c.pp. In other words, it resolves b::c to the same *.pp file that the include b::c statement appears in: modules/a/manifests/b/c.pp I expected it (and would like it) to instead find and load the file modules/b/manifests/c.pp. Is there a way to make Puppet do this? If not, it seems to me that module names may not contain any other module names anywhere within them, which is a pretty surprising restriction.

• My powershell script wont save a file when run using Task Scheduler, do I need to specify a specific argument?

  I have a script that downloads a temporary Excel file, copies parts of it to a new file, and saves it to a specific location on the network. The problem I'm having is that the new file is never created/saved. If I run the script locally (through cmd.exe, powershell, or powershell ise), it WILL save the file locally, or to the network. If I try running the script via a schedule or on-demand via Task Scheduler, the temporary file is created, but the final document is never created or saved. Is there a specific argument I need to pass, or anything I could be doing wrong? This is the command I'm currently using: powershell.exe -file C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\thescript.ps1 Since it calls environment variables, and other variables relative to the scripts positon, I also set "Start in" to C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\

• Root cause for high CPU usage; which measurement to trust more: Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer?

  Consider this Windows 8.1 machine (in-place upgrade from Windows 8) with differing reports on its CPU usage. The machine is idle, and has been for 3 days. There are no CPU intensive tasks running currently nor over the 3 day idle period. Windows Task Manager is reporting CPU usage constantly at an incredibly high value (and increasing over time!) at around 75%. Process Explorer from SysInternals reports that the CPU usage is much different at around 42% How does Process Explorer report 42.14% usage, but its columns report Idle at 57%, with the sum of the other processes not even approaching 10%? Which of these two values should I trust more, and why should it be trusted over the other measurement? How can I actually determine which process is causing Task Manager to report its values?   I have a torrent that contains many files in it, but I don't want to download all of them because I need only few files among them. I am not downloading from a torrent client, but I am actually using put.io service that converts torrents into direct downloads for me. I want to edit the .torrent file (or magnet link) in such a way that I get only those files which I need from the torrent. I tried by editing with text editors, but I am getting some crazy hash errors when I did that. I have seen people editing trackers in a torrent file (using online editors and other editors), but none of them edited the list of files in the torrent file. So, the question is: How to edit a .torrent file (and save it back as another .torrent file) such that when you run that torrent file, it only downloads only those files you need?

• How do I split a large MySql backup file into multiple files?

  I have a 250 MB backup SQL file but the limit on the new hosting is only 100 MB ... Is there a program that let's you split an SQL file into multiple SQL files? It seems like people are answering the wrong question ... so I will clarify more: I ONLY have the 250 MB file and only have the new hosting using phpMyAdmin which currently has no data in the database. I need to take the 250 MB file and upload it to the new host but there is a 100 MB SQL backup file upload size limit. I simply need to take one file that is too large and split it out into multiple files each containing only full valid SQL statements (no statements can be split between two files).

• Loop through values and display in a pdf file
