• How can I allow a user to stream my videos securely?

  I've got a script that records 10 minute videos from a webcam to video1.mp4 video2.mp4 video3.mp4 video4.mp4 Then records over video1 again in rotation. I'd like one user to be able to view these in winamp or itunes by having a playlist with the four of them on repeat. (This is my way of getting around the many hours of figuring out how to actually livestream from a webcam with VLC). I don't see any examples of things like icecast being used for video, and I don't see any mentions of secure streaming. My question is, is there any way to have these videos be seen securely? I can do things like https on my server, but I don't have great access to the user's machine, so just sharing a directory by samba or sshfs isn't much of an option.

• How can I have only two specific keyboard layouts in my system without 'us'?

  I want only two keyboard layouts in my system: us altgr-intl (USA International (AltGr dead keys) ) and gr (Greece), so this is what I've selected in System ? Preferences ? Keyboard ? Layouts. However, every time I begin a new Gnome session (reboot, logout/login), the us keyboard layout is automatically inserted at the top of the list. I created a small script called fixlang that ensures the desirable result: layouts='[us altgr-intl,gr]' # tab between us and altgr key=/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts active_layouts="$(gconftool -g $key)" if [ "$active_layouts" != "$layouts" -o "$1" == -f ] then gconftool -t l --list-type=str -s $key "$layouts" fi which I run on login. However, this is a kludge. How can I ensure that Gnome does not mess with my keyboard layout selection?

• How to reboot into Windows from Ubuntu?

  I'm looking for a way to reboot into Windows from Ubuntu on a 10.10/Vista dual boot system. The specific use case is that I would like to be able to ssh into my running Ubuntu instance and issue a command that will initiate a reboot directly into Windows. • Limit the size of a directory by deleting old files

  I have a IP cam which save its recordings in a specific directory named Camera1 in my Ubuntu Server 12.04. I would like to limit the size of this folder to 5 gigs, by deleting -say once a day- the oldest files. I first checked the quota program but it doesn't seem to allow the creation of new files and deleting of the old ones. So I think the best workaround would be to run a bash script ? But I have no idea how to write it... Thank you guys !

• Configuring Dropbox on Ubuntu server

  I've got a Ubuntu server running on an old laptop. The OS is on a 4GB USB drive and I use a SATA drive attached for storage. Now I wanted to set up Dropbox on this machine. I've got it running using this guide: http://www.byteindia.com/internet/install-dropbox-on-linux/482/. But I haven't synched yet because there won't be enough room in my home dir. My /home is on my 4GB USB since I never use it and all my data is on the 2TB drive mounted in /media/. What is the best way to set this up? Dropbox doesn't support moving the folder in Linux yet. I found a script to move the folder but it seems outdated. Perhaps I can use symlinks in some clever way? Or maybe move my /home folder to my SATA drive? Thanks in advance

• How can I get my meshes to work with Bullet Physics?

  The problem is that I'm trying to use my meshes with Bullet Physics for the collision part of my game. When I attempted doing this method with my GLM(model loading library by nate robins) model, I get a segmentation fault in the debug, so I figured that it doesnt like the coordinate variables of the model. If i use blender to export my model as a collision file, what type of file should I use? I have heard of a .bullet exporter, but i dont know hot to integrate this python script into my Blender 2.5 program.

• Alexa indexing browsing history?

  We have this test.php sitting around in a forgotten folder. It is a script which just sends an email to our site admin. We never had a page linking to it. It is not indexed by Google. It does not exist in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. But every now and then it gets crawled by ia_archiver. I wonder how it got indexed. Could it be because of the Alexa toolbar installed on our computer? Does Alexa index our personal browsing history?

  On current Ubuntu (10.04) suspend-on-lid/Fn+F4 only works if some powermanagement-applet of KDE/gnome is running. But what about suspend-to-lid if you are working on the console or using a non-bloated window-manager? What is the current mechanism to configure suspend-on-lid system wide? What of hald/udev/acpid/foo-kit/random-thing is the right place to hook this feature in? • Is there any good reason I would want my website to be framed?

  I'm building a website that's not security-critical in any way at all, so having somebody put a page in an <iframe> is not particularly dangerous to its users. However, as my website doesn't have script plugins that will be used anywhere else, is there any reason why I shouldn't just apply: X-Frame-Options: Deny to every page on my website? Is there any valid reason for any other website to embed mine? I've seen plenty of content-stealing ones and attempts to hijack user accounts, but never an actual good usage of frames that's not an explicit feature of the website.

• WebFX: Running JavaFX as web page

  This weekend I wanted to learn JavaFX, so I decided to code an idea I had a few years ago when I first saw JavaFX Script. So I started coding a web browser that runs HTML with the awesome, HTML5 supported WebView. But this browser also offers one extra feature: it loads FXML files as if they were HTML. So instead of defining your web page with HTML and running with WebKit, you can define a web page with FXML+CSS+JS and run as a JavaFX application. The project is called WebFX and already has a prototype on GitHub. I also uploaded a video on YouTube demonstrating the idea. • SSMS Tools Pack 1.9.4 is out! Now with SQL Server 2011 (Denali) CTP1 support.

  To end the year on a good note this release adds support for SQL Server 2011 (Denali) CTP1 and fixes a few bugs. Because of the new SSMS shell in SQL 2011 CTP1 the SSMS Tools Pack 1.9.4 doesn't have regions and debug sections functionality for now. The fixed bugs are: A bug that prevented to create insert statements for a database A bug that didn't script commas as decimal points correctly for non US settings. A bug with searching through grid results. A threading bug that sometimes happened when saving Window Content History. A bug with Window Connection Coloring throwing an error on startup if a server colors was undefined. A bug with changing shortcuts in SSMS for various features.   In linux everything is considered as file, Now if I want to find only folders/directories not the files then how can i do that? I am getting all the modified files with the following command. find /Users/ghanshyam -type f -mmin -5 -print My goal is to generate the log file with all the modified/access folders. Here two options are available. create a module and call every time when a folder is modified (this one is bit difficult because I need to check particular event) create a cron task that will run after every 5 minutes. cron task will execute shell script and generate the log entries with the modified folders. Do you have any other option to do this task ?

  Recently, I read that Facebook ads are moving towards retargeting and got interested deeper into subject. Essentially, retargeting is technique advertisers use that tracks purchase intent by putting cookies into your browser and when you visit another website within ad network you will see ad for item you "wanted to buy". In order this to for, both publisher and advertiser need to work together. Publisher needs add couple of lines of javascript and publisher need to be able to read this info across sites. In most cases, javascript inserts iframe from adnetwork domain. Iframe script sets cookies for both host domain and remote adnetwork domain. However, Same Origin policy do not let iframes read/set content from parent domain. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone explain how this technique actually works?

• Quickly Application making it run on startup

  I have a PyGtk application that I made using Quickly, and I would like to have it run on startup when installed. How would I go about doing this? I'm not sure if sticking the .desktop file in ~/.config/autostart/ would make it work or not. If that will fix it, I don't know how to add it to that folder since Quickly packages the project for you and has it's own installation script. Is it possible to modify what it does on installation? If possible, I would also like to add the program in the System Settings Personal tab, but I do not know how to do that. Thanks

• Automatically move Xubuntu panel to external monitor

  I am using xubuntu 13.04 with a dualmonitor setup. (external monitor as primary, laptop als secondary) I am using xandr to makeup my monitorsetup. However I recognized that the xubuntu panel on the top by default will always be placed on the laptop monitor. I know that i can move the panel via the panel preferences. This works. But i want to somehow either let it move automatically to the right monitor (the primary one) or to move it with a terminal command (so i can create a script which takes care of moving the panel to the primary monitor)... any ideas?

• How to I prevent decimal truncation in Word 2003 when a document is auto populated via a Web Service

  I have a document template which is being auto populated via an external web service. The incoming data exists as a currency (e.g. 3.10) but when it is passed into the Word Document template the variable is truncated to remove any trailing 0's. I need the number to always appear with 2 decimals, even if they are both 0's. This is with the 2003 version of Word, I have not tested with other versions since all of our document templates need to be generated using that version of Word. I feel like this can be done with a Macro or a VB script but I have a very small amount of time & no experience with these tools - Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Sudo Non-Password access to /sys/power/state

  On my computer, pm-hibernate appears to be broken, however using the command echo disk > /sys/power/state appears to work perfectly. Now I just need regular user access to it, using sudo. How do I do this? The command sudo echo disk > /sys/power/state simply returns bash: /sys/power/state: Permission denied. Also, I need this in a regularly used script, how can I make it so that I don't have to type in my password for it to work???

• Resize images to specific height value in ImageMagick?

  I've looked around for this, and can't find an easily implemented solution. Currently I'm working on an application that deals with panoramas. As they come out of the batch stitch process, the dimensions average 18000x4000. Using ImageMagick, how can I downscale those images to a specific height value while maintaining aspect ratio? According to the manual, the convert operation takes in both height and width to resize to while maintaining the same aspect ratio. What I'd like is to put in 600 and 1000 in my existing resize script function and have both a regular viewable image as well as a reduced size.
