• Recordset Update errors when updating sql_variant field

  I'm using C++ and ADO to add data to a SQL Server 2005 database. When calling the Recordset Update method for a sql_variant column I'm getting the error DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED and the error message Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. If the value I'm adding is NULL all works fine and all values going to the fields that are not sql_variant types work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks [Edit] I have some more information. The value we are storing is the empty string - ADO appears to want to store this in the sql_variant as a nchar(0), which of course is not a valid SQL data type. Is there a way to get an empty string in a sql_variant using the ADO batch commands?

  I have a tree structure in an sql table like so: CREATE TABLE containers ( container_id serial NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, parent integer REFERENCES containers (container_id)) Now i want to define an ordering between nodes with the same parent. I Have thought of adding a node_index column, to ORDER BY, but that seem suboptimal, since that involves modifying the index of a lot of nodes when modifying the stucture. That could include adding, removing, reordering or moving nodes from some subtree to another. Is there a sql datatype for an ordered sequence, or an efficient way to emulate one? Doesn't need to be fully standard sql, I just need a solution for mssql and hopefully postgresql EDIT To make it clear, the ordering is arbitrary. Actually, the user will be able to drag'n'drop tree nodes in the GUI

• C# Unit Testing: How do I set a Lazy<T>.ValueCreated to false?

  Basically, I have a unit test that gets a singleton instance of a class. Some of my tests required me to mock this singleton, so when I do Foo.Instance I get a different type of instance. The problem is that my checks are passing individually, but failing overall because one test is interfering with another. I tried to do a TestCleanup where I set: Foo_Accessor._instance = null; but that didn't work. What I really need is Foo_Accessor._instance.IsValueCreated = false; (_instance is a Lazy). Any way to unset the Lazy object that I didn't think of?

• Trying to use tcl threads on windows 7 results in access violation.

  I'm trying to get this simple program to work on windows, but it crashes: unsigned (__stdcall testfoo)(ClientData x) { return 0; } int main() { Tcl_ThreadId testid = 0; Tcl_CreateThread(&testid, testfoo, (ClientData) NULL, TCL_THREAD_STACK_DEFAULT, TCL_THREAD_NOFLAGS); } I am using a makefile generated by cmake and linking against a version of Tcl 8.5.7 I compiled myself using Visual C++ 2008 express. It was compiled using msvcrt,static,threads and the name of the resulting library is tcl85tsx.lib. The error is: Unhandled exception at 0x77448c39 in main.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000014. The Tcl library works fine, and I can even run a threading script example by loading the Thread extension into it. My assumption is that there is something horribly wrong with a memory violation, but I have no idea what. Any help appreciated.

• Using std::bad_alloc for C pointers

  I'm using a library written in C in a C++ project. I'd like to use C++ exceptions to handle C errors. In particular, it would be nice to have an exception thrown if an allocation fails. I can do this in constructors of classes which hold C-style pointers to C structs : if (c_object == NULL) throw std::bad_alloc(); But if the class is responsible for several C objects they are no ways of free-ing all already allocated pointers since the destructor isn't called. I have a feeling I could use smart-pointers, but I don't have much experience with them. What's more, I have to have access to the original C pointers to use the C api properly. Is there an elegant solution to this ?

• Getting the size of an opening window in WebKit

  Hi, I'm implementing a "WebKit Browser In An Application" which basically embeds WebViews in Qt widgets (we're using the WebKit browser instead of Qt's since it's stabler and more up-to-date). So far everything's great, until someone clicks on a link which invokes a Javascript "Window.open" function with a custom width and height for the new window. I've set the various delegates for the parent window: setFrameLoadDelegate, setResourceLoadDelegate, setPolicyDelegate, and setUIDelegate. I am getting a createWebViewWithRequest in the UI delegate as expected when the window opens (with a null request, as others have noted). I then get a decidePolicyForNavigationAction for the new window, but it doesn't have the proposed window's width or height. I NEVER get a decidePolicyForNewWindowAction for JavaScript window.open (also noted by others). So I'm at a loss. Is there a way to get this information so I can set the Qt Widget's size correctly?

• Mysterious different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data

  During investigation of some problem I found that the reason was unexpected different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data. Namely, in the code below two commands both return the same two items File1.txt and File2.txt. But conversion to string[] gives different results, see the comments. Any ideas why is it? This might be a bug. If anybody also thinks so, I’ll submit it.   I'm creating a search page on our SharePoint site that will allow users to find results from a SQL table by either performing a search from a text box @Param1, or selecting a value from a dropdown @SiteParam. My SQL SelectStatement is SELECT * FROM [Routing] WHERE [Site] LIKE CASE WHEN @Param1 IS NOT NULL THEN '%' + @Param1 + '%' ELSE @SiteParam This works great in SQL when I declare the parameters and set values for the search, but not so much in SharePoint. I've been able to get it to work if I don't do the case and just use 1 of the parameters, but I haven't found a way to get it to do either of them. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I am running the latest version of the MVC V2 framework and have been having no trouble at all - I came in this morning and for some reason values aren't being passed in to actions.   I have a trigger function that I only want to fire on certain instances of INSERTS, in this case, if do_backup = true. If it fires in all instances, I get an infinite loop. The logic seems pretty simple to me, and the rest of the function works. But the trigger function does not seem to register my conditional and always runs, even when backup = true.   I have a this table, where I store multiple ids and an age range (def1,def2) CREATE TABLE "template_requirements" ("_id" INTEGER NOT NULL, "templateid" INTEGER, "def1" VARCHAR(255), "def2" VARCHAR(255), PRIMARY KEY("_id")) Having values such as: templateid | def1 | def2 100 | 7 | 25 200 | 40 | 90 300 | 7 | 25 300 | 40 | 60 as you see for templateid 300 we have an or logic: age between 7 and 25 or age between 40 and 60. I want to get all the template ids that are not for a certain age like 25... What's the problem? If I run a query like this one: SELECT group_concat(templateid) FROM template_requirements where and '25' not between cast(def1 as integer) and cast(def2 as integer) it returns 200, 300, which is wrong, as the 300 matched on row 40 to 60, but shouldn't be included in the result as we have a condition with same templateid 7 to 25 that fails the not beetween stuff. How would be the correct query in SQLite, I would like to keep the group_concat stuff.

I added new field on Joomla's jos_users table, but when I wanted to get that field out, like "echo" - it didn't worked at all. Any other data, even password field I can get without problems. Of course, I added new value in /var/www/<project>/libraries/joomla/user/user.php like this after line 40. /** * The users address name * @var string */ var $address = null; What might be the problem here?
