• Getting data back from database after an ajax post submit

  I've got a web page where the user can add a new item to a category and that item is saved to the database. However, the ID of the item is an identity value for the database table, so I don't know what the ID will be, and I need this ID so that the user can edit the item later. I'm using ajax to make a POST submit: $.ajax({ url: 'TumourGroup/CreateSub', type: "POST", data: {'pos': index, 'text': text } }); This is linked to an MVC model with three fields, ID, pos, and text. Is there a way for me to get the ID that's generated on POST submit by having CreateSub(int index, string text) return something?

• Testing objects for changes

  I have an application that needs to determine whether a user has made a change to an object. So, when the object is first loaded, I create a deep copy (using serialization/deserialization) and save the copy to a separate field. The copy becomes myCurrentObject, and the original becomes myOriginalObject. Now I need to test myCurrentObject for changes, which I plan to do by comparing it to myOriginalObject. All I need is a boolean result indicating whether any changes have been made. I have already determined that a simple hashcode comparison won't work. GetHashCode() generates different results for the two objects, even when there are no changes. I am getting ready to write a method to do a property-by-property comparison, but before I do, I thought I would check to see if there is a simpler and more reusable way to test myCurrentObject to see if it has changed from myOriginalObject. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

• SharePoint thinks new Server is offline?

  I added an index server to the topology, and tried to switch it from the front end to the index server but for some reason I get an exception every time in Central Admin saying the server is offline. I checked everything... IIS is running and is serving out correctly The App Pool Identity is valid I restarted IIS I restarted the Indexing server I had a wierd problem when installing SP2 for SharePoint, (WSS sp2 installed fine) where it got stuck and "Upgrading SharePoint Products and Technologies" and I had to run the following command to get it to continue: psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force After that it said it succeeded with no errors... The only thing I haven't done is reboot the Primary server cause I have to do it in off hours, but I want to make sure I have covered all my other bases first...Any ideas?

  OK, I admit it this code will just look weird to you, and that's because it is weird. This is just code to reproduce the behavior, not code I want to use. class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { try { Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(Func<int>), new object[] { new object(), IntPtr.Zero }); } catch { Console.WriteLine("This won't print!"); } Console.Write("Actually this will not print either!"); Console.ReadLine(); } } No matter what exception type I try to catch (the actual exception thrown is an ArgumentException as far as I can tell) the code inside the catch block will not execute. Actually execution will just stop at the Activator.CreateInstance-line.

So, what i am looking for is a way to obtain this behavior. Meaning, whichever method is called in the wrapper class, call that method for all the Wrapped class objects and return the average of their results. Can it be done? how?   i am new to using jQuery and I just want to know how I can check whether a draggable object has been removed from the droppable object. Example, i have a dog and I dragged it to a doghouse which has a lightbulb that will light up indicating that the dog is there. When i drag the dog out of the doghouse, the lightbulb should go off again indicating the dog's absence. Help me please coz I really don't have any idea how to do this. Thanks in advance. :)

  Im trying to select all the li tags of the document and check if it hasClassName('yes') so if it has, it will remove it. But im having a TypeError: Object [object HTMLLIElement], has no method 'hasClassName' error. • Why would it be a bad idea to have database connection open between client requests?

  1) Book I’m reading argues that connections shouldn’t be opened between client requests, since they are a finite resource. I realize that max pool size can quickly be reached and thus any further attempts to open a connection will be queued until connection becomes available and for that reason it would be imperative that we release connection as soon as possible. But assuming all request will open connection to the same DB, then I’m not sure how having a connection open between two client requests would be any less efficient than having each request first acquiring a connection from connection pool and later returning that object to connection pool? 2) Book also recommends that when database code is encapsulated in a dedicated data access class, then method M opening a database connection should also close that connection. a) I assume one reason why M should also close it, is because if method M opening the connection doesn’t also close it, but instead this connection object is used inside several methods, then it’s more likely that a programmer will forget to close it. b) Are there any other reasons why a method opening the connection should also close it? thanx

Form Application : Service client application. I'd like to have certain properties of the service accessible for the hosting application but not for the client one. If I declare a property in the client interface they will both have access to it. In fact, my service manage user identity login and keep a list of all user currently logged in. I'd like to be able to show this list in the Hosting application, like a debugging tool. But I don't want the service client to be able to access to this list. How can I do ? Thank in advance.

• Jetty 7 Continuations: How to *not* redispatch the request?

  I'm using Jetty 7 continuations to implement some asynchronous processing. What I'm trying to do is start off the continuation (via .suspend()), and then hand the continuation off to some other object that will compose the response, which works fine. But Jetty keeps redispatching the response (with isInitial = false) to the servlet, and I don't want or need that, because the response is being dealt with by some other object. So, I'd like to find a way to explicitly not redispatch the request on timeout or expire, because I'm using an event-driven series of callbacks to actually produce the response.

  I use Linq to Sql (although this is equally applicable in Entity Framework) for my models, and I'm finding myself creating buddy classes for my models all the time. I find this time consuming and repetitive. Is there an easy way to automatically generate these buddy classes based on the models? Perhaps a visual studio macro?   Is there a way to instantiate a new PHP object in a similar manner to those in jQuery? I'm talking about assigning a variable number of arguments when creating the object.   My Visual Studio 2005 is a French one, installed on a French OS. All the exceptions I receive during debug or runtime I obtain also in French. Can I however do something that the exceptions messages be in English? • ASP.NET RadioButtonList help. If I set a selectedItem, that item doesn't react to SelectedIndexChang

  Hi Guys, I have a RadioButtonList on my web form. I have tried two different means to set the selected item. I have tried in the markup, and in code, like the Page_Load event. It sets and displays correctly. My problem is that the selected radio button no longer responds to the SelectedIndexChanged event. The other items works as expected and if I remove the code that sets the selectedItem, then the radio button works as expected. Is there any way I can set a radio button through code, and it still behaves as I would expect. I am guessing, if u force a button to be selected, then it doesn't change. I've often come across situations where I would like to or even need to use forms authentication. However, I using forms authentication, Integrated Security seems to use the logged in user's credentials to authenticate against the database. In these cases I have changed the connection string to use the credentials of a SQL Server users instead. I would prefer to not have a hard coded username and password in the connection string or rather worse in code. Is it possible to use forms authentication just for user authentication for users and windows authentication with the IIS user for database access? What would be the best practice in such a situation?

• Drupal Views pulling Data Fields

  I'm a little new to drupal but have been using things like devel module and theme developer to speed up the learning process. My question, is it possible to theme an entire views BLOCK from a single views tpl.php page OR even a preprocess? When I'm grabbing the $view object I can see results $node-result, it has all of the results, but it doesn't have all my views fields. I'm missing things like, node path, taxonomy titles and paths, etc. From my understanding, Drupal wants you to individually theme EACH output field. It seems rather superfluous to create so many extra templates when I've already got over HALF of my results coming through the $view object Would outputting node over field make this easier? Or am going in the wrong direction with $view-result? Thanks!

• Lazy loading in Hibernate

  My Java Web application uses Hibernate to perform ORM. In some of my objects, I use lazy loading to avoid getting data until I absolutely need it. The problem is that I load the initial object in a session, and then that session is destroyed. When I later attempt to resolve the lazy-loaded collections in my object I get the following error: org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException: failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: common.model.impl.User.groups, no session or session was closed I tried associating a new session with the collection and then resolving, but this gives the same results. Does anyone know how I can resolve the lazy collections once the original session is gone? Thanks... --Steve

• General rule - when to use a model (Codeigniter)

  Hi guys, I was just curious as to what the rule of thumb was for models. Generally, I use them only for situations where I need to add/edit or update database entries for an object. However, I'm building an app at the moment that has a "config" table which holds various data, such as last updated, which will control when certain features in the app should be displayed. In this instance, I will mostly need to retrieve data from the config table. Is it worth putting these config methods in model? I'm interested to hear how more experienced coders approach the MVC methodology in CI - example pseudo methods (e.g., what methods relating to the same object you'd use in the model and the controller) would be most helpful.
