• SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise won't install on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise

  I've been trying to install SQL Server on a new Windows Server 2008. I have tried everything but I haven't been able to narrow down the problem. When the installation fails I get " Exit code (Decimal): -2068643839". The problem with this is that according to Microsoft this is a generic error code. I follow their guide to look into the detail.txt inside C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\ But I can't find something that specifies the exact error. Any suggestions ? • How to ThinApp a Database Application & SQL Server 2005

  To make it easier for potential clients to try out our software without having to go to the trouble of installing SQL Server, a test database, setting up an ODBC connection and so on, we want to package the whole thing with VMWare ThinApp. Ideally, there'd be a single executable and all the user would have to do is run it. I've been reading up on ThinApp on the VMWare website but am still unsure how to go about doing this. Is the correct approach to put SQL Server and the application in separate packages, reverting to a clean version of the virtual enviroment prior to each packaging? That seems somewhat problematic because the app needs the DBMS to run, as well as an ODBC connection. Like I said, we'd prefer to go with a single package (package = executable?), but two executables are also acceptable if an alternative can't be found. I realize that the same result can probably be achieved by way of a custom SQL Server Express installation but ThinApp looks like a better and more elegant solution.

• ODI SDK: Retrieving Information From the Logs

  It is fairly common to want to retrieve data from the ODI logs: statistics, execution status, even the generated code can be retrieved from the logs. The ODI SDK provides a robust set of APIs to parse the repository and retreve such information. To locate the information you are looking for, you have to keep in mind the structure of the logs: sessions contain steps; steps containt tasks. The session is the execution unit: basically, each time you execute something (interface, package, procedure, scenario) you create a new session. The steps are the individual entries found in a session: these will be the icons in your package for instance. Or if you are running an interface, you will have one single step: the interface itself. The tasks will represent the more atomic elements of the steps: the individual DDL, DML, scripts and so forth that are generated by ODI, along with all the detailed statistics for that task. All these details can be retrieved with the SDK. Because I had a question recently on the API ODIStepReport, I focus explicitly in this code on Scenario logs, but a lot more can be done with these APIs. • Access to content of Lotus Notes database without Lotus Notes software installed

  I am looking for a programatic way to access content in a Lotus Notes database (.nsf file) without having Lotus Notes software installed. Python would be preferred but I'm also willing to look at other languages e.g. C/C++ or other means e.g. SQL From what I have read, all of the methods e.g. Python COM access, pyodbc rely on having Lotus Notes server software installed. The problem I am trying to solve is to read the content and look for references (URL's back to a web site that is undergoing maintenance and the addresses in the web site will change) As a start, I want to get a list of references and hope to be able to replace them with the new references to the modified web site. Any ideas on how best to do this welcome :)

• Hibernate: Found: float, expected: double precision

  I have a problem with the mapping of Oracle Float double precision datatype to Java Double datatype. The hibernate schema validator seems to fail when the Java Double datatype is used. org.hibernate.HibernateException: Wrong column type in DB.TABLE for column amount. Found: float, expected: double precision The only way to avoid this is to disable schema validation and hope the schema is in sync with the app about to run.   For some unknown reason OracleXETNSListener won't start which prevents SQL Developer from connecting to it. • Standard Apache (not OHS) with mod_osso for Single Signon

  The mod_osso.so (the Apache plugin for Single Signon, provided by Oracle) is distributed with the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), which is essentially a modified Apache. I am trying to use it on the standard Apache HTTP Server, and have not managed to get it to work. Configuration: Apache 2.2.15 OHS from the Oracle Web Tier Tools 11.1.1.2.0 Red Hat Linux 64 bit I have: Included the module in the modules directory (copied from corresponding modules dir in OHS) Included the libraries libiau.so and libclutsh.so.11.1 from Oracle Home. The absence of these libraries produced an error on starting Apache. Produced a osso.conf using the ssoreg.sh tool provided with OID (the LDAP implementation of Oracle) Created the required mod_osso.conf file, which I included in httpd.conf. • setSelection on Spinner based on rowId

  Hi! I have a Spinner View that's populated through a SimpleCursorAdapter. Based on the selection I need to save the rowid in the entry database (position won't work because things can be added and deleted from the Spinner Database). This I can do by using spinner.getAdapter().getItemId(pos) . But When I edit an entry I need to make the Spinner position selected that is associated with this rowid (currently). spinner.setSelection(position) won't work because I have the rowid, I need a way to find the current position of the item in the current spinner based on the rowid in the database.

• problem with codeigniter using odbc database driver

  i’ve run into a curious problem with codeigniter's odbc driver. i’m connecting from a linux machine to an MSSQL 2008 machine using FreeTDS. while i get that the ‘num_rows’ function always returns -1, and that is fully a database/driver issue - for some reason when i try to create a -result(), the whole application crashes (error 500, sometimes just a blank page), if i’m lucky, i get an error message informing me that the application died because it tried to allocated 2 terrabytes of memory(!). This happens irregularly, ie: every few refreshes. sometimes it runs fine, sometimes the page returns error 500 and sometimes it gives the memory allocation error - in any case it’s not really something that can be reproduced with percision, and the queries are SUPER simple. ideas anyone?

• Convert SQLITE SQL dump file to POSTGRESQL

  I've been doing development using SQLITE database with production in POSTGRESQL. I just updated my local database with a huge amount of data and need to transfer a specific table to the production database. SQLITE outputs a table dump in the following format: BEGIN TRANSACTION; CREATE TABLE "courses_school" ("id" integer PRIMARY KEY, "department_count" integer NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, "the_id" integer UNIQUE, "school_name" varchar(150), "slug" varchar(50)); INSERT INTO "courses_school" VALUES(1,168,213,'TEST Name A',NULL); INSERT INTO "courses_school" VALUES(2,0,656,'TEST Name B',NULL); .... COMMIT; How do I convert the above into a POSTGRESQL compatible dump file that I can import into my production server?

• CodeIgniter & Datamapper as frontend, Django Admin as backend, database tables inconsistent

  I created a database for a site i'm doing using Django as the admin backend. However because the server where the site is hosted on, won't be able to support Python, I find myself needing to do the front end in PHP and as such i've decided to use CodeIgniter along with Datamapper to map the models/relationship. However DataMapper requires the tables to be in a specific format for it to work, and Django maps its tables differently, using the App name as the prefix in the table. I've tried using the prefix & join_prefix vars in datamapper but still doesn't map them correctly. Has anyone used a combination of this? and if so how have the fixed the issue of db table names being inconsistent? Is there anything out there that i can use to make them work together?

  Folks, I am with the following error when trying to start an instance of the Publish ActiveDatabase. I'm using Designer 5.7.2 and trying to access a database of SqlServer 2008. • Is writing eSQL database agnostic?

  Using EF we can use LINQ to read data which is rather simple (especialy using fluent calls), but we have less control unless we write eSQL on our own. Is writing eSQL database actually data store independant code? So if we decide to change data store, can the same statements still be used? Is writing eSQL strings in your code pose any serious security threats similar to writing TSQL statements in plain strings? So we moved to SPs. Could we still mode eSQL scripts outside of code as well and use some other technique to make them a bit more secure?
