• Links don't work on new server

  I've recently moved from server with php4 to php5. Now I cant open content in my page. Links look like this "page.com/news-it-is-rainy-day-1.html". But when I try to open link I just get the archive (news.html). I also use smarty template engine. • Automatically change resolution when not in dock

  I have Ubuntu 11.04 (yep, I know it's old news) on my Lenovo W520. At home, I have a dock with dual monitors. I have a pretty decent setup - things work almost perfectly (hence the reason I'm reluctant to upgrade... that and I'm not 100% sold on Unity). Anyway, the only annoyance I have is that when I'm on travel, I use the laptop screen. When I un-dock the laptop, I need to manually go into nvidia x-server settings and change the resolution from 'Auto' to 1920x1200, or it will think I have two screens, and my mouse pointer will be able to go way off the left side of the screen. This isn't a big deal, but I need to do it every time I restart the x-server (so if I reboot, or have to kill it, etc...) What would be really nice is if there was a way for it to automatically detect whether or not there is external monitors (which it seems to do already), and switch into the mode I select, depending on which monitors are connected. Is there any way to accomplish this? • Dual-boot: Can't select Windows at boot

  I have a computer with 2 operating systems dual booted: One is Windows 7 and the other is Ubuntu. In the bootloader configuration, I removed an option stating time to select OS and I also set the default Operating System to Ubuntu. Now the bootloader is effectively proceeding into auto loading Ubuntu, while skipping itself. My problem is that I can not access my Windows 7 Operating System. Could someone give me a clue as to what to do?

• how did Google Analytics kill my site?

  Yesterday I created a google analytics profile for one of my sites and included the JS block in the layout template. What happened next was very strange. Within about 2 minutes, the site had become unreachable. I had been checking the AWStats page for the site when I thought to set up GA. After that had been done, I clicked on the link for 404 stats, which opens in a new tab. It churned for a long while and then showed a nearly blank page, similar to that when Firefox chokes on a badly-formatted XML page, except there was no error msg. But i was logged into the server and could see that that page has a 401 Transitional DTD. Strange! I tried viewing source but it just churned endlessly. I then tried "inspect element" and was able to see an error msg having to do with some internal Firefox lib. Unfortunately, i neglected to copy that. :-( All further attempts to load anything on the site would time out. Firebug's Net panel showed no request being made. Chrome would time out. So, I deleted the GA profile, removed the JS block, and cleared the server cache. No joy. I then removed all google cookies and disabled JS. Still nothing. No luck in any other browser. And now my client couldn't access the site. Terrific. I was able use wget while logged into another server. The retrieved page was fine, and did not contain the GA JS block. However, the two servers are on the same network. (Perhaps a clue.) The server itself was fine. Ping, traceroute looked great. I could SSH in. I tailed the access log and tried a browser request. Nothing. But i forgot to quit and a minute or so later I saw a request from someone else being logged. Later, I could see that requests had been served all day to some people. Now, 24 hours later, the site works once again, but is still unreachable by the client (who is in another city). So, does anyone have some insight into what's going on? Does this have something to do with google's CDN? I don't know very much about how GA works but what I'm seeing reminds me of DNS propagation issues. And why the initial XML error? And why the heck was the site just plain unreachable? What did google do to my site?! Sorry for the length but I wanted to cover everything.

  History We are currently using a so called redirect model for our online payments (where you send the payer to a payment gateway, where he inputs his payment details - the gateway will then return him to a success/failure callback page). That's easy and straight-forward, but unfortunately quite inconvenient and at times confusing for our customers (leaving the site, changing their credit card details with an additional login on another site etc). Intention & Problem description We are now intending to switch to an integrated approach using an exchange of XML requests and responses. My problem is on how to cater with all (or rather most) of the things that may happen during processing - bearing in mind that normally simplicity is robust whereas complexity is fragile. Examples User abort: The user inputs Credit Card details and hits submit. An XML message to the provider's gateway is sent and waiting for response. The user hits "stop" in his browser or closes the window. ignore_user_abort() in PHP may be an option - but is that reliable? might it be better to redirect the user to a "please wait"-page, that in turn opens an AJAX or other request to the actual processor that does not rely on the connection? Database goes away sounds over-complicated, but with e.g. a webserver in the States and a DB in the UK, it has happened and will happen again: User clicks together his order, payment request has been sent to the provider but the response cannot be stored in the database. What approach could I use, using PHP to sort of start an SQL like "Transaction" that only at the very end gets committed or rolled back, depending on the individual steps? Should then neither commit or roll back have happened, I could sort of "lock" the user to prevent him from paying again or to improperly account for payments - but how? And what else do I need to consider technically? None of the integration examples of e.g. Worldpay, Realex or SagePay offer any insight, and neither Google or my search terms were good enough to find somebody else's thoughts on this. Thank you very much for any insight on how you would approach this!

  I have added these lines to the hosts file: 127.0.0.1 localhost adobe.com 127.0.0.1 adobe.com It works perfectly on windows. But in Ubuntu 11.10 when I try to access it using Firefox the website is opening. Google chrome though supporting /etc/hosts configuration. Google chrome is displaying : "It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet."

  All works pretty good, I remember I didn't nothing unusual,just I installed a especific flash plugin to nuvola player, I can ear the sound with my headphones, but I can't I hear sound from the speakers. When I put in the terminal pulseaudio appears crash when trying to start the daemon I leave screenshot and in the System configuration in output play sound through is empty, in the past there appears 4 options I need reinstall pulseaudio??? • 12.04 update and nvidia

  I've just have had nasty surprise of graphics not working after latest update (bringing it up to kernel version 3.2.0-52-generic). Apparently after the update it was expecting nvidia-319 driver, while it seems to me that on 12.04 nvidia-current points to nvidia-304. Thus I had to manually install nvidia-319 and uninstall nvidia-304. Is this because I've have messed up something in my configuration or is it known issue?
