  I made a following test: # main.py import imported print imported.f.__module__ # imported.py def f(): pass # test_imported.py (py.test test case) import imported def test_imported(): result = imported.f.__module__ assert result == 'imported' Running python main.py, gives me imported, but running py.test gives me error and result value is moduletest.imported (moduletest is the name of the directory I keep the test in. It doesn't contain __init__.py, moduletest is the only directory containing *.py files in ~/tmp). How can I fix result value? The long story: I'm getting strange errors, while testing Django application. A call to reverse() from (django.urlresolvers). with function object foo as argument in tests crashes with NoReverseMatch: Reverse for 'site.app.views.foo'. The same call inside application works. I checked and it is converted to 'app.views.foo' (without site prefix). I first suspected my customised test setup for Django, but then I made above test.

• WCF Project vs. A folder in the existing website project?

  What way makes the most sense? I have a ASP.NET app... and maybe a Silverlight app in the future.. I want both to talk to web services.. At first, I like have the WCF project be by it self for the seperation.. But then I thought.. What is the point since I can just as easily have a 'WEBSERVICES' folder that contains all the .svc files and code in the EXISTING website project. ... Atleast that way.. deploying to a remote host will be a little easier since everything is in one project.. any other considerations ?

• Pre-crash iphone symptoms - odd user position, volume change

  I'm seeing intermittent strange symtoms in my app: Blue blob (user position in MKMapView) starts "exploding" (odd, jerky animation). Can begin at startup and seems to indicate eventual problems. Speaker volume suddenly increases (back to level before I invoked kAudioSessionSetProperty_OtherMixableAudioShouldDuck). The app keeps running, but this change tells me to expect no more sounds from AVAudioPlayer. Also a reliable indicator of a future crash (on save, etc). I'm having trouble provoking this in the debugger (seems to only happen with movement in GPS). Any ideas to track it down?

• Shark tool on iphone crashes

  Hi, I am trying to use Shark to profile my app. However, it crashes after I hit "stop" and it analyzes and then goes to "load session". Only once when I decided not to select my app but chose to target "everything" did it actually display some trace. However, I could not reproduce this case. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? Could it be something to do with the wrong version of Shark or my SDK or some other detail? I have the latest SDK and am running 3.1.3 on the phone. The various documentation I've found on google or via Apple's docs don't seem to be terribly helpful, so if anyone has found some that's useful, I'd love to see it. Thanks.

• Addressing a memory leak stops my UI from showing iphone

  Hi I've being getting a memory leak warning with a UITabbarcontroller. If I release the tabbarcontroller the warning goes away but the tabbar will not show any content. • How to rollback a database deployment without losing new data?

  My company uses virtual machines for our web/app servers. This allows for very easy rollbacks of a deployment if something goes wrong. However, if an app server deployment also requires a database deployment and we have to rollback I'm kind of at a loss. How can you rollback database schema changes without losing data? The only thing that I can think of is to write a script that will drop/revert tables/columns back to their original state. Is this really the best way?

I get a NullReferenceException. My DynamicMethod's signature is: public delegate void DynamicWrite(IMyXmlWriter writer, ref object value, MyContract contract); And I'm definitely not passing in anything null. Thanks in advance!

• XDocument holding onto Memory?

  I have an appplication that does a XDocument.Load from a 20mb file and then gets passed to a form to view its contents: openFileDialog1.FileName = ""; if (openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { AuditFile = XDocument.Load(openFileDialog1.FileName); fmAuditLogViewer AuditViewer = new fmAuditLogViewer(); AuditViewer.ReportDocument = AuditFile; AuditViewer.Init(); AuditViewer.ShowDialog(); AuditViewer.Dispose(); AuditFile.RemoveNodes(); AuditFile = null; } In Task Manager I can see the memory being used by my application shoot up when I open this file. When I have finished viewing this file in my application I call : myXDocument.RemoveNodes(); myXDocument = null; However the memory use in Task Manager is still pretty high against my app. Is the XDocument still being held in memory and can I decrease the memory usage by my app?

• django : nginx : jquery css not being served

  I'm using apache+mod_wsgi for django. And all css/js/images are served through nginx. For some odd, reason when others/friends/colleagues try accessing the site, jquery/css is not getting loaded for them, hence the page looks jumbled up. My html files use code like this - <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://x.x.x.x:8000/css/custom.css"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://1x.x.x.x:8000/js/custom.js"></script> My nginx configuration in sites-available is like this - server { listen 8000; server_name localhost; access_log /var/log/nginx/aa8000.access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/aa8000.error.log; location / { index index.html index.htm; } location /static/ { autoindex on; root /opt/aa/webroot/; } } There is a directory /opt/aa/webroot/static/ which have corresponding css & js directories. The odd thing is that the pages show fine when I access them. I have cleared my cache/etc, but the page loads fine for me, from various browsers. Also, I don't see any 404 any error in the nginx log files. Actually the logs for nginx are not getting refreshed at all. I restarted the nginx server using root, is that incorrect ? There is a user www-data defined in the nginx configuration file. Any pointers would be great.

  I read Apple is allowing developers to submit iPad apps for the great opening of the ipad store, but I cannot find anything in my account that says that or allows sending the apps. Another thing is: in order for an app to be accepted you have to sign it with your own certificate but to do that you have to select the device on Xcode. As far as I know, Xcode do not signs with certificates applications that run on the simulator. Beyond that, any try to build a distribution package on Xcode shows messages like "you should disable armv6", and others. So, I ask. Is this news true? If yes, how to I manage to have the app ready for iPad and ready for submission? thanks.

• Abort a slow flush to disk after write?

  Is there a way to abort a python write operation in such a way that the OS doesn't feel it's necessary to flush the unwritten data to the disc? I'm writing data to a USB device, typically many megabytes. I'm using 4096 bytes as my block size on the write, but it appears that Linux caches up a bunch of data early on, and write it out to the USB device slowly. If at some point during the write, my user decides to cancel, I want the app to just stop writing immediately. I can see that there's a delay between when the data stops flowing from the application, and the USB activity light stops blinking. Several seconds, up to about 10 seconds typically. I find that the app is holding in the close() method, I'm assuming, waiting for the OS to finish writing the buffered data. I call flush() after every write, but that doesn't appear to have any impact on the delay. I've scoured the python docs for an answer but have found nothing.

• How to prevent a modal UIImagePickerController from rotating?

  I have an app that fully support rotation. I am modally adding a UIImagePickerController for which there is no support for UIInterfaceOrientationLandscape and I cannot get the controller to stay in portrait. In other words, I need to disable rotation for the UIImagePickerController so it stays in portrait, without removing rotation for the rest of my app. this seems basic, but I can't seem to locate it. How can I prevent this rotation? UPDATE As suggested, I tried subclassing with the following code: @interface UAImagePickerController : UIImagePickerController { } @end @implementation UAImagePickerController - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation { return UIDeviceOrientationIsPortrait(toInterfaceOrientation); } @end The line is not being hit at all with a breakpoint… i think there must be something funky about the UIImagePickerView

I read from this page: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/User:C_Sharp that there's this Microsoft SDK for Facebook Platform that has binary assemblies that I can use to write my C# app. As a start, I want to try out the example mentioned on the above-mentioned page -- one that gets me a friend list. The problem is: I am completely new to this Facebook development thing and I see I am going to need, at the very least, an API Key and some Facebook service Secret key or some such, to begin writing some code. Do I also need a developer account? Where do I get all these things from?

• Lightweight jQuery ColorPicker bound to input and with popup selector

  I've found two jQuery colorpickers that I'm considering using in my app. I have a simple input field that I'm asking users to supply a hex color to. I'd like to use jPicker's "Binded" example, however, the overall size of the jPicker is a bit more than I'd like to add to my app. So that sent me searching and I found a very nifty little compact picker called "Farbtastic", which does exactly what I want with one major exception: It appears to be an inline only solution (meaning, I can't call it in the same manner as jPicker's binded example. Can someone tell me how I might convert Farbtastic to mimic jPicker's binded example? More specifically, I'm looking to place a colorpicker widget (the small color frame icon as in the jPicker example) next to my input field so that it displays the currently selected color, and when clicked, it opens up the color palette widget.

• Invalid AuthenticityToken everywhere

  I have a rails app that I just deployed which is generating Invalid AuthenticityToken errors anywhere a form is submitted. The app uses subdomains as account names and will also eventually allow for a custom domain to be entered. I have an entry in production.rb to allow for cross-domain session handling. The problem is that you can't login / or submit any form because everything raises an Invalid AuthenticityToken error. The issue looks similar but not the same as http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1201901/rails-invalid-authenticity-token-after-deploy plus I'm not using mongrel. I've tried clearing cookies in the browser, and restarting passenger but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? The server is running nginx + passenger 2.3.11, and Rails 2.3.5. #production.rb config.action_controller.session[:domain] = '.domain.com' #environment.rb config.action_controller.session = { :session_key => '_app_session', :secret => '.... nums and chars .....' }

• SQL Server 2008 Bring Database Online trying to open a file from a drive that doesn't exist

  This is my error I am facing TITLE: Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo Set offline failed for Database 'Go3D_Retailer ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\ftrow_Go3D_catalog.ndf". Operating system error 2: "2(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)". Database 'Go3D_Retailer' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details. ALTER DATABASE statement failed. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120) Background to this error I've been trying to move my destination logshipping database to another physical server for analysis purposes. Because I do not have domain keys and active directory set up, I had to hack my process by using the same username/password for both the source and destination servers to get the process to work. Following that, I used this guy's solution to move the destination database to another server. However, this error occurs when I try to bring the database back online. I don't have an E drive on my server and I have no idea why it's trying to open a file from E drive. I have over a 100gb left on my hard disk so it's definitely not a space issue. This sounds like a bug... Any ideas?

• PyQt4: Why does Python crash on close when using QTreeWidgetItem?

  I'm using Python 3.1.1 and PyQt4 (not sure how to get that version number?). Python is crashing whenever I exit my application. I've seen this before as a garbage collection issue, but this time I'm not sure how to correct the problem.   I've inherited a moderate size network that I'm trying to bring some sanity to. Basically, its 8 public class Cs and a slew of private ranges all on one vlan (vlan1, of course). Most of the network is located throughout dark sites. I need to start separating some of the network. I've changed the ports from the main cisco switch (3560) to the cisco router (3825) and the other remote switches to trunking with dot1q encapsulation. I'd like to start moving a few select subnets to different vlans. To get some of the different services provided on our address space (and to separate customers) on to different vlans, do I need to create a subinterface on the router for each vlan and, if so, how do I get the switch port to work on a specific vlan? Keep in mind, these are dark sites and geting console access is difficult if not impossible at the moment. I was planning on creating a subinterface on the router for each vlan then setting the ports with services I want to move to a different vlan to allow only that vlan.   I'm working on a WPF app and I understand the command pattern pretty well, but I've found that there are several different implementations of the command pattern for MVVM. There's Josh Smith's implementation in his WPF sample app, the DelegateCommand from Prism, and the CommandBindings implementation. My question is, what is the generally accepted best practice for using commands with MVVM? My application uses Prism so DelegateCommand is available to us. The devs on my team are arguing about which approach is "best." Some don't like the numerous .cs files generated for each command, others prefer that everything be wired up via CommandBindings. I'm at a loss. Can anyone shed some light?

  This may be a really dumb question but I figure why not... I am using RIA Services with Entity Framework as the back end. I have some places in my app where I accept user input and directly ask RIA Services (and in turn EF and in turn my database) questions using their data. Do any of these layers help prevent security issues or should I scrub my data myself? • Best way to encrypt certain fiels in SQL Server 2008?

  I'm writing a .net web app that will read and write information to a SQL 2008 backend database. Some of this information will be highly confidential in nature so I want to encrypt certain data elements. I dont want to use TDE or any full-database encryption for performance reasons. My main concern is protecting this sensitive data as a last resort against a SQL injection or even a database server compromise. My question is what is the best way to do this to preserve performance? Is it faster to use the SQL2008 encryption functions such as EncryptByKey, or would it be faster to encrypt and decrypt the data in the .NET web app itself using a symmetric key stored in the secure web.config and store the encrypted values in the DB?

  I am using Grails 2.1.0 and Twitter Bootstrap Plugin 2.1.1 and am encountering an issue with navbar-fixed-top. In order to get the Navbar fixed to the top of the page to behave correctly during resize, the Twitter Bootstrap Docs states: Add .navbar-fixed-top and remember to account for the hidden area underneath it by adding at least 40px padding to the . Be sure to add this after the core Bootstrap CSS and before the optional responsive CSS. How can I do this when using the Grails Plugin for Twitter Bootstrap? Here is what I have tried: main.gsp <head> ... <r:require modules="bootstrap-css"/> <style type="text/css"> body { padding-top: 60px; padding-bottom: 40px; } .sidebar-nav { padding: 9px 0; } </style> <r:require modules="bootstrap-responsive-css"/> <r:layoutResources/> </head> The problem is that Grails Plugin for Twitter Bootstrap takes the content of bootstrap.css and bootstrap-responsive.css and combines them into the following merged file: static/bundle-bundle_bootstrap_head.css.
