  • fitnesse test framework, arbitrary properties for test and queries/test runs based on them?

    hi, our testers have the requirement to store multiple properties for a test that are not present in the "properties". e.g. they want to store priority, a description(not in the wiki page itself) and so on. they don't want to use the tagging mechanism. is there a way to store any kind of new xml node in the properties.xml for a test? these properties should then be used to: query the fields via the search screen run tests based on the "SuiteResponder" ?suite=xxx&TAGx=abc&TAGy=cde they should be returned by "?properties" responder. they should appear in the test history of the test run in essence they want to store any kind of "meta" information in the properties.xml and work with them in all kinds of ways, search, run etc. does anybody here know if there is already something available in that direction? if not i think we have to "pimp" these features into fitnesse to make our testers happy. thanks a lot any help appreciated marcel ps: i've also posted the question in the yahoo fitnesse group

  • Why would it be a bad idea to have database connection open between client requests?

    1) Book I’m reading argues that connections shouldn’t be opened between client requests, since they are a finite resource. I realize that max pool size can quickly be reached and thus any further attempts to open a connection will be queued until connection becomes available and for that reason it would be imperative that we release connection as soon as possible. But assuming all request will open connection to the same DB, then I’m not sure how having a connection open between two client requests would be any less efficient than having each request first acquiring a connection from connection pool and later returning that object to connection pool? 2) Book also recommends that when database code is encapsulated in a dedicated data access class, then method M opening a database connection should also close that connection. a) I assume one reason why M should also close it, is because if method M opening the connection doesn’t also close it, but instead this connection object is used inside several methods, then it’s more likely that a programmer will forget to close it. b) Are there any other reasons why a method opening the connection should also close it? thanx

    I am learning JPA w/Hibernate using a Java SE 6 project. I'd simply like to be able to detect if the connection between Hibernate and my database (MS SQL Server) is open. For example, I'd like to be able to detect this, log it, and try reconnecting again in 60 seconds. This is what I thought would work but isOpen() doesn't appear to be what I want (always is true): EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("rcc", props); if (emf != null && emf.isOpen()) { EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager(); if (em == null || !emf.isOpen()) // error connecting to database else ...   • How can I create objects based on dump file memory in a WinDbg extension?

    I work on a large application, and frequently use WinDbg to diagnose issues based on a DMP file from a customer. I have written a few small extensions for WinDbg that have proved very useful for pulling bits of information out of DMP files. In my extension code I find myself dereferencing c++ class objects in the same way, over and over, by hand. For example: Address = GetExpression("somemodule!somesymbol"); ReadMemory(Address, &addressOfPtr, sizeof(addressOfPtr), &cb); // get the actual address ReadMemory(addressOfObj, &addressOfObj, sizeof(addressOfObj), &cb); ULONG offset; ULONG addressOfField; GetFieldOffset("somemodule!somesymbolclass", "somefield", &offset); ReadMemory(addressOfObj+offset, &addressOfField, sizeof(addressOfField), &cb); That works well, but as I have written more extensions, with greater functionality (and accessing more complicated objects in our applications DMP files), I have longed for a better solution. I have access to the source of our own application of course, so I figure there should be a way to copy an object out of a DMP file and use that memory to create an actual object in the debugger extension that I can call functions on (by linking in dlls from our application). This would save me the trouble of pulling things out of the DMP by hand. Is this even possible? I tried obvious things like creating a new object in the extension, then overwriting it with a big ReadMemory directly from the DMP file. This seemed to put the data in the right fields, but freaked out when I tried to call a function. I figure I am missing something...maybe c++ pulls some vtable funky-ness that I don't know about?     I can write: update my_table set xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/b', '1') where document_id = 123 Now what if in the same update query I also want to set /a/c to 2 (in addition /a/b to 1)? I am tempted to write: update my_table set xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/b', '1'), xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/c', '2') where document_id = 123 But this give me a "ORA-00957: duplicate column name". Any suggestion on how to do this?

  • are there java based auto-updating tools other than WebStart & Eclipse P2?

    Hi, I am working on a java based application and we are looking to ease our deployment of updates. Up until now, we've always simply sent out new install packs & had the sysadmin's on our customer sites roll out the upgrades - painful for a large number of users. what I'd like to do is something similar to java webstart (or eclipse p2) - when the application starts, it checks for updates in a specified location and then downloads the updates prior to starting. But here's my problem - I want more control over what's done outside of the scope of plugins & jar files. For example: I'd like to be able to upate my JVM (we ship a modified version with additional security features). I need to install DLL's - possibly local to the jar files, sometimes to windows Occasiontally run MSI's to install windows components (e.g. printer drivers). I need to modify config files & the registry. I have found a few applications that support this (such as AppLifeUpdate at http://www.kineticjump.com/) but they tend to be .NET focused and it seems a bit perverse to introduce a .NET dependancy on a java application ;) I know I could write my own here, but if there is already a 3rd party library out there that supports this kind of facility, then it would make my life a lot easier. So, has anyone else had a similar problem & knows of some products I could look at? Thanks, Brian.

    I have some wxImages and I would like to store them into a BLOB (Binary Large OBject) field in a MySQL database. There are no methods in wxImage nor wxBitmap for obtaining the binary data as an array of unsigned char so I can load into the database. My current workaround is to write the image to a temporary file, then load the BLOB field directly from the file. Is there a more efficient method to load and store a wxImage object into a MySQL BLOB field? I am using MySql C++ connector 1.05, MS Visual Studio 2008, wxWidgets and C++.

    i wanna get a xml representation of the ast of java and c code. 3 months ago, i asked this question yet but the solutions weren't comfortable for me srcml seems to be a good solution for this problem but it does not support line numbers and columns but i need that feature. about elsa: cite: "There is ongoing effort to export the Elsa AST as an XML document; we expect to be able to advertise this in the next public release." dms... didn't understand that. especially for java, there is javaml which supports line numbers. but the sourceforge page doesn't list any files. question: there's software available which supports conversion of ast into xml which supports line numbers (and columns) [especially for java and c/c++]? is there an alternative to javaml and srcml? ps: i don't wanne have parser generators. i hope to find a tool which can be used on the console typing: ./my-xml-generator Test.java [or something like that]... or a java implementation would be great too.

    I'm trying to display my code on a website but I'm having problems preserving the whitespace indentation correctly. For instance given the following snippet: <html> <body> Here is my code: <pre> def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end </pre> <body> </html> This is displayed in the browser as: Here is my code: def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end When I would like it displayed as: Here is my code: def some_funtion return 'Hello, World!' end The difference is that that current indentation level of the HTML pre tag is being added to the indentation of the code. I'm using nanoc as a static website generator and I'm using google prettify to also add syntax highlighting. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    I am trying to cobble together a login script in PHP as a learning project. This is the code for my database write when the user registers. Both of these values are written to the database. $this->salt = md5(uniqid()); $this->password = md5($password.$salt); Upon logging in, the following function is fired. For some function challengeLogin($submittedPassword, $publicSalt, $storedPassword){ if(md5($submittedPassword.$publicSalt) == $actualPassword){ return 0; }else{ return 1; }; } Unfortunately, on stepping through my code, the two values have never equaled. Can someone help me understand why?

  • Is there a way to only backup a SQL 2005 database structure fully, but only the data in a certain se

    I have several schemas in my database, and the largest one ("large" meaning disk space consumed) is my "web" schema which is a denormalized copy of data in the operational schemas. This denormalized data is able to be reconstructed at anytime, and is merely there for extremely fast read purposes. Since the data is redundant, and VERY large - I'd like to exclude it from being backed up. I already have stored procedures that can regenerate all of the data in that schema in a couple of hours - for use in the event of a failure. I assume I can split the tables in this schema out to another data file or such (ideally even on another drive for faster reads), but is there a way to never have that data file backup, yet still in the event of a failure its structure could be restored (and other DDL stuff like procs, views, etc)? Somewhat related, can I also have these tables not do transaction logging, if I go to "Full" backup mode for the rest of the database?

    I have a game consisting of a client / server + a webpage. A central notion in both client and game-/webserver is an Account. Accounts are stored in a database thus I'm in need of some ORM and recently had a look at Hibernate and Cayenne. My understanding however, is that both frameworks provide an "DatabaseBackedAccount"-class which I extend with my other Account methods. My problem is that the Account class is reused heavily on the client side, and I would obviously not want to include database-related code on the client implementation. My current solution is to have an Account class (shared by server and client) and extend this with a DatabaseBackedAccount (overriding setter-methods and providing a commit method) on the server side. I find this quite natural and nice, however I've had to implement all gory sql-details and ORM myself. Is there any way to "turn the table" in any existing ORM framework, so that the generated classes extend my existing class?

  • CSS: Possible to define styles mid way through an html document?

    In ASP.NET MVC, there are these snippets of html called view templates which appear when their matching data appears on the screen. For example, if you have a customer order and it has a vendor address, the vendor address view template shows up populated with data. Unfortunately, these don't have access to "MasterPages" nor are aware of their CSS surroundings. Instead of loading these up with style tags, is there any way to create partial CSS files that could work for that particular html snippet, a sort of in-line CSS style section? It would be really nice to plop this down just before we render the partial view: <style type="text/css"> input { margin: .2em .2em; overflow: hidden; width: 18.8em; height: 1.6em; border: 1px solid black;} </style> to have the 15 or so input fields in that particular Html snippet be formatted the same. These are swapped out, so the positions of the input fields change. This may also imply a CSS reset on each partial view.

    Hi, I've been stuck with this problem where there are 3 steps in an asp wizard control. The first step has a radiobutton (yes and no) and based on the radio button input chosen by the user, i would need to hide or show a label in the second wizardstep. Example: Step 1: Choose 1 among the two options: Yes No (radStep1) Step 2: if the radiobutton option in the previous step was yes.. then display a label(lblStep2) in this step.. Else hide the label. I've been handling this through the jquery as i want the functionality in the aspx page itself... The jquery code goes like this... $("#<%=radStep1.ClientID %> input").click(function() { if($("#<%= radStep1.ClientID %> input").index(this) == 0) { $("#<%=lblStep2.ClientID %>").show(); } else if($("#<%= radStep1.ClientID %> input").index(this) == 1) { $("#<%=lblStep2.ClientID %>").hide(); } However, in both the cases, the label is getting displayed.. Could you please help me out if there is anything that i'm missing? I'm guessing that the label is getting hidden at first and then getting shown again once i click on the next button...
