• Convert Int List Into Integer

  This is a bit of an odd case I must admit, but I'm trying to find a succinct and elegant way of converting a List<int> into an actual int. For example, if my list contained entries 1, 2, and 3, then the final integer would be 123. The only other way I thought of doing it was converting the array to a string and then parsing the string. Any hints?

  I'm trying to build a basic POP3 mail client in C/++, but I've run into a bit of an issue. Since you have to define the buffer size when building the program, but a message can be arbitrarily large, how do you, say, get the mail server to send it to you in parts? And if this isn't the correct means of solving the problem, what is? And while I'm here, can anyone confirm for me that RFC 2822 is still the current document defining email layout? Thanks

  In "traditional" ASP.NET (Web Forms), the UpdatePanel control lets you do a partial refresh of a part of a page. You don't need to write much code to hook this up. What's the equivalent in ASP.NET MVC? I'm guessing I'd need to use a partial view for the bit that I want to update, then on the client side retrieve that HTML and pump it into the innerHtml of the correct DIV? A tutorial/example would be helpful...

Since I'd like to bill my customers by usage, I wondered if there is any smart kind of way to get the number of times a given file has been downloaded?   I'm just starting out with x64 compilation. I have a couple of char*'s, and I'm subtracting them. With a 32-bit compile, this works: char * p1 = .... char * p3 = ... int delta = p3 - p1; But if I compile for x64 I get a warning: warning C4244: 'initializing' : conversion from '__int64' to 'int', possible loss of data What is the correct type to use, to represent a difference between two pointers, that works in both x86 and x64 compiles?

• Perl: How do I remove the first line of a file without reading and copying whole file.

  I do have a whole bunch of files in a directory and from every file I want to remove the first line (including carriage return). I can read the whole file into an array of strings and write all but the first element to a new file, but that looks a bit cumbersome to me are there better ways? Oh the prefered language is Perl.
