• WCF 3.5 to 3.0 backwards compatibility with callback services

  I have a set of existing WCF services hosted in a .NET 3.0 app. They're using the WSHttp bindings and no security. I need to connect to these from a .NET 3.5 client. This seems to be working fine for the one-way services, but I also have some callback services (with CallbackContract and SessionMode = Required, using WSDualHttpBinding); these fail to connect with a timeout somewhere in the ReliableSession code. The service side cannot be changed (it's a historic version issue). Can I modify something on the client side to get this working? (I can connect with a .NET 3.0 client just fine, but I'd rather not be forced to try that path.) The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:00:09.9410000. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.   How can I prepare the configuration settings (App.config, maybe?) I need to use Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block in a C# console project? Following is what I currently trying with an App.config in the console project.   I have been using Windows 7 for a while but have not had to work with a particular legacy intranet application since my upgrade. Unfortunately, this application is setup as an ASP.NET Website project hosted on a remote server. When I have the website open in Visual Studio 2008 and try to debug it I get the following compiler error: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission' failed To resolve this issue on Windows Vista machines, I would change the machine's .NET Security Configuration trust level to full for the local intranet (fix outlined here). I believe this configuration utility relied upon the mscorcfg.msc which from some cursory research appears to be apart of the .NET 2.0 SDK. I have tried to follow the instructions from this Microsoft Support article running the command below to no avail. • Page.User.Identity.Name is blank on pages of subdomains

  I have multiple subdomains trying to use a single subdomain for authentiction using forms authentication all running on windows server 2008 r2. All of the forms authentication pages are setup to use the same name, and on the authentication page the cookie is added with the following snippet: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(txtUserName.Text, false); System.Web.HttpCookie MyCookie = System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie(User.Identity.Name.ToString(), false); MyCookie.Domain = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["domainName"]; Response.AppendCookie(MyCookie); When I am logged in to signon.mysite.com the page.user.identity.isauthenticated and page.user.identity.name properties both work fine. When I navigate to subdomain.mysite.com the page.user.identity.isauthenticated returns true, bue the name is empty. I tried to retrieve it from the cookie using the following, but it also was blank. HttpCookie cookie = Request.Cookies[".ASPXAUTH"]; FormsAuthenticationTicket fat = FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(cookie.Value); user2_lbl.Text = fat.Name; When googling the issue I found some people saying something must be added to global.asax and other saying it wasn't necessary. The goal is to be able to login on the authentication subdomain and have the user identity accessible from the root site and other subdomains. Machine keys match in all web.config, and the AppSettings["domainName"] is set to "mysite.com" currently. Does anyone know what is preventing me from accessing the user information?

• java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in command line

  Hi, I'm developing an application in Eclipse and it runs fine from within Eclipse. The problem I'm having is that when I export it to a jar file and run it from the command line I get a NoClassDefFound error for javax.mail.internet. In both my project build path and class path I have included the activation.jar and mail.jar libraries required for me to use javax.mail.internet, and like I said it works fine from within Eclipse but not when I export it to a jar. If my build path has those files and so does my class path why would this not be working? • SSL certificates: No Client certificate key exhange

  I am trying to access a WCF web service, that is using two way SSL encryption. When I try to call the service I get a System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS with authority 'XXX.xx'. --- System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. I have tried activating wire shark, to see what is sent to and from the server: I see a client hello and a server hello. But there is no client response to the server hello. I was expecting a "Certificate. Client key exchange. Change cipher. Encrypted handshake Message" package, but none is sent. I'm thinking it is a problem with the certificate sent by the server, that somehow my client server does not trusy it. Here is what I have already tried: I have created the certificate, through the proper authority, though I could have made a mistake in the certificate request without knowing it. I have added the two root certificates to: trusted root certificates, trusted publishers and trusted people. I have also added the client certificate to trusted people. My colleague has succeded in establishing connection on a win 2008 server (i'm using a 2003, because it is necessary for some odd reason - don't ask). I can't see any differences in our approach, so i'm a bit lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I obtain a row with two columns with "null" value : CompanyID | CompanyName | SubTotal | Tax | TotalRevenue Null Null 145487 27642.53 173129.53 this success because all rows have been grouped with out taking care about the firsts columns and just Summing the valuable columns, so I need to change that null for default values as CompanyID = "100000000" and CompanyName = "Others". • How to explain to users the advantages of dumb primary key?

  Primary key attractiveness I have a boss(and also users) that wants primary key to be sophisticated/smart/attractive control number(sort of like Social Security number, or credit card number format) I just padded the primary key(in Views) with zeroes to appease their desire to make the control number sophisticated,smart and attractive. But they wanted it as: first 2 digits as client code, then 4 digits as year year, then last 4 digits as transaction number on that client on a given year, then reset the transaction number of client to 1 when next year flows. Each client's transaction starts with 1. e.g. WM20090001, WM20090002, BB2009001, WM20100001, BB20100001 But as I wanted to make things as simple as possible, I forgo embedding their suggested smartness in primary key, I just keep the primary key auto increments regardless of client and year. But to make it not dull-looking(they really are adamant to make the primary key as smart control number), I made the primary key appears to them smart, on view query, I put the client code and four digit year code on front of the eight-zero padded autoincrement key, i.e. WM200900000001. Sort of slug-like information on autoincremented primary key. Keeping primary key autoincrement regardless of any other information, we are able keep other potential side effects problem when they edit a record, for example, if they made a mistake of entering the transaction on WM, then they edit the client code to BB, if we use smart primary key, the primary keys of WM customer will have gaps in their control number. Or worse yet, instead of letting the control numbers have gaps/holes, the user will request that subsequent records of that gap should shift up to that gap and have their subsequent primary keys re-adjust(decremented). How do you deal with these user requests(reasonable or otherwise)? Do you yield to their request? Or just continue using dumb primary key and explain them the repercussions of having a very smart/sophisticated primary key and educate them the significant advantages of having a dumb primary key? The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.   I'm trying to get a bitmap/snapshot of a Wowza video stream playing on my client, like so: var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(view.videoPlayerComponent.width, view.videoPlayerComponent.height); bitmapData.draw(view.videoPlayerComponent); When I do this, I get this error message: SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: http://localhost:51150/Resources/WRemoteWebCam.swf cannot access rtmp://localhost/videochat/smithkl42._default/. No policy files granted access. I presume the error comes from not being able to locate the appropriate crossdomain.xml file. I'm not quite sure where it's looking for it, and a wireshark sniff was inconclusive, so I've tried placing one in each of the following places: http://localhost/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:1935/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:51150/crossdomain.xml I can retrieve the file successfully from each of those three locations. (I'm pretty sure that the last one wouldn't have any effect, since it's just the location of the web site which hosts the page that hosts the .swf file, but on the off chance...) These are the contents of the file that it's grabbing in each instance: <cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" /> </cross-domain-policy> And it's still throwing that same error message. • Facebook Connect application inside iframe not working in IE7

  I am building a Facebook Connect application that runs inside a Google gadget. Being a gadget means that the application runs inside an iframe. Inside the application, there is a form that allows registered users to post comments. The submission is made using AJAX, but I get the same results with a normal form. The problem is that I need to get the user's facebook id. In Firefox, it works fine, but on Internet Explorer 7, I get the following error: 'A session key is required for calling this method' I believe that this is due to the way IE handles third-party cookies, because if I go to Internet options / Privacy / Advanced, and check Override automatic cookie handling and accept all cookies, it works fine. I cannot pass the Facebook id from the javascript, because anyone could tamper it. EDIT: If I open the content of the iframe directly, the app works fine. The problem is really due to the IFRAME and IE security model. What am I doing something wrong? How can I work around this problem?

  I have a WPF app that I'm deploying to a network path using ClickOnce deployment. After the app is deployed to a network location, I use the ClickOnce html page to launch the installation process. I am successfully able to download and install the app. However, my users are not able to download and install the app. When a user navigates to the ClickOnce html page and clicks to begin the installation process, the following error message is received: ERROR SUMMARY Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log. * Activation of http://software.mycompany.com/myapp/myapp.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected: + Downloading file://dev/webs/software/myapp/myapp.application did not succeed. * [4/5/2010 1:56:59 PM] System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDownloadException (Unknown subtype) - Downloading file://dev/Webs/software/myapp/myapp.application did not succeed. All signs point to this being a security issue. So, I've done the following: Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the files that were being deployed as part of my project Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the network location where the app was deployed (//dev/webs/software/myapp) Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the IIS path where the ClickOnce html page is located In each of these cases, I've made no progress in getting the app to successfully deploy via ClickOnce. Again, the odd thing is that I am able to successfully walk through the process of downloading and installing the app. It's my users, though, that need the ability to download and install the app. I've looked extensively on the web for answers, but there hasn't been much. I'd like to resolve the issue without "re-installing" or "rigging" anything. I need a solid answer. Thank you all for your input!! Mike

• How to create a folder under %allusersprofile% during Setup with VS 2003 Setup Project?

  I need to create a folder under "%allusersprofile%/Program Data" during the install process. The Setup file is created with VS 2003 setup project, and in it you can use several Known Folders... but as I see none maps to %allusersprofile% or "%allusersprofile%/Program Data". I thought that creating a "Custom Folder" (within VS Setup Project) and setting the TargetLocation as %allusersprofile% it would work, but during install it says that I don't have permission to that folder (and I do have). Do you know how to target that folder in VS Setup Project? Also... I'm working in Windows XP, so %allusersprofile% maps to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users", but there I suppose I should create my folder inside the "Program Data" folder. In Vista, %allusersprofile% maps to "C:\ProgramData" and it look correct if I create my folder directly there. Any idea how to target both OSs? Additional info: I'm trying this to avoid the new security features in Vista, where the app can't write files under the Program Files folder when running as a common user at least. So I need to place the writable files on "common" folder that is not in a "per user" basis.

• Executable war file that starts jetty without maven

  I'm trying to make an "executable" war file (java -jar myWarFile.war) that will start up a jetty webserver that hosts the webapp contained in the war file I executed. Main-Class: Start The contents of the war look like: > Start.class > jsp > build.jsp > META-INF > MANIFEST.MF > WEB-INF > lib > jetty-6.1.22.jar > jetty-util.6.1.22.jar When I try to execute the .war file, the error is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/mortbay/jetty/Handler Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.Handler at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:248) Could not find the main class: Start. Program will exit. There appears to be two errors here, one where it seems the jar files can't be found and one where the Start.class can't be found. To fix the first one, I put the jetty .jar files in the base of the war and tried again, same error. I also tried adding the WEB-INF/lib/ to the Class-path attribute of the manifest. That did not work either. Does anyone have any insight as to what I'm doing right/wrong and how I can get this executable war up and running?

• How to use SSL3 instead of TLS in a particular HttpWebRequest?

  My application has to talk to different hosts over https, and the default setting of ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = TLS served me well up to this day. Now I have some hosts which (as System.Net trace log shows) don't answer the initial TLS handshake message but keep the underlying connection open until it times out, throwing a timeout exception. I tried setting HttpWebRequest's timeout to as much as 5mins, with the same result. Presumably these hosts are waiting for an SSL3 handshake since both IE and Firefox are able to connect to these hosts after a 30-40 seconds' delay. There seems to be some fallback mechanism in .NET which degrades TLS to SSL3, but it doesn't kick in for some reason. • Ideas for networking project

  Hi all, I'm a graduating senior in computer science taking a computer networks class and I'm trying to figure out my final project. I normally am not at a loss for ideas but be it senioritis or straight burn out, I've got nothing. I've done some fun stuff in the past, but I just can't seem to come up with a good idea. Given the mass of brilliance on this site, I figured it would be a good place to request some suggestions. To give you an idea of scope, it's due in about a month and I would consider myself proficient with mobile architectures like Android (although I have no iPhone experience) along with Java, C++, etc. If you can suggest an idea, I'd be happy to make it work in whatever language I know. Like I said, I'm a senior and will be graduating so I'd rather not take on something that would kill me... Also, I'd be happy to make it open source if it's an idea you'd always wanted to work on but didn't have the time to start. Thanks in advance for the help! • File permissions with FileSystemObject - CScript.exe says one thing, Classic ASP says another...

  I have a classic ASP page - written in JScript - that's using Scripting.FileSystemObject to save files to a network share - and it's not working. ("Permission denied") The ASP page is running under IIS using Windows authentication, with impersonation enabled. If this is correct - then why is the same user, on the same domain, getting different results from CScript.exe vs ASP? If my ASP code is running as dylan.beattie, then why can't I see the network share? And if it's not running as dylan.beattie, why does WScript.Network think it is?

• Sharepoint.OpenDocuments Control Compatible with Forms Authentication?

  We are using the Sharepoint.OpenDocuments.EditDocument2 ActiveX control and method. The method is being called from JavaScript in an IE6 client on a Windows XP SP3 client (fully patched). The server is running IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 Fronting the IIS server is Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) which proxies access to the web applications sitting behind it. Similar to forms authentication, it creates a session cookie for authentication purposes, that must be present for the HTTP request to reach the IIS server. In front of TAM is an F5/BigIP load balancer and SSL encryption offloader, which enforces that incoming requests use the HTTPS protocol. What is happening is that HTTP requests issued by this control do not contain any session cookies that were present in the browser. It drops the ASP.NET session cookie, the ASP.NET forms authentication cookie and the TAM cookie Because the TAM cookie is missing the request is redirected to the TAM login page, which then shows up via HTML conversion in Word or Excel. The API documentation at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms440037.aspx mentions nothing about security or appropriate usage scenarios for this control. Should these controls work in an ASP.Net Forms Authentication scenario or are they only supported with Windows Authentication. If Forms Authentication is supposed to function, how do we get the control to include the necessary session cookies in its requests?
