• How to achieve "merge" of two data sets with Insert SQL statemen (Oracle DBMS)t?

  Hi: What would be the insert SQL statement to merge data from two tables. For example I have events_source_1 table (columns: event_type_id, event_date) and events_source_2 table (same columns) and events_target table (columns: event_type_id, past_event_date nullalbe, future_event_date nullable). Events_source_1 has past events, Events_source_2 has future events and resultant events_target would contain past and future events in the same row for same event_type_id. If there is no past_events but future_events then past_event_date won't be set and only future_event_date will be and the opposite is true too. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me resolving this problem.

• When is porting data from MySQL to CouchDB NOT advisable? Seeking cautionary tales

  I've dabbled in CouchDB and I have pretty good MySQL experience. I've also created one production application that uses both. I like MySQL but I've run into scaling/concurrency issues with MySQL that CouchDB advertises itself as a general solution for. The problem is that I have MySQL based applications that are pretty huge, and I don't really know whether it would be a good idea or not to try to port them over to a CouchDB datastore. I don't want to put in a lot of time and effort only to find out that my application is really not a good fit for CouchDB. Is there any sort of informed consensus on when porting a MySQL based app to CouchDB is NOT advisable? Any cautionary tales? I think CouchDB is really cool and want to use it more. I'd also like to know ahead of time what specific types of data querying scenarios CouchDB is really not good for, or if CouchDB can really replace MySQL for all the applications I create going forward.

  Hello everybody, I have to populate javascript code in html layout (hidden fields, method params) with string data from model. Html.Encode is not appropriate for my task because it encodes ' symbol, bypass : (that ruines object attributes declaration) and so on. I wrote static helper class that is used from View like this: alert('<%=ViewHelper.MakeJavaScriptSafe(Model.Message)%>'); I hope there is asp.net in-built function I don't know about for this task. • How to get dataset to populate data into dbgrid in Delphi 6?

  I have created a DBGrid in Delphi 6 and tied it to a DataSource contained in a DataModule. The Dataset for that source in also located in the same module. In the OnShow event for the form, I activate the dataset and set a label equal to the rowcount for the dataset. This shows several hundred rows but nothing shows in the dbgrid. If I activate the dataset in the IDE, the grid populates with the expected data. Does anyone have any idea why this behaviour would change between the IDE and normal runtime? We are also using SDAC connection components. All 3rd party component choices are not mine to change. I can elaborate as necessary for clarification, but I mainly need troubleshooting ideas to start at.

  Hii, I have a data table, and this datatable will be dynamically manipulated. After certain manipulation at the end we will populate that to the database. Which state mechanism can i use for this to retain. I have tried both Session and ViewState but ViewState can't use with AJAX rich appplications. Session will be clear after the user session. i can't afford both these difficulties. Does any other mechanism to keep the datatable through out the page.

I wish to go through the database of Wikipedia (let's say the English one), and do statistics. For example, I am interested in how many active editors (which should be defined) Wikipedia had at each point of time (let's say in the last 2 years). I don't know how to build such a database, how to access it, how to know which types of data it has and so on. So my questions are: What tools do I need for this (besides basic R) ? MySQL on my computer? RODBC database connection? How do you start planning for such a project?

• What is the best way to keep database data encrypted with user passwords?

  Let's say an application has really specific data which belongs to a user, and nobody is supposed to see it except the owner. I use MySQL database with DataMapper ORM mapper. The application is written in Ruby on Sinatra. Application behavior: User signs up for an account. Creates username and password. Logs into his dashboard. Some fields in specific tables must be protected. Basically, I'm looking for auto-encryption for a model properties. Something like this: class Transaction include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :value, String, :length => 1024, :encrypted => true ... etc ... belongs_to :user end I assume that encryption/decryption on the fly will cause performance problems, but that's ok. At least if that works - I'm fine. Any ideas how to do this?

I know my SQL works with a null parameter, but the ranks dropdown is not data binding when I select [All Regions] on the region list. It binds when I select a region from the DB, but keeps that binding when I select [All Regions] again. What am I doing wrong?

  In my system, I create a custom audience - data file - mobile advertiser ids with 10k user. (After breaking change in October 2014, status field not return. So I see operation_status) I see that: "operation_status": { "code": 410, "description": "No file has been uploaded for this audience, or the previous upload has failed due to system error. Please try uploading the file again." } But after about 10s, I refresh again, and operation_status change to: "operation_status": { "code": 200, "description": "Normal" } My quetions is: how to check this audience's status is waiting ( uploading file) , like when I create on facebook not my our system. • How would you use version control for personal data, like a personal website?

  This is more a use-case question, but I generate static files for a personal website using txt2tags. I was thinking of maybe storing this information in a git repository. Normally I use RCS since it's simplest, and I'm only a single user. But there just seems to be a large trend of people using git/svn/cvs/etc. for personal data, and I thought this may also be a good way to at least learn some of the basics of the tool. Obviously most of the learning is done in an environment where you collaborate. So back to the question: how would you use use a version control system such as git, to manage a personal website?

Or is there some framework I can use to do this more easily/quickly? Maybe there isn't - it won't be too hard to do it the above way. • nodejs, mongodb - How do I operate on data from multiple queries?

  Hi all, I'm new to JS in general, but I am trying to query some data from MongoDB. Basically, my first query retrieves information for the session with the specified session id. The second query does a simple geospacial query for documents with a location near the specified location. I'm using the mongodb-native javascript driver. All of these query methods return their results in callbacks, so they're non-blocking. This is the root of my troubles. What I'm needing to do is retrieve the results of the second query, and create an Array of sessionIds of all the returned documents. Then I'm going to pass those to a function later. But, I can't generate this array and use it anywhere outside the callback. Does anyone have any idea how to properly do this? http://dpaste.org/wXiE/

  For the first time I am needing to join information from two tables and am quite nervous about doing it without any advice first. Basically, I am building a secure site that is accessed by authorised users. I have my login table with user_id, username, password Once the user is on the site, they have the option of inputting data into another table called input. At the moment this table only captures the information that is entered, not the user_id or username of the inputter. I would like the form to be able to input the user_id and/or username from the login table into the input table. Please could somebody talk me through this process? I am sure that once this is amended, I will then be able to use the table to only allow the logged in user to access the information that he or she have inputted, is that correct? Many thanks

When I do: "insert into table values (1, select ref(p), ref(d), '239 F.3d 1343', '35 USC § 283', ... from plaintiff p, defendant d where p.name='name1' and d.name='name2');" I get a "missing expression" error. If I do: "insert into table 1, select ref(p), ref(d), ... from plaintiff p, defendant where p.name=...;" I get a "missing keyword VALUES" error.

  Hello, An example would set the context right, the example below captures the various states of the entity, which needs to be reverted(rolled back) . State 1 - Recorded on 01-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.56 State 2 - Recorded on 02-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.57 State 3 - Recorded on 03-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.58 User notices that state3 is not what he intended to be in, decides to revert back to state2. One approach that I can think of, without modifying the entity is via "auditing" all the inserts/updates, as below, the rollback information captures the data just before the updates/modifications on the entity, so that it can be applied in an order when you need to revert.Please note that changing the entity's schema, is not an option. Rollback - R1 recorded on 01-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.56 Rollback - R2 Recorded on 02-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.56 Rollback - R3 Recorded on 03-Mar-2010 Column1 Column2 Data1 0.57 So, to get to state2 , we would start with rollback information R1,apply R2 onto it. • What's the best way to debug AJAX to PHP calls?

  I'm having a miserable time debugging one small function on my new project. Essentially I'm having a user log out via an AJAX call to my log out script on my server called "userfFunctions.php" I'm using AJAX so that I don't have the headache of writing more regex to match my mod_rewrites. Anyway, every so often, it seems as though my Post data just flat out dies and since the PHP is running behind the scenes, I feel like I have no way of finding out where the data flow is being disrupted. BTW This function works 19 hrs of the day. • Post data with jQuery to ASP.net, am I doing this secure enough?

  For a website I am building, I am using jQuery to post data to Generic Handlers I created for this purpose. Because you need to be logged in, to do most post actions (like 'rate a picture'), I am currently using the following technique: User visits page Page determines if user is logged in On Page_Load the page fills a hidden field with an encrypted string, which contains several needed variables, like User ID, Picture ID (of the picture they are currently viewing), the DateTime when the page was rendered. When the user clicks a "I like this picture"-button, I do a $.ajax post to my Generic Handler, with the encrypted string and the value whether or not they liked the picture. The Generic Handler decrypts the supplied encrypted string and takes a look at the DateTime to determine if it was not too long ago When everything works out, the vote is submitted to the database. In my understanding this is a pretty secure way to handle a situation like this. But maybe I am missing a very important point here. Any advice would be very welcome.

• Some way of getting just the data part from a web service returning a DataTable?

  I'm using an external web service that returns a DataTable. There's a couple of problems with this. The first is that there are over 20,000 columns, and .Net crashes when trying to convert the xml to a DataTable. I have to use Mono to make this work. The other problem is that it takes a lot of time to fetch all the column information. The columns "never" changes (and when they do, I know about it in advance). I would like to just fetch the data part, and load the schema from a local file. I very much doubt this is possible, but I thought I could ask here just in case.

• Admin panel - what is the best way to display "static" data in the layout?

  I'm about to write a admin panel for my CMS written in CodeIgniter. There will be some user information visible at all time - both in the layout's header section and the sidebar. I'm used to do it in a way that I personally hope and think could be done a lot easier, since I'm tired of sending the same parametres to the view over and over again, when it's dynamic data that needs to be displayed on every page anyways (such as unread messages, username, name, status, etc). I'll need controllers and models, I know that, but do I have to pass, just for an example, the user's username, unread messages etc. every time I need to load a view? Should I do some kind of library for this? Now my question is: How would I do it when it comes to best practice and for making it easy to maintain in the future? I hope my question is understandable :)

  I have some xml files, which are used in my application. They are stored in the same folder with application , in subfolder DATA: "C:\MyProject\DATA\". But after i install the program f.e. "C:\Project"(DATA folder- "C:\Project\DATA" i got the error: "folder C:\DATA is not found". What i need to change to make things working after deployment. Why it looks for the DATA folder on 1 level higher?
