  • Python simulation-scripts architecture

    - by Beastcraft
Situation: I've some scripts that simulate user-activity on desktop. Therefore I've defined a few cases (workflows) and implemented them in Python. I've also written some classes for interacting with the users' software (e.g. web browser etc.). Problem: I'm a total beginner in software design / architecture (coding isn't a problem). How could I structure what I described above? Providing a library which contains all the workflows as functions, or a separate class/module etc. for each workflow? I want to keep the the workflows simple. The complexity should be hidden in the classes for interacting with the users' software. Are there any papers / books I could read about this, or could you provide some tips? Kind regards, B

  • Wifi works perfectly on Windows, but drops on Ubuntu

    - by alecRN
I have a dual-boot computer with Windows XP on one partition and Ubuntu 10.10 on the other. In Windows XP I can connect to a hidden wireless network (WPA-PSK AES) perfectly, and I was finally able to install the driver for the adapter on Ubuntu (RNX-N180UBE, hardware id RTL8191SU). It works fine when I first boot the computer and log in, but then after a few minutes the network suddenly stops working completely. If I try to reconnect it, the network manager claims to have connected, but in actuality it's still down. At some points, I have been able to connect to a public network even while the private network didn't work, but that eventually wouldn't work at all either.

  • Mobile browsers list and test advice

I have made a list of the fifteen mobile browsers I currently test. This will give you some insight in the current mobile browser market, which is volatile, complicated, and sometimes shrouded in mystery. One of the commonest questions I get is “Which mobile browsers should I test?” The hidden question here is which devices you should own. It’s time to attempt an answer.A mobile testing environmentPersonally I’ve been pretty lucky in the past year. • Fixing a broken toolbox (In Visual Studio 2010 SP1)

    - by mbcrump
I was recently running into a situation where every time I opened Visual Studio 2010 SP1, the following message would appear for about 60 seconds or so: "Loading toolbox content from package Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.Toolbox.ControlInstaller.ToolboxInstallerPackage '{2C98B35-07DA-45F1-96A3-BE55D91C8D7A}'" After finally get fed up with the issue, I started researching it and decided that I’d share the steps that I took to resolve it below: I first made a complete backup of my registry. I then removed the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Packages\{2c298b35-07da-45f1-96a3-be55d91c8d7a}] I went to the following directory: C:\Users\Your Name Here\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\ and created a folder called bk and moved the .tbd files to that folder (they are hidden so you will have to show all files). I then removed the .tbd files in the root directory. I then launched Visual Studio 2010 SP1 again and it recreated those files and the problem was gone. Anyways, I hope this helps someone with a similar problem. I created this blog partially for myself but it is always nice to help my fellow developer.  Thanks for reading. Subscribe to my feed

  • two windows loader in grub

    - by Lorenzo
i'm facing a strange problem about which - googling- i didn't find any solution. This is the issue. I've restored windows 7 trught its hidden partition then i installed kubuntu 12.04 which didn't installed the grub loader. Hence via the same usb-live i used boot-repair which have found all the system that are: kubuntu + its recovery mode windows 7 /dev/sda1 windows 7 /dev/sda2 windows 7 recovery I don't know why i have got 2 windows loader, but they seem (to me) to load the same system. I tryied to see what is there written in the grub.cfg and it seems that the "root" directory for the two system is different eventhought when i load from sda1 i got "Avvio windows" (italian laguange that i choosed) and on sda2 i got "start windows" in the english language when the splash screen load. Can you PLEASE help me removing one of the two entry? i can not really see them, i want only one but i don't know how to act.. Thank you very much indeed. Lorenzo

  • ATI propriatery drivers install latest 12.8, broke my kernel. Stuck on kernel 3.2.0-26

    - by user66987
I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me. I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it. I have kernel 3.2.0-29 too, but the system cannot see that as well. In the grub menu. When I use sudo update-grub, they are both listed. Here are the output I get: Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub Cannot determine root device. Assuming /dev/hda1 This error is probably caused by an invalid /etc/fstab Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst Searching for splash image ... none found, skipping ... • Gnome-classic, new windows remain buried behind other window

    - by Naten Baptista
This is my first question on this forum. I have recently moved from ARCH Linux to Ubuntu 11.10. I switched to using Gnome-Classic and noticed strange behaviors with the windows whenever I open them. I have setup Launchers on the Panel to launch Dolphin, Terminal and Chrome Browser. Whenever I launch any of these I notice that they open behind the current window that is in-focus instead of coming up in front. According to me any sane windows manager would by default bring up the new window in front and focus, I mean why would you want to open a window hidden behind all other window??? Is there any thing or configuration that I need to check as this problem is driving me nutts . Thanks in advance

But nothing works. the hard drive is being shown empty but the properties are saying that it still conatins the data : http://imgur.com/ObjTE in the image, it is showing that the directory has only 1 file of size:4.8 kbps but the space being used by the drive is 11.6 GB. do suggest some solution.

  • How do I avoid the complexity concerns of frameworks while keeping my team marketable?

    - by Desolate Planet
When deciding upon how to design a software project with my colleagues, most suggestions tend to be for using specific frameworks "because it's popular in the job market" or "that's the framework that gets recruiters on the phone," and never what I'm looking for which is, "because it's a good fit for the project as it makes the system more adaptive to future changes and makes life easier for developers." I didn't start looking at projects in this way until I started reading up on domain-driven design. I've found that the actual domain is hidden deep under the frameworks used and it's hard to learn the business processes that have been implemented by the software product. Is there a way to marry the two competing goals: getting exposure as a development team while still being able to avoid complexity? Are frameworks that compromise, or are there other solutions out there?

  • How to Enable SideLoading in a SharePoint Site

    - by Damon Armstrong
I was trying to deploy a SharePoint App for the first time and ran into an error about SideLoading not being enabled on the site. The solution is fairly simple – you just have enable the Developer feature on the site.  Unfortunately, it’s a hidden feature so you have to do it through PowerShell.  While searching the internet for the command to enable the feature I kept running into really long scripts that seemed overly complicated.  Fortunately, Jeff (a friend at work) sent me this snippet that is very concise and does the job: Enable-SPFeature e374875e-06b6-11e0-b0fa-57f5dfd72085 –url http://yoursharepointbox/site/ Obviously, you will need to update the URL to match your environment!

  • centering ul so that columns will be centered too

    - by user1815176
In my page I want it so that when you resize the page past the point of the pictures, that the pictures will go into another row, all the way so each picture has it's own row. And then potentially I won't need any media queries. But unfortunaltely I can't find a way to center. I have tried everything I can think of, aside of making hundreds of media queries with different positioning. I can't make it a block because then it won't go into rows, I have tried margin: 0 auto;. I have tried changing the padding, I have even tried using the html align="center". Nothing is working. Here is the website http://spencedesign.netau.net/singaporehome.html Also I have a minor issue, sorry to croud this with two questions. But when it is in it's mobile state, there is no 10px padding at the bottom, and the singapore title is on the left side rather than floating. • Should Scala IDE Worksheets be part of your open git repository?

    - by JacobusR
Those familiar with Scala IDE will know about the great testing environment offered by the Scala Worksheet. You can scribble and scratch, much like in the REPL, but with all the goodness added by the IDE as a whole (refactoring, saving, error checking, etc). When you create a worksheet, it is created with the .sc extension, and also creates a artifact under a hidden directory called .worksheet. This is all fine and dandy, but should one include these in your public .git repositories? People who does not use Scala IDE (or older versions) may find these files confusing. On the other hand, making some of your experiments public to developers who are using Scala IDE, may give them a quick start into experimenting and learning the project.

  • Why do spammers use CELESTRON NEXTAR 6SE?

    - by fmz
I am running a website for a volunteer organization that hosts an annual event. There is a form where people can volunteer to bring items for the event. All too frequently I get spam from users across the globe that enter things like this: Country - 1: Australia Material - 1: CELESTRON NEXTAR 6SE Country - 2: Australia Material - 2: C8 Newton Country - 3: Australia Material - 3: ETX 125EC Country - 4: Australia Material - 4: ETX 125EC Country - 5: Australia Material - 5: CELESTRON NEXTAR 6SE I don't really care about the country, but what is it with the telescope stuff? Is there some hidden meaning behind all this or is it some astronomy group that moonlights as spammers?

  • Reset Windows share password after 'Remember forever'

    - by timmit
I've been happily connecting to a Windows share from my 14.04 machine. When I first entered the password for the share I chose to have it remembered forever. Yesterday I changed the password on the Windows machine, today I can't access the share... My searches for a solution have been in vain, most suggestions say that there is an entry in the Password & Keys (seahorse) app that should be deleted, this doesn't exist for me. I even ran seahorse as the root user to see if the key was hidden away in there, but no luck. Is there anywhere else I should be looking? Shouldn't the Nautilus app be prompting me to update my password in this scenario?

  • Should I implement an interface directly or have the superclass do it?

    - by c_maker
Is there a difference between public class A extends AbstractB implements C {...} versus... public class A extends AbstractB {...} AbstractB implements C {...} I understand that in both cases, class A will end up conforming to the interface. In the second case, AbstractB can provide implementation for interface methods in C. Is that the only difference? If I do NOT want to provide an implementation for any of the interface methods in AbstractB, which style should I be using? Does using one or the other have some hidden 'documentation' purpose?

  • Retrieve the coordinates of the *occluding* (closest/drawn) pixels during 3D overlap, using OpenGL?

    - by Big Rich
Hi, Sorry if the question is not worded well, I'm a new to both 3D and OpenGL. How could I go about obtaining the 3D coordinates of the occluding object, at the point where occlusion is happening (i.e. the 'intersection' of the object in front/closest to the screen)? Just to offer a [very] rudimentary, visual, example, if you were to form an index-finger cross, with your right hand closest to your face, I'd like to know the coordinates of the part of your right finger which obscures the other finger (obviously back within the OpenGL context - no jokers ;-) ). If there is a way to find out both about the occluder (hider) and the occluded (hidden) objects in OpenGL, then that would be of great use, also. Cheers Rich

  • Installed Ubuntu on a macbook pro and am running into errors with internet

    - by user209270
I recently installed Ubuntu (64 bit, 12.04) on a mid-2012 Macbook Pro, and I've been having some really annoying issues. Chief among them is that my wireless doesnt seem to function properly. I've installed Ubuntu on this mac before, and again this time the drivers for the wireless card were missing. I, using something along the lines of sudo su apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer A new problem I've been experiencing however is that none of the networks available in my home show up. I've been able to connect theto themm by going into "Connect to hidden networks" and typing in the network name and password, but when I restart the computer my network (let's just name it "Network1"), doesnt show up. I tried going into "Edit Connections" and it shows up in the wireless tab, but it is never connected to automatically or shows up in the drop-down menu. Any help?

  • More than 2gb of Music without paid plan possible?

    - by user8007
Hi there, I do not have a paid plan for UbuntuOne and do not intend of buying one, but I do like to buy music from the UbuntuOne Music Store. Is it possible to buy music, once I bought more than 2gb or would I have to move the music out of the UbuntuOne share? In this case, I would suggest to put the music in the official ubuntuone-folder instead of a hidden one. Non-technical users will not understand, why their shared music files are not in this folder, but others are popping up there (e.g. in the webinterface). Best Regards, Lars

    - by user1702273
Hi am having an issue with the margin auto of my website where i have a wrapper div with the width set to 1000px and the margins top and bottom to 0 and left and right to auto. I have a navigation menu in the side bar, where i used java script to replace the same div with different tables. when i click a link in the menu the wrapper shifts right some px and the comes to original, I don't want that action i want the wrapper to be static and not to vary at any time. how can i achieve that. when i set the margin to just 0, so problem with positioning. But i want the wrapper to be centered. - by user95240
Earlier today i installed ubuntu 12.10 beta. Grub wasn't booting, but just going directly to my primary OS Windows 7. I assumed i had partitioned incorrectly, because partitioning isnt my strong suit. I used boot repair because it was well recomanded off a live usb. Afterwards, grub appeared, but i only had options for Ubuntu, Advanced Ubuntu Option, and my hidden windows 7 recovery partition. Please help me recover my access to windows partiton. See this link for Boot-Repair report: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1266467/ ps. ran Boot-Repair a second time - no change

  • Silverlight 4 enables Authorization header modification

A little bit of hidden gem in the Silverlight 4 release is the ability to modify the Authorization header in network calls. For most, the sheer ability to leverage network credentials in the networking stack will be enough. But there are times when you may be working with an API that requires something other than basic authentication, but uses the Authorization HTTP header. The Details Basically you just set the header value. Hows that for details :-). Seriously though, heres a snippet of code:...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.
