• PHP Arrays: Pop an array of single-element arrays into one array.

- by Rob Drimmie
Using a proprietary framework, I am frequently finding myself in the situation where I get a resultset from the database in the following format: array(5) { [0] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(241) } [1] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(2) } [2] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(81) } [3] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(560) } [4] => array(1) { ["id"] => int(10) } } I'd much rather have a single array of ids, such as: array(5) { [0] => int(241) [1] => int(2) [2] => int(81) [3] => int(560) [4] => int(10) } To get there, I frequently find myself writing: $justIds = array(); foreach( $allIds as $id ) { $justIds[] = $id["id"]; } Is there a more efficient way to do this?

• Iterate Through JSON Data for Specific Element - Similar to XPath

- by Highroller
I am working on an embedded system and my theory of the overall process follows this methodology: 1. Send a command to the back end asking for account information in JSON format. 2. The back end writes a JSON file with all accounts and associated information (there could be 0 to 16 accounts). 3. Here's where I get stuck - use JavaScript (we are using the JQuery library) to iterate through the returned information for a specific element (similar to XPath) and build an array based on the number of elements found to populate a drop-down box to select the account you want to view and then do stuff with the account info. So my code looks like this: loadAccounts = function() { $.getJSON('/info?q=voip.accounts[]', function(result) { var sipAcnts = $("#sipacnts"); $(sipAcnts).empty(); // empty the dropdown (if necessarry) // Get the 'label' element and stick it in an array // build the array and append it to the sipAcnts dropdown // use array index to ref the accounts info and do stuff with it } So what I need is the JSON version of XPath to build the array of voip.accounts.label. The first account info looks something like this: { "result_set": { "voip.accounts[0]": { "label": "Dispatch1", "enabled": true, "user": "1234", "name": "Jane Doe", "type": "sip", "sip": { "lots and lots of stuff": }, } } } Am I over complicating the issue? Any wisdom anyone could thrown down would be greatly appreciated.

• Evaluating creation of GUI via file vs coding

- by nevets1219
I'm working on a utility that will be used to test the project I'm currently working on. What the utility will do is allow user to provide various inputs and it will sends out requests and provide the response as output. However, at this point the exact format (which input is required and what is optional) has yet to be fleshed out. In addition, coding in Swing is somewhat repetitive since the overall work is simple though this should be the safest route to go as I have more or less full control and every component can be tweaked as I want. I'm considering using a configuration file that's in XML to describe the GUI (at least one part of it) and then coding the event handling part (in addition to validation, etc). The GUI itself shouldn't be too complicated. For each type of request to make there's a tab for the request and within each tab are various inputs. There seems to be quite a few questions about this already but I'm not asking for a 3rd party library to do this. I'm looking to do this myself, since I don't think it'll be too overly complicated (hopefully). My main consideration for using this is re-usability (later on, for other projects) and for simplifying the GUI work. My question is: are there other pros/cons that I'm overlooking? Is it worth the (unknown) time to do this? I've built GUI in VB.NET and with Flex3 before.

• Problem with routes in functional testing

- by Wishmaster
Hi, I'm making a simple test project to prepare myself for my test. I'm fairly new to nested resources, in my example I have a newsitem and each newsitem has comments. The routing looks like this: resources :comments resources :newsitems do resources :comments end I'm setting up the functional tests for comments at the moment and I ran into some problems. This will get the index of the comments of a newsitem. @newsitem is declared in the setup ofc. test "should get index" do get :index,:newsitem_id => @newsitem assert_response :success assert_not_nil assigns(:newsitem) end But the problem lays here, in the "should get new". test "should get new" do get new_newsitem_comment_path(@newsitem) assert_response :success end I'm getting the following error. ActionController::RoutingError: No route matches {:controller=>"comments", :action=>"/newsitems/1/comments/new"} But when I look into the routes table, I see this: new_newsitem_comment GET /newsitems/:newsitem_id/comments/new(.:format) {:action=>"new", :controller=>"comments"} Can't I use the name path or what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks in advance.

• FileNotFoundExcecption while inserting image into SDCard.

- by Are
Hi, I want to insert images into my SDCard.So I used below code m_cImagePath = "/sdcard/"+ String.format("%d.jpg", System.currentTimeMillis()); FileOutputStream lObjOutStream = null; try { lObjOutStream = new FileOutputStream(m_cImagePath); if (null != lObjOutStream && null != finalBitmap) { finalBitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 85, lObjOutStream); lObjOutStream.close(); }catch(FileNotFoundException fe){ fe.printStackTrace(); } Sometimes it is giving FileNotFoundException even my SDCard had memory.When I remove some images from sdcard again it is working smoothly.Why this Happend?How can i know that file is inserted successfully in SDCard and Is there any functionality in Java1.5 to know available space of the SDCard like java 1.6?How can i know file length which is not before inserting into the SDCard(I searched in google and found that "when the file is not physically there then file.length() always gives 0" ).But before inserting i want to know the length of the file.Then Comparing this space to available SDCard space is simple. Note :I had an idea to use Unix command df sdcard using in Runtime class to found SDCard space. Please give me an idea in this problem. Regards, Android Developer

• C++ string.substr() function problem

- by VaioIsBorn
I want to make a program that will read some number in string format and output it like this: if the number is 12345 it should then output 12 23 34 45 . I tried using the substr() function from the c++ string library, but it gives me strange results - it outputs 1 23 345 45 instead of the expected result. Why ? #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; int main(void) { string a;cin >> a; string b;int c; for(int i=0;i<a.size()-1;++i) { b = a.substr(i,i+1); c = atoi(b.c_str()); cout << c << " "; } cout << endl; return 0; }

• Expressjs route param as variable in main app

- by MoDFoX
For my app I have two route set up, app.get('/', routes.index); app.get('/:name', routes.index); I would like it to be so that if I don't specify a param, say just go to appurl.com (localhost:3000), it would load a default user, but if I do specify a param(localhost:3000/user), use that as the variable "username" in the following function (placed after my routes). (function getUser(){ var body = , username = 'WillsonSM', options = { host: 'ws.audioscrobbler.com', port: 80, path: '/2.0/?method=user.gettopartists&user=' + username + '&format=json&limit=20&api_key=APIKEYGOESHERE' }; require('http').request(options, function(res) { res.setEncoding('utf8'); res.on('data', function(chunk) { body += chunk; }); res.on('end', function() { body = JSON.parse(body); artists = body.topartists.artist; }); }).end(); })(); Along with this I have my route set up like so: exports.index = function(req, res){ res.render('index', { title: 'LasTube' }); username = req.params.name; console.log(username); }; unfortunately setting username there to req.params.name does not seem to be accessible from the main app function. My question is: How can I set expressjs/nodejs to use the parameter set via /name when available, and just use a default - in this example "WillsonSM" if not available. I've tried taking "username" out of the main app, and just leaving it in the function, but username becomes undefined, as it is inaccessible from the route, and the app will not run. I can spit out "username" via the routes console.log, so assigning it there is not an issue, but as I am new to expressjs, I am unaware of how I should go about doing this. I have tried all I can think of and find from looking around the internet. Also, if there is a better way of doing this, or I am doing something wrong, please let me know. If I've left out any information, just throw in a comment and I'll try to address it.

• xml parameter for soap webservice request in iphone

- by Jayshree
Hello everybody. I want to send a soap request to a webservice method. Now i want to send the parameter as an xml input for that request. so plz can anybody give me an idea of how to do it in iphone? Right now i am sending the request in following way : NSString *soapMessage = @"\n" "<soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:xsd=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema\" xmlns:soap=\"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope\">\n" "<soap:Body>\n" "<GetCustomerInfoXML xmlns=\"http://qa2.alliancetek.com/phpwebservice\">\n" "
<customer>
</customer>
" "</GetCustomerInfoXML>" "</soap:Body>\n" "</soap:Envelope>"; NSLog(@"%@",soapMessage); NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://qa2.alliancetek.com/phpwebservice/index.php"]; NSMutableURLRequest *theRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; NSString *msgLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [soapMessage length]]; [theRequest addValue: @"text/xml; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [theRequest addValue: @"http://qa2.alliancetek.com/phpwebservice/index.php//GetCustomerInfoXML" forHTTPHeaderField:@"SOAPAction"]; [theRequest addValue: msgLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; [theRequest setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; [theRequest setHTTPBody: [soapMessage dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; But i want to send the parameters in xml format. so how do i do it????

• Job queueing and execute Mechanism

- by Calm Storm
In my webservice all method calls submits jobs to a queue. Basically these operations take long time to execute, so all these operations submit a Job to a queue and return a status saying "Submitted". Then the client keeps polling using another service method to check for the status of the job. Presently, what I do is create my own Queue, Job classes that are Serializable and persist these jobs (i.e, their serialized byte stream format) into the database. So an UpdateLogistics operation just queues up a "UpdateLogisticsJob" to the queue and returns. I have written my own JobExecutor which wakes up every N seconds, scans the database table for any existing jobs, and executes them. Note the jobs have to persisted because these jobs have to survive app-server crashes. This was done a long time ago, and I used bespoke classes for my Queues, Jobs, Executors etc. But now, I would like to know has someone done something similar before? In particular, Are there frameworks available for this ? Something in Spring/Apache etc Any framework that is easy to adapt/debug and plays well along with libraries like Spring will be great.

• Python "callable" attribute (pseudo-property)

- by mgilson
In python, I can alter the state of an instance by directly assigning to attributes, or by making method calls which alter the state of the attributes: foo.thing = 'baz' or: foo.thing('baz') Is there a nice way to create a class which would accept both of the above forms which scales to large numbers of attributes that behave this way? (Shortly, I'll show an example of an implementation that I don't particularly like.) If you're thinking that this is a stupid API, let me know, but perhaps a more concrete example is in order. Say I have a Document class. Document could have an attribute title. However, title may want to have some state as well (font,fontsize,justification,...), but the average user might be happy enough just setting the title to a string and being done with it ... One way to accomplish this would be to: class Title(object): def __init__(self,text,font='times',size=12): self.text = text self.font = font self.size = size def __call__(self,*text,**kwargs): if(text): self.text = text[0] for k,v in kwargs.items(): setattr(self,k,v) def __str__(self): return '
{text}
'.format(text=self.text,size=self.size,font=self.font) class Document(object): _special_attr = set(['title']) def __setattr__(self,k,v): if k in self._special_attr and hasattr(self,k): getattr(self,k)(v) else: object.__setattr__(self,k,v) def __init__(self,text="",title=""): self.title = Title(title) self.text = text def __str__(self): return str(self.title)+'
'+self.text+'
' Now I can use this as follows: doc = Document() doc.title = "Hello World" print (str(doc)) doc.title("Goodbye World",font="Helvetica") print (str(doc)) This implementation seems a little messy though (with __special_attr). Maybe that's because this is a messed up API. I'm not sure. Is there a better way to do this? Or did I leave the beaten path a little too far on this one? I realize I could use @property for this as well, but that wouldn't scale well at all if I had more than just one attribute which is to behave this way -- I'd need to write a getter and setter for each, yuck.

• Can I create a Google calendar for a user in a hosted domain using the admin credentials

- by user351013
I use the admin credentials for all of my interactions with the google api and I can retrieve\create\update\delete events from and for all of my hosted domain users. However, when I go to create a calendar for a hosted domain user, the calendar is created in the admins space. In the example below the GoogleUserName does NOT match the GoogleAccount. The postUri would look similar to : http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/[email protected]/owncalendars/full and the GoogleUserName is [email protected]. The api creates a calendar but it is in the admins space. CalendarService service = new CalendarService("Test"); service.setUserCredentials(GoogleUserName, GooglePassword); CalendarEntry calendar = new CalendarEntry(); calendar.TimeZone = "America/Chicago"; calendar.Title.Text = Title; calendar.Summary.Text = Description; calendar.Color = Color; calendar.Selected = true; calendar.Hidden = false; Uri postUri = new Uri(String.Format("http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/{0}/owncalendars/full", GoogleAccount)); CalendarEntry createdCalendar = (CalendarEntry)service.Insert(postUri, calendar); The documentation does specify to use the users credentials however the documentation is not specific to hosted domains a great deal of the time and as such I am always attempting trial and error when trying interactions. That I can use all of the CRUD on the user's events themselves using the admin credentials leaves me to believe that it might be possible.

• Determine if a directory is empty, delete it if it is and delete that directroy name from a separate list. C-shell

- by Kg123
I have a directory named STA. Within that directory are about 600 other directories that have the format hh:mm:ss (for example 00:01:34). Within each of these sub-directories should be three files. I also have a file, 'waveformlist', (contained within STA) which is a list of all of these sub-directories i.e.: 00:01:34 00:02:35 etc. A lot of the sub-directories do not contain these three files and are instead empty. I want to run a C-shell script to go through every sub directory and check if it is empty. If it is empty I want to delete that sub directory from the main directory STA, and also remove that sub-directory name from the list 'waveformlist'. Below is my script so far. It does not recognize when the sub-directory is empty or not and does not like the rm $dir line. Also, I do not know how to go and remove the sub-directory name from 'waveformlist'. #!/bin/csh echo "Enter name of station folder to apply filter to as 'STA' e.g. APZ:" set ans = $< cd $ans set c=0 foreach dir (*:*) if ("${c}" == 0) then echo "Empty directory:" $dir rm $dir else echo ${dir} "has files" endif end I hope I have been clear enough. Thank you.

• Manually extracting portions of strings contained in a list (parsing)

- by user1652011
I'm aware that there are modules that fully simplify this function, but saying that I am running from a base install of python (standard modules only), how would I extract the following: I have a list. This list is the contents, line by line, of a webpage. Here is a mock up list (unformatted) for informative purposes: link = "/scripts/playlists/1/" + a.id + "/0-5417069212.asx"; "Eastern Metro Area Fire" From the above string, I need the following extracted. The feedId (11065), which is incidentally a.id in the code above., "/scripts/playlists/1/" and "/0-5417069212.asx". Remembering that each of these lines is just contents from objects in a list, how would I go about extracting that data? Here is the full list: contents = urllib2.urlopen("http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=5586") Pseudo: from urllib2 import urlopen as getpage page_contents = getpage("http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=5586") feedID = % in (page_contents.search() for "/apps/audio/?feedId=%") titleID = % in (page_contents.search() for "%") playlistID = % in (page_contents.search() for "link = "%" + a.id + "*.asx";") asxID = * in (page_contents.search() for "link = "*" + a.id + "%.asx";") streamURL = "http://www.radioreference.com/" + playlistID + feedID + asxID + ".asx" I plan to format it as such that streamURL should = : http://www.radioreference.com/scripts/playlists/1/11065/0-5417067072.asx

• Error when feeding a mysql db with a python-parsed data

Any idea greatly appreciated...

• Output error in comparing characters from two strings

- by Andrew Martin
I'm stuck with my a piece of code I'm creating. My IDE is Eclipse and when I use its debugging feature, to trace what's happening on each line, it outputs perfectly. However, when I click the "run" project, it just outputs a blank screen: public static void compareInterests(Client[] clientDetails) { int interests = 0; for (int p = 0; p < numberOfClients; p++) { for (int q = 0; q < numberOfClients; q++) { String a = clientDetails[p].getClientInterests(); String b = clientDetails[q].getClientInterests(); int count = 0; while (count < a.length()) { if (a.charAt(count) == b.charAt(count)) interests++; count++; } if ((interests >= 3) && (clientDetails[p].getClientName() != clientDetails[q].getClientName())) System.out.print (clientDetails[p].getClientName() + " is compatible with " + clientDetails[q].getClientName()); interests = 0; } } } The code is designed to import an object array which contains information on a client's name and a client's interests. The client's interests are stored in the format "01010", where each 1 means they are interested in that activity, each 0 means they are not. My code compares each character of every client's string with every other client's string and outputs the results for all client's that don't have the same name and have three or more interests in common. When I run this code through Java's debugger, it outputs fine - but when I click run project or compile, I just get a blank screen. Any ideas?

• Fill lower matrix with vector by row, not column

- by mhermans
I am trying to read in a variance-covariance matrix written out by LISREL in the following format in a plain text, whitespace separated file: 0.23675E+01 0.86752E+00 0.28675E+01 -0.36190E+00 -0.36190E+00 0.25381E+01 -0.32571E+00 -0.32571E+00 0.84425E+00 0.25598E+01 -0.37680E+00 -0.37680E+00 0.53136E+00 0.47822E+00 0.21120E+01 -0.37680E+00 -0.37680E+00 0.53136E+00 0.47822E+00 0.91200E+00 0.21120E+01 This is actually a lower diagonal matrix (including diagonal): 0.23675E+01 0.86752E+00 0.28675E+01 -0.36190E+00 -0.36190E+00 0.25381E+01 -0.32571E+00 -0.32571E+00 0.84425E+00 0.25598E+01 -0.37680E+00 -0.37680E+00 0.53136E+00 0.47822E+00 0.21120E+01 -0.37680E+00 -0.37680E+00 0.53136E+00 0.47822E+00 0.91200E+00 0.21120E+01 I can read in the values correctly with scan() or read.table(fill=T). I am however not able to correctly store the read-in vector in a matrix. The following code S <- diag(6) S[lower.tri(S,diag=T)] <- d fills the lower matrix by column, while it should fill it by row. Using matrix() does allow for the option byrow=TRUE, but this will fill in the whole matrix, not just the lower half (with diagonal). Is it possible to have both: only fill the lower matrix (with diagonal) and do it by row? (separate issue I'm having: LISREL uses 'D+01' while R only recognises 'E+01' for scientific notation. Can you change this in R to accept also 'D'?)

• Scalable way to store files on server (PHP)?

- by Nathaniel Bennett
I'm creating my first web application - a really simplistic online text editor. What I need to do is find the best way to store text based files - a lot of them. These text files can be past 10,000 words in size (text words not computer words.) in essence I want the text documents to be limitless in size. I was thinking about storing the text files in my MySQL database - but thought there was a better way. Instead I'm planing on storing the text files in XML based format in a directory on my server. The rows in the database define the name of the xml based text file and the user who created the text along with basic metadata. An ID is generated using a V4 GUID generator , which gives the text an id and stores the text in the "/store" directory on my server. The text definitions in my server contain this id, and the android app I'm developing gets the contents of the text file by retrieving the text definition and then downloading the text to the local device using the GUID in the text definition. I just think this is a botch job? how can I improve this system? There has been cases of GUID colliding. I don't want this to happen. A "slim" possibility isn't good enough - I need to make sure there is absolutely no chance in a GUID collision. I was planning on checking the database for texts that have the same id before storing the text with a particular id - I however believe with over 20,000 pieces of text in my database this would take an long time and produce unneeded stress on the server. How can I make GUID safe? What happens when a GUID collides? The server backend is going to be written in PHP.

• C# object (2 numbers) performing 2 calculations

- by Chris
I have a couple questions about creating a object (2 values) and how to "call" it. Initializing the object with: Tweetal t1, t2, t3, t4, t5, t6; t1 = new Tweetal(); //a: 0 , b = 0 t2 = new Tweetal(-2); //a: -2, b = -2 t3 = new Tweetal(5, 17); //a: 5, b = 17 t4 = new Tweetal(t3); //a:5, b = 17 Console.Write("t1 = " + t1); Console.Write("\tt2 = " + t2); Console.Write("\tt3 = " + t3); Console.Write("\tt4 = " + t4); Console.WriteLine("\n"); t1 = t1.Som(t2); t4 = t2.Som(t2); //...... Now the 2 things i want to do with this object are taking the SUM and the SUMNumber: Sum: t4 = t2.sum(t3); (this would result in t4: a:3 (-2+5), b: 15(-2+17) SumNumber: t1 = t3.sum(8) (this would result in t1: a:13 , b:25) Next is my code for the object (in a separate class), but how exactly do i perform the simple sum calculation when i call up for example t2 etc... public class Tweetal: Object { private int a; private int b; public Tweetal() { //??? //Sum(...,...) } public Tweetal(int a) { //??? //Sum(...,...) } public Tweetal(int a, int b) { //??? } public Tweetal(Tweetal //....) // to call upton the object if i request t1, t2, t3,... insteed of a direct number value) { // ???? } public void Sum(int aValue, int bValue) { //a = ??? //b = ??? //Sum(...,...) } public void SumNumber(int aValue, int bValue) { } public override string ToString() { return string.Format("({0}, {1})", a, b); }/*ToString*/ }

• PHP-How to choose XML section based on an attribute?

- by Vincent
All, I have a config xml file in the following format: <configdata> <development> <siteTitle>You are doing Development</siteTitle> </development> <test extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are doing Testing</siteTitle> </test> <production extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are in Production</siteTitle> </production> </configdata> To read this config file to apply environment settings, currently I am using, the following code in index.php file: $appEnvironment = "production"; $config = new Zend_Config_Xml('/config/settings.xml', $appEnvironment ); To deploy this code on multiple environments, as user has to change index.php file. Instead of doing that, is it possible to maintain an attribute in the xml file, "say active=true". Based on which the Zend_Config_Xml will know which section of the xml file settings to read? Thanks

• Using map() on a _set in a template?

- by Stuart Grimshaw
I have two models like this: class KPI(models.Model): """KPI model to hold the basic info on a Key Performance Indicator""" title = models.CharField(blank=False, max_length=100) description = models.TextField(blank=True) target = models.FloatField(blank=False, null=False) group = models.ForeignKey(KpiGroup) subGroup = models.ForeignKey(KpiSubGroup, null=True) unit = models.TextField(blank=True) owner = models.ForeignKey(User) bt_measure = models.BooleanField(default=False) class KpiHistory(models.Model): """A historical log of previous KPI values.""" kpi = models.ForeignKey(KPI) measure = models.FloatField(blank=False, null=False) kpi_date = models.DateField() and I'm using RGraph to display the stats on internal wallboards, the handy thing is Python lists get output in a format that Javascript sees as an array, so by mapping all the values into a list like this: def f(x): return float(x.measure) stats = map(f, KpiHistory.objects.filter(kpi=1) then in the template I can simply use stats and the RGraph code sees it as an array which is exactly what I want. [87.0, 87.5, 88.5, 90] So my question is this, is there any way I can achieve the same effect using Django's _set functionality to keep the amount of data I'm passing into the template, up until now I've been passing in a single KPI object to be graphed but now I want to pass in a whole bunch so is there anything I can do with _set dumps the whole model out, but I just want the measure field. I can't see any of the built in template methods that will let me pull out just the single field I want. How have other people handled this situation?

• Parsing Windows Event Logs, is it possible?

- by xceph
Hello, I am doing a little research into the feasibility of a project I have in mind. It involves doing a little forensic work on images of hard drives, and I have been looking for information on how to analyze saved windows event log files. I do not require the ability to monitor current events, I simply want to be able to view events which have been created, and record the time and application/process which created those events. However I do not have much experience in the inner workings of the windows system specifics, and am wondering if this is possible? The plan is to create images of a hard drive, and then do the analysis on a second machine. Ideally this would be done in either Java or Python, as they are my most proficient languages. The main concerns I have are as follows: Is this information encrypted in anyway? Are there any existing API for parsing this data directly? Is there information available regarding the format in which these logs are stored, and how does it differ from windows versions? This must be possible from analyzing the drive itself, as ideally the installation of windows on the drive would not be running, (as it would be a mounted image on another system) The closest thing I could find in my searches is http://www.j-interop.org/ but that seems to be aimed at remote clients. Ideally nothing would have to be installed on the imaged drive. The other solution which seemed to also pop up is the JNI library, but that also seems to be more so in the area of monitoring a running system. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. :)

• How to search within an xml data set?

- by user187580
Hi, I have some xml data and I am trying to keyword search data. For example, if I search "some" for the following data it returns me the
and
. <resource>

Test Environment

Some description.
<type>classroom</type> </resource> <resource>

ABC Test Environment

Some another description.
<type>classroom</type> </resource> ... I had a look on on xpath e.g. $xml->xpath('//title') but looks for elements only. Basically what I need to do is to create a functionality where users can keyword search within the above data set which I receive from third party api in the above format. Any ideas how I can achieve this? using PHP/ Javascript etc. Thanks.

• Google calendar query returns at most 25 entries

- by Dean Hill
I'm trying to delete all calendar entries from today forward. I run a query then call getEntries() on the query result. getEntries() always returns 25 entries (or less if there are fewer than 25 entries on the calendar). Why aren't all the entries returned? I'm expecting about 80 entries. As a test, I tried running the query, deleting the 25 entries returned, running the query again, deleting again, etc. This works, but there must be a better way. Below is the Java code that only runs the query once. CalendarQuery myQuery = new CalendarQuery(feedUrl); DateFormat dfGoogle = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T00:00:00'"); Date dt = Calendar.getInstance().getTime(); myQuery.setMinimumStartTime(DateTime.parseDateTime(dfGoogle.format(dt))); // Make the end time far into the future so we delete everything myQuery.setMaximumStartTime(DateTime.parseDateTime("2099-12-31T23:59:59")); // Execute the query and get the response CalendarEventFeed resultFeed = service.query(myQuery, CalendarEventFeed.class); // !!! This returns 25 (or less if there are fewer than 25 entries on the calendar) !!! int test = resultFeed.getEntries().size(); // Delete all the entries returned by the query for (int j = 0; j < resultFeed.getEntries().size(); j++) { CalendarEventEntry entry = resultFeed.getEntries().get(j); entry.delete(); } PS: I've looked at the Data API Developer's Guide and the Google Data API Javadoc. These sites are okay, but not great. Does anyone know of additional Google API documentation?

• Cleaner method for list comprehension clean-up

- by Dan McGrath
This relates to my previous question: Converting from nested lists to a delimited string I have an external service that sends data to us in a delimited string format. It is lists of items, up to 3 levels deep. Level 1 is delimited by '|'. Level 2 is delimited by ';' and level 3 is delimited by ','. Each level or element can have 0 or more items. An simplified example is: a,b;c,d|e||f,g|h;; We have a function that converts this to nested lists which is how it is manipulated in Python. def dyn_to_lists(dyn): return [[[c for c in b.split(',')] for b in a.split(';')] for a in dyn.split('|')] For the example above, this function results in the following: >>> dyn = "a,b;c,d|e||f,g|h;;" >>> print (dyn_to_lists(dyn)) [[['a', 'b'], ['c', 'd']], 'e', , 'f', 'g', [['h'], [], []]] For lists, at any level, with only one item, we want it as a scalar rather than a 1 item list. For lists that are empty, we want them as just an empty string. I've came up with this function, which does work: def dyn_to_min_lists(dyn): def compress(x): return "" if len(x) == 0 else x if len(x) != 1 else x[0] return compress([compress([compress([item for item in mv.split(',')]) for mv in attr.split(';')]) for attr in dyn.split('|')]) Using this function and using the example above, it returns: [[['a', 'b'], ['c', 'd']], 'e', , ['f', 'g'], ['h', , ]] Being new to Python, I'm not confident this is the best way to do it. Are there any cleaner ways to handle this? This will potentially have large amounts of data passing through it, are there any more efficient/scalable ways to achieve this?
