  • Quit my job (for a new job). Old job wants me to be available for contracting. Steps to take?

    The company I am leaving has asked that I make myself available to answer questions and/or debug programs occasionally should the need arise. I'm not opposed to this. After searching google for some king of standard contract for this sort of thing, I didn't see any. Is there a standard contract for this sort of thing that you use? Are there any other steps I should take to ensure this kind of arrangement works smoothly?

    I need a booking system for a theoretical project website. It would be an in-house job (not outsourcing to a web service) but all google searches on the subject yield results for said web services. I'd want to be able to use the system as such: For each day, there is availability recorded and if available a user can book in using the website, which sets that date to unavailable. There are other complexities, but this is the basic system I am trying to achieve - what would allow me to implement something like this?

  • Free web "caching" services for a web service

    I have a web service on Google App engine whose data is updated on a daily basis. To minimize bandwidth utilization from mobile clients connecting to it, I'd like to instead have an intermediary site where the clients will be getting their data from, and minimizing hits to my service to once or twice a day only. Is there such a service I can use? I'd like to explore this "pull" option first, before considering "push" options such as publishing to a blog site or a free website host that doesn't have bandwidth caps.

  • Should I pass link juice to my pages on other websites that are already high PR domains?

    I am starting a new website for a local business and have entries listed for it on places like urbanspoon, yelp, google+ local, etc. I am thinking of listing these citation sites on my business website to encourage visitors of my site to go and review the business on those sites. If I dofollow I will pass link juice to my page on that site, but doesn't that mean that the very very little PR juice I have will be leached away from me? Is it better to nofollow them?

  • NUnit Random Module

    I've noticed something curious. When I attach the VS2010 debugger to the nunit.exe running process I see a loaded module with no path and a randomly generated filename. I tried attaching WinDBG to the exact same instance of NUnit.exe and the module is NOT listed in the module list. I also can't find anything with Google so I'm hoping someone here could help out.     My friend has recently bought a second-hand vehicle with an in-car computer and it's wired up to a touchscreen monitor on the dashboard (very impressive!). Now, I've helped him install Ubuntu on it today but we can't establish the make and model of the connected touchscreen monitor to try and source the drivers to make the touchscreen function work. Are there any Linux commands to work out the make / model of an attached monitor? I've tried Google which pointed me towards the /etc/X11 directory but have had no joy with that.

How can I synchronize this calendar and Thunderbird contacts with Android based smartphone (HTC Wildfire).     A google scholar search turns up numerous papers on testability, including models for computing testability, recommendations for how ones code can be more testable, etc. They all come with the assertion that more testable code is more stable, but I can't find any studies which actually demonstrate this. Can someone link me to a study evaluating the effect of testable code vs. quality? The closest I can find is Improving the Testability of Object Oriented Systems, which discusses the relationship between design flaws and testability.
