• How to connect to IIS and SQL Server Express on Windows 7 host from XP Mode

  Hello, I am running IIS and SQL Server 2008 Express on my Windows 7 host, and I'd like to be able to connect to them in XP Mode. My host machine is not a part of a domain, only a workgroup. So far, I've tried these instructions on connecting to SQL Server, but I'm not able to telnet to port 1433 on the host from XP Mode. I'm also not able to connect using a SQL client. I'm not able to connect to IIS on the host from XP Mode. Advice from those who have had success doing this would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon.

• Script or Utility to convert .nab to .csv without importing double entries in Outlook.

  Currently our environment is migrating from Groupwise 7 to Outlook 2003 and we have multiple users with mission critical outside contacts in their frequent contacts that will have to be imported in Outlook. Currently our only solution is to export GW contacts to a .nab, import to excel to scrub out the contacts in our own domain (to avoid double entry) and convert to .csv. This current solution will require a lot of man hours for hand holding because most of our users are not technically savvy AT ALL and are frankly too busy to do this themselves. Anyone know of any kind of tool or script to assist with this?

• Virtualmin Configuration

  I am trying to get Virtualmin setup and have reached a point where my noobish sysadmin skills aren't getting the job done. This is the message I get now when I try and refresh the configuration of Virtualmin. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server XXXXXX is not a fully qualified domain name. Sendmail is only accepting SMTP connections on the following ports : 127.0.0.1 port smtp. Email from other systems on the Internet will not be accepted. This can be changed in the Sendmail Mail Server module. Please advise what I need to do to get Sendmail configured properly. Thanks!

• Plesk hosting on MediaTemple DV

  Hi there, We have a MediaTemple dedicated virtual running Plesk. The problem we're having is that changing the permissions of files on the server to be writable by server owner (apache) is conflicting with the ability to upload and overwrite files via the FTP user. Here's an example, I upload a file from user "serverftp" and they own the new file in the httpdocs folder. I then change the permission of an image upload folder to the apache user to that I can upload images via a PHP script. Uploading or changing that folder with the serverftp user is then locked out. Speaking to tech support didn't get very far because there are some strange group permissions going on and it would involve me adding every single domain FTP user to the pcantl group or something similar. I'm wondering how I can easily change things so that I don't have this problem anymore.

  I'm looking at moving away from using my DIR-825 as a gateway and moving into a Linux box to do it all for me. I've found IPCop, but I'm looking for something with a little more power. My main goal is basically to be able to point different external domain names to different internal servers. backup.example.com - 192.168.0.5 home.example.com - 192.168.0.1 I host my DNS on my own dedicated server (windows), so I don't know much about doing the gateway thing in my home (my hosting provider does it all for me). Do any of you know of any free Linux Distros that can accomplish what I'm looking for?

• Wireless technology - which is better: more single radio APs or less dual radio APs?

  We are currently talking to vendors of wireless solutions for a wireless deployment in a university campus with some 5000 students. One vendor is offering us a Cisco solution with a WLC 5508 controller and 69 2x2 MIMO Dual-band/Dual radio APs (Aironet AP 1042 model) The other vendor is offering us an Aruba solution with a 3600 controller and 96 2x2 MIMO dual band BUT single radio APs (Aruba AP93) Both vendors are charging 82.000 US$ (support, 3y service contracts, switches and additional required options all included of course) The Aruba vendor is trying to convince me that 96 single radio APs will give us more connection/users/capacity then the 69 dual radio APs. I have my doubts about that and since it is my core competence-domain I wanted to ask here the opinion of people that have a more profound knowledge and experience in this area. When you talk to vendors it's often hard to get objective information. So try to answer only if you are sure and please mention it if you are affiliated with one of the vendors.   I installed SPF on my LAMP server with postfix. But for some reason, I get this error Received-SPF: softfail (mta1070.mail.re4.yahoo.com: domain of transitioning [email protected] does not designate 1.1.1.1 as permitted sender) I have two questions: 1) how do I trouble shoot this error 2) I've been looking through my configuration files in an attempt to change [email protected] to [email protected] because anotherurl.com has the correct SPF TXT records. Where do i go to change this? I tried editing myhostname under /etc/postfix/main.cf, but it didn't do anything.

  Need Help on the following questions. When a users login (on a computer in the network) is validated against AD what is/are the authentication method used? When a users login is validated in Windows NT environment (not AD) what is/are the authentication method used? If all user's account is on AD, is it possible to change the authentication mechanism only (or protocols) from AD to NT and vice versa (if possible)? If part/whole of question 3 is valid, where should one look to change these authentication methods ? What is the difference between AD and Windows-NT authentication ? • Postfix sends to original recipient name instead of alias name

  I have setup Postfix as part of my ISPConfig implementation. It should just forward all mail. Clients should be able to define a new alias and receive mail on a different e-mail address, using ISPConfig. Example: A mail sent to [email protected] on my ISPConfig server should be forwarded to external mailbox [email protected] This works fine but one important thing. When opening the mailbox for [email protected] I see the mail with the original sender name, and the original recipient name, i.e. [email protected] I have tried the forward function and the send copy function on a mailbox in ISPConfig. Both cases show the original recipient [email protected] instead of the final recipient [email protected], as it would when I manually forward an e-mail. Can this be achieved without having to maintain a list for each entry? Thanks for looking into this. M.

• Trouble accessing network drives in Windows 7

  Hi, Recently purchased a LaCiE network drive. Connected it to my router, configured it, added a user for myself. Installed the "Network Assistant" that came with it - no problem. Went to My Computer Network, found the network drive - was prompted for a login/password to see the contents, types \user and password (leading slash to get rid of DOMAIN) and accesses contents. There is one open share that I can access/mount without problem and there's another share with my user name as set-up via the network drive's web-based config. Double-clicked on that, prompted again. user/password doesn't work! It says I have no permissions but the user/pass combination is PERFECT. Some Windows Vista posts talk about a Local Security Policy menu - but that's nowhere to be found. Any ideas? (Windows 7 Professional BTW).

• Temp files created in every folder in Windows Server 2003

  So we have some folders which are shared over the AD Domain (Windows Server 2003). It was just noticed that in 2 of those folders (which contain only Excel and Word files), whenever a file is opened and closed, the temp file which was opened corresponding to that file still remains. Apparently, this's been going on for the past couple of years (which has led to an insane amount of temp files in each folder/subfolder under those shared folders). These shared folders are under the D:drive and not C: drive. There is only one group (containing 2 users) who access the said folders. I cannot understand if this has to do with the settings/permissions for the User/Group/Individual Client machine. For now, I have manually deleted all the temp files from each folder/subfolder. While this is not critical at the moment, I'd still like to clear this up. Also, it takes an additional fraction of a second to open folders that contains more than 10,000 temp files. • Cross-forest GPO between 2003 and 2008 Denied Beacuse it's "Inaccessible"

  I have a two-way, non-transitive trust between two forests and domains, "W2003" and "W2008". In W2008 I have a GPO with user settings linked to a machine OU containing machine "Server". The GPO applies to Authenticated Users. Cross-forest loopback processing is enabled in merge mode. When I log onto Server as User (whose account exists in the W2003 domain), the GPO does not apply. I run RSoP and see that the GPO is "Denied" for the reason "Inaccessible." The GPO name is not listed, but the GUID is. I have checked the file-level permissions on the DC to ensure that User has access to read the GPO's folder and all its contents. What is going on?

Everything works except for one big issue that basically makes the whole thing useless: Every single email sent by my server goes straight into spam. • Are there videocamera which geotag individual frames?

  I'm looking for a way to record live video with the specific requirement of having each frame georeferenced with GPS. Right now I'm using a normal video camera with a PDA+GPS that records the position, but it's difficult to sync both of these plus sometimes I've forgotten to turn the PDA+GPS or it has failed for some reason and all my video has been useless. Using google I found that about two years ago a company named Seero produced such video cameras and software, but apparently the domain doesn't exist any more and I only find references of other pages mentioning it. Does somebody know of any other product? I need to record this video in HD and have some way to export to Google Maps or other GIS software the positions of the frames in a way that I can click on the map and see what was being recorded in the video at that point. The precission of the GPS tracking is good enough as one position per second, intermediate frames of the video stream can be interpolated.

• Cannot connect to a VPN server - authentication failed with error code 691

  When trying to connect to a VPN server, I get the 691 error code on the client, which say: Error Description: 691: The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. Now, I validated that the username and password are correct, and tried to login with domain name and without. I also installed a certification to use with the IKEv2 security type. I also validated that the VPN server support security method. But I cannot login. In the server log I get this log: Network Policy Server denied access to a user. The user DomainName\UserName connected from IP address but failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. I know the SID of the user on the other computer, I'd like to know if and how I can grant permissions to files using the SID. I think the nginx are owned by root however which I'm assuming is the problem but which nginx file ownerships would I change?

  We have 2 XP pro VMs (Citrix) that both have problems with logout prompts appearing during logout. Users are closing the rdc before these appear: The Microsoft solution involves the creation of the KeepProgressLevel registry entry along with a value of 1 for "pause on errors." I have implemented this across the domain for this problem, yet these 2 VM's continue to have the prompts. Today, I experimented by changing the KeepProgressLevel option to 0. This is not one of the options given by MS, yet I stopped getting the prompts. Can anyone tell me what I've done by setting the value to 0? Have I basically turned off the feature as if the KeepProgressLevel entry is gone? If so, why no more prompts? I did notice during logoff that there is a red x and error message, yet no prompt.

I first tried it from the control panel of the website, then by modifying the .htaccess file with the following: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on rewritecond %{http_host} ^mydomain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] My site is based on wordpress, the first problem that occurred was that I could not access my backend anymore… when I was trying to log in the page would just reload itself and then there was an endless loop and the whole site was unaccessible. After removing these few lines, everything was fine.

  I have a Postfix server and using it with Outlook (POP/SMTP). I have different sender addresses for an account. Now I want to configure a relay for a specific sender address. For example I have postfix for my main domain domain1.com. Now I have a sender address that is domain2.com. For that sender address I want that postfix to relay mail to a second SMTP server. I think that should be possible without problems. But the problem is that I have to create a SSH tunnel to the second server to connect to the SMTP server. But I cant use a persistent SSH connection so I want to know if it is possible that postfix executes some script before relaying the mail to the second SMTP server. I already found some information for executing a script when incomming emails but I only want to establish the SSH tunnel before postfix relays the mail to the second SMTP server.
