• IE7 Jquery UI Sortable problem

  Hey guys, I'm using Jquery UI sortable in my current project to make boxes drag and drop-able into new columns. It works in all modern browsers apart from ie7, in which you can drag and drop, but when you drop, it completely ruins the content of the box you're dropping. I've sat and looked at this for ages and have no clue what the problem is. Do any of you have any idea? Here's a demo of what's going on. View it in ie7.

• Ajaxifying Struts2 application

  I just started working on an application that is build on the Struts2 framework. I am coming from a .Net application with lot of Ajax features like dimming the rest of the site and show dialog box 'please wait while X is happening' ...auto complete and such other ajax features. I searched google for Ajax plugins for Struts2 but did not find anything that looks like it would be worth it. Is my only option to use jquery and its plugins? Is this a pattern that some of you have seen also? Hopefully Java applications are not dead soon because of its inability to cope with ajax...compared to .Net

• href image link download on click

  Hey all, I generate normal links like: <a href="/path/to/image"><img src="/path/to/image" /></a> in a web app. When I click on the link, it displays the picture in a new page. If you want to save the picture, then you need to right click on it and select "save as" I don't want this behaviour, I would like to have a download box popping out when I click on the link, is that possible just with html or javascript? How? If not I guess I would have to write a download.php scrit and call it into the href with the file name as parameter...? Greetings! :)

• How to include other controls in a scrollbar?

  I want to create a scrollview with a zooming control and a button next to the scrollbar. Sort of like the "tile window" button in XCode (top right corner of the editor), it should be in the same box that usually is used by the scrollbar only. Do you have an idea of how to approach this? I was thinking to use an NSScrollView and set the scrollbars to a custom subclass of NSScroller which includes the other widgets. What kinds of buttons use the same style as the scrollbar?

  I've got a button that I use with jQueryUI somethink like this (simplified). <button id="mybutton">Play<button> <script> $("#mybutton").button().toggle( function(){ $(this).text('Stop'); }, function(){ $(this).text('Start'); }, ); </script> This code breaks the way the button looks because when making it into the button widget, there's a new span added inside the button. So I'm changing the button value like this now $(this).find('span').text('Stop'); This is hacky because I can't treat the button as a black box anymore and have to go inside. Is there a clean way to do this?

  I'm launching an EC2 instance, by invoking ec2-run-instances from simple a bash script, and want to perform further operations on that instance (e.g. associate elastic IP), for which I need the instance id. The command is something like ec2-run-instances ami-dd8ea5a9 -K pk.pem -C cert.pem --region eu-west-1 -t c1.medium -n 1, and its output: RESERVATION r-b6ea58c1 696664755663 default INSTANCE i-945af9e3 ami-dd8ea5b9 pending 0 c1.medium 2010-04-15T10:47:56+0000 eu-west-1a aki-b02a01c4 ari-39c2e94d In this example, i-945af9e3 is the id I'm after. So, I'd need a simple way to parse the id from what the command returns - how would you go about doing it? My AWK is a little rusty... Feel free to use any tool available on a typical Linux box. (If there's a way to get it directly using EC2-API-tools, all the better. But afaik there's no EC2 command to e.g. return the id of the most recently launched instance.)

  Alright, so I'm simply defining a combo box like so... JComboBox yearSelect = new JComboBox(); Now, I have not even added this to a panel or anything, I've just defined it. When I run the app, nothing displays.. when I comment out this line.. the app displays the other panels like I want it to.. is there something I'm doing wrong? Maybe I'm forgetting something that has to do with combo boxes? I think it may be something stupid that I'm missing.

• SharePoint web part not displaying for site readers

  Hello - I've built a custom SharePoint 2010 web part and deployed it to the home page of a publishing site. It's a very simple web part that just displays items from a SP list in a drop down list. The web part works fine if I'm logged in as a site owner or a member but not if I'm just a reader. The web part doesn't render at all to readers. I don't get any of the web part chrome or title, just nothing. I have other web parts (out-of-box ones) in the same zone that are displaying fine so it's not an issue of the whole zone not displaying. As a reader, I can still view the list directly so it doesn't appear to be a problem with list permissions. My web parts are being deployed as a farm solution, not sand-boxed and the assembly is being deployed to the GAC. I feel like I must be missing something simple here but I'm stumped. Help.

• Automated fake mailbox

  Hello, i'm about to start the development of a new automated-email application. The idea is that customers (or other external users) send emails to a mailbox and then an automated process will read them, extract their information and insert it into some database. It's a requirement that the emails have an standard format in order to be parsed (standard subject, etc.). The obvious thing to do would be to set up a process that periodically pools an ordinary mailbox, through pop-3 for example, processing the messages it finds. However, it would be for me much nicer to be able to process the emails as they arrive. I was wondering then, is there any way to set up a process that acts as a fake email-box? do you know about any open-source implementation of something like that I can extend? The application code itself is very fast, basically looking up data cached in memory and sending it to the client. What's the absolute lowest latency I can get for a network application server running on a linux box? This will be an internal app running on gigE with no authentication. Any language/framework considered, with a preference for C, C++, or Python. Likewise for protocol, although HTTP would be nice.

For example, similar to flickr has the option of uploading photos (or blogger.com has an option of rececing blog posts in predefined email addresses). The email address can be like "[email protected]", once this email address is created what ever the incoming mails will be processed based on certain scenarios. My questions are: What are the solutions available for having our own IMAP/POP3 Server in Windows? Exchange is not an option though, any commercial softwares will do. Is there any way we can have one real email box and that will be masked with alphanumeric email addresss to minimize the creation of email addresses.

• Creating colour schemes based on an existing scheme

  I have a colour scheme based around yellow, for warning messages on a website. It amounts to a slightly orange bordered box, with a pale yellow fill. The exact colours are: #FED626 (border) #FFF7C0 (fill) I want to know if it's possible to convert this scheme mathematically or algorithmically somehow, to come up with a blue version where the border is the "same amount" of blue as this one is yellow. Is this possible, or do I just "pin the tail on the donkey" on a colour pallet to get roughly the right one? I ask, because I'd quite like to be able to calculate this on the fly, to perhaps implement something in .less. To give you an idea, I tried swopping the red and blue values on those two, and came up with this: #26D6FE (border) #C0F7FF (fill) That wasn't too hard, but think about if I wanted a pink colour scheme... :)

One of these fields is the phone number....now in the database it's stored in the format XXX-XXX-XXX. • Using my cell phone as remote control for PC via Bluetooth/Java

  I've got a PC and a Samsung Eternity (that's a cell phone). I'd like to use my Eternity as remote control for my PC. Here's how I think I have to go about it: Write a desktop app (server) that accepts a connection from my cell. Write an app (client) for my cell through which I can establish a connection to the server and send commands to it. The server then executes the commands (e.g. adjust volume, pause/resume movie) Thoughts on that? Spot on or way off? Regarding the Eternity: What's a good way to get started with that? I'm guessing that I'll have to get the SDK. Does anyone have a good place to start/tutorial for that? Regarding the server: Does Java come with Bluetooth connectivity straight out of the box or do I need to fetch a library for that from somewhere? If so, from where? All help is much appreciated :)

  I installed validation_reflection as a gem and out of the box it picked up on my validates_presence_of validations. But it is not picking up on any of the other default rails validations such as validates_format_of. I know from the documentation that i am supposed to add something like: config.reflected_validations << :validates_format_of to my config/plugins/validation_reflection.rb file (which didn't exist initially). I did this but nothing changed (i restarted the web server in between). I am not sure if it just isn't picking up on my file and loading validation_reflection.rb or if i have done something wrong. Anyone have any insights?
