• VEMap Pan triggers VEMap.onclick

  I'm using the Virtual Earth (or Bing!...) SDK and need to attach an event when someone clicks the map. Unfortunately panning the map also triggers the onclick event. • null object reference in ScrollPane/endDrag() when scrollDrag=true

  Hello there. In my flash application, I've got multiple windows which use Scrollpanes. The scrollDrag property is set to true on these because I want that functionality. If I close (within my application) one of these 'windows' and open another, I seem to get a whole lot of this error showing up in my logs: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.containers::ScrollPane/endDrag() Sometimes I get thousands of these, which I'm guessing is probably slowing my app down a bit, but otherwise is not causing a problem. Looking through the adobe code for scrollpane, endDrag is really simple: protected function endDrag(event:MouseEvent):void { stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, doDrag); } The stage var is the only thing that could be null here. The only thing I can think to do is set scrollDrag=false before the window in my application closes so that nothing is listening for the event. Any other suggestions?

• How do I properly handle a faulted WCF connection?

  In my client program, there is a WCF connection that is opened at startup and supposedly stays connected til shutdown. However, there is a chance that the server closes due to unforeseeable circumstances (imagine someone pulling the cable). Since the client uses a lot of contract methods in a lot of places, I don't want to add a try/catch on every method call. I've got 2 ideas for handling this issue: Create a method that takes a delegate and executes the delegate inside a try/catch and returns an Exception in case of a known exception, or null else. The caller has to deal with nun-null results. Listen to the Faulted event of the underlying CommunicationObject. But I don't see how I could handle the event except for displaying some error message and shutting down. Are there some best practices for faulted WCF connection that exist for app lifetime?

• How to select items from XmlList

  My Flash designer is reading an XML stream I'm sending back to the browser (I'm a C# dev). We have this working fine. He is then selecting into an XMLList where a element has its id a certain value i.e. . This is also working just fine. In this XmlList, are Events, that look a little something like this: event startdate enddate end event I don't know how to use the formatting here - but each of those items is an element. startdate would have a value such as 04/02/2010 and enddate 6/30/2010. Now, from this XmlList I do have of Events, I need to select all Events where a new variable myDate, falls in between the startdate and enddate. I'm not sure how to do this in AS3 - can anyone help me? Thank you very much in advance!

• Jquery datePicker

  I have slight issue with the jquery datepicker in that it displays ABOVE the target box. This is due to the way my page is set up. I found the issue with CSS in my page via firebug, unfortunately it conflicts with about 20 elements. Next I tried hooking into the "beforeShow event" which works but then after the event fires it just recalculates and puts it where ever it wants. beforeShow: function() { $('#ui-datepicker-div').show(); var offset = $('#ui-datepicker-div').offset(); $('#ui-datepicker-div').css({ top: (offset.top + 222) + 'px' }) } Does anyone else have any ideas how how I can reposition this? • Problem with StandardOutput stream in async mode.

  Hi everyone. I have a program that launches command line processes in async mode, using BeginOutputReadLine. My problem is that the .Exited event is triggered when there is still some .OutputDataReceived events being triggered. What I do in my .Exited event must happen only once all my .OutputDataReceived events are done, or I'll be missing some output. I looked in the Process class to see if anything could be useful to me, as to wait for the stream to be empty, but all I find is for sync mode only. Can any of you help? Thanx.

• Qt: Writing plugins for other applications

  I am writing a plugin for another application. I want to support the plugin on multiple platforms, so I am strongly considering using Qt. The plugin needs to be able to show some basic GUI. The plugin interface does not in any way handle GUI - it is just a simple DLL/shared library specified with a C-header file. Can I use Qt inside such a shared library? The calling application might or might not be using Qt itself. Any hints on what to do? Do I need to run a QApplication event-loop in a separate thread? Or can I just call the event-loop myself while waiting for input? (I only need modal dialogs).

  I have to invoke a method present in a view controller who's reference is available in the view. When I try to call the method like any other method, for some reason, iPhone just ignores the call. Can somebody explain as to why this happens and also how can I go about invoking this method? • How to give highest priority to events generated from main thread than those generated from secondar

  I have a c++ application written in wxWidgets, which has a main thread (GUI) and a working thread (calculations). The working thread executes commands requested by the main thread and communicates the result to the main thread posting an event after every step of the processing. The problem is that when the working thread is sending many events consecutively, the gui requests made by the user (i.e. interrupt the processing clicking a button) won't be processed by the event handler until the working thread has finished. This is actually happening on OSX, on Windows it works perfectly. I've tried to wxThread::SetPriority and wxThread::Yield but nothing changes. It is working if I put wxThread::Sleep in the working thread, but this slows down very much the processing.

• How can I pass data from an aspx page to an ascx modal popup?

  I'm fairly new to ASP.NET and trying to learn how things are done. I come from a C# background so the code-behind portion is easy, but thinking like a web developer is unfamiliar. I have an aspx page that contains a grid of checkboxes. I have a button that is coded via a Button_Click event to collect a list of which rows are checked and create a session variable out of that list. The same button is referenced (via TargetControlID) by my ascx page's ModalPopupExtender which controls the panel on the ascx page. When the button is clicked, the modal popup opens but the Button_Click event is never fired, so the modal doesn't get its session data. Since the two pages are separate, I can't call the ModalPopupExtender from the aspx.cs code, I can't reach the list of checkboxes from the ascx.cs code, and I don't see a way to populate my session variable and then programmatically activate some other hidden button or control which will then open my modal popup. Any thoughts?

  I want to change the variable value based on the number of clicks. So if you click the button once, the cCount should equal 1 and twice it should equal 2. Right now all I'm returning for the value is 0, no matter the amount of clicks.   Hi everybody, I was thinking about using memcached to store sessions instead of mySQL, which seemed like a good idea, at first. When it comes to the failover part of utilizing memcached servers, It's a bit worrying that my sessions will stop working if the memcached would go offline. It will certainly affect my users. There's a few techniques that we already utilize to reduce failover, including having a pool of servers available to compensate in the event of downtime, utilizing sharding/consistent hashing across the server pool and so on. We would also do some sort of graceful degradation that tells the users that something have gone wrong and they are welcome to login again, in the event of them being kicked out due to memcached server failover. So how does people generally deal with these issues when storing sessions on memcached servers?

• JPanel Layout Image Cutoff

  I am adding images to a JPanel but the images are getting cut off. I was originally trying BorderLayout but that only worked for one image and adding others added image cut-off. So I switched to other layouts and the best and closest I could get was BoxLayout however that adds a very large cut-off which is not acceptable either. So basically; How can I add images (from a custom JComponent) to a custom JPanel without bad effects such as the one present in the code. • How do you implement file drag-and-drop upload in Google Chrome?

  I've found several tutorials online about implementing file drag/drop with Firefox 3.6 (they involve using a FileReader object to get the file binary data). However, I cannot create a FileReader object in Chrome on Windows or Mac. Does anyone know what the API is to read and manipulate data from a drag-and-dropped file in Chrome? If I can get the binary data of the file, I already have the rest of the code to perform the upload. Note: I've also tried using the getAsBinary() function call on the file object of the drag event (event.dataTransfer.file) but I believe that is a Mozilla-specific function and not implemented in Chrome. Also, I'm not interested in a solution using google gears or one that requires a user to select files from a dialog. I'm specifically trying to implement a drag-and-drop file upload.

  I have a UISplitViewController setup with a custom view added as a subview of the view (UILayoutContainerView) of split view controller. I am trying to forward touch events from my custom view controller to the master and detail views, but the following (which was suggested here on another thread) seems to have no effect: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; // Do something [self.nextResponder touchesBegan:touches withEvent:event]; } (I couldn't get this formatted properly) As a result my custom view controller locks the events and all the UI underneath never has a chance to do anything.
