• PHP: tips/resources/patterns for learning to implement a basic ORM

  I've seen various MVC frameworks as well as standalone ORM frameworks for PHP, as well as other ORM questions here; however, most of the questions ask for existing frameworks to get started with, which is not what I'm looking for. (I have also read this SO question but I'm not sure what to make of it, and the answers are vague.) Instead, I figured I'd learn best by getting my hands dirty and actually writing my own ORM, even a simple one. Except I don't really know how to get started, especially since the code I see in other ORMs is so complicated. With my PHP 5.2.x (this is important) MVC framework I have a basic custom database abstraction layer, that has: Very simple methods like connect($host, $user, $pass, $base), query($sql, $binds), etc Subclasses for each DBMS that it supports A class (and respective subclasses) to represent SQL result sets But does not have: Active Record functionality, which I assume is an ORM thing (correct me if I'm wrong) I've read up a little about ORM, and from my understanding they provide a means to further abstract data models from the database itself by representing data as nothing more than PHP-based classes/objects; again, correct me if I am wrong or have missed out in any way. Still, I'd like some simple tips from anyone else who's dabbled more or less with ORM frameworks. Is there anything else I need to take note of, simple example code for me to refer to, or resources I can read? Thanks a lot in advance!

• SQL placeholder in WHERE IN issue, inserted strings fail.

  As part of my jobs, I need to writes SQL queries to connect to our PI database. To generate a query, I need to pass an array of tags (essentially primary keys), but these have to be inserted as strings. As this will be a modular query and used for multiple tags, a placeholder is being used. The query relies upon the use of the WHERE IN statement, which is where the placeholder is, like below: SELECT SUM(value * 5/1000) as "Hourly Flow [kL]" from piarchive..pitotal WHERE tag IN (?) AND time between ? and ? and timestep = '1d' and calcbasis = 'Eventweighted' and value <> '' The issue is the format in which the tags are to be passed in as. If I add them directly into the query (for testing), they go in the format (these are example numbers): '000000012','00000032','005050236','4560236' and the query looks like: SELECT SUM(value * 5/1000) as "Hourly Flow [kL]" from piarchive..pitotal WHERE tag IN ('000000012','00000032','005050236','4560236') AND time between ? and ? and timestep = '1d' and calcbasis = 'Eventweighted' and value <> '' which works. If I try and add the same tags into the placeholder, the query fails. If I only add 1 tag, with no quotes (using the placeholder), the query works. Why is this happening? Is there anyway around it?

  I am working on an Asset Database problem using PHP / MySQL. In this script I would like to search my assets by an asset id and have it return all related fields. First I query the database asset table and find the asset's type. • How to make a request from an android app that can enter a Spring Security secured webservice method

  I have a Spring Security (form based authentication) web app running CXF JAX-RS webservices and I am trying to connect to this webservice from an Android app that can be authenticated on a per user basis. Currently, when I add an @Secured annotation to my webservice method all requests to this method are denied. I have tried to pass in credentials of a valid user/password (that currently exists in the Spring Security based web app and can log in to the web app successfully) from the android call but the request still fails to enter this method when the @Secured annotation is present. The SecurityContext parameter returns null when calling getUserPrincipal(). How can I make a request from an android app that can enter a Spring Security secured webservice method? • Mysqli connection trying with different users

  I'm trying to create a PHP class extending mysqli that is capable of connecting with another user if the connection fails. If the first user fails to connect, I try with the next one. The problem here is with $this->connect_errno. It says it cannot find Mysqli. Is there any solution to this or should I create a Factory class?

• Where to post code for open source usage?

  I've been working for a few weeks now with the Google Maps API v3, and have done a good bit of development for the map I've been creating. Some of the things I've done have had to be done to add usability where there previously was not any, at least not that I could find online. Essentially, I made a list of what had to be done, searched all over the web for the ways to do what I needed, and found that some were not(at the time) possible(in the "grab an example off the web" sense). Thus, in my working on this map, I have created a number of very useful tools, which I would like to share with the development community. Is there anywhere I could use as a hub, apart from my portfolio ( http://dougglover.com ), to allow people to view and recycle my work? I know how hard it can be to need to do something, and be unable to find the solution elsewhere, and I don't think that if something has been done before, it should necessarily need to be written again and again. Hence open source code, right? Firstly, I was considering coming on here and asking a question, and then just answering it. Problem there is I assume that would just look like a big reputation grab. If not, please let me know and I'll go ahead and do that so people here can see it. Other suggestions appreciated. Some stuff I've made: A (new and improved) LatLng generator Works quicker, generates LatLng based on position of a draggable marker Allows searching for an address to place the marker on/near the desired location(much better than having to scroll to your location all the way from Siberia) Since it's a draggable marker, double-clicking zooms in, instead of creating a new LatLng marker like the one I was originally using The ability to create entirely custom "Smart Paths" Plot LatLng points on the map which connect to each other just like they do using the actual Google Maps Using Dijkstra's algorithm with Javascript, the routing is intelligent and always gives the shortest possible route, using the points provided Simple, easy to read multi-dimensional array system allows for easily adding new points to the grid Any suggestions, etc. appreciated.

• How to rdc to a particular machine that is member of a TS Farm?

  I created a Terminal Services farm comprising of 3 TS hosts (say, TS1, TS2 and TS3) running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, a TS Connection broker and a TS Gateway for the purpose of hosting a windows application as a TS RemoteApp. The setup works just fine. Now, I want to do some further configuration changes on a particular TS host, say TS2 and not on any other TS host. I try to rdc to TS2 but I find myself getting connected to a randomly chosen TS host (sometimes TS1, sometimes TS2, and at other times, TS3). I think rdc connection is also going via the Connection Broker that is forwarding me to a TS host it decides is best. Is there a way I can deterministically connect to a particular TS host using rdc? I don't have option to login locally on a TS host as the entire setup is hosted in a remote data center. I think this is a very common scenario and must have a straight forward solution. It could be as easy as doing rdc to Connection Broker server and disabling it for a while, but I don't know how to do that too. Any help will be highly appreciated.

• Bidirectional/Loopback UDP in .net

  I've got an app that needs to transmit and receive on the same port. This can happen in two cases: Where the PC is talking to a piece of remote hardware. It "replies to sender", so the datagrams come back in to my PC via the sending port. Where the PC is talking to itself (loopback mode) for testing and demoing (a test app feeds fake data into our main app via UDP). This only seems to fail when trying to achieve loopback. The only way I can get it working is to ensure that the receiver is set up first - something I cannot guarantee. Can anyone help narrow down my search by suggesting a "correct" way to implement the UdpClient(s) to handle the above situations reliably? (The only solution that I've found to work reliably with the remote hardware is to use a single UdpClient in a bidirectional manner, although I'm working with legacy code that may be influencing that finding. I've tried using two UdpClients, but they step on each others toes - In some cases, once one client is started up, the other client cannot connect. With ExclusiveAddressUse/ReuseAddress set up to allow port sharing, I can almost get it to work, apart from the receiver having to start first)

• Error setting env thru subprocess.call to run a python script on a remote linux machine

  I am running a python script on a windows machine to invoke another python script on a remote linux machine. I am using subprocess.call with ssh to do this, like below: subprocess.call('ssh -i <identify file> username@hostname python <script_on_linux_machine>') and this works fine. However, if I want to set some environment variables, like below: subprocess.call('ssh -i <identify file> username@hostname python <script_on_linux_machine>', env={key1:value1}) it fails. I get the following error: ssh_connect: getnameinfo failed ssh: connect to host <hostname> port 22: Operation not permitted 255 I've tried splitting the ssh commands into list and passing. Didn't help. I've tried to run other 'local'(windows) commands thru subprocess.call() and tried setting the env. It works fine. I've tried to run other commands(such as ls) on the remote linux machine. Again, subprocess.call() works fine, as long as I don't try to set the environment. What am I doing wrong? Would I be able to set the environment for a python script on a remote machine? Any help will be appreciated.

• iPhone: AppStore InAppPurchase Connects in Simulator but Not on Device

• ExecutorService memory leak on exception

  I am having a hard time tracking this down since the profiler keeps crashing (hotspot error). Before I go too deep into figuring it out I'd like to know if I really have a problem or not :-) I have a few thread pools created via: Executors.newFixedThreadPool(10); The threads connect to different web sites and, on occasion, I get connection refused and wind up throwing an exception. When I later on call Future.get() to get the result it will then catch the ExecutionException that wraps the exception that was thrown when the connection could not be made. The program uses a fairly constant amount of memory up until the point in time that the exceptions get thrown (they tend to happen in batches when a particular site is overloaded). After that point the memory again remains constant but at a higher level. So my question is along the lines of is the memory behaviour (reported by "top" on Unix) expected because the exceptions just triggered something or do I probably have an actual leak that I'll need to track down? Additionally when Future.get() throws an exception is there anything else I need to do besides catch the exception (such as call Future.cancel() on it)?

  Hey guys, I've been trying to understand the documentation and find an example, but I'm at a loss. This is just a submit form within the cart for updating the quantity. However, the updated quantity is not getting saved to the database -- it always makes the quantity 0. Please help.   This is a form which retrieves data from db and displays them in table. At the beginning of each row there will be a check box. If there are 10 rows fetched, I ii check 5 rows and insert them in to diff db but here when, I click drop down box data is getting in to db automatically,bcoz I use onchange event. Any alternative to prevent this to happen. Data should be inserted only when, I click submit button. • rename an html page according to an image within it

  Hi, firstly I'll give some background regarding the situation. I have a website containing approximately 56k pages each page contain a mapped sketch of a machine part. this machine part is made out of smaller parts which are outlined in the image and hold a certain number. when you hover over the numbers a box with the part item code shows up. I order parts according to this item codes but recently a lot of the items codes have changed, therefore I am looking for a solution. now I own a database with data on all the 56k parts and I want to link the relevant webpage to each record according to the name of the part(a column in my database), the problem is that the webpages names has no logic name that could connect with the part name in any way but the image that is displayed in the page has the exact name of the part. I want to rename all the html files I has according to the Images displayed within them. how can I achieve that without renaming all the 56k pages manually? additionally how can I add the links to all the 56k pages automatically to my database after all the above is done? • Facebook Like Meta Tags not showing Images

  I have implemented the Facebook Like button on all our pages and it works properly by posting to Facebook with the correct meta tags. However, the images do not show in Facebook. The image meta tags show up properly when I use the Facebook Linter, but they don't show on someone's facebook page where the Like is posted on their wall. Also, is there any way to have the info recache more often? The tags take forever to update. Our site is built with CakePHP.   I'm using LINQ to SQL to connect my database to my home page. I created my datacontext (named businessModel.dbml) In it I have two tables named Category and Business.   I'm attempting to take Excel 2003 and connect it to SQL Server 2000 to run a few dynamicly generated SQL Queries which ultimately filling certain cells. I'm attempting to do this via VBA via ADO (I've tried 2.8 to 2.0) but I'm getting an error while setting the ActiveConnection variable which is inside the ADODB.Connection object. I need to resolve this pretty quick... Requested operation requires an OLE DB Session object, which is not supported by the current provider. I'm honestly not sure what this error means and right now I don't care. How can get this connection to succeed so that I can run my queries?   Let's say I want to model a cinema. The cinema will have a couple of rooms(for example, 7), where the movies are being played. I wonder how should I design the domain model for this scenario. Should the Cinema class concept concept have a direct association with the 7 rooms? Should the Cinema class concept have an association with a catalog of the 7 rooms? Why? I am having some trouble understanding why in some places I see the first case and in some others I see something like the second case. If instead of rooms, I wanted to depict the relationship between Cinema and: Tickets to sell (today). Tickets already sold (today) Customers in the Cinema database The set of hours at which there are movies playing in a given room in the cinema. The set of places you can sit at in a room in the cinema. Should I use catalogs, should I connect them directly to the Cinema concept with a multiplicity of * in the target? Thanks
