• Commercial version of Freenet6

  I've been using Freenet6 from gogoNET to make my mobile device publicly accessible via IPv6. It works quite well except that the service is not as stable because it's non-commercial usage only as their servers are hosted for free by different operators around the world. Apparently gogoNET sells hardware called gogoSERVER which allows one to build a service similar to Freenet6. I've inquired their sales team, but they were unable to tell me which companies have a commercial, production-quality implementation of Freenet6. Specifically I'm looking for the following features in IPv6 service provider: Client-based IPv6 connectivity for mobile devices: gogoCLIENT (gw6c) is ideal for mobile devices since it allows a device to go online regardless of the device's location. API for account maintenance: so that we can create device accounts from our software Static IPv6 address: (or maybe I mean IPv4 address) by this I mean, just like gogoNET6 service (username.broker.freenet6.net), we want to provide our users with a permanent URL for their device Any info on commercial IPv6 service provider utilizing gogoSERVER is appreciated.   I have BSOD with 0x000000f4 code. It appears when system is not loaded at all. No new hardware where intalled. Only nvidia drivers where updated 3 days ago and they are up to date for now(version 296.10). • MediaPortal crash when scanning my TV Channels

  Hello, I tried installing MediaPortal (http://www.team-mediaportal.com) on my old system. I installed & tried both beta & stable releases: Here's the old system specs: Windows XP SP3; 512mb DDR; 80GB IDE; K-World PVR-TV7131 Analog TV-Tuner; Inno3d FX5500 128mb 64bit; When scanning through the TV-Server, it crashes. I don't know if the incompatibility comes from the hardware or the OS, but my TV Tuner's own Media center app works well. For now, that's what im using. Anyone here familiar with MediaPortal? Thanks!

• Installing VMware ESXi 4.0 on Dell 1950: Cannot open vmkboot.gz

  I am trying to install VMware ESXi 4.0.0 U1 on a Dell 1950 server via a bootable CD-ROM. I keep getting this error right at the start: Cannot open vmkboot.gz I checked that the CD-ROM drive is not to blame by installing Debian Etch using that drive. I tried several different versions of ESXi (3.5, 3.5 Dell edition, 4.0 Dell edition) and they all give me an error at the same place. I also tried installing from a USB "thumb" drive but got the same error. I checked with the VMware HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) and the Dell 1950 is listed as being compatible. Here are some server details: Two 1.6 GHz Xeon 5110 CPUs (ID: 06-0F-B) BIOS version 2.2.6 Any ideas on what might be the issue?

• Automating and deploying new linux servers

  I'm in the process of developing a method to automate new virtual machines into my environment. 90% of our machines are virtual but the process is similar for both physical and vmware based images. What I do now is I use cobbler to install the base OS. The kickstart script has post hooks to modify the yum repo and installs puppet and func. Once the servers are running, I manually add them into nagios and sign the certificate via the puppetmaster. I've since migrated most of the resources to use mysql as the backend. I wanted to see what others are doing and my goal for 2011 is to have puppet inventory the hardware into mysql, and somehow i'll script a python script to have nagios grab the info and automatically add it for monitoring purposes. It's kind of tedious to have to add each new server into nagios, puppet's dashboard, munin, etc...

• USB driver problems (Windows 8.1)

  Every time I turn on my laptop the USB ports don't work and the drivers have an error. In order to fix this I'm forced to start the Device Manager, uninstall all the USB drivers, open the Control Panel, click Find and fix problems (under System and Security), click Configure a device (under Hardware and Sound) and then when that window pops up just hit Next until I can see my USB drivers reinstalled and working in the Device Manager window under Universal Serial Bus controllers. I found this way to fix it but I would like a permanent solution so that I don't have to do this every time I turn on the machine. Any ideas? When I bought the machine it had Window 7 installed but I later upgraded it to Windows 8.0 and then 8.1 after that.

  i have gotten the error in the microsoft KB article 975778 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975778/en-us) i was able to get onto my computer luckily, but when i went on to get the hotfix that is stated in the article, it gave me this error when i ran it: "the update is not applicable to your computer." is there any way of getting the disk check error to stop, or to get this fix to work. i will answer any questions on hardware if you post the questions in the comments. answers to questions this is the a full version that i got from ASUS as an upgrade disk from windows vista (hopefully more specific than you were asking)

• Can I upgrade an Asus M51Sn laptop to 2x4GB of RAM? (DDR2)

  My Asus M51Sn has 2 RAM slots which currently have 1x1GB + 1x2GB DDR2-800 SODimm RAM modules installed. I've found out that 4GB DDR2 SODimm modules do exist, though they are impossible to find in local stores nere here, but I've found them in online stores like these: http://www.pccomponentes.com/g_skill_ddr2_800_pc2_6400_4gb_so_dimm.html They seem to meet the specification, so can I replace both my current modules with 2x4GB modules, and reach a total of 8GB? Or should I worry about some limit (e.g. 4GB max or 2GB per slot) imposed by the matherboard, chipset or whatever? (I currently use Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit, so I plan to use the pae kernel, which supposedly supports 4GB ram on a 32bit system; or I may consider switching tu 64bit ubuntu; the question is about hardware limitations, not OS limitations).

• Latitude E6410 - Screen flickering on Windows 8

  On Windows 8, my Latitude E6410 screen (1440x900 - 60Hz - NVidia NVS3100M) is flickering. If I turn off the laptop for 30 minutes and turn it back on, there's no flickering but it eventually start again after 10-15 minutes. The flickering seems more present at the top and bottom of the screen. I already updated the graphic card drivers, bios, etc. Nothing seems to fix the issue. To prove that it isn't a hardware issue, when I reinstalled Windows 7 I couldn't reproduce the issue. Any idea what could cause this?

• ATI / AMD HIS HD 7870 Graphics card fan speed below 16% / 20% 26%

  I bought a AMD / ATI HIS HD 7870 to replace my old HD 4870. I noticed that the fan speed does not scale with the temperature: The fan speed does not get below 28% (read from catalyst / automatic fan speed) If I manually change it in the catalyst to 20% then it has the same speed than 28% : about 900-1000 rpm. With HIS iTurbo i manually can change the fan speed below 20%. But I noticed that changing the fan speed below 16% results in 3200 rpm. This is really stupid and annoying since my PC is a ultra silent PC and all fans are running with about 500 rpm when the PC is idle (windows / musik movies, etc.) Is there any way to change the fan speed to a reasonable speed like 500 rpm by software or hardware adapters (I really don't like to put a poti between the 12V line)

  I have a Mac, which runs Mac OS X 10.6 or Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows XP (Multiboot). Solution can be for any of the systems, whatever works better. I have two ISPs, one can be accessed via Wi-Fi, one can be accessed via LAN. In Mac OS X I can define the priority, which network to choose first. But what I wish to do is to load-balance with both networks. I don't want to buy extra hardware. I have some unused Wi-Fi routers if this would help. Compiling and configuring programms in Linux is no problem for me.

• Going from dev to sysadmin advice [on hold]

  I've seen the threads on here about transitions to/from sysadmin. My story is I am a dev (technology is irrelevant), but in learning that technology it required a lot of server infrastructure. In the last few years, I thus had to setup a lot of infrastructure (AD, DNS, SQL etc) to learn said technology. I've noticed that I've enjoyed doing sysadmin and got quite good at it, and find it even engrossing (e.g. I am amazed by how decievingly complicated AD is, under the hood). I'm now thinking of moving into IT infrastructure after about 4 years in various dev (.NET) roles. Any advice? My concern is that I don't have any experience with hardware load balancers and firewalls like F5 etc, which some jobs require. How could I compensate for that? Also, I'm rubbish with my hands, would this be a factor? (i.e. maintaining physical kit)? Thanks

• Windows XP waits for usb drive on almost every operation.

  Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Windows XP operating system, particularly with the USB device that is plugged in - 1TB WD My Book external drive. I haven't found any information about such behaviour when searching in Internet, so I have to ask You. The problem is: when I am using computer, especially during work (programming), when I try to access any information on a hard disk ("internal" one), Windows seems to "consult" it with the external drive. For example, when I open file selection dialog window, if I try to change directory, system activates external drive, reads something (I hear the disk's operational noise) and after some seconds of such pause it makes the operations I requested. There are many situations in which I can reproduce this behavior - opening My Computer, shutting down system, opening partition folder from My Computer - every operation involves the usage of external drive. Please understand me properly - this is not something that happens EVERY time, but at least "many" times a day. What causes such behavior and how can I "turn off" external drive when it's not needed? • Guaranteeing ACID properties for InnoDB databases.

  What steps must one take to ensure that an otherwise defaultly-configured InnoDB server is truly ACID compliant? The InnoDB configuration page mentions that the hardware itself must be configured to honor fsync calls, i.e. disable any write-back caches. This page mentions some other concerns, but may be conflating the binary log and the InnoDB log, and may be a bit out of date regarding default settings for MySQL 5.x. Upon reading the binary log document page it would seem that the "sync_binlog=1" setting is not required for ACID properties in general, only for ACID properties vis a vis point-in-time recovery and replication. So, is disabling write-back disk caching sufficient, or are there other settings that must be tweaked?

• What could explain my partitions disappearing on a new SSD with Windows 7?

  So this morning, I had a fresh install of Windows 7 pro, on a new SSD (Patriot TorqX 128gb), which I just put in to a new Dell Studio XPS 9000. Everything was fine. I booted to windows, no problem. I go to work. 8 hours later, I come home, and I'm greeted by my boot screen complaining about no bootable devices. Windows repair from the Windows 7 pro disk says it can't fix the problem. It doesn't see any windows installs. I boot up GParted, and my SSD is completely unallocated. No space used, no partitions. Perhaps this is related to allowing windows 7 to create a utility partition when I installed? Only thing I can think of. Is there some kind of known hardware issue that can result in an SSD completely wiping itself?

  Problem: I'm trying to capture some information coming from keyboard, mouse and barcode reader connected to some PC via PS/2, USB and/or RS-232, before information get to PC and send it over the Internet to some central server. I'm thinking to do so by using some kind of hardware interface (middleware, if you like) between PC and input devices. I thought this interface can be embedded PC, PDA or simply some mobile phone with wireless connectivity. PS/2 and RS-232 could be converted to USB using some USB convector/hub that connects to one of these interface systems. Then some special API programming take place to communicate between PC, input devices and wireless server, in the form of application running on the interface system. What's the cheapest solution that can achieve this? Or possibly any other solution?

• Installing Vista on a BSOD Windows 7 (ASAP)

  On a previous question i posted, i asked for help on fixing my windows vista box because it keeps going to blue screen. No one seems to have the answer, so now i want to install Windows 7. I want to know if i can install 7 without having to reformat my hard drive and having to lose all my files. I've already confirmed the hardware is working because i installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my external hard drive and it runs on my system fine. • How can I create persistent SSH connection to "stream" commands over a period of time?

  Say that I have an application running on one PC that is sending commands via SSH to another PC on the network (both machines running Linux). For example every time something happens on #1, I want to run a task on #2. In this setup, I have to create SSH connection on every single command.   Hello, I am programming a mobile app which send sms. I need a gateway that let me put a "from" parameter. On many gateways, I can only subscribe, put my mobile phone number as the sender after a verification process. The main problem is that the phone number verification is only available for my and not for my users. My customers can send an sms but the receiver does not see their mobile phone number in the "from" field. Do you know a good gateway which support that (in an automated way) ? • Color Calibrate Dual Monitor XP SP2

  This topic has been touched on before but not really answered. I have a dual monitor system and the colors differ wildly. I currently live Buenos Aires where color correction hardware costs premium prices. I do some graphic design, but don't require a pro-level calibration. That said, I'd like my monitors to be set as close to "true color" as possible. I've located the useful and free Monitor Calibration Wizard, but it seems to adjust the entire system internally at startup. I could use the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet to set a different ICC or ICM profile for each monitor, but the Monitor Calibration Wizard outputs its own format for profiles.

• Right Drag on Mac

  How do you perform a right-click-drag operation on Mac hardware? I know you can right click, but there does not seem to be a right click drag gesture. In my specific case I am using a MacBook Pro, and I am in a Windows environment. The question is more than just theoretical. I ask because there is functionality that uses this gesture, at least in the Windows world. For example, right now I'm trying to do a copy and rename in the TortoiseSVN repository browser. I think there are things you can do with a right drag in graphical editors like Photoshop as well. In windows you get a context menu when you right drag files. For those familiar with the software, I know I can do it in other ways; I'm not looking for workarounds to specific problems.

• Why would a terminal server be kicking users off after about 5 minutes?

  I have a terminal server that was restored from an old 1U server to an IBM HS20 Blade running ESXi. The restore was using shadow protect hardware independent restore. All appeared to be functioning well but we're finding that users are being periodically kicked off after around 5 minutes or so. The interesting thing is it doesn't appear to be a simple disconnect but the whole session has gone like it was logged out. There is nothing significant in the event log, and certainly nothing from terminal services that is logged. I've also checked the client computers and from the client computers logged into our other terminal server and there wasn't any issues there. It doesn't appear to be network related. Any ideas?

I have windows XP, and i am going to have to have a VM running: Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 Sql Server 2008 IIS 7 (8 in a little while) Wamp Photoshop CS5 etc... so i was wondering what should i use to be easier to install and configure, and best performance: Virtual Box or Microsoft's Virtual Machine? Thank you Well i tried Virtual Box, it's always crashing for some reason. I think i'm going to try Virtual PC, just to stick to an all Microsoft Solution.
