• Branding Changes for Java EE6

  Hi Everyone, As we move the Java EE6 exams from beta to production, you may notice that we have made a slight change in the branding. Instead of being branded Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), these new credentials are now branded Oracle Certified Expert (OCE). One area where we use the Expert brand is for credentials where the technology is advanced or broader than the path based credential requires. Some are high-end add-on certifications, and others have significant additional technological breadth. In these cases, the Expert brand is an indication that someone is tested in more advanced or in-depth skills - beyond the traditional path-based certification. A few examples are RAC Expert for DBAs, or SQL Expert - also for DBAs. Because (1) all of the Java EE6 credentials require that candidates become certified first in Java SE6, and (2) many people earn more than one Java EE credential, we felt that the Expert branding would be more appropriate. • Do I need to use any other attributes other than CssClassProperty to enabled design-time support?

  Hi, I'm trying to provide the same design-time support that the CssClass provides on some custom properties of a server control. The documentation suggests that decorating the property with the CssClassProperty is all that's required. [CssClassProperty] public string SomeOtherCssClass{get;set;} This has no effect, in vs2008 or vs2010. I've looked at the WebControl class using reflector and implemented all the attributes, and every combination thereof, to my property and still no class dropdown. Some blog posts suggest that the use of the Editor attribute but a) there's not mention of it in the documentation and b) none of editors which are remotely related to css classes have any effect either. Am I missing something to enable this feature? Thanks in advance, Keith.

Starting with version 3.0.1, Hibernate added the SessionFactory.getCurrentSession() method. Initially, this assumed usage of JTA transactions, where the JTA transaction defined both the scope and context of a current session. Given the maturity of the numerous stand-alone JTA TransactionManager implementations, most, if not all, applications should be using JTA transaction management, whether or not they are deployed into a J2EE container. Based on that, the JTA-based contextual sessions are all you need to use.

• Should my connected web parts support IWebPartField, IWebPartRow and IWebPartData?

  I've been writing some simple webparts, and they communicate via a custom interface type. That's working fine. I've got one ConnectionProvider, with a variety of ConnectionConsumers. I see that the OOTB SharePoint webparts provide many standard connections, apparently through IWebPartField and IWebPartRow (IWebPartData seems less supported). I've tried to add a IWebPartRow interface to a provider, and found that it's not actually useful (apparently), unless it's shareing data that the OOTB components use, such as images, urls and users. Well, that's the impression I got, anyway... I've only done a quick experiment, and found it quite difficult to implement and test. Is there any point in spending time trying to add support for the standard webpart interfaces?

I've got it installed, it renders and works, but PhpStorm still complains about undefined imports and mixins. How can I resolve this? Can Compass be included as an external library? Edit: I'd just like to note that this feature request is for the RubyMine IDE (also by JetBrains), it's not for PhpStorm/WebStorm.

• Is there "native" support for JSON in JDK6 Script Engine?

  I'm using JDK6the standard Scripting. I need to store and retrieve some JavaScript Objects that also contain Java Objects to JSON. I loaded the json2.js into the ScriptENgine and can use it fine without issue if the objects are all created in the Scrip Engine. The moment I try to use my own Java classes, I get some errors like "object does not support toJSON" errors. I did not find much about JSON in Java Scripting / Rhino context. Am I doing something totally wrong? What's the best way of achieving the requirement?

• Does Process.StartInfo.Arguments support a UTF-8 string?

  Can you use a UTF-8 string as the Arguments for a StartInfo? I am trying to pass a UTF-8 (in this case a Japanese string) to an application as a console argument. Something like this (this is just an example! (cmd.exe would be a custom app)) var process = new System.Diagnostics.Process(); process.StartInfo.Arguments = "/K \"echo ????????\""; process.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd.exe"; process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; process.Start(); process.WaitForExit(); Executing this seems to loose the UTF-8 string and all the target application sees is "echo ?????????" When executing this command directly on the command line (by pasting the arguments) the target application receives the string correctly even though the command line itself doesn't seem to display it correctly. Do I need to do anything special to enable UTF-8 support in the arguments or is this just not supported?

  Hi, I've read the spec for CSS Transitions Module Level 3 and I'd like to know why it does not support image-based transitions. According to the draft, the background-image transitions are only supported when using with gradients. Both Webkit and Gecko seems to follow this practice. It's just that I see this as a major drawback. HTML 5 and CSS 3 could become the killer of Flash, but if I can't even transit between two images, I don't see how one could have beautiful menus without Flash.

I googled about features of the Korn shell and learned that it supports associative arrays, so I installed Cygwin's pdksh (public domain korn shell).   Looking at the new VB 2010 features, I stumbled upon support for Auto-Implemented Properties. Since I'm working with C#, this seemed quite familiar, but I noticed that VB did add a feature I would love to have in C#: setting a arbitrary default value for the auto-implemented property: I really like the clean usage of auto-properties in C#. This would save us the effort of introducing a backing field and hooking it up to the property everytime we simply need a default value, thereby cluttering up the code unnecessarily. I was wondering why this wasn't introduced in C# as well? What could be the rationale for not doing this? Is a syntax discussion going on, or are there technical limitations to implementing this?

Last week I shunned using resource files (.resx) in favor of a home-baked database look-up method. After hitting a serious snag with that, I'm back to the microsoft way of using resx. All the documentation I've seen so far details how to create new "World-Ready" applications, but I don't see anything on changing existing applications. Is my only recourse to touch the application form by form and control by control to have it point to newly created resource files? Any good sources/links for internationalizing your apps?

• WP7/silverlight Images does not stay within a grid/stackpanel when using the toolkit to provide gesture support

  I have few buttons and below that I am displaying an image and have used the WP7/Silverlight toolkit to provide support for Gestures. Everything works fine, until i do gestures like pinch and then moving it up/down. Both these gestures work fine but they do not seem to respect the stackpanel/grid the image is present in and they go over that and on top of the buttons. Do u know how to restrict these?   I read that SHA-1 is being retired from the FIPS 180-2 standard. Apparently there are weaknesses in SHA-1 that led to this decision. Can anyone elaborate on the basis for that decision? Are there implications for the use of SHA-1 in commercial applications? My real questions are: What is the state of SHA-2 support in various class libraries and platforms?   Hello Friends , have started using Netbeans recently after using Aptana, phpdesigner and Notepad++ . I love Netbeans for it's speed and it has almost everything I want except for the fact that the FTP support is really Bad. To start working on a FTP server , I have to download all the files to my localhost first which is such a waste of bandwidth & if those files are many ie. 1000+ files then it's really annoying . I have tried mounting remote FTP as local filesystem in Windows and then using Netbeans to access it but that does'nt work out too .. If anybody using netbeans a lot for PHP development can guide me on this , then I would be highly obliged.. this trivial problem is keeping me from using this awesome IDE . Thanks & Regards .

• Are there any sFTP clients that support a proxy that uses NTLM authentication?

  The title pretty much summarizes the question. We have deployed an sFTP server that needs to be accessed from our client's MS Windows Pc's that reside within a restricted local area network. The only way they can get out for their Intranet is to use an HTTP proxy that requires NTLM authentication. From what I understand all open-source sFTP clients (FilleZilla,WinSCP,etc) do NOT support NTLM authentication (Because of legal issues). I know that there are workarounds to this (installing a local proxy at the machine that understands NTLM) but this would break all sorts of security policies of our client. So my question is : Does anyone know of any sFTP client that supports NTLM ?

• Best approach for Java/Maven/JPA/Hibernate build with multiple database vendor support?

  I have an enterprise application that uses a single database, but the application needs to support mysql, oracle, and sql*server as installation options. To try to remain portable we are using JPA annotations with Hibernate as the implementation. We also have a test-bed instance of each database running for development. The app is building nicely in Maven, and I've played around with the hibernate3-maven-plugin and can auto-generate DDL for a given database dialect. What is the best way to approach this so that individual developers can easily test against all three databases and our Hudson based CI server can build things propertly. More specifically: 1) I thought the hbm2ddl goal in the hibernate3-maven-plugin would just generate a schema file, but apparently it connects to a live database and attempts to create the schema. Is there a way to have this just create the schema file for each database dialect without connecting to a database? 2) If the hibernate3-maven-plug insists on actually creating the database schema, is there a way to have it drop the database and recreate it before creating the schema? 3) I am thinking that each developer (and the hudson build machine) should have their own separate database on each database server. Is this typical? 4) Will developers have to run Maven three times...once for each database vendor? If so, how do I merge the results on the build machine? 5) There is a hbm2doc goal within hibernate3-maven-plugin. It seems overkill to run this three times...I gotta believe it'd be nearly identical for each database.

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. • How can I set IIS Application Pool recycle times without resorting to the ugly syntax of Add-WebConfiguration?

  I have been scripting the configuration of our IIS 7.5 instance and through bits and pieces of other peoples scripts I have come up with a syntax that I like: $WebAppPoolUserName = "domain\user" $WebAppPoolPassword = "password" $WebAppPoolNames = @("Test","Test2") ForEach ($WebAppPoolName in $WebAppPoolNames ) { $WebAppPool = New-WebAppPool -Name $WebAppPoolName $WebAppPool.processModel.identityType = "SpecificUser" $WebAppPool.processModel.username = $WebAppPoolUserName $WebAppPool.processModel.password = $WebAppPoolPassword $WebAppPool.managedPipelineMode = "Classic" $WebAppPool.managedRuntimeVersion = "v4.0" $WebAppPool | set-item } I have seen this done a number of different ways that are less terse and I like the way this syntax of setting object properties looks compared to something like what I see on TechNet: Set-ItemProperty 'IIS:\AppPools\DemoPool' -Name recycling.periodicRestart.requests -Value 100000 One thing I haven't been able to figure out though is how to setup recycle schedules using this syntax. This command sets ApplicationPoolDefaults but is ugly: add-webconfiguration system.applicationHost/applicationPools/applicationPoolDefaults/recycling/periodicRestart/schedule -value (New-TimeSpan -h 1 -m 30) I have done this in the past through appcmd using something like the following but I would really like to do all of this through powershell: %appcmd% set apppool "BusinessUserApps" /+recycling.periodicRestart.schedule.[value='01:00:00'] I have tried: $WebAppPool.recycling.periodicRestart.schedule = (New-TimeSpan -h 1 -m 30) This has the odd effect of turning the .schedule property into a timespan until I use $WebAppPool = get-item iis:\AppPools\AppPoolName to refresh the variable. There is also $WebappPool.recycling.periodicRestart.schedule.Collection but there is no add() function on the collection and I haven't found any other way to modify it. Does anyone know of a way I can set scheduled recycle times using syntax consistent with the code I have written above?
