  • Entity Framework 4.0: Why Would One Use the Code Generated EntityObjects Over POCO Objects?

    Aside from faster development time (Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 has no T4 templates for building POCO entity objects that I'm aware of), are there any advantages to using the traditional EntityObject entities that Entity Framework creates, by default? If Microsoft delivers a T4 template for building POCO objects, I'm trying to figure out why anybody would want to use the traditional method.

  • Help me stabilize this jRun configuration (CF9/Win2k3/IIS6)

    Not sure if this would be better suited for ServerFault, but since I am not an admin but a developer I figured I would try SO. We've been struggling to keep our multi-server configuration stable for quite some time now. At the end of last month we were running under CF 7.0.2 on a two servers setup (one instance each). At that point we managed to get our uptime to around 1 week per instance before they would restart by themselves. Since the beginning of the month we upgraded to CF 9 and we're back to square one with multi-restart a day. Our current configuration is 2 Win2k3 servers, running a cluster of 4 instances, 2 instances per server. At this point we are pretty certain this is due to improper JVM settings. We've been toying with them and while some are more stable than others we never quite got it right. From the default: java.args=-server -Xmx512m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=192m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/ To currently: java.args=-server -Xmx896m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:+UseParallelGC -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/ -verbose:gc -Xloggc:c:/Jrun4/logs/gc/gcInstance1b.log We have determined that we do need more than the default 512MB simply by monitoring with FusionReactor, on average our amount of memory consumed is hovering in the mid 300MB and can go up to low 700MB under heavy load. Most of the crash will be logged in jrun4/bin/hs_err_pid*.log always an "Out of swap space" I've attached links to the hs_err and garbage collector log file from yesterday at the bottom of the post. The relevant part is (I think) this: Heap PSYoungGen total 89856K, used 19025K [0x55490000, 0x5b6f0000, 0x5b810000) eden space 79232K, 16% used [0x55490000,0x561a64c0,0x5a1f0000) from space 10624K, 52% used [0x5ac90000,0x5b20e2f8,0x5b6f0000) to space 10752K, 0% used [0x5a1f0000,0x5a1f0000,0x5ac70000) PSOldGen total 460416K, used 308422K [0x23810000, 0x3f9b0000, 0x55490000) object space 460416K, 66% used [0x23810000,0x36541bb8,0x3f9b0000) PSPermGen total 107520K, used 106079K [0x03810000, 0x0a110000, 0x23810000) object space 107520K, 98% used [0x03810000,0x09fa7e40,0x0a110000) From it, I gather that its the PSPermGen that is full (most logs will show the same before a crash), which is why we increased MaxPermSize but the total still show as 107520K!??! No one here is a jRun expert, so any help or even ideas on what to try next would be greatly appreciated!!   • .NET Impersonate not working!

    I have a webpage that allows a user to upload a file to a network share. When I run the webpage locally (within VS 2008) and try to upload the file, it works! However, when I deploy the website to the webserver and try to upload the file through the webpage, it doesn't work! The error being returned to me on the webserver says "Access to the path '\05prd1\emp\test.txt' is denied. So, obviously, this is a permissions issue. The network share is configured to allow full access both to me (NT authentication) and to the NETWORK SERVICE (which is .NET's default account and what we have set in our IIS application pool as the default user for this website). I have tried this with and without authentication, and neither one works on the webserver, yet both ways works on my local machine. The code that does the file upload is below.     I use pthreads_attr_getthreadsizes() to get default stack size of one thread, 8MB on my machine. But when I create 8 threads and allocate a very large stack size to them, say hundreds of MB, the program crash. So, I guess, shall ("Number of threads" x "stack size of per thread") shall less than a value(virtual memory size)?

  • Eclipse/Java code completion not working

    I've downloaded, unzipped and setup Eclipse 3.4.2 with some plugins (noteable, EPIC, Clearcase, QuantumDB, MisterQ). Now I find when I'm editing Java projects the code completion is not working. If I type String. and press ctrl-space a popup shows "No Default Proposals" and the status bar at the bottom shows "No completions available". Any ideas? Thanks....

    Like the title says i want to be able to display the tooltip close to the text, currently it is displayed far away in the cell. Tobe noted the tooltip positions correctly for large text, only fails for small text. In DOJO How can i position the tooltip close to the text?     I am currently using XStream to serialize some of my objects that don't implement Serializable. Is there a way to tell XStream to use Java's default serialization if the object does implement Serializable and to fall back on XML serialization if it does not?   • Latex letter: Address right aligned

    Hi, I am using Latex letter class, and would like the address to be right justified. The default is for it to be in a right aligned block, justified to the left. I am happy to change the letter.cls file, but haven't been able to figure out the right way to do it. I have tried using sclttr2 instead but there are too many variables for me. Thanks!

    Android Code Style Guide defines "Android Code Style Rules". To conform to these rules one have to change quite a number of settings of the Java Code Formatter (Window-Preferences-Java-Formatter) default profile (in Eclipse IDE). Did anyone managed to configure the formatter to follow the "Android Code Style Rules" already? If yes, please export the Formatter profile and publish to be used by community. PS: I've tried to do this myself but I've found that there are too many formatter options available, and most of them are not mentioned in the Code Style Guide :-(

    By default when clicking the each column header it will automatically sorted. but I have placed a image in header column by clicking that image the column has to be sorted by priority level such as 0,1,2,.....the problem if i take datafield as priority the image disappears.   • How can I generate a flat excel file from a .rdl report?

    I have a .rdl report that formats data as a report. I want to export that data to excel as a flat table with the raw data that was returned based on the params in the report. The default excel export looks just like the report which isn't what I want (I just want rows and columns). Is there an easy way to do this?
