• Is this sufficient to prevent query injection while using SQL Server?

  Hi, I have recently taken on a project in which I need to integrate with PHP/SQL Server. I am looking for the quickest and easiest function to prevent SQL injection on SQL Server as I prefer MySQL and do not anticipate many more SQL Server related projects. Is this function sufficient? $someVal = mssql_escape($_POST['someVal']); $query = "INSERT INTO tblName SET field = $someVal"; mssql_execute($query); function mssql_escape($str) { return str_replace("'", "''", $str); } If not, what additional steps should I take?

• Virtual dedicated surver repetitive draining RAM, OOM constantly

  My linux (fedora red hat 7) virtual dedicated server has been experiencing OOM multiple times a day for the past several days. I thought the issue was with spamd/spamassassin but after disabling this the errors remains. The highest usage displayed on ps faux --cumulative: USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 28412 8.7 0.5 309572 109308 ? Ssl 22:09 0:00 /usr/sbin/named I'm not running any java applications so I'm not sure why the top issue is showing up. It is frustrating as I barely have anything running on the server and use the tiniest fraction of bandwidth. • Yii: Saving date and time in DB

  I am having trouble saving the date in DB through Model. In my controller, if I dump the date in log that I receive from $_POST , I get the date in this format "10/Nov/2012 07:30". If I use: $AccountAppointment->start_date=Yii::app()->dateFormatter->format($_POST['AccountAppointment']['start_date'], 'dd/M/yyyy HH:mm'); I get the error: Invalid datetime format: 1292 Incorrect datetime value: '10/NoGMT+5/2012 07:30' for column 'start_date' Changing the format in dateFormatter to 'dd/M/yyyy HH:mm' or 'dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm' or 'dd/MMM/yyyy HH:mm' throws the same error. Db is MySQL 5.0, Yii version 1.1.12. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am almost stuck....thanks....

• Wiki Database, is there one?

  I was searching the net for something like a wiki database, just like wikipedia but instead stores structured content, editable by users. What I was looking for was an online database accessible by everyone where people can design the schema and data with proper versioning of both schema and data. I couldn't find any such site. I am not sure if it is my search skills or if there really is no wiki database as of now. Does anyone out there know anything like this? I think there is a great potential for something like this. A possible example will be a website with a GUI for querying a MySQL DB where any website visitor can create DB objects and populate data.

FYI, my line 56 is the following line of code in simpleCMS.php public function display_admin() { Above this line is public function display_public() Can anyone possibly see what I could be doing wrong and again, my code is the same code from the tutorial website and have downloaded the files that came with it? Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Furthermore, I am using Mac OS X MAMP to run my Apache/MySQL Server locally. My other question is, when I using the following command: mysql_connect($this->host,$this->username,$this->password) is my hostname 'localhost' alone or do I also have to include port alongside the localhost?   Given a [mysql] database with a given schema, is it possible to generate an ORM interface for it? doesn't matter if its php, python or perl. in other words, I have a database and I have to ask it a few questions. while I could just craft a bunch of SQL queries (okay, several dozen), this is way more interesting to think about. is this a valid question, even? I have no design background with ORMs, but I've used a few (django's, symfony's, etc).

  Is it possible to access a Apache::DBI database handle from a perl script (that isn't running under mod_perl). What I am looking for is database pooling for my perl scripts, I have a fair number of database sources (oracle/mysql) and a growing number of scripts. Some ideas like SQLRelay, using Oracle10XE with database links and pooling, and or convert all scripts to SOAP calls, etc are becoming more and more viable. But if there was a mechanism for reusing Apache::DBI I could fight this a bit. I have no non-perl requirements, so we don't have a php/jdbc implementation or similar to deal with. Thanks

  I am new to node.js but am excited to try it out. I am using Express as a web framework, and Jade as a template engine. Both were easy to get setup following this tutorial from Node Camp. However the one problem I am finding is I can't find a simple tutorial for getting a DB set up. I am trying to build a basic chat application (store session and message). Does anyone know of a good tutorial? This other SO post talks about dbs to use- but as this is very different from the Django/MySQL world I've been in, I want to make sure I understand what is going on. Thanks!

• Table and Column names causing problems

  I have an issue when the T4 linq templates generate the classes for my MySql db using subsonic 3. It looks like one of our table names "operator" is causing problems in the Context.cs generated class. In the following line of code in Context.cs Visual Studio sees <operator> as a c# operator and generates a compilation error of "Type expected" public Query<operator> operators { get; set; } Is there anyway I can work around this without having to rename my database table and column names? For example hard coding something in Settings.ttinclude to use or map different names to specific db tables and columns?

  Hi everybody, I have a little (maybe the answer could require a book) question about web services and server side programming. But first, a little preamble. Recently we have seen new kind of applications & games using some kind of real-time interaction with a database, or more generally, with other users. I'm talking about shared drawing canvas, games like this , or simple chats, or the Android app "a World of Photo", where in real time you see who is online, to share your photos, etc. Now my question: Are all these apps based on classic TCP client/server architectures or is there a way to make them in a simpler way, like a web platform like LAMP? What I'm asking, in other words is: Can PHP+MySQL (or JSP, or RoR, or any other server language) provide a way to make online users communicate in real time and share data? Is there a way to do that without the ugly and heavy mechanism of temporary tables? Thank you! I hope I've been clear.

  Hi. I have this code in place to pull some relation data from the database based on a ID of another weblog entry. The relationship custom field would not work for my situation. I have tested the SQL with MySQL and get no errors. But I get an error when I pull up the page. {exp:query sql="SELECT entry_id,field_id_16,field_id_19 FROM exp_weblog_data WHERE field_id_15='2' AND weblog_id='6'"} Also, I want to populate the “field_id_15” from the url. I have tried using the “segment_*” tag, but nothing. Maybe it is something else. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Josh

• PHP MySQLi timeout on locked tables?

  Hi guys I have a weird problem with mysqli timeout options, here you go: I am using mysqli_init() and real_connect() in order to set MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT $this->__mysqli = mysqli_init(); if(!$this->__mysqli->options(MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT,1)) throw new Exception('Timeout settings failed') $this->__mysqli->real_connect(host,user,pass,db); .... Then I am initiating query on locked table (LOCKE TABLE users WRITE) and its just hanging, ignoring all my settings even: set_time_limit(1); ini_set('max_execution_time',1); ini_set('default_socket_timeout',1); ini_set('mysql.connect_timeout',1); I understand why set_time_limit(1) and max_execution_time is ignored but why other timeouts and especially MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT are ignored and how to solve it. I am using PHP 5.3.1 on Windows and Linux boxes, please help.

  Hi, we have a system where we collect data every second on user activity on multiple web sites. we dump that data into a database X (say MS SQL Server). we now need to fetch data from this single table from daatbase X and insert into database Y (say mySql). we want to fetch time based data from database X through multiple threads so that we fetch as fast as we can. Once fetched and stored in database Y, we will delete data from database X. Are there any best practices on this sort of design? any specific things to take care on table design like sharing or something? Are there any other things that we need to take care to make sure we fetch it as fast as we can from threads running on multiple machines? Thanks in advance! Ravi

  We're letting users search a database from a single text input and I'm having difficulties in filtering some user supplied strings. For example, if the user submits: ????????? lcd SONY (Note the ?'s) I need to cancel the search. I include the base64 encoded version of the above string wrapped up so that its easy run: print(base64_decode("1MfLxc/RwdPHIGxjZCBTT05Z")); I've ignored such inputs before but now (am not sure why) just realised the mysql database query is taking nearly forever to execute so this is now on high priority. Another example to highlight that we are using utf-8 and mb_detect_encoding is not helping much: print(base64_decode("zqDOm8+Fzr3PhM63z4HOuc6/IM+Bzr/Phc+HzyU=")); ????t???? ?????% So: how can I detect/filter these inputs? how is this input being generated?

  I am implementing a database application and I will use both JavaDB and MySQL as database. I have an ID column in my tables that has integer as type and I use the databases auto_increment-function for the value. But what happens when I get more than 2 (or 4) billion posts and integer is not enough? Is the integer overflowed and continues or is an exception thrown that I can handle? Yes, I could change to long as datatype, but how do I check when that is needed? And I think there is problem with getting the last_inserted_id()-functions if I use long as datatype for the ID-column.

My problem is that the script takes up monster amounts of memory, and since I'm running this on my MAMP install on my iBook G4, my computer freezes up.   here is my mysql and php code layout: -i have 3 tables -tableA stores unique "person" information -tableB stores unique "places" information -tableC stores not unique information about a person and places they have "beenTo". here is how i layed out my form: -one big form to insert into "person" tableA; "beenTo" tableC in the form, a person mulitple selects "places" which get inserted into "beenTo" my question is, when i am editing a "person" how do i display what the user has already selected to appear on my multiple select options drop down menu? my drop down menu at the moment query "places" table and displays it in a multiple select drop down menu. its easier when a person have beenTo one place, the problem arrises when there is more than one "beenTo" places? any ideas. thanks

  I want the user to be able to type in a fraction like: 1/2 2 1/4 3 And convert it into its corresponding decimal, to be saved in MySQL, that way I can order by it and do other comparisons to it. • When to use CouchDB vs RDBMS

  I am looking at CouchDB, which has a number of appealing features over relational databases including: intuitive REST/HTTP interface easy replication data stored as documents, rather than normalised tables I appreciate that this is not a mature product so should be adopted with caution, but am wondering whether it is actually a viable replacement for an RDBMS (in spite of the intro page saying otherwise - http://couchdb.apache.org/docs/intro.html). Under what circumstances would CouchDB be a better choice of database than an RDBMS (e.g. MySQL), e.g. in terms of scalability, design + development time, reliability and maintenance. Are there still cases where an RDBMS is still clearly the right choice? Is this an either-or choice, or is a hybrid solution more likely to emerge as best practice?

• Django QuerySet filter + order_by + limit

  So I have a Django app that processes test results, and I'm trying to find the median score for a certain assessment. I would think that this would work: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) median_exam = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score')[median:1] median_score = median_exam.score But it always returns an empty list. I can get the result I want with this: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) exams = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score') median_score = median_exam[median].score I would just prefer not to have to query the entire set of exams. I thought about just writing a raw MySQL query that looks something like: SELECT score FROM assess_exam WHERE assessment_id = 5 ORDER BY score LIMIT 690,1 But if possible, I'd like to stay within Django's ORM. Mostly, it's just bothering me that I can't seem to use order_by with a filter and a limit. Any ideas?

running at http://localhost:1234/ I'm a little confused over this, since I have the same application running locally on GlassFish/MySQL. All I have done is to swap in the relevant jar files, and change the persistence.xml. My applicationContext.xml looks as follows : <context:annotation-config/> <bean id="clientDao" class="com.jameselsey.salestracker.dao.jpa.JpaDaoClient"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory"/> </bean> <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"/> <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory" /> </bean> <bean id="org.springframework.context.annotation.internalPersistenceAnnotationProcessor" class="com.jameselsey.salestracker.util.GaeFixInternalPersistenceAnnotationProcessor" /> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.support.PersistenceAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <tx:annotation-driven/> <bean id="clientService" class="com.jameselsey.salestracker.service.ClientService"/> </beans> My JPA DAO looks like this public class JpaDao extends JpaDaoSupport { protected <T> List<T> findAll(Class<T> clazz) { return getJpaTemplate().find("select c from " + clazz.getName() + " c"); } protected <T> T findOne(String jpql, Map params) { List<T> results = getJpaTemplate().findByNamedParams(jpql, params); if(results.isEmpty()) { return null; } if(results.size() > 1) { throw new IncorrectResultSizeDataAccessException(1, results.size()); } return results.get(0); } } And an example implemented method looks like this : @Override public Client getClientById(Integer clientId) { String jpql = "SELECT c " + "FROM com.jameselsey.salestracker.domain.Client c " + "WHERE c.id = " + clientId; return (Client) getJpaTemplate().find(jpql).get(0); } Like I say, this works ok on Glassfish/MySQL, is it possible this error could be a red herring to something else?
