  • system problem! ubuntu 12.4

    when I was upgrading to ubuntu 12.4 I had to leave and accidentally turned off the laptop in half update. When lit it not entered the system, it put the screen in black and looked just the mouse. I had to install ubuntu 12.4 from a dvd drive apart, when I installed told me that was already installed, it saids that if you wanted to install ubuntu 12.4 with ubuntu 12.4 and I did it, but now I have two ubuntu 12.4 and also can not find my files . What I can do?

  • Laptop freezes and seems to crash, but continues working after waiting for a few minutes [closed]

    I've had this old notebook laying around and because i was missing a second machine (My wife usually steals the first ;) ) I considered installing Linux. As a php developer I work with Linux servers (usually fedora) on a daily basis and because its an older machine that I want to use for development, linux seemed the best option. Speedwise I expected a good experience, better than Windows 7 on the same machine. The results where terrible. I tried ubuntu 12.04. The shell never got past showing the background. The system doesn't freeze since the mouse still works and I can use ctrl+alt+f2 etc to enter terminal mode. I expected hardware problems en even exchanged the harddisk en Ram memory. No luck though, so I started over and tried 11.10 Same results so I tried 10.04.4 which did install properly. Not sure if unity was the problem, but it seems likely. But then I tried simply things like surfing on the net, the system frooze and I thought it crashed so after a few minutes I pulled the plug and rebooted. But it happened again and I waited. After a few minutes the system came back to life like nothing happened. Long story short. Besides the fact that the entire interface is very sluggish, any and all graphical functions freezes the system. The more elaborate the animation would be, the longer it freezes. I switch chromium from window to fullscreenmode and had to wait 15 minutes to continue. I don't see the animation that's probably supposed to be in between. It just freezes and then after unfreezing its fullscreen. I don't think its a bug. I suspect the problem is with my graphics card. Like I said, its and old system. So old that I can't even find the original Ati drivers anywere. (I'll post the details of my system at the end of my post) I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I tried other Distro's. So far only dreamlinux works normally. Linux Mint won't start as a live CD. I think I simply need a driver update but I can't find them anywhere. Does anyone have the same experience ?   • How can I make my primary partition larger?

    Well i'm running 2 different distro's of linux right now and I decided to make my ubuntu partition my primary partition larger so I took 119.53 GiB out of my other distro's partition and it became unallocated and then I figured Gparted would when I right click on it to resize/move give me the option of using it to make another partition bigger but it did not so I went google searching online and in one post I saw it said you had to format the unallocated space so I formatted it to ext4 the same as my primary partition but still no options to add it to any thing what do I do?

I had installed the post-relase updates for Nvidia, but encountered some problems, so removed [deactivated] them through "Aditional drivers". After restarting, when I went to install the recommended version current drivers through "Additional drivers", I get the following error: Sorry, installation of this driver failed.     I want to add text on a single wordpress blog post page where the "read more" text would usually be inserted. However, I can't configure a plugin to replace that text. I tried a few different sources, but I'm having trouble finding the solution. After looking through WordPress plugin: finding the <!--more--> in the_content and the page it links to, I still haven't been able to find a solution to this.

    Today I had a few users blocked in our server firewall because of: (smtpauth) Failed SMTP AUTH login from Can someone explain the reason? What does it exactly mean? Could someone be using the our website to access SMTP for spamming purpose? UPDATE: Server info: Centos OS with CPanel and WHM. However no one has access to either. Taking a look at the logs it looks like someone repetitively attempted to login with a known existent user/pass.

    i'm looking for an alternative to Landscape, Spacewalk (for RHEL), or CTL to perform a specific job. I need to control and apply OS upgrades on ubuntu systems, for 100+ servers, and so far i wasn't that lucky.
