  • How can I get it the Free Music Archive audio player or is there a better alternative?

    - by Dennis Hodapp
I'm looking at free streaming audio players for web browsers that I can use in a project. I really like the audio player used on http://freemusicarchive.org/. Are they using an open source audio player and can I get a hold of it? Or is it closed source? Also if there are any open-source audio players that anybody knows about I'd love to know about them (preferable to have one with no flash). Last thing...is HTML5 going to be able to replace audio streaming players?

  • cannot get thickbox to open / tb_show function ignored

    - by user357034
I have two links that should open up thickbox's in iframes but only one works (the one with the id of product_photo_zoom_url2). I have the following jquery code that works when this code... All that happens when the first zoom image is clicked is the page goes to the top so it seems that the .click bind is being ignored? How do I get this to work? onload="vZoom.add(this, '/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2.jpg');" / is removed from the markup. The above code loads a picture zoom function. See complete markup below. var titleattr = $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").attr("title"); function picurl() { tb_show(titleattr, '/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode='+ global_URL_Encode_Current_ProductCode + '&TB_iframe=true&height=600&width=520');return false; } $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").click(picurl); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url2").click(picurl); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").attr('href', '#'); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url2").attr('href', '#'); Here is the html code <a id="product_photo_zoom_url" href="/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=70367301P" title="70367301P Ignition Box"> <img id="product_photo" src="/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2T.jpg" border="0" alt="70367301P Ignition Box" onload="vZoom.add(this, '/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2.jpg');" /></a>

  • Re-Centering JQuery Tooltips when resizing the window

    - by leeand00
I have written a function that positions a tooltip just above a textbox. The function takes two arguments: textBoxId - The ID of the textbox above which the tooltip will appear. Example: "#textBoxA" toolTipId - The ID of the tooltip which will appear above the textbox. Example: "#toolTipA" function positionTooltip(textBoxId, toolTipId){ var hoverElementOffsetLeft = $(textBoxId).offset().left; var hoverElementOffsetWidth = $(textBoxId)[0].offsetWidth; var toolTipElementOffsetLeft = $(toolTipId).offset().left; var toolTipElementOffsetWidth = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetWidth; // calcluate the x coordinate of the center of the hover element. var hoverElementCenterX = hoverElementOffsetLeft + (hoverElementOffsetWidth / 2); // calculate half the width of the toolTipElement var toolTipElementHalfWidth = toolTipElementOffsetWidth / 2; var toolTipElementLeft = hoverElementCenterX - toolTipElementHalfWidth; $(toolTipId)[0].style.left = toolTipElementLeft + "px"; var toolTipElementHeight = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetHeight; var hoverElementOffsetTop = $(textBoxId).offset().top; var toolTipYCoord = hoverElementOffsetTop - toolTipElementHeight; toolTipYCoord = toolTipYCoord - 10; $(toolTipId)[0].style.top = toolTipYCoord + "px"; $(toolTipId).hide(); $(textBoxId).hover( function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); }, function(){ $(toolTipId + ':visible').fadeOut(); } ); $(textBoxId).focus ( function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); } ); $(textBoxId).blur ( function(){ $(toolTipId+ ':visible').fadeOut(); } ); } The function works fine upon initial page load: However, after the user resizes the window the tooltips move to locations that no longer display above their associated textbox. I've tried writing some code to fix the problem by calling the positionTooltip() function when the window is resized but for some reason the tooltips do not get repositioned as they did when the page loaded: var _resize_timer = null; $(window).resize(function() { if (_resize_timer) {clearTimeout(_resize_timer);} _resize_timer = setTimeout(function(){ positionTooltip('#textBoxA', ('#toolTipA')); }, 1000); }); I'm really at a loss here as to why it doesn't reposition the tooltip correctly as it did when the page was initially loaded after a resize.

  • How do I keep existing values from shifting to the right when entering keypresses into a jQuery Mask

    - by Andrew
I have a text box I'm using as a timer display "hh:mm:ss" When I select the box and press a number, it inserts the number at the cursor location, but instead of replacing the value at that position, it shifts all existing values over. For example, the timer text box reads "01:00:35" and I replace the first minute position with 1, the timer text box will then read "01:10:03." Anybody know how to force the text box to replace, instead of insert, at the cursor position? I've tried intercepting onKeyPress, doing the replace manually, rewriting the entire timer text, and then returning false. But, that doesn't worked with a jQuery masked input, because my function runs first.

  • Problem using form builder & DOM manipulation in Rails with multiple levels of nested partials

    - by Chris Hart
    I'm having a problem using nested partials with dynamic form builder code (from the "complex form example" code on github) in Rails. I have my top level view "new" (where I attempt to generate the template): <% form_for (@transaction_group) do |txngroup_form| %> <%= txngroup_form.error_messages %> <% content_for :jstemplates do -%> <%= "var transaction='#{generate_template(txngroup_form, :transactions)}'" %> <% end -%> <%= render :partial => 'transaction_group', :locals => { :f => txngroup_form, :txn_group => @transaction_group }%> <% end -%> This renders the transaction_group partial: <div class="content"> <% logger.debug "in partial, class name = " + txn_group.class.name %> <% f.fields_for txn_group.transactions do |txn_form| %> <table id="transactions" class="form"> <tr class="header"><td>Price</td><td>Quantity</td></tr> <%= render :partial => 'transaction', :locals => { :tf => txn_form } %> </table> <% end %> <div>&nbsp;</div><div id="container"> <%= link_to 'Add a transaction', '#transaction', :class => "add_nested_item", :rel => "transactions" %> </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> ... which in turn renders the transaction partial: <tr><td><%= tf.text_field :price, :size => 5 %></td> <td><%= tf.text_field :quantity, :size => 2 %></td></tr> The generate_template code looks like this: def generate_html(form_builder, method, options = {}) options[:object] ||= form_builder.object.class.reflect_on_association(method).klass.new options[:partial] ||= method.to_s.singularize options[:form_builder_local] ||= :f form_builder.fields_for(method, options[:object], :child_index => 'NEW_RECORD') do |f| render(:partial => options[:partial], :locals => { options[:form_builder_local] => f }) end end def generate_template(form_builder, method, options = {}) escape_javascript generate_html(form_builder, method, options) end (Obviously my code is not the most elegant - I was trying to get this nested partial thing worked out first.) My problem is that I get an undefined variable exception from the transaction partial when loading the view: /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/views/transaction_groups/_transaction.html.erb:2:in _run_erb_app47views47transaction_groups47_transaction46html46erb_locals_f_object_transaction' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/helpers/customers_helper.rb:29:in generate_html' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/helpers/customers_helper.rb:28:in generate_html' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/helpers/customers_helper.rb:34:in generate_template' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/views/transaction_groups/new.html.erb:4:in _run_erb_app47views47transaction_groups47new46html46erb' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/views/transaction_groups/new.html.erb:3:in _run_erb_app47views47transaction_groups47new46html46erb' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/views/transaction_groups/new.html.erb:1:in _run_erb_app47views47transaction_groups47new46html46erb' /Users/chris/dev/ss/app/controllers/transaction_groups_controller.rb:17:in new' I'm pretty sure this is because the do loop for form_for hasn't executed yet (?)... I'm not sure that my approach to this problem is the best, but I haven't been able to find a better solution for dynamically adding form partials to the DOM. Basically I need a way to add records to a has_many model dynamically on a nested form. Any recommendations on a way to fix this particular problem or (even better!) a cleaner solution are appreciated. Thanks in advance. Chris

  • img onload doesn't work well in IE7

    - by rmeador
I have an img tag in my webapp that uses the onload handler to resize the image: <img onLoad="SizeImage(this);" src="foo" > This works fine in Firefox 3, but fails in IE7 because the image object being passed to the SizeImage() function has a width and height of 0 for some reason -- maybe IE calls the function before it finishes loading?. In researching this, I have discovered that other people have had this same problem with IE. I have also discovered that this isn't valid HTML 4. This is our doctype, so I don't know if it's valid or not: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> Is there a reasonable solution for resizing an image as it is loaded, preferably one that is standards-compliant? The image is being used for the user to upload a photo of themselves, which can be nearly any size, and we want to display it at a maximum of 150x150. If your solution is to resize the image server-side on upload, I know that is the correct solution, but I am forbidden from implementing it :( It must be done client side, and it must be done on display. Thanks. Edit: Due to the structure of our app, it is impractical (bordering on impossible) to run this script in the document's onload. I can only reasonably edit the image tag and the code near it (for instance I could add a <script> right below it). Also, we already have Prototype and EXT JS libraries... management would prefer to not have to add another (some answers have suggested jQuery). If this can be solved using those frameworks, that would be great. Edit 2: Unfortunately, we must support Firefox 3, IE 6 and IE 7. It is desirable to support all Webkit-based browsers as well, but as our site doesn't currently support them, we can tolerate solutions that only work in the Big 3.

  • How do I make an HTML text box show a hint when empty?

    - by Michael L Perry
I want the search box on my web page to display the word "Search" in gray italics. When the box receives focus, it should look just like an empty text box. If there is already text in it, it should display the text normally (black, non-italics). This will help me avoid clutter by removing the label. BTW, this is an on-page AJAX search, so it has no button.

  • How do you implement file drag-and-drop upload in Google Chrome?

    - by Chris R
I've found several tutorials online about implementing file drag/drop with Firefox 3.6 (they involve using a FileReader object to get the file binary data). However, I cannot create a FileReader object in Chrome on Windows or Mac. Does anyone know what the API is to read and manipulate data from a drag-and-dropped file in Chrome? If I can get the binary data of the file, I already have the rest of the code to perform the upload. Note: I've also tried using the getAsBinary() function call on the file object of the drag event (event.dataTransfer.file) but I believe that is a Mozilla-specific function and not implemented in Chrome. Also, I'm not interested in a solution using google gears or one that requires a user to select files from a dialog. I'm specifically trying to implement a drag-and-drop file upload.

  • Reordering arrays

    - by Wurlitzer
Hi, Say, I have an array that looks like this: var playlist = [ {artist:"Herbie Hancock", title:"Thrust"}, {artist:"Lalo Schifrin", title:"Shifting Gears"}, {artist:"Faze-O", title:"Riding High"} ]; How can move an element to another position? I want to move for example, {artist:"Lalo Schifrin", title:"Shifting Gears"} to the end. I tried using splice, like this: var tmp = playlist.splice(2,1); playlist.splice(2,0,tmp); But it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Email Validation... advocating the use of +, and how embarrassed would you be to have written this?

    - by Langdon
I take full advantage of GMail's wildcard feature ([email protected]). Unfortunately it seems that most developers don't understand that + is valid in an email address. This makes trying to unsubscribe a real chore sometimes. Take TicketMaster for example... immediately you notice that they didn't even bother escaping the email address, so the text field defaults to "user [email protected]". Not a problem, we can just add the + manually. Once Submit is clicked, you'll notice the validation stops you right in your tracks. What now? Most users would have to further contact TicketMaster and attempt to explain the situation. I opened up FireBug to investigate. That's when I noticed this whopping 74 line email validation function with so much redundancy it's ridiculous. My favorite check is on line 20, informing the user that his/her email cannot have more than one @. Unreal. My second favorite part is the TWO regular expressions used! Imagine... someone was paid money for this... and by the looks of it, they were paid by the line count. //Validates the email function validateOptoutEmail(object) { var emailStr = object.value; if(emailStr == '' || emailStr == null) { alert('Email can not be empty. Please provide email'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } else if(Trim(emailStr).length == 0) { alert('Email can not be empty. Please provide email'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } else { var atcount=0; for(var i=0;i<emailStr.length;i++) { if(emailStr.charAt(i)=='@') atcount++; } if(atcount>1) { alert('Invalid email. Email cannot have more than one @'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } if(emailStr.indexOf('.') == -1) { alert('Invalid email. Email must have one dot'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } if(emailStr.indexOf('..')!= -1) { alert('Invalid email. Email cannot have consecutive dots'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } var dotpos=0; for(var i=dotpos;i< emailStr.length;i++) { var ichar=emailStr.charAt(i); if(ichar=='.') dotpos=i; } for(var i=dotpos+1;i< emailStr.length;i++) { var ichar=emailStr.charAt(i); if((!isNaN(ichar)) || (ichar == '_')) { alert('Invalid email. Email cannot have numbers or _ after dot'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } } var pattern2=/^([\.-]?\w+)*@\w+([\.-]?\w+)*(\.\w{2,4})+$/; var pattern1=/^[0-9a-zA-Z\-\_.]+@\w+([\.-]?\w+)*(\.\w{2,4})+$/; if (pattern1.test(emailStr)) { if(pattern2.test(emailStr)) { return true; } else { alert('Invalid email'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); } return true; } else { alert('Invalid email'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } alert('Invalid email'); object.value = ''; object.focus(); return false; } } I eventually just put a break point in FireBug and changed the value of the email address passed into the validation function. From there everything worked fine... All that said, how can we get the word out there that + is valid in an email address? Too often, I'm unable to use the email address that I want to use for certain web sites because developers simply aren't aware of what constitutes a valid email address.

  • Question about function returning array data

    - by Doug
    var grossBrackets = new Array( '300', '400', '500', '600', '700', '800', '900', '1000' ); function bracketSort( itemToSort ) { for( index = 0 ; index < grossBrackets.length ; index++ ) { if ( itemToSort < grossBrackets[index] ) { bracketData[index]++; } else if ( itemToSort > grossBrackets[7] ) { grossBrackets[7]++; } } return bracketData; } This is my current code, and I basically want to sort the data into their proper brackets. My source code is really long, but when I input these numbers into the function: 200.18 200.27 200.36 200.45 200.54 bracketData prints 5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5 or is there a better way to do this? Brackets: <300, <400, <500, <600, <700, <800, <900, <1000, greater than 1000

  • How to subclass a specific jqueryui widget method ?

    - by SBUJOLD
Since I updated jQueryUI to 1.8 I found a couple of issues in our implementations and I could fix it myself without waiting for a fix on their end if I could find out how to subclass a specific method of the datepicker widget so I call the parent code and then execute my code. I was reading on $.widget but I just can't wrap my head around how that is suppose to work. I tried something like this: $.widget("ui.datepicker", { _showDatepicker: function(input) { alert('Yo'); $.datepicker.prototype._showDatepicker.apply(this,arguments); alert('Hey!'); } }); And all sorts of other variations and beging to think I just don't understand the 'extendability' of jQueryUI or it just can't be done. Anybody knows how I can achieve this ? Thx

  • Facebox adding commas to input

    - by Ed Woodcock
I'm using a facebox to display a form inside a lightbox, nothing too exciting (just a couple of datepickers, some textboxes and a checkbox). However, I'm having issues with the postbacks, whenever I post back from the facebox it adds a ',' to the start of the input (so "rabbit" becomes ",rabbit") Now, I saw that there was the same issue with the modalpopup extender from the ajaxcontroltoolkit, so I assume it's a common issue. Can anyone either explain why this is happening, or tell me how to fix it? provide a decent way of fixing this? I have actually done it, and it works very nicely, but I don't really want to answer my own bounty question so someone else give it a go! Cheers, Ed EDIT See attached answer for a correct solution (I fixed this eventually but didn't want to ruin the bounty question so left the answer until afterwards).

  • Problem Parsing JSON Result with jQuery

    - by senfo
I am attempting to parse JSON using jQuery and I'm running into issues. In the code below, I'm using a static file, but I've also tested using an actual URL. For some reason, the data keeps coming back as null: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>JSON Test</title> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> <script> $.getJSON('results.json', function(data) { alert(data); // Result is always null }); </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> The JSON results look like the following: {"title":"HEALTHPOINT TYEE CAMPUS","link":"http://www.healthpointchc.org","id":"tag:datawarehouse.hrsa.gov,2010-04-29:/8357","org":"HEALTHPOINT TYEE CAMPUS","address":{"street-address":"4424 S. 188TH St.","locality":"Seatac","region":"Washington","postal-code":"98188-5028"},"tel":"206-444-7746","category":"Service Delivery Site","location":"47.4344818181818 -122.277672727273","update":"2010-04-28T00:00:00-05:00"} If I replace my URL with the Flickr API URL (http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=cat&tagmode=any&format=json&jsoncallback=?), I get back a valid JSON result that I am able to make use of. I have successfully validated my JSON at JSONLint, so I've run out of ideas as to what I might be doing wrong. Any thoughts?

  • Function inside jquery returns undefined

  • How do I programmatically determine the current zoom level of a browser window?

    - by Mihai Fonoage
Hi, I want to find out the zoom level of what is being displayed in a browser window based on the javascripts' window object properties (http://www.javascriptkit.com/jsref/window.shtml) to which I have access. I just can't seem to find the right mathematical formula for the zoom based on the inner width, page offset, etc. I found a solution, but that uses the document.body.getBoundingClientRect call which does not return anything in my case and for which I can't tell if there's a suitable replacement from the window properties. I am using Safari. Thank you, Mihai
