    I would like to implement one of the fanciest features I every now and then. I would like to allow a user to click on a JList and if words are typed, do a query and advance the caret to the next match (prefix). Is there and example of such an implementation in Java somewhere? I'm thinking a combination of key listeners, getNextMatch() and setSelectValue().

    I have a simple NavigationController based app. The main window shows a TableView and selecting an item loads a sub-view. I used Interface Builder for UI views. Now I want to add a TabBar to the app. Where do I put it? Do I need a TabBarController? Should it go in the MainWindow.xib, or RootViewController.xib? How do I tie it together with my NavigationController?

Using mercurial for source control, I was wondering what would be optimal way of organizing the repository structure? Should each job live in separate repo or would it be more efficient to keep them in the same, but break down into folders?

  • How do you handle very old browsers on your site?

    Hi. We have a non-profit web site that got about 5 million hits in May. Of those, about 5,700 were from IE 5.x or lower; about 4,000 were from folks with Netscape 4.x or lower. We know that the current site's layout works for newer browsers and we're testing it on IE6 as well (along with Chrome, Opera, Safari, and Firefox). How do you handle the folks with the older browsers? Because of jQuery libraries and such, the pages might not function correctly on those old browsers. Is there an easy way to show a text-only version on browsers that can't handle the CSS and jQuery goodies? How do large sites handle this sort of thing? I've used the @embed to hide the stylesheet from Netscape 4.x, but not sure beyond that.

  • How to start/stop CrossSlide (jQuery)

    I found that CrossSlide causes video playback on the same page to stutter quite badly. My thought was to have the cross slide effect on the same page stop or pause during video play back, annd then start again when video stops. Id doesn't look like there is any start stop function included. Does any one know how I might be able to accomplish this? Thanks.

  • Page zoom slows down page rendering

    I'm building a map viewer much like Google maps and i've run into an interesting performance problem when a page is zoomed (i.e ctrl + OR ctrl -). It seems to affect all major browsers but Firefox has the worst problems as far as I can tell. The problem is that when the page is zoomed panning by dragging the mouse seems really sluggish. This can even be seen on Google maps. Pan the map left and right and note how smooth it is. Now press ctrl+ (3 or 4 times). Now pan the map left and right in the same way. Notice the difference? Does anyone know how I can minimize this problem?

    I seem to have some problem with my code here.     I have an object I'm trying to populate from another object (that is, iterate over a return object to produce an object with only selected values from the original). My code looks like this: var collect = {}; function getHistoricalData(username){ $.getJSON("http://url/" + username + ".json?params", function(data){ for (var i=0; i < data.length; i++) { console.log(i); collect = { i : {text : data[i].text}}; $("#wrap").append("<span>" + data[i].text + "</span><br />"); }; console.log(collect); }); } So I'm using Firebug for debugging, and here's what I know: The JSON object is intact console.log(i); is showing the numbers 1-20 as expected When I log the collect object at the end, it's structure is this: var collect = { i : {text : "the last iteration's text"}}; So the incrementer is "applying" to the data[i].text and returning the text value, but it's not doing what I expected, which is create a new member of the collect object; it's just overwriting collect.i 20 times and leaving me with the last value. Is there a different syntax I need to be using for assigning object members? I tried collect.i.text = and collect[i].text = and the error was that whatever I tried was undefined. I'd love to know what's going on here, so the more in-depth an explanation the better. Thanks!

  • Development team collaboration via Google Wave

    I hope I am not repeating any previously asked question. Anyway, so Google Wave is nice and shiny and sounds like a lot of folks(at least at Google I/O :) used it in a useful for work(!) way. I've been beta-testing Google Wave for sometime now, but can't quite grasp how to improve our workflow using it. We have a medium size team of developers that are spread out around US and Europe and naturally most of communication is happening via IM and Skype and email of course. So what are specific things that could be offloaded to Google Wave to improve collaboration by leaps and bounds(meaning not just replacing IM with nicer IM)?

    I want to setup a click event trigger in jQuery for certain anchor tags. I want to open certain links in a new tab while ignoring ones with a certain class (before you ask I cannot put classes on the links I am trying to catch as they come from a CMS). I want to exclude links with class "button" OR "generic_link" I have tried $(".content_box a[class!=button]").click(function (e) { e.preventDefault(); window.open($(this).attr('href')); }); But that doesn't seem to work, also how do I do an OR statement to include "generic_link" in the exclusion?   • Best Practice - Validating Input In Simple GUI Application?

    I'm writing a GUI app with wxwidgets in C++ for one of my programming classes. We have to validate input and throw custom exceptions if it doesn't meet certain conditions. My question is, what is best practice when it comes to this? Should I write a seperate function that checks for errors, and have my event handler's call that function? Or should I do my error-checking in my event handlers? Or does it really matter? Thanks!
