• How to configure apache / php / postfix website emails when using vhosts?

  I have a LAMP webserver configured to serve multiple websites. Each virtual host has various PHP applications, mainly Wordpress. When users sign up to the Wordpress sites, email is sent by PHP through to postfix, and then on to the receiver. The problem is that postfix is identifying itself to the remote server with the contents of /etc/hostname, which is not a fully qualified domain name. Some mail servers reject this and the mail bounces. Additionally, the return path is being set to one of the vitual host domains, seemingly at random. I could set /etc/hostname to one of the website domain names, but then the emails from the other websites would have a wrong server in the headers, and this would not fix the return-path issue. Possibly related, apache2 says "could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name" on startup. How do I fix this so that each website can send email without revealing the other websites hosted on the server?

I am using X220 laptop. Perhaps related thing but ?AMD here. Perhaps some repeating bug in Ubuntu, again. How to fix this? Any patch yet for Ubuntu?

• Make Apache encode or replace quotes instead of escaping them?

  In the dcoumentation I read Format Notes For security reasons, starting with version 2.0.46, non-printable and other special characters in %r, %i and %o are escaped using \xhh sequences, where hh stands for the hexadecimal representation of the raw byte. Exceptions from this rule are " and \, which are escaped by prepending a backslash, and all whitespace characters, which are written in their C-style notation (\n, \t, etc). In versions prior to 2.0.46, no escaping was performed on these strings so you had to be quite careful when dealing with raw log files. This is a problem for Analog which is still the handiest analyser I use. I get .... "GET /somerequest?q=\"quoted string\"&someparm=bla" in the logfile and it is of course flagged as corrupt since Analog expects .... "GET /somerequest?q=%22quoted string%22&someparm=bla" or similar. I realise I can pre-process using something like perl -p -i.bak -e 's/\\"/%22/g' logfile But I'd rather not have to add this step to these files which are 50-90MB zipped per day Thanks for any pointers

• Wikimedia Commons not working properly from IE 8

  It happens fairly often that a page on Wikimedia Commons doesn't load in IE. This happens to me on both machines I use, each one Windows 7 with IE 8. The page just loads endlessly (or connects—can't really tell) and timeouts after a while. Repeated attempts (trying to load the same page in 5 to 10 tabs) sometimes work, but sometimes it takes a lot more tries. As far as I can tell, no other program is affected—Firefox or PowerShell have no trouble loading the page. Also, when I use Fiddler it seems to load fine on the first try as well. Anyone has an idea what might be going on? I didn't change any settings that I am aware of (and most likely didn't do so in the same way on both machines). Preemptive note: I don't need advice in the form of »Use another browser instead.«.

• HttpClient multithread performance

  I have an application which downloads more than 4500 html pages from 62 target hosts using HttpClient (4.1.3 or 4.2-beta). It runs on Windows 7 64-bit. Processor - Core i7 2600K. Network bandwidth - 54 Mb/s. At this moment it uses such parameters: DefaultHttpClient and PoolingClientConnectionManager; Also it hasIdleConnectionMonitorThread from http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/tutorial/html/connmgmt.html; Maximum total connections = 80; Default maximum connections per route = 5; For thread management it uses ForkJoinPool with the parallelism level = 5 (Do I understand correctly that it is a number of working threads?) In this case my network usage (in Windows task manager) does not rise above 2.5%. To download 4500 pages it takes 70 minutes. And in HttpClient logs I have such things: DEBUG ForkJoinPool-2-worker-1 [org.apache.http.impl.conn.PoolingClientConnectionManager]: Connection released: [id: 209][route: {}-http://stackoverflow.com][total kept alive: 6; route allocated: 1 of 5; total allocated: 10 of 80] Total allocated connections do not raise above 10-12, in spite of that I've set it up to 80 connections. If I'll try to rise parallelism level to 20 or 80, network usage remains the same but a lot connection time-outs will be generated. I've read tutorials on hc.apache.org (HttpClient Performance Optimization Guide and HttpClient Threading Guide) but they does not help.   I've successfully managed to connect to my Active Directory if I type in a username and password. To do this I'm using a PHP script called adLDAP. But I want my users to auto sign in if they are signed in on a computer connected to the Active Directory. If I understand things right, I need to use something called Single Sign On (SSO). I've tried searching for a tutorial on how to install this on a apache server running on windows 7, but with no luck. Could someone guide me in the right directions please? :)

• Intercept page request behind firewall return altered content with php and apache

  I'm providing free wifi service and need an ad to be added to all page requests. Currently I have a router forwarding all http requests to an apache server, which redirects all requests to an index.php page. The index.php page reads the request, fetches the content from the appropriate site, and edits the content to include the ad. The problem is that all images and css files etc. cannot be accessed, because when the browser tries to get the image <img src="site.com/image.jpg"> it's just redirected back to the index.php. I can change settings for the router (running dd-wrt) and the webserver (apache2 and php 5.2). Is there a solution that allows content to be edited before returning to the client, and allows css and images to be accessed?

• URL on apache server does not default to the .php file after / has been added

  Generally a url that looks like this: http://www.domain.com/product.php/12/ will open up product.php and serve the /12/ as request parameters, which then my PHP script can process to pull out the right product info. However when I migrated this whole site, after developing it, to a new server, I get a 404 error, because on that server it's not defaulting to the mother directory/file in case of an absence of requested directories. I vaguely remember learning that this is generally a common apache function but I can't seem to recall how to set it up or how to manipulate it.. if there's an .htaccess method to achieve this that would be great.

  I want to be able to read the cookies from Apache's HTTP_COOKIE string and then add includes based on the contents of that string. Now I want to be able to parse the string for something like Name=Bob. • how to get trac to run with apache?

  i have some problems getting trac to be running with apache. have no idea of how to do and the tutorial i followed doesnt work. i have an empty /etc/apache2/httpd.conf. should it be empty? then i followed the tutorial (http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracModPython) and typed in: LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so so now it contains one row. i have ubuntu and i installed mod_python with: apt-get install libapache2-mod-python libapache2-mod-python-doc however, when i run a2enmod mod_python it says: ERROR: Module mod_python does not exist! but i have checked that it exists in /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_python.so. so whats the problem?

• Grails URL's with Tomcat/Apache ProxyPass

  Grails tends to write out the URL for everything that uses its tags as /appName/whatever. For instance, if I use the tag: <g:javascript library="jquery"/> the resulting tag is <script src="/appName/jquery/jquery.js"></script> This causes an issue with using ProxyPass with Apache/Tomcat. All of my CSS, JS, Images and links have that /appName prefixed to them. Is there a way to work around this with ProxyPass or possibly a way for Grails to not prefix the appName to the front of all of my URL's?

• Apache ErrorDocument not working for PHP 500 error

  I have a number of ErrorDocuments setup in my .htaccess file for errors such as 404, 401, 403 etc which all redirect to my error page but the ErrorDocument set for a 500 error is never displayed when PHP reports a 500. The 500 code is sent to the browser and the output is blank. Is there something special I need to do to enable 500 error documents for use with PHP? My directives look like this: ErrorDocument 401 /errorpage.php?error=401 ErrorDocument 403 /errorpage.php?error=403 ErrorDocument 404 /errorpage.php?error=404 ErrorDocument 500 /errorpage.php?error=500 I've looked through the php.ini and can't see anything that would obviously override the Apache settings and there are no ErrorDocument directives in my httpd.conf either. Anywhere else I should be looking? Thanks in advance.

• Error 2006: "MySQL server has gone away" using Python, Bottle Microframework and Apache

  After accessing my web app using: - Python 2.7 - the Bottle micro framework v. 0.10.6 - Apache 2.2.22 - mod_wsgi - on Ubuntu Server 12.04 64bit; I'm receiving this error after several hours: OperationalError: (2006, 'MySQL server has gone away') I'm using MySQL - the native one included in Python. It usually happens when I don't access the server. I've tried closing all the connections, which I do, using this: cursor.close() db.close() where db is the standard MySQLdb.Connection() call. The my.cnf file looks something like this: key_buffer = 16M max_allowed_packet = 128M thread_stack = 192K thread_cache_size = 8 # This replaces the startup script and checks MyISAM tables if needed # the first time they are touched myisam-recover = BACKUP #max_connections = 100 #table_cache = 64 #thread_concurrency = 10 It is the default configuration file except max_allowed_packet is 128M instead of 16M. The queries to the database are quite simple, at most they retrieve approximately 100 records. Can anyone help me fix this? One idea I did have was use try/except but I'm not sure if that would actually work. Thanks in advance, Jamie
