  • Where does Chrome store its bookmarks in Ubuntu 11.10?

    I looked at all the other posts on this but can't find the directories mentioned (~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks, it's a JSON file.). Being a 2 day Newbie to Ubuntu/Linux I would like to know if the location has changed in the latest version or if not how I locate the directory indicated. I have logged in as root and searched for the folder and can't find it although I imported my bookmarks from a html file so I know that they must be saved somewhere.

  • How do I show full names of folders that contain bookmarks in the Google Chrome Bookmark Bar?

    I have Google Chrome installed on Ubuntu and I have made a number of folders of bookmarks placed within my bookmark bar. The problem is that some of the folder's names are abbreviated like "Ru---" for "Ruby". This is kind of annoying when I have more than one folder that starts with "Ru". Also, my bookmark bar is not completely full, so there is plenty of space for these names to show. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • How can I configure desktop notification display time in Google Chrome?

    Recently Gmail introduced an HTML5-based desktop notification feature for Google Chrome users (see this). It's very useful, however, the notifications disappear too quickly (in about 5 seconds) and I couldn't find a way to change the display time. Ideally, I would like the notification to stay for a few minutes if there is no user activity (or about 15 seconds if there is user activity). Is that possible?

  • Use Google Chrome to download a software, but the software is in Chinese?

But, when I installed them on my computer, they appeared to be in Chinese (I am using a Chinese version of Windows 7). However, it was weird that the built-in web browser in one of those softwares searches up English help contents. Could you please tell me what's going on over here?? Thank you very much!!

  • Enable Multi-Column Google Searches with a User Script

    Are you wanting to improve the search results view at Google and make better use of the webpage space? With a little user script magic you can make those search results look and fit better in your favorite browser. Note: This user script may conflict with the AutoPager extension if you have it installed in your favorite browser. Before Here is the standard single column view of search results at Google. Not too bad but the available space could certainly be better utilized. Note: For the purposes of our example we are using Google Chrome but this user script can be easily added to other browsers. After If you have never installed a user script in Chrome before it is just as simple as the regular extensions at the official Google website. Here you can see the details for the user script we are installing. Notice that you can view the source code if desired. To add the user script to Chrome click on “Install”. Once you start the install process you will see an intermediary message asking if you wish to continue in the lower left corner of your browser. Click “Continue” to move to the next step in the install process. From this point on the install process is practically identical to the official extensions. You can see the final confirmation window here…click “Install” to finish adding the user script to Chrome. As with regular extensions you will see a post-install message in the upper right corner. So, what does a user script look like in the “Extensions Page”? You can see the user script entry here…outside of an icon it looks rather identical to a normal extension. After refreshing the search page shown above we now have two columns of search results (default setting). This looks much much better than a single column view and there is little to no page scrolling required now. To switch to a three column view simply use the keyboard shortcut “Alt + 3”. To return to a single column view use “Alt + 1” and for the default two column view use “Alt + 2”. Three keyboard shortcuts for three different views…definitely a good thing. Note: On our test system we needed to use the number keys at the top of our keyboard to switch views…this is most likely the result of unique settings on our test system. Conclusion If you are wanting a better viewing experience when conducting searches at Google then this user script will make a very nice addition to your favorite browser.   • Firefox and Chrome Display "top: -5px differently"

    Using Google Web Toolkit, I have a DIV parent with a DIV and anchor children. <div class="unseen activity"> <div class = "unseen-label"/> <a href .../> </div> With the following CSS, Chrome shows the "unseen label" slightly below the anchor. which is positioned correctly in both Chrome and FireFox. However, FireFox shows the label in line with the anchor. .unseen-activity div.unseen-label { display: inline-block; position: relative; top: -5px; } and .unseen-activity a { background: url('style/images/refreshActivity.png') no-repeat; background-position: 0 2px; height: 20px; overflow: hidden; margin-left: 10px; display: inline-block; margin-top: 2px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 10px; position: relative; top: 2px; } Please tell me how to change my CSS so that Chrome render the label centered to the anchor. However, I need to keep FireFox happy and rendered correctly.

    When I installed pdo-pgsql, the extension was installed into /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/ and thus not automatically loaded. In php.ini, I have extension_dir = "/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626" already defined.     We’ve just released Version 2.0.1 of Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java.  This new version has several great enhancements added after I wrote about the first version of the SDK in 2010.  In addition to the AppsDataSource and Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) features that are in the first version, the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java now provides: Session management APIs, so you can share session information with Oracle E-Business Suite Setup script for UNIX/Linux for AppsDataSource and JAAS on Oracle WebLogic Server APIs for Message Dictionary, User Profiles, and NLS Javadoc for the APIs (included with the patch) Enhanced documentation included with Note 974949.1 These features can be used with either Release 11i or Release 12.  References AppsDataSource, Java Authentication and Authorization Service, and Utilities for Oracle E-Business Suite (Note 974949.1) FAQ for Integration of Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) Applications (Doc ID 1296491.1) What's new in those references? EBS SDK for Java Use Cases The uses of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java fall into two general scenarios for integrating external applications with Oracle E-Business Suite: Application sharing a session with Oracle E-Business Suite Independent application (not shared session) With an independent application, the external application accesses Oracle E-Business  Suite data and server-side APIs, but it has a completely separate user interface. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, but after the initial launch there is no further communication with the Oracle E-Business Suite user interface. Shared session integration means that the external application uses an Oracle E-Business Suite session (ICX session), shares session context information with Oracle E-Business Suite, and accesses Oracle E-Business Suite data. The external application may also launch pages from the Oracle E-Business Suite home page, or regions or pages from the external application may be embedded as regions within Oracle Application Framework pages. Both shared session applications and independent applications use the AppsDataSource feature of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Independent applications may also use the Java Authentication and Authorization (JAAS) and logging features of the SDK. Applications that are sharing the Oracle E-Business Suite session use the session management feature (instead of the JAAS feature), and they may also use the logging, profiles, and Message Dictionary features of the SDK.  The session management APIs allow you to create, retrieve, validate and cancel an Oracle E-Business Suite session (ICX session) from your external application.  Session information and context can travel back and forth between Oracle E-Business Suite and your application, allowing you to share session context information across applications. Note: Generally you would use the Java Authentication and Authorization (JAAS) feature of the SDK or the session management feature, but not both together.   • Installing FIREFOX with extensions/addons manually? (not really auto install)

    I've been reading around with regards to creating firefox installers, bundling it w/ addons, using scripts, and CLI lines and a whole bunch of stuffs ... but it seems that going through this route is just too complicated and time consuming.. Since i don't mind a bit of manually copying files and stuff, I was planning to do the following: on my test machine, 1) install firefox on a machine AND configure it the way i want it 2) install addons AND set the configurations for it 3) set advanced configurations for firefox (about:config) Then once i'm all set, I just simply copy the contents of the firefox/profiles folder (for this particular tests it's ....\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\6m0mef0s.default for deployment, all i have to do is: 1) Install the same version (offline installer) of the Firefox i used.. 2) overwrite the contents of the new profiles folder (randomly named by Firefox installer as usual) .. This should set all my configs and addons right? or what other folders do i have to backup and copy manually into the new profiles folder? I don't think i need to tinker w/ any registries right? anyway, if this works, though it's a bit manual, it's a whole lot simplier, and straight forward than fiddling w/ Installers and Packages etc.. PS I do this a lot w/ other simple (and some complex) software that i use and they seem to work fine for years.. i'm just not sure with firefox and how it's structured..

  • Stop bots from crawling old links with extensions

    I've recently switched to MVC3 which is extension-less for the URL's, but Google and Bing have a wealth of links that they are crawling which no longer exist. So I'm trying to find out if there is a way to format robots.txt (or by some other method) to tell google/bing that any link that ends in an extension isn't a valid link... Is this possible? On pages that I'm concerned about a User having saved as a fav I'm displaying a 404 page that lists the links to take once they are redirected to the new page (I decided to not just redirect them as I don't want to maintain these forever). For Google/Bing sake I do have the canonical tag in the header. User-agent: * Allow: / Disallow: /*.* EDIT: I just added the 3rd line (in text above) and it APPEARS to do what I'm wanting. Allow a path, but disallow a file. Can anyone confirm this?

  • How to download Firefox extensions from addons.mozilla.org without installing them?

    Pages at the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox site often feature buttons that say "Add to Firefox". Clicking on such a button causes a Firefox extension to be downloaded and installed. I am looking for a convenient way to limit this action to the download step only, so that in the end I am left with the downloaded *.xpi file in my disk. Thanks! P.S. The following approach is not only inconvenient: it doesn't work!. Inspect the HTML for the button, and extract a URL like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/1234/addon-1234-latest.xpi?src=search give or take the stuff after .xpi. at the command-line prompt, download this URL with wget or curl. This download attempt just hangs. (Even if it didn't, I'd like to find a less cumbersome approach.)

    In the latest and greatest version of Visual Studio, MEF plays a critical role, one that makes extending VS much more fun than it ever was. So typically, you just [Export] something, and then someone [Import]s it and that's it. MEF in all its glory kicks in and gets all your dependencies satisfied. Cool, you say, so let's now import ITextTemplating and have some T4-based codegen going! Ah, if only it was that easy. Turns out by default, none of the VS built-in services are exposed to MEF, apparently because there wasn't enough time to analyze the lifetime, initialization, dependencies, etc. for each one before launch, which makes perfect sense. You don't want to blindly export everything now just in case. There's also the whole VS package initialization thing which in this version of VS is not so transparently integrated with the MEF publishing side (i.e. a MEF export from a package can get instantiated before its owning package, and in fact, the package can remain unloaded forever and the export will continue to be visible to anyone)....Read full article

  • SQL ADO.NET shortcut extensions (old school!)

    As much as I love me some ORM's (I've used LINQ to SQL quite a bit, and for the MSDN/TechNet Profile and Forums we're using NHibernate more and more), there are times when it's appropriate, and in some ways more simple, to just throw up so old school ADO.NET connections, commands, readers and such. It still feels like a pain though to new up all the stuff, make sure it's closed, blah blah blah. It's pretty much the least favorite task of writing data access code. To minimize the pain, I have a set of extension methods that I like to use that drastically reduce the code you have to write. The bottom line here is that you can chain together a bunch of these methods to make a much more concise database call, in terms of the code on your screen, anyway. Here are some examples: public Dictionary<string, string> Get(){    var dictionary = new Dictionary<string, string>();    _sqlHelper.GetConnection().Using(connection =>        connection.Command("SELECT Setting, [Value] FROM Settings")            .ExecuteReader()            .ReadAll(r => dictionary.Add(r.GetString(0), r.GetString(1))));    return dictionary;} or... public void ChangeName(User user, string newName){    _sqlHelper.GetConnection().Using(connection =>         connection.Command("UPDATE Users SET Name = @Name WHERE UserID = @UserID")            .AddParameter("@Name", newName)            .AddParameter("@UserID", user.UserID)            .ExecuteNonQuery());} The _sqlHelper.GetConnection() is just some other code that gets a connection object for you. You might have an even cleaner way to take that step out entirely. This looks more fluent, and the real magic sauce for me is the reader bits where you can put any kind of arbitrary method in there to iterate over the results.
