• database for streets world wide?

  i use the downloadable geonames database for all countries, states, counties and cities in the world. but i wonder if there is a database for streets? so you could pick: country - state/department/district - (county/region) - city - street in whatever country you like? cause when i do a search for a street in google map i can see all the upper levels (country/region/city). is there a database you could download for mysql for this? there has to be a database for this, cause there are always national companies that provide this kind of information. where did they get it from? thanks in advance!

  I installed Ubuntu 11.04 inside VMware Player 3.1.4 inside Ubuntu 10.10 When first booting on the ISO image I was asked if I wanted to download the VMware Tools for Linux and I accepted. It downloaded for a few minutes, and then it has been "updating" for an hour already. Even shutting down the VM does not stop it. If I try to exit VMware, I am told "Cannot exit while still downloading. Cancel all downloads and try again." but the dialog's Cancel button is greyed out. Nothing special in vmware.log I ended up killink VMware. A few days after I restarted it, it asked about the VMware Tools again, I accepted again, and same problem...

  Windows Phone Developer Tools 7.1 Beta 2 was released on 6/29/2011. Are you ready for it? If not then let my guide help you get your system prepared and go through a few new features. Download links: Web Installer of Windows Phone 7.1 Beta 2 SDK ISO Image of Windows Phone 7.1 Beta 2 SDK - (723 MB) To get started you are going to need to remove the previous version of your Windows Phone Developer Tools 7.1 Beta 1.   This kicks off the process of uninstalling the Beta.   Once it is uninstalled then you are going to want to grab the bits from: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26648. The only thing your interested in here is the vm_web2.exe.   Make sure before you start that Zune is not running or you will get this error message like this one and have to restart from scratch. Now just go through your normal Install Screens. It should be installed and ready to go: A couple of things to note: 1) When creating a new phone application you now have several new templates to choose from as shown below. I welcome this addition because I’m a firm believer that we need more templates in order to get more people started. 2) Once you select an application template you can now pick which version of the Windows Phone platform that you wish to target: 3) If you created a WP7 7.1 Beta 1 project that it will still work properly in WP7 7.1 Beta 2. 4) You now have access to the search app icon. Once pressed then you will see something like this: 5) Under Settings –> Applications. You now have background tasks. 6) You will notice that the Web Browser looks a little different with the URL now located at the bottom of the screen and completely removing the “add”, “favorites” and “tabs” icon.   How do you get aware of new tools (libraries, applications, etc)? This question is only about "getting aware" that some tool exist and could be used. Learning and trying is different issue. Right now I get most awareness from stackexchange and freshmeat sites. But I wonder if there are more efficient way. E.g. 80% of freshmeat projects are no-use for me, but it reasonable overhead, because tools that I find trough it save me days or even weeks. • Very long strings as primary keys in a database for caching

  Hi, I am working on a web app that allows users to create dynamic PDF files based on what they enter into a form (it is not very structured data). The idea is that User 1 enters several words (arbitrary # of words, practically capped of course), for example: A B C D E There is no such string in the database, so I was thinking: Store this string as a primary key in a MySQL database (it could be maybe around 50-100k of text, but usually probably less than 200 words) Generate the PDF file, and create a link to it in the database When the next user requests A B C D E, then I can just serve the file instead of recreating it each time. (simple cache) The PDF is cpu intensive to generate, so I am trying to cache as much as I can... My questions are: Does anyone have any alternative ideas to my approach What will the database performance be like? Is there a better way to design the schema than using the input string as the primary key?

  Hello, I've been working on writing a SQL statement to create a MySQL database with several default options, including default character set and default collate. Is it possible to add syntax to make the default engine type for tables in this database to be innodb? I've been looking through the MySQL manual for v.5.1 and I've found the statement 'ENGINE=innodb' which would be appended to a CREATE TABLE statement... but I haven't found anything related to a CREATE DATABASE statement. Is there a normal way to do this as part of the database creation, or does it need to be specified on a table-by-table basis? Thanks, Monte

  My friend have a system to manage customers. The program per si is terrible, and my friend lost contact with the developers. The case is, now my friend lost the access to program (something that the developers say "locked to machine" so when moved to another pc, he lost the access to program and data. I get mission of to try to recover the database, migrating to another database, and create a cool program to my friend. Now I need to discover wich database was used by the developers. I know that the program was made using Visual Basic, because the MSVBVM60.DLL is required. There is some program to read the metadata in the .dat files and discover wich database was used?

  So I wanted to extend my laptop battery life. After googleing a lot I found many tips and tricks. Some even in this site as well. Then I found this package in synaptic as well laptop-mode-tools. Now I am not well aware of what harddrive spinoffs are, so I have a dilemma of installing this package as it seems to remove acpi support as well. So my question is, how reliable is this package in battery life extension and what configurations should I use with it ? Also I stumbled upon some posts saying spinoffs may kill the harddrive as well. So can anyone clearify with some configuration tips especially for laptop-mode-tools. Thanks in advance

• What to do with database in dev/production phases of a website?

  For a while now I've been keeping a website I'm developing in the standard dev/production phases. Its been pretty simple: Mercurial repo for dev, repo for production. Do work in dev, get approved, push to production. But now I'm trying to apply this process to a new website that has a database and am struggling on how to figure out a development strategy. What I didn't mention above is that I do all my work on my own repo, push it to dev, then later push it to production, so its 3 different servers. So how do I manage my database? The obvious solution of mysqldump every commit isn't going to happen, and a dump at the end of the day isn't all that helpful when you want to undo later one change that happened in the middle of the day. What is the best way to accomplish this?

• "Unable to install initrd-tools" error during installation.

  Was trying to install Ubuntu from a CD on a machine which already has windows on it, choose the option of "Resize IDE1 master (hda) and use freed space" during the "Install the base system" step. After that i get the error: Unable to install initrd-tools. An error was returned while trying to install the initrd-tools package into the target system. Check /target/var/log/bootstrap.log for details. The problem is one one hand i cannot proceed with the complete installation and on other hand if i remove the CD, am not able to boot windows as it says No bootable device. Would highly appreciate for any recommendations.

My question is Isn't it easier to use a pure Object Oriented database in development applications? Why Object Oriented database are not as much diffuse as relational? From my point of view makes sense to use OO database, the latter will avoid the numerous construction necessary for the mapping of complex objects on the tables.

  Hi Everyone! I've looked around the Wordpress forums about this and didn't find anything so I thought I might try here. If you have a staging/dev Wordpress setup used for testing new pluging and such, how do you go about migrating the data in the staging database back to the production database? Is there a "Wordpress best practices" way to do this, or am I limited to having to manually migrate tables from one database to the other?
