  • Do not get 'Safely remove' option in Tray for USB storage devices.

    I had done some tweaks in service settings (Disabled some as I thought it is not needed). Now, I am not getting the option to safely remove mass storage device when I click the icon on the system tray. I tried enabling some of the services, but it didn't help. Moreover I'm not very sure if this anomaly is because of my changes in services. Any idea how to make those 'safely remove' options appear when I click the USB icon on the tray. Right now nothing is happening when I click.

  • Why does service service_name status give different responses for different services?

    Running the "service service_name status" command gives three different types of output when three different service_names are used. I tried with atftpd, apache2, and isc-dhcp-server, as shown below. user@host:~$ service atftpd status Usage: /etc/init.d/atftpd {start|stop|restart|reload|force-reload} user@host:~$ service apache2 status Apache2 is running (pid 1103). user@host:~$ service isc-dhcp-server status isc-dhcp-server start/running, process 5696 Could this be because atftpd has not been converted to Upstart? The status for isc-dhcp-server shows "start/running" which indicates it has been converted to use Upstart. I would've thought apache2 would have been converted to Upstart already. If it has then why does it not display "start/running"?

Previous answers such as these no longer apply (or don't work for Mac), however: How do I get the "old style" system print dialog for Chrome on Windows? Disable Chromes Ctrl+P handling of printing Sadly, Google seems intent on shoving this broken preview screen down our throats (The thought of someone not want to use their nonstandard, feature-poor alternative to a systemwide service is inconceivable to them, apparently), and the "disable" flag no longer seems to exist in recent versions. Anyone know how to disable it in modern versions of the browser, which no longer include this option under "chrome://flags?" (OS-X specifically?)

    I have been banging my head against the wall with this one for nearly a week now, and am no closer than I was the first day. I have a form that has 8 columns and a variable number of rows which I need to email to the client in a nicely formatted email. The form submits the needed fields as a multidimensional array. But, I can't find any examples that will generate that type of table! It seems like this should be something fairly straightforward, but I just can't locate an example that works the way I need it too.

  • Ubuntu Server: Networking fails with MODPROBE option in /etc/network/interfaces ... ??

    For some reason (which I haven't been able to determine yet), yesterday morning the networking service on our web server (running Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS -- hardy) wouldn't start, and our website went down. I noticed the following error message when trying to restart it: * Reconfiguring network interfaces... /etc/network/interfaces:6: option with empty value ifup: couldn't read interfaces file "/etc/network/interfaces" ...fail! Line 6 in the /etc/network/interfaces file concerned a MODPROBE command, which (I believe) loaded in the ip_conntrack_ftp module so that I could use PASV on my FTP server (vsftpd): (breaking modprobe commands commented out below) # Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8).     I was messing around with grep and put this in my .zshenv: export GREP_OPTIONS="--color=auto" export GREP_COLORS='mt=1;34' I was bonking my head on the keyboard and changing GREP_COLORS around for a minute trying to figure out why the folder colors were working, but the matching text wasn't. I was doing this: $ grep -R -n -i -e "functionFoo\(" --include=*.cs --exclude-dir=Logs * The line number and file names were set with the default colors, but the matching text wasn't. After spending way too much time, I thought to do this: $ grep -R -n -e "functionFoo\(" --include=*.cs --exclude-dir=Logs * (I removed the -i option.) That's all it took to get the matching text to correctly show up in bold blue. This is a Cygwin on Vista setup, with rxvt running zsh. Any idea why grep colors would break on specifying a case-insensitive match? Update: Under cygwin 1.7, it's a little bit better - case insensitive search works correctly, but it only highlights the word that matches the expression exactly. In other words, "FunctionFoo" highlights "FunctionFoo" but not "functionFoo" and vice versa. Probably a grep issue so I'll be submitting it to that list.

  • How to install Windows with no CD drive boot option in BIOS?

    I have a new computer which I built from scratch and I am trying to install a copy of Windows Vista on it. I am able to get to the BIOS and change the boot options which are as follows.. -Built-in EFI Shell -SATA: ST31000528AS I have searched around for and everything I find says to boot from the CD rom. However, as you can see. That is not an option for me. So I am wondering if there is another way around this? Is it possible to boot the Disk from the EFI Shell? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks EDIT: I have tried this.. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744321%28v=ws.10%29.aspx UPDATE: I managed to make my USB bootable via the BIOS and I have copied my windows Vista disk onto my USB via drag and drop. However I am still not able to get the windows install to start. Also I have tried booting it from the EFI shell using the following command.. blk6: blk6:\> \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI Still no luck..

The only option I know - is to buy solarflare network card which supports OpenOnLoad. What other options should I consider and what is pros and cons of each of them? Well the question is pretty simple - what is the best way to bypass network stack? upd: OpenOnload It achieves performance improvements in part by performing network processing at user-level, bypassing the OS kernel entirely on the data path. Intel DDIO to allow Intel® Ethernet Controllers and adapters to talk directly with the processor cache of the Intel® Xeon® processor E5. What's key difference between these techologies? Do they do roughly the same things? I much better like Intel DDIO because it's much easy to use, but OpenOnload required a lot of installation and tuning. If good OpenOnload application is much faster than good Intel DDIO application?

  • Word 2010 header "different first page" option does not work if you select the same built-in header preset?

    I have a three page Word 2010 document. I have set a header on the first page and marked the "different first page" option to make the follow page headers different. It works as expected so long as I don't select the same built-in header preset for the following pages. Here's what I am doing: Check mark different first page. Make the header for the first page using Alphabet preset. Attempt to make the header for the following pages by starting with the same Alphabet preset. I only want to change the text of the following headers but still want the same graphical effects. Click off the header into the body of the document. Upon doing this the headers on the first page are updated to the ones I just made for the following pages. I don't I am doing something wrong because I can choose a different header preset and it will work as expected. If I select the same preset, however, it updates all headers, whether the "different on first page" is selected or not. If this is repeatable on others' computers the I would say it's a word bug. If not then please help me figure out how to get this working right.

I've been playing with it, and for the life of me I can't figure out what I need to do to get what I need working.   • How do I determine if my R installation on OS X has the "--enable-R-shlib" option enabled?

    I've installed R on my OS X machine via the .pkg method. I'm trying to get a Ruby gem called RSRuby to work and though it installed correctly, it's throwing an error when I try to invoke the gem. Fatal error: R home directory is not defined Reading the documentation, R should be installed with the option --enable-R-shlib. But the R documentation states that the Mac OS X installation does this by default. How can you verify that this option is enabled on an installation if you don't know it was explicitly called during installation? I'm chasing down why RSRuby can't find R home directory and this seems like the most likely problem.
