  • Boot from VHD with windows7 - bcdedit trouble

    - by Michiel Overeem
I'm running Windows7 Enterprise, x64 version. I've created a windows7 vhd file with help of the following blog post hanselman blog After that, I've added it to my boot menu with help of another blog post hanselman blog This worked great. After that, i've upgraded my hdd. With help of clonezilla i've copied the old disk to the new disk. Next step was to copy the vhd to another partition. Then i updated the boot menu. However, the step C:\>bcdedit /set {guid} device vhd=[driveletter:]\<directory>\<vhd filename> fails with the message An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. what is happening?

  • Virtualhost entries gets over-written when apache httpd.conf is rebuilt

    - by Amitabh
Background: We have been trying to get a wildcard SSL working on multiple sub domains on a single dedicated address.. We have two sub domains next.my-personal-website.com and blog.my-personal-website.com Part of our strategy has been to edit the httpd.conf and add the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the virtualhost entries for port 443 for the subdomains there. This works good if we just edit the httpd.conf, add the entries, save it and restart the apache. The problem: But if we add a new sub domain from cpanel or we run the # /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller --update # /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf the virtualhost entries that we added manually are no more there in the newly generated httpd.conf file. Only the virtualhost entry for the main domain for port 443 that was there before we made edits to the httpd.conf is there(assuming we are not discussing virtualhost entries for port 80). I understand we need to put the new virtualhost entries in some include files as mentioned here in the cpanel documentation. But am not sure where to. So the question would be where do I put the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the two virtualhost directive for port 443, so that they are not overwritten when httpd.conf is rebuilt/regenerated later. Virtualhost entries: The two virtualhost entries for the subdomains are: <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName next.my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.next.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html/next.my-personal-website.com ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName On CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/next.my-personal-website.com/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> and <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName blog.my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.blog.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html/blog.my-personal-website.com ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName On CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/blog.my-personal-website.com/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> and the automatically generated virtualhost entry for the main domain for port 443 is <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName Off CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> # To customize this VirtualHost use an include file at the following location # Include "/usr/local/apache/conf/userdata/ssl/2/myguardi/my-personal-website.com/*.conf" I really appreciate if somebody can tell me how to proceed on this. • How can I configure a NameCheap domain to point to an Apache subfolder? [closed]

    - by Serg
Possible Duplicate: How to make domain point to another web directory? My boss just bought the domain: sergiotapia.me for me, and agree'd the host my Wordpress blog on company servers. We're using Apache (latest version). The domain is purchased on NameCheap.com and the DNS settings are as follows: And when I visit my URL, it's getting redirected to my VPS server without problems. The thing is, I want my blog to appears at once, not have a user select the folder and then see the blog. My Wordpress blog is located at: /var/www/sergiotapia.me On IIS, you would need to edit the Bindings and map a domain to an application. I'm guessing I have to do something similar on Apache. What am I looking for here? Any tips on getting this working correctly?

  • Remove deleted posts from central google reader cache

After posting some test blog entries, I then remove them from my blog. however, once loaded by google reader, they never disappear from it. Even if I sign up to my blog feed from a different account, they still appear, so it seems that they are centrally cached by google reader. How can I force google reader to delete them from cache?

  • CodeIgniter's Scaffolding not working

    - by 01010011
Hi, I keep getting a 404 Page Not Found whenever I try to access CodeIgniter's Scaffolding page in my browser, like so: localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog/scaffolding/mysecretword I can access localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog just fine. I followed CodeIgnitor's instructions in their "Create a blog in 20 minutes" by storing my database settings in the database.php file; and automatically connecting to the database by inserting "database" in the core array of the autoload.php; and I've added both parent::Controller(); and $this-load-scaffolding('myTableName') to blog's constructor. It still gives me this 404. Any suggestions?

  • Software for formatting / web-publishing tutorial-type, technical articles

    - by gojira
I want to put some of my own technical writing on the web: tutorials, how-to's, conceptual articles about programming etc. I write mostly for myself yet, but think others can benefit from it so I want to put it online, and I also have plans of making everything more coherent and turning it into a book. My articles are not meant as a blog, they're just meant as a collection of tutorials and how-to's, but I think a blog-type software would probably be the most appropriate mode of formatting that kind of stuff. Right now I am using the blog feature of cite u like, which is very low tech and I really need something better. On my wish list is, among other things: code snippets in scrollable boxes syntax highlighting for source code snippets tagging articles with graphical icons according to topic, like in slashdot of course users (i.e. readers) should be able to comment on articles Also, just more options than a super-simple blog should look slick! should not look wikipedia-like Is there any software you can recommend for this purpose?

  • Reverse Proxy Wordpress with Lighttpd

    - by Jonah
I am deploying an application and a Wordpress installation on AWS. I have Wordpress set up under Apache on an EC2, and my application under Lighttpd, and I want to reverse-proxy Wordpress through the application node. This works fine, I just set up the reverse proxy in Lighttpd as so: $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/blog" { proxy.server = ( "/blog" => ( "blog" => ( "host" => "123.456.789.123", "port" => 80 )) ) } url.rewrite-once = ( "^(.*?)$" => "/index.php/$1" ) However, the issue is in the rewrite. When I enable rewriting, it catches it before the reverse proxy, and routes to index.php on the application server. I need it to not rewrite if it's going to the blog. I tried various regex matches and other configurations, but I haven't been able to get it to support rewriting and proxying at the same time. How can this be done?

  • Combining Two .htaccess files .. Wordpress and OSCommerce SEO URL's

I looked at a way to do it with directory defines but didn't think it was possible as blog.php isn't a directory. Thanks!

  • Wordpress 3 mutli site install

Obviously, Wordpress does not run on tomcat(at least not by default) so we installed Pound(http://www.apsis.ch/pound/) on our server and have setup any Apache and Tomcat on different ports. When "/blog/" is requested, the request is directed to Apache. This works fine but we would like to use Wordpress multi site so that we can manage all the blogs from a single interface. We would also like the url for every site to be "/blog/" example: http://www.site1.com/blog/ http://www.site2.com/blog/ I'm thinking it would have to be done with apache??? Is it even possible? • How to redirect the subdomain of a domain - Blogger

    - by Swader
I have a blogger blog put up, and Google told me to add some A records in order to enable a www-free redirection to the full www domain. So by adding those, visiting bitfalls.com (which is my blog) should go to www.bitfalls.com, but this does not happen. Instead, I get a not found error. Is there anything else I should do? The records are as follows: Interestingly, even blog.bitfalls.com fails with a not found error, only when prefixed with www does it work. The other part of the question is - since my domain name is registered at name.com, and I simply redirect the bitfalls.com domain to bitfalls.blogspot.com as per Google's guides, how can I redirect a subdomain of the site, for example, code.bitfalls.com, to go to a specific folder on my hosting provider (hostgator - not name.com), without it triggering the blog?

  • IIS7.5 - about app pool ID's and folder read/write access

    - by merk
I did some searching and it looks like for each app pool, there should be an account created called IIS APPPOOL\AppPoolName - however i can see no such account when i try to modify the permissions on a folder to give that app write access. The closest I have found is the IIS_IUSRS group. Now, if i go into that group and look at the members, i see several IIS APPPOOL\PoolName members. But where are these members coming from? Why don't they show up under the users? And why can't i add a specific one to a folder? It doesn't make sense to me to add the IIS_IUSRS group to a folder since they gives every site access to the folder. To be more specific, I'm setting up wordpress and it unfortunately wants write access to the root folder. So i want to restrict it as much a possible. I was trying to figure out how to set it so that the WP root folder has write access only for the ID that the blog's app pool is running under. When i drill down into the IIS_IUSRS group, i do not see the app pool for the blog listed there. The settings for the blog's app pool are: No managed code, Classic, ApplicationPoolIdentity, and it's named 'blog' So any explanations regarding these users that are created for the app pools, and why the blog doesn't seem to belong to the iusrs group? thanks

  • "Server not found" errors all over after Wordpress installation

    - by picardo
I uploaded my Wordpress blog from my local machine to Slicehost and then pointed the domain name to the IP address. Then I installed the blog as normal. Once I went to wp-login.php to login, though, I started getting "Server not found" errors. That was strange because the server process was still running, and I checked many times. I can't see anything wrong in the error log, or the access log either. This doesn't only affect Wordpress. I can't access phpmyadmin either now, which was mapped to a subdirectory of the same domain address. What is going on? Can anyone help? Edit: the blog is located on a subdomain. It's still accessible from IP address. The virtual host configs are ServerName and ServerAlias, both set to blog.mysite.com. When I changed those and restarted apache, phpmyadmin came back. Edit: also it's not a propagation issue because I installed the blog from the domain name. It's only when I tried to log into the admin section, I started getting these errors.

  • How to ensure precedence of files over directories with Apache?

    - by janeden
    My httpd.conf uses the MultiViews option to serve HTML files for URLs like http://server/blog. This works fine, unless there are directories with the same name – Apache will then try to serve the directory. Is there any way to ensure precedence of blog.html over blog/, or rather: can I make Apache process content negotiation according to MultiView although a matching entity (the directory) is present? In nginx, I can do this explicitly: try_files $uri $uri.html $uri/ =404;

  • Apply rewrite rule for all but all the files (recursive) in a subdirectory?

If that's not the case then they should be redirected to http://website.com/read. Nothing from http://website.com/wp-content/* should be redirected. So far conditions 1 and 3 are being met. How can I meet condition 2?

  • Setting up a reverse proxy [on hold]

    - by mrwooster
I am looking for the best solution for setting up a very low maintenance reverse proxy for a production website (example.com). The setup is as follows: A blog with will be hosted on heroku, and will reside at example.com/blog A static info page which will be hosted on S3 and will reside at example.com/signup A dynamic content management system, provided and hosted by an external vendor which will respond to requests for any other pages. The two solutions which come to mind are: Use HAProxy Ask the external vendor to reverse proxy requests for /blog and /signup The obvious solution would be to use HAProxy, but, if at all possible, I would like to avoid having to setup and maintain another server (especially such a critical one). I came across a company called Snapt which offers hosted HAProxy solutions, but its more geared towards load-balancing than reverse proxying. Option 2 is a possibility, but gives us very little control over changes and configuration. I see a lot of sites hosting blogs on /blog so this must be fairly common practice, am I missing an obvious solution?

  • New Style of Post

    - by Lee Brandt
I’ve been absent from blogging for awhile. Part of it is due to the ultimate inertia of my life. Most of it is due to my inability to post my thoughts without turning it into an ‘According to Hoyle’ blog post. I have an idea, and I try to flesh it into an interesting article. Something that you might see posted in a magazine or something. It never lives up to my standards and I end up dropping it. How did I get to this? I started this blog for the intended purpose of archiving my ideas and solutions so that I could find them again. Me. I realize that maybe some people read this blog, but I am NOT a celebrity or God’s gift to programming. So why am I worried about making my posts ‘worthy of public consumption’? Well, no more. If you are a reader of this blog, I thank you. But my content may change dramatically over the coming months, so be prepared. Hopefully you will still find my thoughts, ideas and solutions worth reading. Thanks again, Lee
