  • Is it possible to evaluate a JSP only once per session, and cache it after that?

    My site has a nav menu that is dynamically built as a separate JSP, and included in most pages via <jsp:include />. The contents and styling of the menu are determined by which pages the user does and doesn't have access to. The set of accessible pages is retrieved from the database when a user logs in, and not during the course of a session. So, there's really no need to re-evaluate the nav menu code every time the user requests a page. Is there an easy way to generate the markup from the JSP only once per session, and cache/reuse it during the session?

  • Can't log in to GNOME after upgrade (raring -> saucy)

    I've just upgraded my ubuntu (raring to saucy) and I now can't log in to GNOME. As opposed to virtual consoles (Ctrl-Alt-F1, for example). I set it up to log in automatically. But it asks for password now. I type in the password, press Enter, the screen blinks and here I am again at the login screen.   • Way to avoid ssh connection timeout & freezing of terminal tab

    When I connect via ssh terminal to certain servers, it timeouts and "freezes" the terminal (doesn't accept, doesn't disconnect, can't Ctrl-C to kill the ssh process or anything). This is in Ubuntu's Gnome-terminal, though it seems to be pausing the terminal input/output, and doesn't affect the operation of the Gnome-terminal software itself. so less a bug with gnome-terminal than an annoying inconsistency with ssh. So is there a way to prevent regain the terminal from ssh connections that have timed out?

  • How to enable Hardware-assisted decoding in Ubuntu 9.10, specifically for Totem and/or Gnome MPlayer

    Hi all, just wanted to ask about Hardware-assisted 720p video playback on an Intel Atom D510 machine, running on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. When I use Boxee with Hardware Assisted Decoding activated, I am able to play 720p videos -- whether on the local harddisk drive or on a remote server, through LAN. However when I play the same 720p videos through Totem or through Gnome MPlayer, the resulting playback suffers from stuttering and slideshow-like slowdowns. Would it be possible to make 720p video playback on Totem and Gnome MPlayer more smooth given that my machine's processor in the Intel Atom D510? If yes, how? Boxee seems to manage, so I assume it should also be possible to tweak Totem and/or Gnome MPlayer to be able to do the same. As an added note, I the machine's OS is Linux Mint 8. Installed RAM is 2GB.

  • Can only see part of the screen when connecting via NX, how can I control NX size?

    I'm using NoMachine's NX client on OSX 10.7.2 to connect to an NX server running on Ubuntu 10.04.3. I've chosen the Gnome desktop during the connection creation. The NX screen that opens is smaller than the Gnome screen running "behind" it it looks like it's 1024x768, while the screen "behind" it looks to be running 1680x1050. The result is naturally very inconvenient (e.g. can't see the taskbar, can't click lower options in popup menus, etc.). In the past I've used NX client successfully to connect and see the entire screen. Resizing the NX window only resizes the transferred image, but does not let me see more of the Gnome desktop. Playing with the NX client display options also does the same. How can I control the size of the NX client, and make it show the entire Gnome desktop?

  • How to make xvnc not kill the session on exit

    Hello, I'm implementing a remotedesktop access to a server thru xvnc/xinetd/gdm. I'd like many users to connect to that server using vnc (thus providing the gdm login screen) and want that if the xvnc session is closed, it would 'xlock' the session so next time user connects it will resume his session. Tried several parameter tweaks, but unfortunately each time the vnc viewer is closes, the X session is also destroyed. Help/clues would be really appreciated.

  • CDI SessionScoped Bean instance remains unchanged when login with different user

    I've been looking for the workaround of this problem for rather plenty of time and no result, so I ask question here. Simply speaking, I'm using a CDI SessionScoped Bean User in my project to manage user information and display them on jsf pages. Also container-managed j_security_check is used to resolve authentication issue. Everything is fine if first logout with session.invalidate() and then login in the same browser tab with a different user. But when I tried to directly login (through login.jsf) with a new user without logout beforehand, I found the user information remaining unchanged. I debugged and found the User bean, as well as the HttpSession instance, always remaining the same if login with different users in the same browser, as long as session.invalidate() not invoked. Since I'm adopting j_security_check I fancy intercepting it and invalidating old session is not so easy. So is it possible to accomplish the goal without altering the CDI+JSF+j_security_check design that one can relogin with different account in the same or different tab within the same browser? Really look forward for your response. More info: Glassfish v3.1 is my appserver.

I'm building a web application where users might spend a lot of time typing into big text fields, but for security reasons I still want sessions to time out after a reasonably short period. I want to warn them if their session is about to expire so they can save or take some other action to keep it alive. Any tips? thanks!

  • PHP Based session variable not retaining value. Works on localhost, but not on server.

    I've been trying to debug this problem for many hours, but to no avail. I've been using PHP for many years, and got back into it after long hiatus, so I'm still a bit rusty. Anyways, my $_SESSION vars are not retaining their value for some reason that I can't figure out. The site worked on localhost perfectly, but uploading it to the server seemed to break it. First thing I checked was the PHP.ini server settings. Everything seems fine. In fact, my login system is session based and it works perfectly. So now that I know $_SESSIONS are working properly and retaining their value for my login, I'm presuming the server is setup and the problem is in my script. Here's a stripped version of the code that's causing a problem. $type, $order and $style are not being retained after they are set via a GET variable. The user clicks a link, which sets a variable via GET, and this variable is retained for the remainder of their session.     Hi, I need to give my user a web interface to change the session timeout interval. So, each installation of the application might have different timeouts for their sessions, but they web.xml cannot be different. Is there a way to set the session timeout programatically, so that I could use, say, ServletContextListener.contextInitialized() to read the configured interval and set it upon application startup? The problem is that getting the username and perform initialization every time is very expensive. If i could turn on session, i could just save initialized data in local variables in the service instance. Is there a way to turn on both streaming and session in netTcpBinding?

  • No desktop icons after upgrade to 11.10

    I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and after restart it showed the login screen. After login, only the desktop background shows with ubuntu 11.10 text at the bottom-left corner. Did my GNOME stop working ? My mouse pointer moves though, so its not a system crash.   • How do I fix my theme?

    After installing and using Ubuntu 11.10 for while I decided to install gnome shell. After Installing and rebooting my system I saw that Ubuntu light theme (ambiance/radiance) is gone. I check /usr/shar/themes and /usr/shar/icons, it seems that the light themes and mono icons exist. I even reinstalled gtk3-engine-unico package but none of these effort fixed my problem :( my desktop now looks like this: What should I do to get my default ubuntu theme back?

    Situation GNOME Shell AutoKey / autokey-gtk it has a predefined shortcut "adr" which should write an address after hitting space and a shortcut "date" which should write the current date (after hitting tab) Problem no matter what I define, "adr" or "date" it always inserts as much blank lines as the template uses Example: "date" should autocomplete after pressing space to "13/08/01" but it inserts one empty line "adr" should do my full address but it inserts 4 empty lines Question What could be wrong with my AutoKey? Do you need additional information?

  • 12.04 Does anyone know how to fix this? all of a sudden - my Terminal shortcut doesnt work and windows only appear in top left corner [closed]

    So basically after doing a few updates - my Ubuntu 12.04 told me that an error has occuredand when i tried to report it it said this is not an official ubuntu package please remove packages and try again or something of the sort - now my terminal shortcut doesnt work and my windows all appear in the upper left corner how can I fix this and how can I find what's causing the issues?
