• LiveView plugin template creates lots of errors?

  I'm trying to get the LiveView plugin template to work but upon import of the project into Eclipse, I already have 13 errors and 2 warnings. I have already downloaded SDK for Android 1.6 which I believe is what it requires.   I am developing a Java Desktop Application that access internet. It is a multi-threaded application, each thread do the same work (means each thread is an instance of same Thread class). Now, as all the threads need internet connection to be active, there should be some mechanism that detects whether an internet connection is active or not. Q1. How to detect whether the internet connection is active or not? Q2. Where to implement this internet-status-check-mechanism code? Should I start a separate thread for checking internet status regularly and notifies all the threads when the status changes from one state to another? Or should I let each thread check for the internet-status itself? Q3. This issue should be a very common issue as every application accessing an internet should deal with this problem. So how other developers usually deal with this problem? Q4. If you could give me a reference to a good demo application that addresses this issue then it would greatly help me.

  Hi, today I just tried to play a little bit around with the opcodes in compiled java class file. There's only one section in the resulting class file, which contains 0x84: [..] 8401 0184 0101 8401 01[..] So I would translate this as: iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 iinc 1,1 corresponding to my i++; i++; i++; I then tried to append just 840101 to increment the variable once more, but that didn't work and resulted in the ClassFormatError. Is there anything like a checksum for the class file? I looked up the format of a classfile in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/ClassFile.doc.html but could not find anything which points out to some kind of bytes_of_classfile or something. I also don't understand why the error is "Truncated Class File", because I did append something :-) I know its not a good idea to edit class files directly, but I'm just interested on the VM internals here.

  I need to remove all the Java Script tags and the content in between and style tags from the HTML code of web pages.So far I've come up with this expression : "(<[ \r\n\t]script([ \r\n\t]|){1,}([ \r\n\t]|.)?)|(<[ \r\n\t]noscript([ \r\n\t]|){1,}([ \r\n\t]|.)?)|(<[ \r\n\t]style([ \r\n\t]|){1,}([ \r\n\t]|.)?)" I use JRegex library to work with regular expressions. • Java: easiest way to package both Java 1.5 and 1.6 code

  I want to package a piece of code that absolutely must run on Java 1.5. There's one part of the code where the program can be "enhanced" if the VM is an 1.6 VM. Basically it's this method: private long[] findDeadlockedThreads() { // JDK 1.5 only supports the findMonitorDeadlockedThreads() // method, so you need to comment out the following three lines if (mbean.isSynchronizerUsageSupported()) return mbean.findDeadlockedThreads(); else return mbean.findMonitorDeadlockedThreads(); } What would be easiest way to have this compile on 1.5 and yet do the 1.6 method calls when on 1.6 ? In the past I've done something similar by compiling a unique 1.6 class that I would package with my app and instantiate using a ClassLoader when on 1.6 (because an 1.6 JVM is perfectly fine mixing 0x32 and 0x31 classes), but I think it's a bit overkill (and a bit painful because during the build process you have to build both 0x31 and 0x32 .class files). How should I go if I wanted to compile the above method on 1.5? Maybe using reflection but then how (I'm not familiar at all with reflection) Note: if you're curious, the above method comes from this article: http://www.javaspecialists.eu/archive/Issue130.html (but I don't want to "comment the three lines" like in the article, I want this to compile and run on both 1.5 and 1.6)

But the error occured again after 3 days at same code i.e while connecting to DB. We checked TCP connections using netstat. But there were not many TCP connections i.e it has not reached the max limit. Our application has multiple long running Java processes that pools the DB connections (not more than 60) and keeps it alive for firing the next query (as it has to poll the DB every 2 seconds). Some of the queries in our application are joining large tables (10 million records) to get the related data. We are using following System and applications Windows 2003 server SP2 Java 1.6 Postgres Plus Advanced server 8.4 Database edb-jdbc14.jar driver for connection DB from Java We have used the default configuration of Postgres DB except increasing the connection to 120 from 100. Has anybody encountred the same error with postgres edb driver? Can anybody help us finding the solution?

  Apple, for memory management issues, recommend defining outlets on properties, not in the attribute declaration. But, as far as I know, declaring properties exposes the class to external classes, so this could be dangerous. On UIViewController we have the main view definition and the logic, so MVC is slightly cheated in this cases. What is the beteer approach, Apples's recommendation for memory-management or armored classes?

  I'm a .NET developer, but for my current project I need to use Google Caja, a Java project. Uh-oh! I've followed the guide at http://code.google.com/p/google-caja/wiki/RunningCaja on my windows machine, but can't get the program to run. I've also tried file:///d:/java/caja/svn-changes/pristine/ant-jars/test.htm instead of test.htm as looking at the source it seems the file param is a Uri... I've also tried running IKVM on pluginc and then not worrying about java, but that came up with the ClassDefNotFoundException too... thanks!

  For my data structure class, I am trying to write a program that simulates a car wash and I want to give fancy cars a higher priority than regular ones using a priority queue. The problem I am having has something to do with Java not being able to type cast "Object" as an "ArrayQueue" (a simple FIFO implementation). Thus, I should still get the plugin finder service prompting me to install Java. Instead, simply adding a single character to the innerHTML of the object element causes Firefox to no longer prompt. Test this by visiting data:text/html,<object type='application/x-java-applet'>Java failed to load</object>. How can I keep firefox prompting to install Java while providing fallback content?   Hi, On servers running Suse 11 I'm experiencing hangups in sun.awt.X11GraphicsDevice.getDoubleBufferVisuals(Native Method) when connecting via Citrix (and setting DISPLAY to localhost:11.0). Running exactly the same code in exactly the same environment, excepth through Exceed (with DISPLAY set to my workstation's IP) it runs like clockwork.   I'm trying to install Red5 on a vps running CentOS 5.7 in MediaTemple using this how-to (dv):Install Red5 Media Server but on step 7 I get this error: BUILD FAILED /usr/local/red5/build.xml:217: The following error occurred while executing this line: /usr/local/red5/build.xml:238: Error running /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/bin/javac compiler Any idea how to fix it? Already Google and several users have had this same issue but none posted the solution or they never solved. • Maven 2.1.0 not passing on system properties to Java virtual machine

  We use the command line to pass on system properties to the Java virtual machine when running our Hudson builds on a Linux box. It used to work quite well in 2.0.9 by since we upgraded to 2.1.0 it has stopped working altogether. The system properties just never make it to the Java virtual machine. I have created a small test project and indeed it does not work at all. I have attached it in case you want to give it a go. • Objective C style nil in java?

  Objective C has a concept of a nil object which would accept any method call with any parameters without complaining and silently return another nil. I have used something similar in Java using easymock and mockito for testing. Is there something similar for main line code? Is it even a good idea to have something like this? One use-case where I am considering using it is with optional metrics. We have codahale metrics counters on which we call mark() every time an event is generated. This is surrounded by an If/then to check for metrics enabled flag. I could just use a nil object as counter and silently accept the mark call if metrics are not enabled.
