The form is inserted nicely, and the click events are fired, checking the boxes that need to be checked and firing the second ajax, since the checked attribute of the checkbox was initially false. What's curdling my cheese is if I UNCHECK one of those boxes. Despite e.preventDefault(), the checked attribute is set to false BEFORE the test, so the if statement always executes the else statement. I've also tried this with $.is(':checked'), so I'm completely baffled. It appears that unchecked - checked state reads the original state, but checked - unchecked doesn't. Any help?

  Hi! I found this example PHP source code at HTTP POST from PHP, without cURL I need some help modifying the example PHP source to support XML DOM for manipulating a REST API. • Detect NetStream events with AS3 Video Object (not component)

  I have created a FLV video player using the AS3 flash.media.Video object (not the FLV playback component) and I am trying to listen for meta events and Cue Points embedded in the FLV video but I am not receiving any when I trace the movie. The cue points are not being created dynamically, they are in the FLV video. • Abstracting boxed array structures in J

  I've been working on a J function for a while, that's supposed to scan a list and put consecutive copies of an element into separate, concatenated boxes. My efforts have taken me as far as the function (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) which tests successive list entries for inequality, returns a list of boolean values, and cuts the list into boxes that end each time the number 1 appears. Here's an example application: (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) 1 2 3 3 3 4 1 1 1 +-+-+-----+-+-----+ |1|1|0 0 1|1|0 0 1| +-+-+-----+-+-----+ The task would be finished if I could then replace all those booleans with their corresponding values in the input argument. I've been looking for some kind of mystery function that would let me do something like final =: mysteryfunction @ (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) final 1 2 3 3 3 4 1 1 1 +-+-+-----+-+-----+ |1|2|3 3 3|4|1 1 1| +-+-+-----+-+-----+ In an ideal situation, there would be some way to abstractly represent the nesting pattern generated by (<;. 2) ((2&(~:/\)),1:) to the original input list. (i.e. "This boxed array over here has the first element boxed at depth one, the second element boxed at depth one, the third, fourth, and fifth elements boxed together at depth one,..., so take that unboxed list over there and box it up the same way.") I tried fooling around with ;. , S: , L:, L. and &. to produce that behavior, but I haven't had much luck. Is there some kind of operator or principle I'm missing that could make this happen? It wouldn't surprise me if I were overthinking the whole issue, but I'm running out of ideas.

• SEO: Where do I start?

  Hi, I am primarily a software developer however I tend to delve in some web development from time to time. I have recently been asked to have a look at a friends website as they are wanting to improve their position in search engine results i.e. google/yahoo etc. I am aware there is no guarentee that their position will change, however, I do know there are techniques/ways to make your website more visible to search engine spiders and to consequently improve your position in the rankings i.e. performing SEO. Before I started looking at the SEO of the site I did the following prerequsite checks: Ran the website through the W3C Markup Validator and the W3C CSS Validator services. Looked through the markup code manually (check for meta tags etc) Performed a thorough cross browser compatibility test. From those checks, the following was evident: No SEO has been performed on the site before. The website has been developed using a visual editing tool such as dreamweaver (as it failed the validation services miserably and tables where being used everywhere!) The site is fairly cross browser compatibile (only some slight issues with IE8 which are easily resolved). How the site navigation is, isn't very search engine friendly (e.g. index.php?page=home) I can see right away a major improvement for SEO (or I at least think) would be to change the way the website is structured i.e. change from using dynamic pages such as "index.php?page=home" and actually having pages called "home.html". Other area's would be to add meta tags to identify keywords, and then sprinkling these keywords over the pages. As I am a rookie in this department, could anyone give me some advice on how I could perform thorough SEO on this website? Thanks in advance.

• VBScript: Disable caching of response from server to HTTP GET URL request

  I want to turn off the cache used when a URL call to a server is made from VBScript running within an application on a Windows machine. What function/method/object do I use to do this? When the call is made for the first time, my Linux based Apache server returns a response back from the CGI Perl script that it is running. However, subsequent runs of the script seem to be using the same response as for the first time, so the data is being cached somewhere. My server logs confirm that the server is not being called in those subsequent times, only in the first time. This is what I am doing. I am using the following code from within a commercial application (don't wish to mention this application, probably not relevant to my problem): With CreateObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP") .open "GET", "http://myserver/cgi-bin/nsr/nsr.cgi?aparam=1", False .send nsrresponse =.responseText End With Is there a function/method on the above object to turn off caching, or should I be calling a method/function to turn off the caching on a response object before making the URL? I looked here for a solution: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms535874(VS.85).aspx - not quite helpful enough. And here: http://www.w3.org/TR/XMLHttpRequest/ - very unfriendly and hard to read. • MS Access 2003 - Is there a way to programmatically define the data for a chart?

  So I have some VBA for taking charts built with the Form's Chart Wizard, and automatically inserting it into PowerPoint Presentation slides. I use those chart-forms as sub forms within a larger forms that has parameters the user can select to determine what is on the chart. The idea is that the user can determine the parameter, build the chart to his/her liking, and click a button and have it in a ppt slide with the company's background template, blah blah blah..... So it works, though it is very bulky in terms of the amount of objects I have to use to accomplish this. I use expressions such as the following: like forms!frmMain.Month&* to get the input values into the saved queries, which was fine when i first started, but it went over so well and they want so many options, that it is driving the number of saved queries/objects up. I need several saved forms with charts because of the number of different types of charts I need to have this be able to handle. SO FINALLY TO MY QUESTION: I would much rather do all this on the fly with some VBA. • Django db encoding

  Hey, I have a little problem with encoding. The data in db is ok, when I select the data in php its ok. Problem comes when I get the data and try to print it in the template, I get - Å port instead of Šport, etc. Everything is set to utf-8 - in settings.py, meta tags in template, db table and I even have unicode method specified for the model, but nothing seems to work. I am getting pretty hopeless here... Here is some code: class Category_info(models.Model): objtree_label_id = models.AutoField(primary_key = True) node_id = models.IntegerField(unique = True) language_id = models.IntegerField() label = models.CharField(max_length = 255) type_id = models.IntegerField() class Meta: db_table = 'objtree_labels' def __unicode__(self): return self.label I have even tried with return u"%s" % self.label. • Jquery class changing works, but doesn't effect another function like it should

  So I have content boxes that close and expand when you click an arrow. The content box has two classes for telling whether it is open or closed (.box_open, .box_closed). A hover function is assigned to box_open so when it is open and you hover over the header, the arrow appears. However, I don't want this to happen when the box is closed, as I want to arrow to remain visible when the box is closed. When the box closes, the box_open class is removed, but the function assigned to that class still works. Here's the jquery code for the two functions. I mean, in all other conditions that are used in the code it works fine: the correct Form classes are intantiated and it all works. But if extra.is_hidden(), the debugger shows that the condition is passed and it goes to the next line and does nothing! As a result I get a UnboundLocalVar error which says FormClass hasn't been asssigned at all. Any ideas on what's happening?

Any ideas ? I know its lot but i really would like to use existing code to build upon so i can focus on business rules. Could splitting the requirements on 3 or 4 existing open source framework be possible ? Do u have any suggestion to add to the list before starting ? What open source tools would u use to achieve these ?

• Changing character encoding in MySQL, PHP scripts, HTML

  So, I have built on this system for quite some time, and it is currently outputting Latin1 (ISO-8859-1) to the web browser, and this is the components: MySQL - all data is stored with the Latin1 character set PHP - All PHP text files are stored on disk with Latin1 encoding HTML - The output has the http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" meta tag So, I'm trying to understand how the encoding of the different parts come into play in my workflow. If I open a PHP script and change its encoding within the text editor to UTF-8 and save it back to disk and reload the web browser, the text is all messed up - unless the text comes from the DB. If I change the encoding of the DB to UTF-8 and keep the PHP files in latin1 I have to use utf8_decode() for the data to display correctly. And if I change the HTML code the browser will read it incorrectly. So yeah, I realise that if I want to "upgrade" to UTF8, I have to update all three parts of this setup for it to work correctly, but since it's a huge system with some 180k lines of PHP code and millions of posts in a lot of databases/tables, I don't want to start something like this without understanding everything correctly. What haven't I thought about? What could mess this up beyond fixing? What are the procedures for changing the encoding of an entire MySQL installation and what's the easiest way to change the encoding of hundreds or thousands of PHP files on disk? The META tag is luckily added dynamically, so I'll change that in one place only :) Let me hear about your experiences with this.

• Is JPA persistence.xml classpath located?

  Here's what I'm trying to do. I'm using JPA persistence in a web application, but I have a set of unit tests that I want to run outside of a container. I have my primary persistence.xml in the META_INF folder of my main app and it works great in the container (Glassfish). I placed a second persistence.xml in the META-INF folder of my test-classes directory. This contains a separate persistence unit that I want to use for test only. In eclipse, I placed this folder higher in the classpath than the default folder and it seems to work. Now when I run the maven build directly from the command line and it attempts to run the unit tests, the persistence.xml override is ignored. I can see the override in the META-INF folder of the maven generated test-classes directory and I expected the maven tests to use this file, but it isn't. My Spring test configuration overrides, achieved in a similar fashion are working. I'm confused at to whether the persistence.xml is located through the classpath. If it were, my override should work like the spring override since the maven surefire plugin explains "[The test class directory] will be included at the beginning the test classpath". Did I wrongly anticipate how the persistence.xml file is located? I could (and have) create a second persistence unit in the production persistence.xml file, but it feels dirty to place test configuration into this production file. Any other ideas on how to achieve my goal is welcome.

  What is the best way to embed data in html elements for later use? As an example, let's say we have jQuery returning some JSON from the server, and we want to dump that datat out to the user as paragraphs. However, we want to be able to attach meta-data to these elements, so we can events for these later. • django: How to make one form from multiple models containing foreignkeys

  I am trying to make a form on one page that uses multiple models. The models reference each other. I am having trouble getting the form to validate because I cant figure out how to get the id of two of the models used in the form into the form to validate it. • Eclipse - Import existing mult-rep CVS project folder

  Hey guys, Wondering if anyone can help me out with eclipse in terms of importing an existing CVS managed project. I am currently trying to shift my work on to the eclipse IDE. Some details about my project and environment below. I'm working in Linux Ubuntu, the project folder is located on a mounted shared network drive, I have installed the "Eclipse CVS Client" plug-in for my version of eclipse (helios). I've tried many ways for eclipse to use my existing folder as a project and recognize the CVS data in the CVS folders. I have done the following options: Created a new project, selected existing source, located my project folder and clicked OK to finish creating. In the end the CVS files weren't automatically read. Did the same as above and after project creation I wen to the option "project menu-team-share project", it asks me to choose a repository and doesn't automatically find the CVS information in the subfolders. If your wondering I have set-up both repositories in my eclipse and can browse the repositories through the CVS browser. My project directory layout is like this: +-Project Folder (no CVS folder at this level) +---Repo A folder +-----CVS meta-info folder is INSIDE, along with all checked out files from Repo A + +---Repo B folder +-----CVS meta-info folder is INSIDE, along with all checked out files from Repo B + +-(couple of random files, not in CVS) Thanks for the help

• Detect remote charset in php

  Hello, I would like to determine a remote page's encoding through detection of the Content-Type header tag <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=XXXXX" /> if present. I retrieve the remote page and try to do a regex to find the required setting if present. I am still learning hence the problem below... Here is what I have: $EncStart = 'charset='; $EncEnd = '" \/\>'; preg_match( "/$EncStart(.*)$EncEnd/s", $RemoteContent, $RemoteEncoding ); echo = $RemoteEncoding[ 1 ]; The above does indeed echo the name of the encoding but it does not know where to stop so it prints out the rest of the line then most of the rest of the remote page in my test. Example: When testing a remote russian page it printed: windows-1251" / rest of page .... Which means that $EncStart was okay, but the $EncEnd part of the regex failed to stop the matching. This meta header usually ends in 3 different possibility after the name of the encoding. "> | "/> | " /> I do not know weather this is usable to satisfy the end of the maching and if yes how to escape it. I played with different ways of doing it but none worked.   I have created demo app using Ionic with Worklight and it worked on Android but got error on IOS, when i used mobile browser simulator and debugged on IOS environment, i got the folowing error message: Uncaught InvalidCharacterError: Failed to execute 'add' on 'DOMTokenList': The token provided ('platform-ios - iphone') contains HTML space characters, which are not valid in tokens. • How to make the value of one select box drive the options of a second select box

  I want to make an HTML form with 2 select boxes. The selected option in the first select box should drive the options in the second select box. I would like to solve this dynamically on the client (using javascript or jQuery) rather than having to submit data to the server. For example, let's say I have the following Menu Categories and Menu Items: Sandwiches Turkey Ham Bacon Sides Mac 'n Cheese Mashed Potatoes Drinks Coca Cola Sprite Sweetwater 420 I would have two select boxes, named Menu Category and Items, respectively. When the user selects Sandwiches in the Menu Category box, the options in the Items box will only show Sandwich options. I'm stuck as how I might approach this. Once I filter out the 2nd list one time, how do I "find" the list options once I change my menu category in the 1st list? Also, if I'm thinking in SQL, I would have a key in the 1st box that would be used to link to the data in the 2nd box. However, I can't see where I have room for a "key" element in the 2nd box. How could this problem be solved with a combination of jQuery or plain javascript?

• Corrupt UTF-8 Characters with PHP 5.2.10 and MySQL 5.0.81

  We have an application hosted on both a local development server and a live site. We are experiencing UTF-8 corruption issues and are looking to figure out how to resolve them. The system is run using symfony 1.0 with Propel. On our development server, we are running PHP 5.2.0 and MySQL 5.0.32. We do not experience corrupted UTF-8 characters there. On our live site, PHP 5.2.10 and MySQL 5.0.81 is running. On that server, certain characters such as ô´ and S are corrupted once they are stored in the database. The corrupted characters are showing up as either question marks or approximations of the original character with adjacent question marks. Examples of corruption: Uncorrupted: ô´ Corrupted: ô? Uncorrupted: S Corrupted: ? We are currently using the following techniques on both development and live servers: Executing the following queries prior to execution of any other queries: SET NAMES 'utf8' COLLATE 'utf8_unicode_ci' SET CHARSET 'utf8' Setting the <meta> Content-Type value to: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Adding the following to our .htaccess file: AddDefaultCharset utf-8 Using mb_* (multibyte) PHP functions where necessary. Being sure to set database columns to use utf8_unicode_ci collation. These techniques are sufficient for our development site, but do not work on the live site. On the live site I've also tried adding mysql_set_encoding('ut8', $mysql_connection) but this does not help either. I have found some evidence that newer versions of PHP and MySQL are mishandling UTF-8 character encodings.

But i would like that if user scrolls down, first the tittle appears, then the content and at the end the images. And then when user scrolls to the next box, the same process repeat's itself. I use some CSS3 delays, but in this case i don't know how long will user take to scroll down. thanks!

• Kindle Fire Cant Fit My Webpage inside a Webview of specific size

  This is baffling to me. Please help, I could not figure it out ... In my sample html file I have set the meta tag to be <meta name="viewport" content="target-densitydpi=device-dpi, user-scalable=no"> to fit the webpage inside my webview of custom size say 800x600. In Android, I had to specify "target-densitydpi=device-dpi" and it did the job nicely. I tested my custom web page with nexus 7 tablet and the web page fits inside my web view correctly. The same code does not work in Kindle Fire. Only a part of my web page is shown and even if I set the 'initial-scale=1.0' did not help. I tried various settings programmatically but it did not help either. webview.getSettings().setBuiltInZoomControls(true); webview.getSettings().setSupportZoom(true); webview.getSettings().setLoadWithOverviewMode(true); webview.setInitialScale(1); webview.getSettings().setUseWideViewPort(true); Any pointers?

Any ideas ? I know its lot but i really would like to use existing code to build upon so i can focus on business rules. Do u have any suggestion to add to the list before starting ? What open source tools would u use to achieve these ?

  I was wondering what happens to methods declared on a metaclass. I expected that if you declare a method on a metaclass, it will end up being a classmethod, however, the behavior is different.
