  • Latency on mobile networks (Android)

    I am planning to give mobile phone development a shot and was thinking about making some simple multiplayer games. I know latency over local wifi is probably fine but what are the issues with latency over GPRS/3G? I've searched and the best I've seen is someone saying it was 'high', without presenting any concrete numbers. I suppose latency fluctuations are important as well - does anyone have any info on this?

    Trying to get a thread to change form controls in Windows Mobile. Throws an unsupported exception. Does this mean it cant be done at all? If not, how do I go about this? Forms are created in the Parent/Main thread then a thread is created to do some work in the background but I want to make it so the Background thread can update the form to show its completed...

    We have JSF web application that generates XLS file and gives user link to thes file. All works fine if access this file via HTTP. But IE(8) cannot open/save this xls file via HTTPS. There is following error message: Internet Explorer cannot download ...466088C5C313F92808BDB0AFF3447 from testhost. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. I can open the same document via HTTPS in Firefox and in Chrome. What can be the problem with IE?   • Ajax Rich Internet Application framework for Linux + Firefox _AND_ iPhone consumption

    For a zero-budget (e.g. University) project we need to build a rich web UI for Firefox and iPhone clients. Firm requirement: all technologies to be free and open-source. Nice-to-have: all development to be done in Java/Eclipse. I generally like the Google's AppEngine + GWT combo but this project will require much more interactivity than what's in GWT 2.0. Something along the lines of: http://www.smartclient.com/smartgwt/showcase/. I know trusty plain ol' GWT won't cut it this time. Straight question: is there something that does the sort of thing that SmartGWT does and works really well on Safari/iPhone? I would say the mobile experience is even more important for this project than the desktop one. Optional question: perhaps this is not the best route to go at all? How could we otherwise render a rich UI with such capabilities and interactivity on both screen sizes? Windows, drag-and-drop, advanced tabs, dynamic grids... We don't need to support any other mobile devices. Yet. ;-)

    When I'm travelling I would like to use my iPhone's mobile hotspot feature to provide Internet access for my Windows 7 laptop. However, my mobile data plan has a limit on the amount of data I can use per month, and I would like to restrict Internet access to a few very specific applications (such as a database administration tool and Chrome). Is it possible to create a firewall profile for use with mobile data access? If not, what tools exist that could assist me?

  • Configuration Tips for better Performance with ADF Mobile Apps

    Some tips to keep in mind to make sure ADF Mobile application's performance is optimal: 1. Select release mode in deployment profile. This is perhaps the most important thing to remember to ensure best performance for ADF Mobile Apps. Selecting this option causes the deployer to package optimized JVM and minified JS libs with the mobile app there by significantly improving the over all performance of the application. 2. For iOS you do not need to do anything else other than selecting  release mode in deploy profile. However, on Android you have to create a keystore and configure it in JDev --> Tools --> Preferences --> ADF Mobile --> Platforms : Android as shown in the snapshot below 3. Steps for generating the Keystore for Android using keytool :  4. Logging level setting in logging.properties: Make sure the log level is set to SEVERE for both framework logger as well as the application logger as follows oracle.adfmf.framework.level=SEVERE oracle.adfmf.application.level=SEVERE 5. When using SOAP WebServices with WebService Data Control make sure you select the option to copy the WSDL. This will cause the JDev to download the WSDL and all the XSDs referenced by the WSDL from the server at design time and package them with the application during deployment. This way the application does not incur the cost of downloading these resources at run time from the device.

  • Accessing Secure Web Services from ADF Mobile

    Most of the enterprise Web services you'll access are going to be secured - meaning they'll require you to pass a user/password in order to get to their data.  If you never created a secured Web service, it's simple in JDeveloper! For the below video I just right clicked on a Java class that I exposed as a Web service, and chose  "Web Service Properties" and then checked the "oracle/wss_username_token_service_policy" box from the list of options (that's the option supported by ADF Mobile right now): In the demo below we are going to use a "remote" login server that does the authentication of the user/pass.The easiest way to "create" a remote login server is to create a "regular" web ADF application, secure it, and deploy it on a server. The secured ADF application can just require ADF Authentication with a simple HTTP Basic Authentication - basically the next two images in the Application->Secure->Configure ADF Security menu wizard. ok - so now you have a secured ADF application - deploy it on a server and get the URL for that application.  From this point on you'll see the process in the video which deals with the configuration of your ADF Mobile app. First you'll need to enable security for your ADF mobile application, so it will prompt users to provide a user/pass combination. You'll also need to configure security on specific features. And you can have them use remote login pointing to your regular secured ADF application. Next define your Web service data control. Right click on the web service data control to "define Web Service Security". You'll also need to define the adfCredentialStoreKey property for the Web Service data control in the connections.xml file. This should be it.   • internet explorer ashx file problem

    My problem is a bit complicated: I am writing in c#, asp.net and using jquery I have a page that sends requests to the server using jquery's ajax method. I have a ashx file (handler) to respond to these request. User can perform several changes on several pages, then use some method that will call the ajax method. My ashx file reads some values From the session variables and acts accordingly. This works fine in all browsers but in internet explorer. In internet explorer the session seems to hold old information (old user ids'). It's incredible, the same code works fine in firefox, chrome and safari but fails with ie. What could be causing it? I have no clue where to even start looking for a solution. btw, Sorry for the general title, couldn't figure out how to explain in just few words. Thank You!

  • Connect to internet with Qt for symbian

    I'm creating a Qt Symbian application and need to connect to internet. In some way I need to let the user choose a connection when the app starts. I could use Qt Mobility to get it working but when Nokia approves I wan't do publish my application on Ovi Store. As the Qt Mobility is not included in Qt 4.6 it might be a problem to publish my app later. So for this reason I'm thinking of using native APIs instead. The idea is to use: qt_SetDefaultIap() to set the connection on start. I have been looking at this to actually understand what it is doing. If I have two connections that the app could use, one with WIFI and one through mobile internet, which one will qt_SetDefaultIap() choose? And can I in some way with native api make the user choose a connection on start up? (qt_SetDefaultIap seems to just set a default connection on its own, without user choice) Thanks!

  • Debugging JavaScript in Internet Explorer

    I am working on a relatively complex JavaScript-driven website. It runs great in all browsers except Internet Explorer. I am getting this very curious error: "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 93,865,600. Error: Expected ';'" The issue is, I don't have 93 million lines of code, and clicking "Yes" doesn't attach to Visual Studio like it normally does. I can click on 'No' and the website continues to run fine, but if a user doesn't have JavaScript debugging disabled, I don't want them to see this meaningless error. Suggestions/Tools/Plugins to get to the bottom of this? And yeah, I learned my lesson, switch over and check my project in Internet Explorer more often... Thanks,

  • Internet and Intellisense bad for your memory?

    Having programmed for a while now I have noticed that I am becoming more and more reliant on the internet and intellisense to do my job. But I was wondering how much that has effected my knowledge over the past year or so. But does this matter? For example I am more likely now to remember that when I need to program against objects I have no knowledge about, I will go to the System.Reflection namespace and a quick look down the list will provide me with enough detail to get going again. But if you was to ask me which classes etc are required I would struggle to name them all. This problem of remembering seems to manifest itself more when going for interviews when people seem to focus more on the minute detail of obscure areas of the .NET framework and not on the wide and varied knowledge and experience of the applicant. Anyway I digress. Does anyone else think that maybe its time to turn of the intellisense and try and find better ways to learn, then quick fixes and work arounds of the internet?

    Hi I am using Windows mobile 6.0 classic PDA's , I want to use wireless to access my service on the server(Win 2008), what should be my settings in the PDA network management? here's what my settings which works for some PDA's and for some it works for some time and stops? and for some PDA's similar settings does not work at all?? "Programs that connect to the internet..." = ISP "Programs that connect to a private network..." = My Work Network BTW what is this My work network ??? i don't understand as my PDA's use wireless (with proxy) i wud guess ISP to both should work right? but when i change second option to ISP as well the PDA that can connect to internet and server thru PDA IE but not through .netCF application will not get connected at all, but will work fine (apart from .netCF application accessing the server) if i change the second option back to My work network, so basically PDA is not using the first option of ISP at all ?? All i want to know is 1.) correct settings for WM 6.0 classic wirelessly accesing server 2008 with proxy 2) explain what is my work network ? Thanks gauls
