• Can I properly use NS2 on latest Ubuntu 12.04?

  I am a novice user for Ubuntu because I need to work with NS2. NS2 properly work only in Linux, Ubuntu. Now, I wonder if it can properly work on latest version Ubuntu. My current window is Window7. I also want to use Window7. So, which one will be better on parallel booting of Window 7 and Ubuntu or using VMWare on Window7 to install Ubuntu. My RAM is 4G. My processor speed is 1.6G. If I use VMWare, my C drive is only extra 10G. So, does VMWare can work properly in D drive? Please let me know which way is the best for my situation. I hope the advice from anyone. • Can't restart from Ubuntu 12.10

  I am dual-booting Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 8 Pro. Both run seamlessly but I've had the persistent issue of not being able to restart my machine properly from Ubuntu. If I am on Ubuntu and hit the 'Restart..' option, the screen turns off and Ubuntu shuts down, but the computer never turns off and grub bootloader never shows on the screen. However, rebooting from Windows gets me to the bootloader as it should. Turning off the machine completely with 'Shut down' works fine with both Ubuntu and Windows as well. This issue was present even when I was dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 Starter as well. My computer is an Acer AOD257 with 2 GB RAM, Intel Atom N570 Processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  I was trying to see the effect of time slicing. And how it can consume significant amount of time. Actually, I was trying to divide a certain work into number of threads and see the effect. I have a two core processor. So two threads can run in parallel. I was trying to see if I have a work w that is done by 2 threads, and if I have the same work done by t threads with each thread doing w/t of the work. How much does time slicing play a role in it As time slicing is time consuming process, I was expecting that when I do the same work using a two thread process or by a t thread process, the amount of time taken by the t thread process will be more Any suggestions?

• grub-install dummy fails. this is a fatal error

  I am new to this but I have watched many video how to dual boot Ubuntu with windows 8. I have HP pavilion g6 notebook with 4 GB RAM and Intel i5 processor. I am installing Ubuntu 13.10 with windows 8. In the process of installation I select something else then make some partion as mentioned here. /dev/sda6. 2048 mb of swap area /dev/sda7. 18 GB of / And then I click on install. When installation starts it stuck when grub is installing And message arose as grub install dummy fails. This is a fatal error. I have searched about this on Google many others have faced same problem but none of them helped me. I think the problem is of uefi system. Is there any way so I can dual boot Ubuntu with windows 8.

• Not sure which Ubuntu to install (64 or 32 bit)

  I want to use Ubuntu. I have Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit right now... I used to have 64 on this laptop (Toshiba Satellite c650) but my disc got a ring of death. Intel Penium CPU B940 2.00GHz, 4GB RAM Also, I'm guessing I need an image mounter such as PowerISO to install Ubuntu, if I don't have a DVD lying around that I can mount to? I'm a noob. Thanks for your help, in advance. EDIT: My question wasn't clear... can my processor and RAM handle 64-bit Ubuntu? Hell of a lot nicer than Win7

• Ubuntu 14.04 not booting before Windows 8.1

  I try too boot my computer into Ubuntu, but I end up having to manually select Ubuntu from the devices menu, even though it was supposed to boot first. Instead Windows 8 boots up like Ubuntu isn't even there! And GRUB works just fine when Ubuntu is selected in the boot device menu. (How else am I on?) I tried using EasyBCD but kept getting errors from the windows boot manager. And just in case it helps, during installation of Ubuntu it didn't recognize windows 8, and I had to resize and install manually. Anything I can do? Notes: EVERYONE!!! GRUB WORKS PERFECTLY!!! IT IS AN ERROR IN THE HP BOOT MENU AS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SAID!!! PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ME ANSWERS FOR GRUB EDITS IN THE FUTURE!!!   Remember this beauty? I'm playing it now on my old Amiga 1200. My question is: How do you think they represented the terrain, data structure wise? Obviously it's some kind of points, with a height. Or hexagons. And how did they decide which dots were buildable? EDIT: I could rephrase the question to say "how do I achieve this kind of terrain", but I would still only be interested in how to do it on a machine with 1 MB of RAM and a 7 Mhz processor, because this is the machine i currently developing games for. If that seems like a vague or meaningless question to you, that's alright, but I'm still curious if someone has any knowledge about this.

• Ubuntu won't boot on windows starter

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS yesterday from a usb, but it only boots into Windows unless the usb is in, then it boots into the Ubuntu loader where I can choose Ubuntu vs. Windows. What's the problem? I run windows starter on a netbook with 1 gb ram and intel atom processor. I tried to install boot-repair but it won't work either. I follow the instructions for the Terminal and it seems to go right until I try launching it - then it says that it does not know the command boot-repair. I really like Ubuntu, it lets this netbook run smoothly and better than ever before but I don't think I want to boot from a usb every time.

• 12.04 install now just blank screen

  I have attempted to install a new copy of 12.04 using usb stick instead of using download manager. Everything went fine while using usb stick until I restarted after installation was complete. Then, I got the screen with cursor and 4 lines of script with the first line saying "could not write to bytes: broken pipes". I have used several versions of Ubuntu from 6.04, but this one seems broken. I have tried nouveau.blacklist and many other suggestions to no luck. I am using hp pavilion m7790y dual core processor system, with nvidia 7600gt video card, 4gb ram and two hard drives with Vista on one and fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 on other. I'm still looking for help to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

• My site will not process Credit Cards [closed]

  Authorized.net was processing my credit card purchases until the end of Feb. As of 3/1/2011 they no longer will process electronic cigarette transactions. Processing network told us we would have a seamless transition over to a processor called EPN. Now we can not process and credit card orders at all. I have been told it's an SSL concern (EPN says no) I have been told it's an issue between Authorized.net and EPN again I am told no. Might site worked and functioned fine until the "seamless" transition took place. Please help me out here. Thanks Dave

• Screen rendering problems after upgrading to 12.10

  Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 I'm suffering severe rendering issues in unity: Some parts of any application (for instance Firefox, or emacs, etc) are blank, or are not rendered, or are blinking. Some fonts in an application are not correct rendered, maybe only some part (see Eclipse screenshot). There is some shadows in desktop background. It's something that occurs from time to time (it's works great for hours and suddenly start to give this rendering problems). I was trying to find a bug in launchpad but without success. My card (using i915 module): 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0042] (rev 02) I've tried to reset compiz/unity or gnome but does not help. My application is using the following APIs: maven-jetty-plugin (version 6.1.10) maven-compiler-plugin (version 2.3.1) myfaces-api & -impl (version 1.2.7) jsf-facelets (version 1.1.14) richfaces (version 3.3.3) javax servlet jstl (version 1.2) javax servlet-api (version 2.5) and some other plugins as well.   Hi, I'm working on establishing interoperability between .NET WCF 3.5 and Axis2/Rampart using ADFS2 as the STS and using SAML authentication. Initially I used Axis 1.4.1/Rampart 1.4 but in an attempt to rule out issues relating to WS-* standards compatbility have also created a duplicate environment running Axis 1.5.1/Rampart 1.5. Both envionment use Eclipse 3.5.1 (Galileo)/Tomcat 5.5 for the Java service side. My objective is: WCF-ADFS2-SAML token-Axis2/Rampart Using Kerberos authentication to obtain a SAML token from ADFS2 and propagating this to Rampart.   So apparently it is possible to keep the processor going processing stuff while the screen is locked, as indicated here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1551712/running-iphone-apps-while-in-sleep-mode However, after testing with the example code, UIAccelerometer will just stop giving value as soon as the device is locked pronto. Is there a way to force otherwise?
