  • 'strcpy' error and warning

    - by Leejo
I'm getting a 'strcpy' error and warning for the following lines: _tcscpy(strCommandLine,_T("MyProgram.exe /param1")); _tcscpy(strApplicationName,_T("MyProgram.exe")); Not sure why I'm getting a 'strcpy' error or warning since I'm not using 'strcpy'. The only lines related to this is: LPCTSTR strApplicationName; LPTSTR strCommandLine; _tcscpy(strCommandLine,_T("MyProgram.exe /param1")); //warning is on this line _tcscpy(strApplicationName,_T("MyProgram.exe")); //error is on this line The output is: 1c:\documents and settings\X.X\my documents\sandbox\sample.cpp(52) : warning C4996: 'strcpy': This function or variable may be unsafe. • C function const multidimensional-array argument strange warning

    - by rogi
Ehllo, I'm getting some strange warning about this code: typedef double mat4[4][4]; void mprod4(mat4 r, const mat4 a, const mat4 b) { /* yes, function is empty */ } int main() { mat4 mr, ma, mb; mprod4(mr, ma, mb); } gcc output as follows: $ gcc -o test test.c test.c: In function 'main': test.c:13: warning: passing argument 2 of 'mprod4' from incompatible pointer type test.c:4: note: expected 'const double (*)[4]' but argument is of type 'double (*)[4]' test.c:13: warning: passing argument 3 of 'mprod4' from incompatible pointer type test.c:4: note: expected 'const double ()[4]' but argument is of type 'double ()[4]' defining the function as: void mprod4(mat4 r, mat4 a, mat4 b) { } OR defining matrices at main as: mat4 mr; const mat4 ma; const mat4 mb; OR calling teh function in main as: mprod4(mr, (const double(*)[4])ma, (const double(*)[4])mb); OR even defining mat4 as: typedef double mat4[16]; make teh warning go away. Wat is happening here? Am I doing something invalid? gcc version is 4.4.3 if relevant. Thanks for your attention.

  • Persistent warning message about "initWithDelegate"!

    - by RickiG
Hi This is not an actual Xcode error message, it is a warning that has been haunting me for a long time. I have found no way of removing it and I think I maybe have overstepped some unwritten naming convention rule. If I build a class, most often extending NSObject, whose only purpose is to do some task and report back when it has data, I often give it a convenience constructor like "initWithDelegate". The first time I did this in my current project was for a class called ISWebservice which has a protocol like this: @protocol ISWebserviceDelegate @optional - (void) serviceFailed:(NSError*) error; - (void) serviceSuccess:(NSArray*) data; @required @end Declared in my ISWebservice.h interface, right below my import statements. I have other classes that uses a convenience constructor named "initWithDelegate". E.g. "InternetConnectionLost.h", this class does not however have its methods as optional, there are no @optional @required tags in the declaration, i.e. they are all required. Now my warning pops up every time I instantiate one of these Classes with convenience constructors written later than the ISWebservice, so when utilizing the "InternetConnectionLost" class, even though the entire Class owning the "InternetConnectionLost" object has nothing to do with the "ISWebservice" Class, no imports, methods being called, no nothing, the warning goes: 'ClassOwningInternetConnectionLost' does not implement the 'ISWebserviceDelegate' protocol I does not break anything, crash at runtime or do me any harm, but it has begun to bug me as I near release. Also, because several classes use the "initWithDelegate" constructor naming, I have 18 of these warnings in my build results and I am getting uncertain if I did something wrong, being fairly new at this language. Hope someone can shed a little light on this warning, thank you:)

  • Emacs 23.2 opens a new window for each compile error/warning navigated to

    - by Grant Limberg
I've recently upgraded from Carbon Emacs (v22.3) to vanilla Emacs 23.2 (from http://www.emacsformacosx.com). On Carbon Emacs when compiling a project, The frame is split in two with the current source file/SConscript in the top window, and the compile output in the bottom window. I'd hit C-x ` to navigate to the first warning or error in the compile output and it would replace whatever was in the top window with the source file the error or warning is in. In Emacs 23.2, however, a 3rd window is opened causing two windows open in the top half of the frame (split vertically) and the compile output in the window of the bottom half of the frame. How do I tell Emacs to not open a new window and instead open the code in the the existing non-compiler output window in the frame? A little further clarification on the behavior that I just noticed. If I hit C-x ` while the buffer containing the source file or SConscript file is active, no new window is opened. It's only if I'm manually navigating through the *compilation* buffer and hitting enter on an error or warning, or mouse clicking on a warning when a third buffer window appears.

  • Code Analysis Warning CA1004 with generic method

    - by Vaccano
I have the following generic method: // Load an object from the disk public static T DeserializeObject<T>(String filename) where T : class { XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(T)); try { TextReader textReader = new StreamReader(filename); var result = (T)xmlSerializer.Deserialize(textReader); textReader.Close(); return result; } catch (FileNotFoundException) { } return null; } When I compile I get the following warning: CA1004 : Microsoft.Design : Consider a design where 'MiscHelpers.DeserializeObject(string)' doesn't require explicit type parameter 'T' in any call to it. I have considered this and I don't know a way to do what it requests with out limiting the types that can be deserialized. I freely admit that I might be missing an easy way to fix this. But if I am not, then is my only recourse to suppress this warning? I have a clean project with no warnings or messages. I would like to keep it that way. I guess I am asking "why this is a warning?" At best this seems like it should be a message. And even that seems a bit much. Either it can or it can't be fixed. If it can't then you are just stuck with the warning with no recourse but suppressing it. Am I wrong?

  • When is a bool not a bool (compiler warning C4800)

    - by omatai
Consider this being compiled in MS Visual Studio 2005 (and probably others): CPoint point1( 1, 2 ); CPoint point2( 3, 4 ); const bool point1And2Identical( point1 == point2 ); // C4800 warning const bool point1And2TheSame( ( point1 == point2 ) == TRUE ); // no warning What the...? Is the MSVC compiler brain-dead? As far as I can tell, TRUE is #defined as 1, without any type information. So by what magic is there any difference between these two lines? Surely the type of the expression inside the brackets is the same in both cases? [This part of the question now satisfactorily answered in the comments just below] Personally, I think that avoiding the warning by using the == TRUE option is ugly (though less ugly than the != 0 alternative, despite being more strictly correct), and it is better to use #pragma warning( disable:4800 ) to imply "my code is good, the compiler is an ass". Agree? Note - I have seen all manner of discussion on C4800 talking about assigning ints to bools, or casting a burger combo with large fries (hold the onions) to a bool, and wondering why there are strange results. I can't find a clear answer on what seems like a much simpler question... that might just shine line on C4800 in general.

  • Open file - Security warning

    - by joker
Does anyone know how to disable the unknown publisher security warning when running an application in Windows Xp Home? It's pretty annoying to have to click run everytime... I have tried: Run gpedit.msc, and go to Local Computer Policy-User Configuration-Administrative Templates-Windows Components-Attachment Manager and enable "Default risk level for file attachments", and then enable "Inclusion list for low risk file types" and add to this list the file extensions that you want to open without triggering this crap. But this file 'gpedit.msc' doest not exist on my computer, i checked system32 folder also =/ maybe its for xp pro

  • Email: X-Authentication-Warning

    - by stef
We're sending out 1000's of mails per day from our site (mainly "click here to verify your subscription") and too many are getting flagged by spam (mainly hotmail). One of the things I noticed in the headers is X-Authentication-Warning: srv01.site.com: www-data set sender to [email protected] using -f Is this something I should be worried about, that may cause spam flags to raise? (I'm already checking various issues that have been mentioned regarding spam flagging over at stackoverflow, I know there are many factors in play)

  • What development technologies or technology stack is typically used in the security industry?

    - by vfilby
In this case security means building security (access control, alarm systems, etc). And I am not talking about working directly with the hardware, more focused on web based applications/api's that clients or companies can use? Are there technologies that are commonly used? Are there technologies that shouldn't be used? Are there any real benefits to a linux based stack as opposed to a windows based stack for exposing web based applications?

When I double click to install a reg file I get this warning: Adding information can unintentionally change or delete values and cause components to stop working correctly.
