  • Where should I create my DbCommand instances?

    - by Domenic
    I seemingly have two choices: Make my class implement IDisposable. Create my DbCommand instances as private readonly fields, and in the constructor, add the parameters that they use. Whenever I want to write to the database, bind to these parameters (reusing the same command instances), set the Connection and Transaction properties, then call ExecuteNonQuery. In the Dispose method, call Dispose on each of these fields. Each time I want to write to the database, write using(var cmd = new DbCommand("...", connection, transaction)) around the usage of the command, and add parameters and bind to them every time as well, before calling ExecuteNonQuery. I assume I don't need a new command for each query, just a new command for each time I open the database (right?). Both of these seem somewhat inelegant and possibly incorrect. For #1, it is annoying for my users that I this class is now IDisposable just because I have used a few DbCommands (which should be an implementation detail that they don't care about). I also am somewhat suspicious that keeping a DbCommand instance around might inadvertently lock the database or something? For #2, it feels like I'm doing a lot of work (in terms of .NET objects) each time I want to write to the database, especially with the parameter-adding. It seems like I create the same object every time, which just feels like bad practice. For reference, here is my current code, using #1: using System; using System.Net; using System.Data.SQLite; public class Class1 : IDisposable { private readonly SQLiteCommand updateCookie = new SQLiteCommand("UPDATE moz_cookies SET value = @value, expiry = @expiry, isSecure = @isSecure, isHttpOnly = @isHttpOnly WHERE name = @name AND host = @host AND path = @path"); public Class1() { this.updateCookie.Parameters.AddRange(new[] { new SQLiteParameter("@name"), new SQLiteParameter("@value"), new SQLiteParameter("@host"), new SQLiteParameter("@path"), new SQLiteParameter("@expiry"), new SQLiteParameter("@isSecure"), new SQLiteParameter("@isHttpOnly") }); } private static void BindDbCommandToMozillaCookie(DbCommand command, Cookie cookie) { long expiresSeconds = (long)cookie.Expires.TotalSeconds; command.Parameters["@name"].Value = cookie.Name; command.Parameters["@value"].Value = cookie.Value; command.Parameters["@host"].Value = cookie.Domain; command.Parameters["@path"].Value = cookie.Path; command.Parameters["@expiry"].Value = expiresSeconds; command.Parameters["@isSecure"].Value = cookie.Secure; command.Parameters["@isHttpOnly"].Value = cookie.HttpOnly; } public void WriteCurrentCookiesToMozillaBasedBrowserSqlite(string databaseFilename) { using (SQLiteConnection connection = new SQLiteConnection("Data Source=" + databaseFilename)) { connection.Open(); using (SQLiteTransaction transaction = connection.BeginTransaction()) { this.updateCookie.Connection = connection; this.updateCookie.Transaction = transaction; foreach (Cookie cookie in SomeOtherClass.GetCookieArray()) { Class1.BindDbCommandToMozillaCookie(this.updateCookie, cookie); this.updateCookie.ExecuteNonQuery(); } transaction.Commit(); } } } #region IDisposable implementation protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (!this.disposed && disposing) { this.updateCookie.Dispose(); } this.disposed = true; } public void Dispose() { this.Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } ~Class1() { this.Dispose(false); } private bool disposed; #endregion }

  • Kernel oops on Linux running in VirtualBox breaks some IO-related functionality on the server

    - by Kristoffer E
    We are having problems with CentOS release 6.3 running in VirtualBox on Windows 7 machines. The symptoms are the following: Everything works as normal for several hours, even days. Then something happens which breaks the system. What we still can do after this something happens: Access the web server Use existing SSH sessions to run top and free What does not work: Starting new SSH sessions (hangs after username and password is entered) Running ls in existing SSH sessions (hangs) SSI includes from our web servers that fetch data from remote machines probably more What we see on the server when this something happens is the following: Load average go from basically nothing to around 3 CPU usage is still low (5%) Disk activity is low (running iostat) Plenty of memory available Plenty of disk space available In /var/log/messages we get the following: Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Detected Tx Unit Hang Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: Tx Queue <0> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: TDH <2e> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: TDT <30> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_use <30> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_clean <2e> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: buffer_info[next_to_clean] Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: time_stamp <1038284db> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_watch <2f> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: jiffies <103828b42> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_watch.status <0> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Detected Tx Unit Hang Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: Tx Queue <0> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: TDH <2e> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: TDT <30> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_use <30> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_clean <2e> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: buffer_info[next_to_clean] Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: time_stamp <1038284db> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_watch <2f> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: jiffies <103829312> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_watch.status <0> Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: WARNING: at net/sched/sch_generic.c:261 dev_watchdog+0x26d/0x280() (Not tainted) Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Hardware name: VirtualBox Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (e1000): transmit queue 0 timed out Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Modules linked in: vboxsf(U) ipv6 ppdev parport_pc parport microcode sg vboxguest(U) i2c_piix4 i2c_core e1000 snd_intel8x0 snd_ac97_codec ac97_bus snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_pcm snd_timer snd soundcore snd_page_alloc pcnet32 mii ext4 mbcache jbd2 sd_mod crc_t10dif ahci dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod [last unloaded: scsi_wait_scan] Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Pid: 0, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64 #1 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Call Trace: Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: <IRQ> [<ffffffff8106b747>] ? warn_slowpath_common+0x87/0xc0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8106b836>] ? warn_slowpath_fmt+0x46/0x50 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff814595fd>] ? dev_watchdog+0x26d/0x280 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81099138>] ? sched_clock_cpu+0xb8/0x110 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81459390>] ? dev_watchdog+0x0/0x280 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8107e897>] ? run_timer_softirq+0x197/0x340 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff810a21c0>] ? tick_sched_timer+0x0/0xc0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8102b40d>] ? lapic_next_event+0x1d/0x30 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81073ec1>] ? __do_softirq+0xc1/0x1e0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81096c50>] ? hrtimer_interrupt+0x140/0x250 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100c24c>] ? call_softirq+0x1c/0x30 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100de85>] ? do_softirq+0x65/0xa0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81073ca5>] ? irq_exit+0x85/0x90 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81505be0>] ? smp_apic_timer_interrupt+0x70/0x9b Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100bc13>] ? apic_timer_interrupt+0x13/0x20 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: <EOI> [<ffffffff810387cb>] ? native_safe_halt+0xb/0x10 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff810149cd>] ? default_idle+0x4d/0xb0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81009e06>] ? cpu_idle+0xb6/0x110 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff814e433a>] ? rest_init+0x7a/0x80 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c21f7b>] ? start_kernel+0x424/0x430 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c2133a>] ? x86_64_start_reservations+0x125/0x129 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c21438>] ? x86_64_start_kernel+0xfa/0x109 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: ---[ end trace 2c7bb984812cf120 ]--- Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Reset adapter Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrtd: Directory 'oops-2013-06-14-01:10:53-1537-0' creation detected Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrt-dump-oops: Reported 1 kernel oopses to Abrt Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrtd: Can't open file '/var/spool/abrt/oops-2013-06-14-01:10:53-1537-0/uid': No such file or directory Jun 14 01:10:55 devvm kernel: Bridge firewalling registered After this we see for a while, every two minutes: Jun 14 01:14:22 devvm kernel: INFO: task events/0:19 blocked for more than 120 seconds.   • What is the best way to handle dynamic content?

    - by user1561753
    So we run a site where there are elements of the interface that could potentially be changed at any moment in the backend. Specifically we run a web service where certain functions are loaded dynamically. However, there are times where we remove certian functions and we want the experience to be as seamless for the user as possible. Now we've considered a few methods of solving this Ping the server every few seconds. If the functions are outdated/no longer available refresh the users page. While this would work the best, I feel like having that much IO can't be too good When the user clicks a function, if it's outdated/no longer available, alert them in the response and refresh the page. This would also work fairly well. I guess I'm more wondering how web apps like Google Docs work where you have content that has to be synced up across multiple users and that isn't more than a few seconds outdated Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask this. I figured this was more of a site architecture question and that this might be the place to ask it over SO.

  • haskell network io hgetline

    I want to read all the data on a handle, and then block waiting for more data. listen1 stops when there is a '\n' character in the stream. listen2 works and could be made completely general by imitating the code for hGetNonBlocking. What is the best way to do this? import qualified Data.ByteString as B loop = sequence_ . repeat listen1 :: Handle -> TChan B.ByteString -> IO() listen1 sock chan = do loop ( do s <- B.hGetLine sock atomically (writeTChan chan s) ) listen2 :: Handle -> TChan B.ByteString -> IO() listen2 sock chan = do loop ( do s <- B.hGet sock 1 s1 <- B.hGetNonBlocking sock 65000 atomically (writeTChan chan (B.append s s1)) )

Thank you in advanced for any help you may give :) much appreciated.

  • IO completion port key confusion

    - by Richard Tew
    I'm writing an IO completion port based server (source code here) using the Windows DLL API in Python using the ctypes module. But this is a pretty direct usage of the API and this question is directed at those who have a knowledge of IOCP, not Python. As I understand the documentation for CreateIoCompletionPort, you specify your "user defined" completion key when you call this function with a file handle (in my case a socket) you are associating with the created IOCP. When you get around to calling GetQueuedCompletionStatus, you get a completion key value along with a pointer to an overlapped object. The completion key should identify what overlapped object and request has completed. However, let's say I pass in 100 as the completion key in my CreateIoCompletionPort call with an overlapped object. When the same overlapped object has its IO completed and it arrives back through GetQueuedCompletionStatus, the completion key that accompanies it is much larger and bares no resemblance to the original value of 100. Am I misunderstanding how the completion key works, or must I be doing it wrong in the source code I linked above?

  • Haskell IO Passes to Another Function

    - by peterwkc
    This question here is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3066956/haskell-input-return-tuple I wonder how we can passes the input from monad IO to another function in order to do some computation. Actually what i want is something like -- First Example test = savefile investinput -- Second Example maxinvest :: a maxinvest = liftM maximuminvest maxinvestinput maxinvestinput :: IO() maxinvestinput = do str <- readFile "C:\\Invest.txt" let cont = words str let mytuple = converttuple cont let myint = getint mytuple putStrLn "" -- Convert to Tuple converttuple :: [String] -> [(String, Integer)] converttuple [] = [] converttuple (x:y:z) = (x, read y):converttuple z -- Get Integer getint :: [(String, Integer)] -> [Integer] getint [] = [] getint (x:xs) = snd (x) : getint xs -- Search Maximum Invest maximuminvest :: (Ord a) => [a] -> a maximuminvest [] = error "Empty Invest Amount List" maximuminvest [x] = x maximuminvest (x:xs) | x > maxTail = x | otherwise = maxTail where maxTail = maximuminvest xs In the second example, the maxinvestinput is read from file and convert the data to the type maximuminvest expected. Please help. Thanks.

  • How to consolidate multiple LOG files into one .LDF file in SQL2000

    - by John Galt
    Here is what sp_helpfile says about my current database (recovery model is Simple) in SQL2000: name fileid filename size maxsize growth usage MasterScratchPad_Data 1 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Data.MDF 6041600 KB Unlimited 5120000 KB data only MasterScratchPad_Log 2 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Log.LDF 2111304 KB Unlimited 10% log only MasterScratchPad_X1_Log 3 E:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_X1_Log.LDF 191944 KB Unlimited 10% log only I'm trying to prepare this for a detach then an attach to a sql2008 instance but I don't want to have the 2nd .LDF file (I'd like to have just one file for the log). I have backed up the database. I have issued: BACKUP LOG MasterScratchPad WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY. I have run multiple DBCC SHRINKFILE commands on both of the LOG files. How can I accomplish this goal of having just one .LDF? I cannot find anything on how to delete the one with fileid of 3 and/or how to consolidate multiple files into one log file.

  • Why isn't my IO executed in order?

    - by HaskellElephant
    Hi, I'm having some fun learning about the haskell IO. However in my recent exploration of it I have encountered some problems with IO not executing in order, even inside a do construct. In the following code I am just keeping track of what cards are left, where the card is a tuple of chars (one for suit and one for value) then the user is continously asked for wich cards have been played. I want the putStr to be executed between each input, and not at the very end like it is now. module Main where main = doLoop cards doLoop xs = do putStr $ show xs s <- getChar n <- getChar doLoop $ remove (s,n) xs suits = "SCDH" vals = "A23456789JQK" cards = [(s,n) | s <- suits, n <- vals] type Card = (Char,Char) remove :: Card -> [Card] -> [Card] remove card xs = filter (/= card) xs

  • sysklogd ignores my log facilities

    - by Synther Lawrence
    I'm using sysklogd 1.5.5. All I want is to get local0 entries in /var/log/vr file. My conf: *.*;local0.none /var/log/messages local0.* /var/log/vr When I do logger -p local0.info "local0 test from logger" the message appear in /var/log/vr file. That's ok. But the following sends message to /var/log/messages instead of /var/log/vr: #include <stdlib.h> #include <syslog.h> int main(int argc, char const* argv[]) { openlog(NULL, LOG_PID, LOG_LOCAL0); syslog(LOG_INFO, "local0 test from app\n"); closelog(); return 0; } Where am I wrong?

  • monitor and kill runaway processes using 100% IO?

    - by bleomycin
    Hello everyone, i have a few processes that have to be run at high priority (chrt 98) that will occasionally decide to hard-lock and peg 1 core at 100% (not a huge deal) but more importantly it will use all the IO on a system, so much that its impossible to log into the machine via ssh to kill it or perform any task on the machine that isn't loaded into ram. If i happen to have something like htop already running i am able to end the process fine. Is there any type of utility/way to monitor for this type of runaway process and kill anything that uses 100% of system IO for more than X amount of time? Thanks!

  • How to convert my backup.cmd into something I can run in Linux?

    - by blade19899
    Back in the day when i was using windows(and a noob at everything IT) i liked batch scripting so much that i wrote a lot of them and one i am pretty proud of that is my backup.cmd(see below). • Windows system restore deletes various executables and *.js files. How does it decide which files to delete?

    - by Leftium
    I restored my system from a Windows System Restore point. It solved some issues I was having, but introduced other strange problems (like my optical drive disappeared). One thing that surprised me was several files from my Web2Py installation were deleted: the executables and *.js files; possibly some others (like favicon.ico). I did not expect this because Web2Py is basically a portable, standalone application. You just unzip it and run the executable inside, so nothing should be registered with Windows. My question is: what files does Windows system restore delete, and how does it decide this? I'm just wondering what other files I'm missing and if there's a way to get restore them (without rolling back the restore point). Perhaps it scans for certain files types (like exe, js, ico, dll) with a creation date that was after the restore point creation date? Some other people who experienced a similar problem: Dropbox: Lost Files User files missing after run system restore. update: I found some more references on how Windows System Restore works: Understanding how System Restore in Windows Vista treats executable files Why Vista's System Restore is Dangerous and What to do About it
